'Color us shocked!': NY Post responds to Politico finally admitting Hunter Biden emails are real, rips liberal media for ignoring facts
Politico finally admitted Tuesday that reports about emails from Hunter Biden's laptop concerning communications between then-presidential candidate Joe Biden's son and foreign business interests were actually true. In doing so, they betrayed much of the rest of the liberal media who for months have tried to claim that the stories were nothing more than Russian disinformation.
The D.C. outlet's admission came as a shock to much of the media. But one outlet that was heavily involved in the story from the beginning — in fact, it broke the Hunter laptop stories before the 2020 presidential election — was not surprised at all.
On Wednesday, the New York Post sarcastically declared "Color us shocked!" and lambasted those in the media who fell for lies coming from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, social media, and anyone else trying to obfuscate the damning emails.
What did the Post say?
The left spent the weeks leading up to the election attempting to cover up, discredit, and lie about the Hunter Biden story in order to protect Joe Biden's electoral chances. Their moves were so obvious that even a left-wing actor like Russell Brand was able — and willing — to call out Big Tech, the mainstream media, and the Democratic Party for conspiring to kill the story and manipulate the election.
But this week, Politico's Playbook reported that one of its own reporters, Ben Schreckinger, independently confirmed in his new book that at least two of the controversial emails found on Hunter Biden's laptop were real: One a 2015 message from a top executive with the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma; the other a 2017 message about a "lucrative" deal with a Chinese energy company.
Naturally, the Post was not at all floored by Politico's revelations — and the paper took the naysayers to task in a staff editorial Wednesday.
"While we appreciate the support, the truth is The Post's reports always have been true, and it's only because the media wants to protect Joe Biden that they keep referring to the laptop as 'unsubstantiated,'" the Post began.
The newspaper pointed out that though Politico's reporter had confirmed with a "person who had independent access to Hunter Biden's emails" that the emails were real, reporters at the Post had already confirmed the authenticity of the messages with Hunter Biden's onetime business partner Tony Bobulinski back in October.
However, this news was inconvenient, so "the media just ignored him," the Post said.
Also ignored by the media — but "revealed" by Schreckinger — were reports that "emails released by the Swedish government also match emails from the laptop," the paper said.
Yet these revelations have not been enough for the liberal media to finally admit — or, apparently, even attempt to do the work to actually confirm or discredit — the Post's many reports on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.
All of this information is out there. Yet the Times still called the laptop "unsubstantiated" last week (until it quietly corrected the story). And even as Politico credited its reporter, it added, "While the leak contains genuine files, it remains possible that fake material has been slipped in."
What part? The pictures of Hunter smoking crack?
Schreckinger called the White House to check whether, as we reported, Joe Biden met Hunter for a dinner in April 2015 that included Burisma adviser Vadym Pozharskyi. Biden's team pointed him to a Washington Post "fact check" — which noted that Biden's team had at first said there was "no record of such a meeting," until they finally conceded that, yes, Joe did drop in on that dinner. The fact confirmed, the writer still concludes, haughtily, that there's "less to the story than one might imagine."
It's the perfect example of how Democrats weaponize "fact checkers" to deflect criticism and enlist social media to censor articles. Nothing to see here! (See: the Wuhan lab theory.)
What else?
The Post closed by wondering why the media would believe a word from Team Joe after being lied to so many times.
"Consider the level of skepticism brought to bear here," the Post said. "Biden's team lied to us but we'll take them at their word that nothing of consequence happened at this dinner. Email after email, picture after picture are proved authentic from the laptop, but hey, maybe some of it is fake."
It boils down to the media reporting only what they want to be true.
"The laptop is 'unsubstantiated' because the media doesn't want it substantiated," the paper concluded. "We figure that won't change, but thanks, Mr. Schreckinger, for at least bucking the trend."
Censorship backfire: NY Post has gained nearly 200K Twitter followers since the platform locked its account
Just over two weeks ago, Twitter locked the New York Post's account after the news outlet shared its explosive findings regarding Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings and the potential involvement of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden after they obtained a laptop formerly belonging to the potential future first son.
In the aftermath, Twitter explained its censor first, fact-check later action by arguing there was a "lack of authoritative reporting on the origins of the materials included" in the Post's articles and that the posts violated its "distribution of hacked materials" policy.
Many onlookers rightfully saw the action for what it was: Blatant censorship of a major U.S. news agency due to their publication of information damaging to the Democratic Party's candidate.
It has backfired
But now, two weeks later, Twitter's attempt to silence the New York Post appears to have backfired as interest in the story skyrocketed and the Post's Twitter account has grown exponentially.
According to the social media data tracker, Social Blade, the Post has gained more than 189,000 Twitter followers since Oct. 14, the day the account was locked. Blaze Media chief executive Tyler Cardon noted that the additions amount to a stunning 10.6% increase in followers over roughly two weeks without creating a single post.
On Oct.13, the day before the story broke and the Post's account was locked, the news outlet's primary account boasted 1,777,638 followers. As of Friday at the time of this story's publication, that number had risen to 1,968,406.
Anything else?
The Post was still unable to post on its account as of Friday as Twitter has said the account would remain locked until the news outlet agreed to remove the posts in question.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey appeared before Congress on Wednesday to answer questions from Senate lawmakers about his company's alleged censorship of conservative voices.
During the testimony, though he has since admitted that blocking the spread of the story on users accounts and in direct messages was wrong, Dorsey stood by his company's decision to lock the Post's account. He added that the situation could be rectified, however, if the news outlet would simply delete their original tweets.
"They have to log into their account, which they can do right this minute, delete the original tweet, which fell under our original enforcement action, and they can tweet the exact same material ... and it will go through," he said.
So far, the Post is refusing to kowtow to pressure, and with the massive growth they are seeing as a result of Twitter's actions against them, that hardly seems like a bad idea.
Watch: Joe Biden lashes out at CBS News reporter for asking about NY Post's story on Hunter
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was asked by CBS News campaign reporter Bo Erickson Friday night for his response to the New York Post's recent story revealing emails that purportedly show Hunter Biden set up a meeting between his father and a top executive at Ukrainian energy firm, Burisma, when the younger Biden sat on its board.
Biden dismissed the Post's story as a "smear campaign," before castigating Erickson for daring to ask the question in the first place.
What are the details?
Erickson posted a video of the exchange on Twitter, tweeting in his message, "I asked Joe Biden: What is your response to the NYPost story about your son, sir? He called it a 'smear campaign' and then went after me. 'I know you'd ask it. I have no response, it's another smear campaign, right up your alley, those are the questions you always ask.'"

Erickson is not alone in wondering what Biden's response is to the explosive story, which was amplified with a boost of intrigue after social media giants Facebook and Twitter censored the New York Post piece in an effort to stifle it.
Twitter later reversed its position and allowed users to share the article after the platform suspended several high profile accounts for doing so — including White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Politico reporter Jake Sherman, who later said he wished he "had given the story a closer read before tweeting it."
Biden was able to skate through his entire town hall on ABC Thursday night without a single question on the matter.
The Post, meanwhile, continues to release a trove of exchanges between Hunter Biden, his father, and others, which the newspaper says were extracted from a "computer [that] was dropped off at a repair shop in Biden's home state of Delaware in April 2019, according to the store's owner."
The Associated Press reported that the FBI is now investigating "whether the emails are part of a foreign influence operation" allegedly involving Trump ally Rudy Giuliani, who says he received the photos and messages after the repair shop owner reached out to his attorney.
