'Jeopardy!' champion, ex-con arrested, put on leave from teaching job at elite NYC school over 'inappropriate sexualized images'

Winston Nguyen is an ex-convict who swindled $300,000 from an elderly couple and a former "Jeopardy!" champion. However, the current teacher at an elite New York City private school has most recently made headlines for being arrested for the alleged "dissemination of intimate images via social media," according to officials.

Nguyen is currently a math teacher at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights. According to the school's website, preschool tuition starts at $52,900 and goes up to $60,525 for high school students.

The elite NYC school has celebrity alumni, including actress Lena Dunham, artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Maya Hawk – the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

Saint Ann hired Nguyen as a middle- and high-school math teacher in 2020 – just one year after he was released from the prison on Rikers Island.

While at Rikers Island, Nguyen reportedly called into a radio show to speak to then-Mayor Bill de Blasio to complain about the prison's conditions.

Nguyen had been convicted of stealing $300,000 from a 96-year-old blind man and his 92-year-old wife, according to the New York Post. Nguyen had been a home health aide to the elderly couple while stealing the money to allegedly pay for pricey ballet tickets and trips to Florida.

Regarding Nguyen's criminal history, a Saint Ann's spokesperson told the Daily Beast, "A nonviolent criminal record may not preclude employment. The school gives a careful and discerning assessment of a job candidate’s potential fit with the school."

In response to the current accusations against Nguyen, the spokesperson stated: "We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their efforts, and right now we’re focused on helping our students process this news."

The spokesperson confirmed that Nguyen is a "suspect in an ongoing investigation related to the dissemination of intimate images via social media."

The spokesperson added, "Upon his arrest on Thursday, he was immediately placed on leave by the school and he remains on leave."

Saint Ann’s Head of School Kenyatte Reid reportedly notified parents that the teacher was arrested, and it was linked to "inappropriate sexualized images."

"I was informed this evening by the assistant district attorney that his arrest is in relation to an investigation that dates back to January 2024," Reid wrote in an email to parents.

Nguyen has yet to be charged with any crimes and was released on Saturday. However, his defense attorney is awaiting information from prosecutors regarding potential charges.

Lawyer Frank Rothman told the New York Post, "We are awaiting a decision from the Brooklyn DA's office regarding charges against Mr. Nguyen. We are expecting some movement in the near future."

Rothman informed the Daily Beast, "I don’t think this is something that’s just going to be a non-issue. There’s going to be an issue. The question is, how big and when?"

Nguyen garnered some fame in 2014 when he became a "Jeopardy!" champion.

Video: Suspect accused of slashing 11-year-old girl needs NYPD officers to protect him from angry mob

A suspect accused of slashing an 11-year-old girl in the head and punching a woman was chased down by an angry mob in New York City. However, officers with the NYPD protected the suspect from the horde seeking vigilante justice.

An 11-year-old girl was slashed near the East 116th Street subway station in East Harlem around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, according to police. The young girl was knifed in the back of the head and had her ear cut as she stood on a downtown platform holding her mother’s hand, sources told the New York Post. The outlet reported that the weapon used in the attack was a box cutter.

The suspect – who reportedly has a lengthy rap sheet – allegedly fled the crime scene by running into the subway station and boarding a train.

The mother of the stabbing victim reportedly chased after the alleged attacker, but he was able to run away.

An unnamed MTA employee told WPIX, "I saw a guy; he was trying to get off the train car, and he was near the third rail. I asked him what happened, and he said people were chasing him and trying to kill him, but people were yelling he stabbed someone. I grabbed him because I saw the police were running toward us, but he managed to escape."

Moments before slashing the little girl, the suspect allegedly punched an unsuspecting 43-year-old woman around the street corner.

The victim's mother, Gorzata Sladek, told the New York Post, "It was traumatizing. Terrible. It’s terrible to see a little girl with her head cut, sliced in half and it’s just terrible."

A UPS worker added, "Her head [was] bloody. Bleeding can’t stop. [She was] bleeding in her hand and her shirt … she was crying. Scared."

The young girl was treated by medics near a juice bar before being rushed to a local hospital. She underwent surgery that required multiple stitches and staples to fix the gash.

An angry mob was able to track down the suspect and corner him in the street about a block away where he had allegedly punched a woman.

Several NYPD officers needed to protect the suspect from the crowd demanding street justice. In the video, the mob is shouting, and one man pokes the suspect with a cane.

Multiple men had to be pulled away from trying to attack the suspect.

A man in the crowd is heard yelling, "You f***ing piece of s**t!"

Cops arrested 30-year-old Shaquan Cummings. He was charged with two counts of assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

The Post noted that Cummings has more than 20 prior arrests, including assault, criminal mischief, and fare evasion. His last arrest for assault allegedly happened two months ago.

Sladek said, "You should be able to walk on the street and not worry that somebody will attack you and attack, actually, my daughter not even attacking a dog, but a little kid."

The distraught mother said her daughter is "not doing well emotionally."

"She doesn’t want to go back to school. She doesn’t want to go outside anymore,” Sladek stated.

Man suspected of bludgeoning woman to death with iron caught on camera fleeing bloody scene in victim's leggings: Police

New York City police are searching for a man believed to have bludgeoned a woman to death with iron inside a Manhattan hotel room. The suspect was caught on security camera footage fleeing the bloody crime scene while wearing leggings previously worn by the alleged victim, according to police.

The family of the slain mother contacted staff at the SoHo 54 Hotel to conduct a wellness check. On Feb. 7, a hotel employee knocked on the door with a "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging on it. The worker entered the room and saw the woman on the floor.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, "He saw the victim laying on the floor [covered by] a blanket. [He] didn’t think anything of it and went back downstairs thinking the woman was laying asleep on the floor.”

However, the brutally maimed body of 38-year-old Denisse Oleas-Arancibia was discovered in the hotel room by a housekeeper around 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 8.

There was an iron covered in blood found near the body. Kenny said there were "bits of plastic embedded in her head” from the iron. Oleas-Arancibia, from Queens, also suffered bruises all over her body.

An autopsy revealed that Oleas-Arancibia had died of strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Police also found a pair of men's pants covered in blood inside the hotel room.

Surveillance camera footage caught a possible suspect on video leaving the hotel in a black hooded sweatshirt, a tan jacket, and light-colored leggings.

Investigators believe the leggings that the man is seen wearing belong to Oleas-Arancibia.

"We have video of the woman arriving at the location wearing a distinct pair of leggings and later on we have a male leaving the hotel wearing the same leggings," Kenny said.

Police have been able to track the suspect's movements through the victim's MetroCard and transactions on her credit card.

WNBC reported, "Oleas-Arancibia periodically stayed at the hotel, though she lived in Queens. It's believed she may have been an escort. Her son told investigators she worked in Manhattan for an unknown man."

Oleas-Arancibia reportedly moved to the United States from Ecuador because she wanted a "better life."

Oleas-Arancibia's 18-year-old son, Edwin Cevallos, told the New York Daily News, "She gave us the life that we always wanted. She was always working for us to give us the best life in this country. She always had money to cover anything in the house. She didn’t owe no money to anybody.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect transitioning to a woman fatally stabbed mother 58 times, tossed small dog to its death off 11th floor: Police

An alleged transgender suspect stabbed his mother to death at her home in New York City and threw her dog to its death off the 11th floor, according to police.

Andre Eugene, 36, was reportedly charged with murder, aggravated cruelty to animals, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the stabbing death of 58-year-old Donna Hyman.

Eugene allegedly told police that his mother's small poodle named Gigi bit him, which caused an argument at the victim's Brooklyn apartment around 7 p.m. on Jan. 19.

Gigi was reportedly discovered near the entrance of the apartment building after being alerted by Hyman's sister. The dead poodle was found with nine stab wounds and was suspected of being thrown off the Hyman's 11th-floor balcony.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said officers found Hyman’s body in the apartment covered in blood and with 58 stab wounds, including 26 wounds to the head.

Police said Eugene was naked and covered in blood when officers arrived at the apartment.

Eugene allegedly told police that his mother had killed herself, despite having more than 50 supposed self-inflicted stab wounds.

"My mother is dead. She committed suicide," Eugene purportedly told the police.

However, Eugene also claimed that he stabbed the small dog after allegedly being attacked, and then the mother stabbed Eugene in retaliation.

Eugene allegedly had a dog bite on the thigh and several "shallow" stab wounds on the chest.

Eugene was taken to Brookdale Hospital.

Kenny said investigators suspect Eugene's stab wounds were self-inflicted.

“We call them hesitation wounds. We believe it to be self-inflicted," Kenny said, according to the New York Post.

A neighbor said the son and mother had previously gotten into arguments in the past over the dog's incessant barking.

WPIX reported, "The suspect was transitioning to a woman, according to police. He works as a paraprofessional at a Brooklyn school."

Eugene purportedly had no prior criminal record.

The investigation is ongoing.

'Hearing voices': Bronx teen charged with murder of his father, 5-year-old half-brother, boy's mother

A New York City teen was arrested for allegedly stabbing to death his father, 5-year-old half-brother, and the young boy's mother.

Jayden Rivera was arrested on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old suspect faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

On Saturday night, Rivera was reportedly babysitting his 5-year-old half-brother, Kayden Rivera. The teen's father — 38-year-old Jonathan Rivera — and the young boy's mother — 33-year-old Hanoi Peralta — returned to their first-floor apartment in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx. The couple reportedly went on a "paint and sip” date.

Detectives believe the victims were stabbed several times by Rivera, a college student who attended SUNY Oswego.

The New York Post reported, "The suspect left the apartment after the stabbings but returned to pound the bodies with a kitchen pot — striking them so violently that it dented the kitchen object, according to cops and police sources."

Neighbors said they had heard the screaming from the grisly attack.

Neighbor Fernando Cruz told WNYW, "There was a scuffle or something going on in the hallway. I know I heard that, and then I heard a woman screaming."

However, the bodies were not found until the next morning.

At around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to the apartment after receiving a 911 call. Cops discovered the dead father in the first-floor hallway. The 5-year-old boy and his mother were found stabbed to death inside the apartment.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the young boy had been so viciously stabbed that he was essentially disemboweled.

The teen reportedly fled the gruesome crime scene and went to his mother's apartment in the Bronx.

"Later on, when he returned home, he stated to his mother again that he was hearing voices and that he thought that Mr. Rivera and Ms. Peralta were going to hurt him," Kenny told reporters this week.

The mother called for an ambulance. Rivera was reportedly taken to the psych ward at the Westchester County Medical Center, where he allegedly confessed to hospital staff and cops that he had killed people.

According to police, detectives obtained a search warrant and found bloody clothing and a pair of sneakers that matched a bloody footprint inside the apartment.

Roland Bocauski — a superintendent at the building where Jayden lives with his mom — told the New York Post, “I can’t believe it. I don’t believe it, I swear to God, because I don’t see anything bad about these people."

"I manage eight buildings, and I can see in their faces when [people] are crazy and when they are not,” Bocauski added. "I never seen him crazy."

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Rivera's employer to help cover funeral costs.

"His hard work and positive spirit made a significant impact on the entire team," the fundraiser says of Rivera. "You could always find him laughing and supporting teachers as needed, giving high-fives to the students and welcoming parents, always going above and beyond."

"Many of us had the privilege of witnessing the beautiful bond he shared with his son, a Sunshine alumnus and the pride and joy he expressed while talking about his family," the fundraising campaign states.

Video: NYC deli clerk miraculously survives being shot in the eye at point-blank range during armed ambush

Video shows a New York City deli clerk narrowly cheating death. A Queens bodega worker miraculously survived an attack at point-blank range by a man armed with two guns.

Surveillance footage captured the moment that an armed man dressed in black with a face mask marched into the Rockaway Express Deli in South Ozone Park. Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the gunman walked right up to the counter and shot the deli worker from less than two feet away. The shooter rattled off three gunshots that caused the 47-year-old deli clerk to slump to the floor as he held his head in pain.

The gunman exited the deli, but then stormed back to the crime scene with a rifle. As the bloodied clerk was struggling to get off the floor, the gunman pointed the rifle over the counter and blasted several shots at the deli worker. The suspect then left the bodega.

The deli clerk and a customer were injured in the shooting. Both victims were rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Police said the deli worker was shot in the eye. The 27-year-old customer suffered a wrist injury — possibly from a ricocheting bullet or shell casing, according to the New York Post.

Police named Donnie Hudson as the shooting suspect and arrested the 35-year-old man on Wednesday night.

The New York Daily News reported, "Hudson, who lives above the deli, was arrested a few hours later and charged with attempted murder, assault, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said."

The outlet said that the shooting was a "result of a long-standing beef between the two men," according to police sources.

Investigators said Hudson visited the deli earlier on the day of the shooting, according to WABC-TV. Hudson reportedly told detectives that deli employees had been stealing from his home.

Hudson was reportedly held without bail after his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday.

Fox News weatherman attacked by group of teens on NYC subway after he defended elderly man; police let suspects go free

Fox News meteorologist Adam Klotz revealed that he was brutally attacked by a group of teens while riding on a subway in New York City. The cable TV weatherman was defending an elderly man, and then the teens suddenly turned their ire toward him.

Early Sunday morning, Klotz was returning home after watching the New York Giants playoff game. He said on an Instagram video, "This older gentleman was being hassled by this group of seven or eight teens."

Klotz, 37, told the teens to stop harassing the elderly man. The minors then began berating Klotz.

"And they decided, 'Alright, if he's not going to get it, you’re going to get it.’ And boy did they give it to me," Klotz said half-jokingly.

"They had me on the ground," he said in the Instagram video where he has visible bruises on his face. "My ribs are all bruised up, too. They got their hits in."

NYPD sources confirmed the subway attack to the New York Post, "Police sources said the meteorologist was on a No. 1 train around 1:15 a.m. when he confronted the teens, who may have been smoking weed at the time, too."

The teens fled the crime scene, but three of the teens were detained by police. There were two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old caught by the cops.

Despite the assault, the police reportedly let the three minors go scot-free.

A New York Police Department spokesperson said, "Juvenile reports were prepared, and their parents were called to pick them up."

Klotz suffered several lacerations on his face and was treated for his injuries at Bellevue Hospital. He said that he had X-rays taken.

The Fox News weatherman said in the video, "Where are the parents? Parents, watch your children."

Klotz, who is from Indiana, quipped, "New York City! New York City! What a place. The Big Apple!"

Ariana Grande's brother attacked and mugged in New York City, robbers take his iPhone and Louis Vuitton bag

The brother of singer Ariana Grande was mugged in New York City, and the robbers ran off with his Louis Vuitton bag and iPhone before they were caught by police.

Frankie Grande, 39, was walking along Eighth Avenue near Times Square at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when two assailants struck him in the head from behind. One was carrying an imitation gun, and the other was wielding a razor blade.

Grande said they robbed him of his Louis Vuitton bag, AirPods, his iPhone 14 Pro, some sunglasses, and his wallet, which contained a bank card. Police said he sustained a minor injury but refused medical attention.

WABC-TV reported that the two suspects were apprehended after trying to use the bank card at a smoke shop near the site of the robbery, according to police.

One suspect is 17 years old, and the other is 13 years old.

The two suspects were charged with robbery, grand larceny, unlawful use of a credit card, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property, menacing, and harassment.

The younger suspect was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

One merchant local to the area told the New York Post that the area had become "scary at times" with crime, including drug deals.

Grande issued a brief message to his fans on Instagram about the incident.

"Thank you for all of your prayers," he wrote. "I am so thankful to be safe and healing. Keep shining bright and stay safe out there."

In May, Ariana Grande joined other performers in an ad campaign with Planned Parenthood to advocate for abortion ahead of the midterm elections. Prior to that, in December, she was targeted by the woke mob for appearing Asian ,which many said was just her latest attempt to profit off of cultural appropriation.

Here's more about the Grande theft:

'I was very drunk': Video shows NYC man try to set restaurant on fire for getting chicken biryani order wrong, but ends up lighting himself ablaze

Viral video shows the moment a furious customer attempted to burn a restaurant to the ground for getting his order wrong. However, the New York City man ended up lighting himself on fire.

The official Twitter account for the FDNY posted video of a man attempting to light a Bangladeshi restaurant on fire on Oct. 2. The surveillance camera footage catches the man pouring a flammable liquid on the Ittadi Garden & Grill in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, New York.

Video shows him crouching down to ignite the fire when the revenge plot spectacularly backfires.

The man's body gets caught in the huge fireball. He is seen running away from his own fire that he ignited.

On Oct. 14, NYPD arrested Choephel Norbu for the alleged arson following an investigation that lasted nearly two weeks. The 49-year-old man was charged with one count of arson in the third degree and one count of criminal mischief in the second degree, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.

Norbu ordered a chicken biryani from the Bangladeshi restaurant, according to court documents. However, he reportedly got the wrong order and became extremely angry. He is said to have thrown away the chicken biryani in disgust.

Norbu is accused of marching back to the Ittadi Garden & Grill and torching the restaurant.

"I was very drunk. I bought chicken biryani. They didn’t give me chicken biryani. I was mad, and I threw it out,” Norbu told police, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post. “I bought a gas can, and I threw it at the store to try to burn it out. I lit it up, and boom, it got on me.”

The blaze caused over $1,500 in damages to the restaurant, including shattered glass at the front and damage to the air conditioning unit, according to the District Attorney's office.

Norbu – who does not have a criminal record – was released without bail after arraignment.

He is due back in court on Dec. 7, Meris Campbell, said a spokesperson for the Queens District Attorney's office.
