VIDEO: 10 wounded, including 72-year-old, in 'brazen' NYC shooting where gangbangers escape on mopeds in 'coordinated attack'

Disturbing video shows the eye-opening moment that two men casually strolled down a sidewalk in the New York City borough of Queens and then unleashed a hailstorm of bullets. The mass shooting ended with at least 10 people wounded and the shooters escaped on mopeds.

NYPD officials released surveillance video of two masked and hooded gunmen firing their weapons on a group of people that were standing in front of a barbershop and laundromat in the Queen's neighborhood of Corona. The shooting, which occurred just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, wounded eight men and two women between the ages of 19 and 72. All were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said that seven of the victims were innocent bystanders, and three others were known members of the Trinitario, a Dominican street gang — believed to be the intended targets, according to Fox News. Police said 40 shell casings were recovered from the scene near 99th Street and 37th Avenue, and that investigators were discovering new casings more than seven hours after the shooting occurred.

The gangbangers had getaway drivers that picked them up on mopeds to escape the crime scene.

"This was a brazen, coordinated attack, for lack of a better word," Essig said during a news conference. "This is unacceptable, and it has to stop."

"There's just one common theme, I want to get out there, that's a recurring theme that keeps happening, and it has to stop throughout the city," Essig continued. "That's gang members; that's guns, multiple guns on the scene, scooters being used, masks; and lastly, unintended targets getting hit. This is unacceptable on our streets in New York City, and it has to stop."

"Trust me when I tell you, if you allow gangs to get footholds in this city, we have a real problem," New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Eric Adams said. "This is a crisis."

There were no suspects in custody as of Sunday morning, according to police.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact @NYPDTips, or call them at 800-577-TIPS.

There were 18 people killed or wounded in seven separate shootings in New York City on Saturday, the New York Daily News reported.

Also this weekend, there was a mass shooting in New Orleans, which sent revelers on Bourbon Street fleeing for their lives. Shortly before 3 a.m., there was a shooting in the French Quarter that left five people injured.

3 shot in Times Square: Video shows 'hero NYPD cop' saving 4-year-old shooting victim; Bill de Blasio blames 'flood of illegal guns'

Three people, including a 4-year-old girl, were shot in New York City's Times Square in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon. Police shut down portions of Times Square following the shooting and reopened it by Saturday night. NYPD announced that they are seeking "one person of interest" in the shooting at New York's top tourist destination.

Just before 5 p.m., there were "two to four people" who began arguing while at 44th Street and 7th Avenue, according to WABC-TV. At least one man pulled out a gun and began shooting at the other men, but missed and struck three "innocent bystanders," NYPD police commissioner Dermot Shea said at a press conference.

"Pow pow pow pow, just like that," a witness told WABC. "It was real quick. And we heard it, it just sounded like a firecracker."

"I heard about four or five shots. Then a few minutes later, I saw them pick up the girl. She looked like she got shot in the leg. They put her in the ambulance," another witness said of the police racing to save the wounded 4-year-old girl.

Video of the moment of the shooting shows a frantic stampede in the tourist area of Times Square.

"Shots rang out, three of them, and everyone just kind of stopped and was in shock," another witness told WLNY-TV. "So many people swarmed around them so quickly… . They didn't look good, but you didn't really hear them scream, or anything like that. It just happened really, really quick."

Bill Bratton, who served two terms as the New York City police commissioner, posted a video of NYPD officers running to save the girl. He captioned the video with the caption: "Hero NYPD cop rushing through the danger in Times Square tonight as she carries a 4-year-old who was shot to waiting paramedics. A very vivid example of the absurdity of proposals to defund or abolish the police."

The three shooting victims were a 43-year-old woman from New Jersey who was shot in the foot, a 23-year-old female tourist from Rhode Island who was in Times Square after she was unable to get tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty, and a 4-year-old girl from Brooklyn who was shopping for toys with her parents when she was shot in the leg. All three wounded victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital, and are expected to survive their injuries, including the 4-year-old girl who underwent surgery.

The NYPD released a photo and video of a person of interest, but did not specify if the man was the shooter. Overnight, NYPD detectives and a K9 unit found clothing discarded in trash cans that match those worn by the person of interest. Shea said no guns have been recovered from the crime scene, but law enforcement discovered three .25 caliber shell casings.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the possible suspect.

Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio blamed the shooting on the "flood of illegal guns."

"Thankfully these innocent bystanders are in stable condition," the far-left mayor said. "The perpetrators of this senseless violence are being tracked down and the NYPD will bring them to justice. The flood of illegal guns into our city must stop."

Police commissioner Shea didn't blame the gun as de Blasio did, but rather pointed the finger at the city's elimination ofcash bail for almost all offenses except for violent felonies.

"I think we've we've spoken about this ad nauseum at this point day in and day out. Earlier this morning … we had an innocent 60-year-old pushed onto the subway tracks," Shea said during a press conference on Saturday night, according to BizPac Review. "The individual was almost immediately arrested by responding police officers. It is the third time this year already that that individual has been arrested for unprovoked assaults."

Shea asked, "When is this going to end? How many more people have to be injured, pushed in front of a train or in this case, a young four-year-old toy-shopping shot? How many more kids do we need to be shot before we realize that bad policies have consequences and we need action and we need policies regarding laws that have consequences?"

Last summer, de Blasio buckled to the "defund the police" movement and shifted $1 billion away from the NYPD budget.

In April, de Blasio spent $30 million in taxpayer money on an ad campaign to promote New York City tourism, despite many restrictive pandemic lockdown measures still in place and soaring violent crime rates.

Hate crime suspect arrested after Asian woman punched twice in face in front of daughter, 7. They were on way to rally against violence toward Asians.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime in connection to a physical attack against an Asian American woman while she was on her way to a rally against violence toward Asians, New York City police told WABC-TV.

What are the details?

The station spoke to the 37-year-old victim who didn't want to give her name. She was on her way to the rally in Union Square on Sunday morning with her 7-year-old daughter when she said the suspect approached her and asked for her sign, WABC reported.

She thought he also was heading to the rally, so she gave the sign to him — after which he began to tear it up and stuff it in a trash can, she told the station. When she confronted the man, he responded by punching her twice in the face, WABC said.

"He was destroying the sign and trying to put it in the trash can, so I walked forward and toward him saying, 'What are you doing?' And he just came in front of me and punched me in the face, and then I think I stopped for a little bit, and then I chased him," the mother told WABC. "And there were some people around as well, and I just wanted to get him and call the police."

The woman's face was cut and bruised in the attack, and she also sprained her ankle, the station said, adding that she was on crutches during her interview with WABC.

What happened next?

The station said several good Samaritans ran after the man into the Astor Place subway and were able to take photos of him.

"When you see something like that happening, it is your job to make sure they are seen and being heard," witness DeVonn Francis told WABC.

Witnesses also told the station that the suspect appeared emotionally disturbed before getting away on a train.

"He also flashed people on the train platform," Francis told WABC. "He dropped his underwear and showed his genitalia to everyone on the platform."

NYPD officials said Erick Deoliveira was arrested and charged with hate crime assault and criminal mischief as a hate crime, the station reported, adding that he's homeless.

While shaken up following the attack, the victim told WABC that "Asians need to stay strong, but we still love this country, we still love the city, and this is our home."

Anything else?

The NYPD noted that there have been 23 anti-Asian hate crimes this year compared to 29 during all of 2020, the station said.

WABC reported that over the weekend a 66-year-old man was punched in Chinatown and a 54-year-old woman was struck in the face with a metal pipe by a man who reportedly yelled, "I came here to [expletive] up Asians." Elias Guerrero, 38, was apprehended at the scene of the latter incident and is charged with assault as a hate crime, resisting arrest, harassment, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of controlled substance, the station said.

In addition, a witness said an attacker yelled "you motherf***ing Asian" at a 68-year-old man before punching him in the face Friday on a New York City subway train.

Also a man urinated on an Asian woman aboard a Queens-bound subway train over the weekend, police told the New York Post.
