Ohio mom leaves her young special-needs children home alone to go on Miami vacation — with friend getting liposuction

An Ohio mother was convicted of abandoning her three young children — two of whom have special needs — to go on a Florida vacation to be with her friend who was getting liposuction surgery.

On Feb. 22, a Westlake City Schools special education teacher notified police that one of her students — a 7-year-old girl — informed her that she had been left home alone with her twin sister and her 10-year-old sister. The special education teacher requested a welfare check from police, according to newly released audio.

'Do you remember why she was in Miami? Her friend needed liposuction surgery.'

On the same day, police conducted a welfare check on the apartment in Westlake – roughly 15 miles west of Cleveland.

Officers said the children were alone and the apartment was in complete "disarray."

Citing police, WKYC reported that the apartment was "in shambles" and "there was clothing, food, trash, and an unknown liquid covering the floor." The officer noted there was "furniture stacked up in a corner, storage boxes stacked in another corner, and the apartment itself smelled of old food and body odor."

“Garbage, bins, and bags were strewn all over the floor,” court records state, according to the Independent.

According to court documents, the children told police they did not have a cellphone to contact their mother but had been communicating with her through Nest cameras located around the unit and FaceTime on a MacBook tablet.

Investigators determined that the mother — Dominique Knowles — had abandoned her children to go on vacation in Miami.

The children's grandmother purportedly told police Knowles had not left the state, and Knowles allegedly told a detective she was not out of state.

Westlake Law Director Michael Maloney determined that Knowles had traveled to Miami a day before police conducted the welfare check.

Investigators used subpoenaed cellphone records to determine that Knowles made or received 50 calls in the greater Miami area from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23, according to court documents.

During a hearing Wednesday, a prosecutor informed the judge: “Do you remember why she was in Miami? Her friend needed liposuction surgery.”

When arrested, Knowles allegedly told police, “My kids are allowed to be here by themselves.”

The arresting officer allegedly responded, “Not when you have two special-needs kids.”

Knowles told the courtroom Wednesday, "I understand what I did was wrong, and this absolutely would never happen again. I did believe my kids were able to dress themselves and get themselves to school. I wouldn’t dare let anything happen to my kids. I wish I could go back and change the circumstances."

Despite her plea, Knowles was found guilty of two counts of child endangerment — a first-degree misdemeanor that can be punishable by six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 per count.

However, Knowles was sentenced to five years of probation and 360 days of house arrest, ordered to attend a parenting class and mental health counseling, and given $800 in fines. Knowles will be allowed to leave house arrest to go to work.

Judge Joseph Burke of the Rocky River Municipal Court declared, "Something bad could’ve happened to the children, they could have started a fire in the apartment, they could have hurt themselves or suffered a medical emergency, or they could have been taken by a stranger. But most of all, they needed their mother to be there and parent them and not ... by remote cameras from Florida."

Burke noted, "I don’t want to further victimize your daughters by separating you from them. It is now time for you to become the mother that your daughters deserve, need, and require."

Blaze News reported in February that an Ohio mother left her 16-month-old daughter alone in a filthy playpen at home for 10 days while she went on vacation in Puerto Rico.

Kristel Candelario, 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and child endangerment.

In March, Candelario was sentenced to life without parole in what the judge described as the "ultimate act of betrayal."

60-year-old woman fights back against man trying to kidnap her from store bathroom, Ohio police say

A 60-year-old woman was able to fight off a man who was trying to kidnap her from a bathroom at a store in Hilliard, Ohio.

The Hilliard Division of Police said officers were called to the At Home retail store on Park Mill Run Drive on Friday due to a report of an attempted kidnapping.

'This victim did everything right. She fought back hard, she loudly called for help.'

Police said the woman was attacked upon entering into the bathroom by a man who had been following her at the store. He allegedly tried to strangle her, put his hand over her mouth, and told her to be quiet.

Instead, she fought back.

The woman yelled for help, and her husband responded and held the suspect down until police could arrive and arrest the man. Police identified the man as 26-year-old Mohamed Camara of Columbus.

He was charged with felony kidnapping and booked into the Franklin County Jail. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

"This victim did everything right. She fought back hard, she loudly called for help, and she’s doing a great job assisting with our investigation," said police on a social media post about the case.

Police said additional charges are being considered. They also offered advice for the public.

"We want to remind residents to be aware of their surroundings, whether that’s in a store, a parking lot, a familiar place or an unfamiliar place. Be assertive, be vigilant, follow your gut instinct, and don’t be afraid to scream 'no,'" they wrote.

Hilliard is a suburb of Columbus with a population of about 37k residents.

Homeless male wearing blonde wig, makeup, and pearls accused of trying to kidnap 11-year-old boy outside his home

A homeless male wearing a blonde wig, makeup, and pearls is accused of attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old boy outside of his Ohio home.

According to the Alliance Police Department, 39-year-old Joshua Freyermuth was arrested Sunday for attempting to kidnap the boy that same day.

'He kicked his heels off — my son said he had white high heels on — and then he took off running down the street.'

Freyermuth allegedly approached the child while he was outside his home in Alliance — roughly 30 miles southeast of Akron.

Freyermuth — who also goes by the name Vicky, according to the Daily Mail — was accused of attempting to lure the boy away from his property.

The police report stated that Freyermuth told the child, “I need to talk to you.”

WOIO-TV reported that the child refused, and Freyermuth attempted to grab the boy on South Webb Avenue.

The alleged victim said he was able to get away because the family's dog attacked the suspect.

"When he grabbed my son's arm, my dog attacked him, and then he stumbled back off the stairs," the child's father, Zachery Thurmond, told WOIO. "He kicked his heels off — my son said he had white high heels on — and then he took off running down the street."

The father said he chased after the male.

Alliance police said they had enough evidence to make an arrest.

Police also noted that there has been quite a reaction on social media. An Alliance police spokesperson said Freyermuth's arrest is "probably just as well for his safety" because of the number of people "who have decided they want to take this into their own hands."

However, Freyermuth has denied the allegations.

Still wearing his blonde wig during his arraignment Monday in Alliance Municipal Court on attempted kidnapping charges, Freyermuth told the judge, “I wasn’t even there. I didn’t try to kidnap anybody.”

The suspect said he has an alibi and that he was at a friend's house when the alleged attempted child abduction was said to have occurred.

Freyermuth's bond was set at $100,000, and he has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Freyermuth also was arrested Friday on drug possession charges after police said they found methamphetamine in his car.

Police said they pulled Freyermuth over after they received reports of a suspect driving around trying to speak to children, according to the New York Post.

Freyermuth's mugshot for that arrest shows him wearing a different wig, and he was released on bond for that charge.

Police are still investigating the alleged incident.

Ohio woman allegedly lured men with sex, then fatally drugged, robbed them. Police searching for more 'serial killing' victims.

An Ohio woman is accused of carrying out the "serial killings" of at least four men in Columbus. The woman allegedly lured the men to hotels with the promise of sex. However, the woman instead would fatally drug the men before stealing their belongings, according to the attorney general.

Rebecca Auborn was charged on Sept. 11 with aggravated robbery, felonious assault, murder, corruption of another with drugs, trafficking in drugs, and the illegal manufacture of drugs.

On Wednesday, authorities announced new charges for Auborn. The 33-year-old from Columbus is now facing four counts of murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, five counts of aggravated robbery, five counts of felonious assault, five counts of corrupting another with drugs, one count of tampering with evidence, and four counts of trafficking in drugs — all felonies.

Investigators suspect Auborn to be involved with the overdose of four men and one who survived the encounter with the woman. The Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force received information that a woman was meeting men in northeast Columbus and then dosing the "johns" with drugs in order to steal their belongings.

Police believe Auborn lured a man to a hotel room with the promise of sex on Dec. 13, 2022. The man overdosed but survived.

Between January 2023 and June 2023, police said there were four men who suffered a fatal overdose of drugs while suspected of being with Auborn for sexual relations.

The Columbus Dispatch reported, "Court records from another case said Auborn admitted to detectives that she had mixed fentanyl in a man's crack pipe after meeting him for sex. In that case, Auborn told detectives she knew the man was overdosing, but took his vehicle and debit card, according to court records."

Investigators stressed that they believe there are more victims. Police are reinvestigating overdose deaths that happened near the other crime scenes from around the same timeline as the other deaths.

A statement from state Attorney General Dave Yost described the death as "serial killings."

"Don’t buy sex in Ohio – it ruins lives and could cost you yours," Yost said.

Auborn has been detained in the Franklin County jail. She is expected to appear in Franklin County Common Pleas Court for an arraignment on Friday.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the deadly overdose cases to contact the Columbus Division of Police homicide tip line at 614-645-2228.

Mother confesses to killing her newborn because of 'expenses,' enlisting daughter to help dispose of baby still crying inside trash bag: Prosecutor

An Ohio woman confessed to killing her newborn baby because it would be too expensive to take care of the infant, according to a prosecutor. The mother allegedly enlisted her 19-year-old daughter to help dispose of the baby's body.

Basma Abdul Karim Alkelezli and her daughter, Hanan Ahmad Al Jabouli, are accused of killing a newborn baby.

Alkelezli reportedly gave birth on Sept. 20. Paramedics responded to a call for medical help at the woman's home on the same day. During the 911 call, Al Jabouli reportedly said her mother was "not waking up."

Paramedics allegedly discovered that Alkelezli had recently given birth, but there was no baby in the home. Alkelezli was reportedly bleeding excessively after cutting the umbilical cord.

Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor Cory Helffrich said officers with the Hillard Police Department went to the residence to search for the newborn baby.

The Columbus Dispatch reported, "Officers discovered the baby in the trunk of a vehicle and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Helffrich said. The coroner's office ultimately determined the baby had been born healthy before it was killed, according to Helffrich."

According to WCMH-TV, "Investigators wrote in Franklin County Municipal Court documents that Alkelezli had placed her newborn son in a plastic trash bag, and then instructed her daughter, Al Jabouli, to dispose of him. Al Jabouli then placed the bag inside of a five-gallon bucket, and put it in the trunk of a car in their home’s backyard."

A detective and sergeant attempted life-saving procedures on the baby. The newborn was rushed to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Hilliard Division of Police Chief Mike Woods told reporters that officers were disturbed by the chilling crime scene.

"All of the officers that are here, most of them are parents, a couple of them here have newborn children," Woods said. "It’s very tough on them. I’m proud of them for pushing through it."

The mother and daughter were arrested on Sept. 22 for suspicion of infanticide.

Alkelezli is charged with aggravated murder, murder, involuntary manslaughter, strangulation, two counts of endangering children, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

Al Jabouli is charged with aggravated murder, murder, strangulation, endangering children, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and obstructing justice.

The pair appeared in court on Friday, where they pleaded not guilty.

However, the mother and daughter allegedly confessed to murdering the newborn.

Alkelezli admitted to investigators that she was pregnant, according to Helffrich.

"She stated that they were moving homes and the baby would have been more expenses," Helffrich added.

According to the prosecutor, the mother said she did not look at the newborn and stuffed the baby into a trash bag within seconds of giving birth.

Al Jabouli allegedly confessed to helping her mother put the baby into an orange five-gallon bucket and then into the trunk of a vehicle.

"(Al Jabouli) admitted she could still hear the baby crying from inside the trash bag," Helffrich said.

The mother and daughter are being held at Franklin County jail. Alkelezli's bond was set at $2 million, and her daughter's bond was set at $1 million.
