Pro-Palestinian hooligans vandalize Union Station at anti-Israel protest, Republicans restore American flags: 'It's outrageous'

Pro-Palestinian hooligans vandalized statues, monuments, and a fountain outside of Union Station in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday during anti-Israel protests. The demonstrators also took down American flags, burned them, and replaced them with Palestinian ones. However, Republicans restored the American flags.

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an address before Congress.

Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters converged on Union Station to demonstrate against Netanyahu and Israel's military response to the Hamas terror attacks on October 7, 2023.

As Blaze News previously reported, the protests escalated and anti-Israel demonstrators became unruly. The protesters accosted and even got into physical confrontations with police. U.S. Capitol Police officers deployed pepper spray after some protesters became "violent" and "failed to obey" orders by law enforcement.

Nine people were reportedly arrested across D.C., including four people on charges of assaulting a police officer outside Union Station.

Vandals defaced the Columbus Memorial Fountain, the Freedom Bell, and other monuments. The activists graffitied messages on the monuments with threats such as "Hamas is coming."

American flags flying outside of Union Station were removed by anti-Israel activists, and activists hoisted Palestinian ones in their place. The activists then burned the American flags.

'You tear down our flag, and I will put it back up every single time!'

A group of House Republicans — led by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Rep. Brandon Williams of New York — descended on Union Station late Wednesday night to restore the American flags that were taken down.

"We recognize that they flew Palestinian flags on these polls. It is outrageous. They were pulled down, thankfully," Johnson said.

He continued, "American flags are once again flying over Union Station. We will not let the terrorist mob win."

Congressman Williams added, "Anti-American agitators will not have the last say. We will continue to stand for this great country, no matter what. You tear down our flag, and I will put it back up every single time! God Bless America."

Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden from Wisconsin said, "We came down here to Union Station and re-flew these flags because Americans will not bend. We will not bow. We will not be afraid, and we will not be cowered by these terrorist sympathizers. We will stand strong with the American flag, the American people, and our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel."

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) wrote on the X social media platform, "We raised the flags back up. Earlier today, terrorist sympathizers tore down the American flags at Union Station, burned them, and raised the Palestinian flag in its place. After votes tonight, a group of members, including many veterans and the speaker of the house, took our flag back and raised it. Took a while to get it done because the Hamas supporters broke the connections, but D.C. police helped us out and got us zip ties."

After raising the three American flags, the Republicans and law enforcement officers said the Pledge of Allegiance.

GOP Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas announced on Wednesday that a bill had been introduced by Republican lawmakers to "deport any foreigner involved in violence and vandalism on federal property."

"The actions of the pro-Hamas lunatics at Union Station in DC are shameful, and anyone on a visa who took part should have it revoked immediately," Cotton declared.

On Thursday morning, National Park Service crews worked to repair and clean the graffiti off the monuments in Union Station.

Video: Palestinian supporters try to breach White House fencing, rioters attack officers, staffers relocated, no arrests

Thousands of Palestinian supporters descended on Washington, D.C. on Saturday in a demonstration to demand a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. However, the protest escalated into a violent confrontation with law enforcement that damaged the fence protecting the White House.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators participated in the March on Washington for Gaza – which called for "an immediate ceasefire, an end to U.S. military funding to Israel, and lifting the siege on Gaza."

Protesters waved Palestinian flags, and lashed out at President Joe Biden. The protesters held signs that read: "Genocide Joe has got to go" and "Biden has blood on his hands." The crowd also chanted: "F*** Joe Biden!" The demonstrators threw dozens of bloodied baby dolls over the fence protecting the White House.

However, the protest became violent as Palestine supporters hurled objects at law enforcement guarding the White House. The mob also damaged the security fence in front of the White House, reportedly forcing Secret Service members suited up in riot gear to try to quell the tense situation.

Video journalist Julio Rosas wrote on the X social media platform, "DC police and Secret Service had to rush to one part of the security fence to prevent a breach from the Palestinian crowd."

Field reporter Wid Lyman noted, "Protesters have breached the reinforced gate and riot police have confronted them - other protesters began scaling the fence."

Some of the protesters near the barrier were heard shouting: "Break it down!"

White House staff and journalists were "relocated" during the escalation.

The U.S. Secret Service told Fox News, "During the demonstration near the White House complex Jan. 13, a portion of the anti-scale fencing that was erected for the event sustained temporary damage. The issues were promptly repaired on site by U.S. Secret Service support teams."

"As a precaution, some members of the media and staff in proximity to Pennsylvania Avenue were temporarily relocated while the issue was being addressed," the statement read. "The Secret Service made no arrests associated with the march and there was no property damage to the White House or adjacent buildings."

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said in a statement, "The right to peacefully protest is one of the cornerstones of our democracy, and the Metropolitan Police Department has long supported those who visit our city to demonstrate safely. However, violence, destructive behavior, and criminal activities are not tolerated."

"While a majority of today’s demonstration remained peaceful, there were instances of illegal and destructive behavior in Lafayette Park, including items being thrown at our officers," Smith added. "We are supporting our partners at the United States Park Police as they investigate and hold those found responsible accountable for their actions."

Authorities anticipated possible unrest in the capital and erected extra fencing around the White House before Saturday.

President Biden was not at the White House at the time of the violence since he had already departed to Camp David on Saturday morning.

'It's not a yes-or-no question': American Professor REFUSES to condemn terrorism

A professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst was asked at a student rally whether or not she condemns terrorism. Not whether she supports Israel, Palestine, or a ceasefire — just whether or not she denounces the act of terrorism.

“Will you condemn terrorism?” a student asked, while another followed with, “Do you think the Hamas attack was terrorism to begin with?”

Simple questions.

Her response, however, was anything but simple.

“Reality all begins on when you start the clock, right? And so if you start the clock on Saturday, reality is going to look one way. If you start the clock, you know, in, like, the weeks prior, it's going to sound a different way,” she said.

Uh huh ... sure.

“You’re a professor; will you condemn terrorism?” one of the students asked again.

“It’s not a yes-or-no question,” she retorted.

“Somebody that walks into an innocent family's house and guns them down, rapes the children, kidnaps people — I don't care when you start the clock — that's terrorism, period,” fires Glenn Beck.

Even Hillary Clinton seems to understand that. At a recent panel discussion, she stated, “People who are calling for a ceasefire now don't understand Hamas.”
