Harris rails about Trump 'locking people up' for disagreement as DOJ sends Christian pro-lifer to prison for peaceful protest

A Christian grandfather walked into federal prison this week to serve a sentence related to a peaceful pro-life protest while Vice President Kamala Harris (D) caterwauled about her opponent, former President Donald Trump, allegedly threatening to imprison those who "disagree with him."

Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Calvin Zastrow, 63, arrived at Federal Correctional Institute Thomson in Illinois to begin serving a six-month sentence for participating in a peaceful protest outside a Tennessee abortion clinic on March 5, 2021.

A report from the Daily Wire claimed that Zastrow and others gathered outside the clinic that day, "sat in front of the entrance," "sang hymns," and "urged women not to have abortions." A Department of Justice press release described the incident as a "clinic blockade" that prevented "employees from providing, and patients from receiving, reproductive health services."

Nothing in the DOJ press release indicates that Zastrow or his five co-defendants engaged in violence. The press release does note that co-defendants Chester Gallagher and Paul Vaughn "stalled the Mount Juliet Police Department through negotiations that Gallagher referred to as a delay tactic," a detail that seems to reiterate that the protesters were committed to peaceful, civil disobedience, not violence.

The same cannot be said for some of Zastrow's fellow inmates at Federal Correctional Institute Thomson. According to the Daily Wire, the prison had five suspected homicides and two suspected suicides between 2019 and 2023.

Sex-related crime is also apparently rampant at the facility. Prison staff there filed 275 reports of sexual misconduct in 2022 alone, the Daily Wire claimed.

Despite the violent environment in which he will spend the next six months, Zastrow — who was convicted in January of felony conspiracy against rights and of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act — is embracing the opportunity to continue evangelizing.

"I’m praying to be able to witness for Christ. If I’m miserable there and can’t sleep well, then I’ll just suffer with honor for Jesus," he told the Daily Wire. "But if I’m able to get sleep and be healthy, I’m just going to see who the Lord wants me to minister to and be ministered to by."

"I’m here to declare the glories of Christ and his kingdom," Zastrow continued. "I’m just here to do that. I’m just going let all the demons in hell know that they’re on notice."

The Thomas More Society, which is representing Zastrow in a separate case, is disgusted by the Biden-Harris DOJ's ruthless prosecution of peaceful pro-lifers like Zastrow.

"Calvin Zastrow ... is a peaceful man with a deep love for others and for his country. He has dedicated his life to peacefully interposing on behalf of innocent children in the womb who face imminent violence – indeed, death," said TMS senior counsel Steve Crampton in a statement to Blaze News.

"The injustice of sentencing such a man of peace to perhaps the most violent federal penitentiary in the nation is hard to fathom. But it underscores the blind allegiance of the Biden-Harris administration to the abortion industry and their unbridled zeal to crush the pro-life movement."

'In a democracy, the president of the United States, in the United States of America, should be willing to be able to handle criticism,' she then seethed, 'without saying he'd lock people up for doing it.'

The Biden-Harris DOJ does seem determined to prosecute peaceful pro-lifers. This week, Bevelyn Williams, a 33-year-old Christian wife and mother, began serving a 41-month sentence for misdemeanor criminal trespass in connection with a pro-life protest.

In September 2023, the Biden-Harris DOJ secured convictions against elderly pro-lifers who committed similar supposed crimes. Among the defendants in this case were Joan Andrews Bell, then 74, and Jean Marshall, then 72.

Paulette Harlow, then 73 and suffering from a debilitating medical condition, was initially determined to be unfit for trial. However, two months later, she was convicted and sentenced to 24 months in prison.

Even as the DOJ under the Biden-Harris administration has focused on prosecuting peaceful Christians who oppose abortion and on prosecuting Trump for ridiculous alleged offenses, Vice President Harris waxed indignant in her infamous interview with Bret Baier of Fox News that Trump allegedly wants to sic lawfare on people who have a different opinion than he does.

Trump "talked about locking people up because they disagree with him," a visibly flustered Harris fumed to Baier.

"This is a democracy," she then lectured, pointing her finger and bobbing her head furiously.

"And in a democracy, the president of the United States, in the United States of America, should be willing to be able to handle criticism without saying he'd lock people up for doing it."

Of note, the U.S. has always been and continues to be a constitutional republic. Harris' interview with Baier aired on Wednesday, about 24 hours after Zastrow reported to prison.

‘Evil minds just find different excuses’: 89-year-old ARRESTED by Biden’s DOJ for peaceful pro-life protest

89-year-old Eva Edl — a survivor of Nazi invasion and a concentration camp — was recently arrested by Biden’s Department of Justice for praying and peacefully protesting outside an abortion clinic.

Edl now faces 10 years in prison for violating the FACE Act.

“What are your thoughts about what has happened to you in the past and what is happening now?” Glenn Beck asks Edl.

“Well, there really is no difference. You know, I’ve heard it said our natural mind can justify anything our evil hearts want to do,” Edl tells Glenn. “During World War II as we all know, the Nazis justified the extermination of Jews and gypsies and Slavs and other people simply by using the phrases that they’re not quite human yet, according to evolutionary theory.”

“Then, at the end of the war, when the communists came in, they decided to just say because you are of an ethnic background of a certain people group, your blood is already evil. So even if you’re a newborn baby, you are evil in itself and you have to be exterminated,” she continues.

While that was their excuse, Edl believes “the main reason for all of it was greed.”

“Right now, why are we exterminating babies? Because we’re selfish. Nothing has changed,” she says. “Evil minds just find different excuses.”

As for the sentence she faces for protesting outside an abortion clinic, Edl tells Glenn that she’s “not afraid.”

“I’m prepared to die in there,” she says. “I believe in the Lord Jesus. I have eternal life in him now, and so why would I be afraid? The main reason I’m doing what I’m doing is simply in obedience to him.”

“When I stand in front of those clinic doors, I’m just buying time for our sidewalk counselors to reach women in a calm and quiet way and touch their hearts,” she explains. “There are many that are just grateful afterwards that we were there and kept them from murdering their own babies.”

Canadian cop visits woman's home, admits police are monitoring her Facebook group, hands her info on 'peaceful protests': 'Nice to know that we're being watched'

A police officer from the Ontario Provincial Police in Canada was recorded on video standing outside the door o fa woman's home, admitting that police have been monitoring a Facebook group she has participated in regarding growing protests across the province over COVID-19 restrictions — and then handed her a brochure on "peaceful protests."

Say what?

The cellphone video begins with the resident opening her door and asking the officer for her name and badge number, after which the officer hands the resident her card along with "some information about peaceful protests."

The resident asks, "So you saw something on my Facebook?"

"No, on the Facebook group," the officer replies.

"And [you] decided to come to my personal residence to give me information about peaceful protests?" the resident asks.

"Yes," the officer replies.

At first the resident wonders if the officer is with police in Peterborough, a city about 90 minutes northeast of Toronto. But the officer acknowledges she's with the Ontario Provincial Police, and her shoulder patch indicates it as well.

"Are you guys now monitoring people's Facebook pages or Facebook groups [as] to who comments, as to what their status updates are, or what they're doing ... within the group?" the resident continues.

The officer at this point only admits police are "monitoring the protests" happening across Ontario and then adds, "So, there's a protest coming up. I'm simply providing you with information about a peaceful protest, and now I'm leaving. That is all."

'Nice to know that we're being watched'

But the resident apparently wanted to nail down exactly what was going on, so she inquired more: "So the OPP are watching what people are doing on Facebook in different groups, whether or not they're commenting, participating, liking, and you guys are now doing service calls to give people information about peaceful protests?"

"Yeah," the officer replies. "It's just a proactive measure to make sure you understand your rights about peaceful protesting."

The clip concludes with the resident telling the officer, "I'm hoping that you guys aren't gonna waste our tax dollars continuing to do this to everybody, but now it's nice to know that we're being watched."

TheBlaze on Friday morning contacted the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police to inquire about the video, but an official said the office was being "inundated" with calls about the clip and that OPP's corporate communications arm was now handling the matter. OPP has not issued a statement as of noon Friday; TheBlaze will update this story once a statement is issued.

What has been the reaction?

Reaction to the clip has been somewhat mixed. Some commenters said the officer did nothing wrong; others are saying the visit was more or less the delivery of a chilling message from Big Brother.

One commenter noted, "Not really sure why this is an issue. Facebook public communities are just like any other communities. I'm glad OPP is paying attention. That is what I'm paying them for."

To which another user answered, "You pay them to stalk people online? Shouldn't they be solving crime or something?"

Another commenter in favor of the visit wrote, "Good. I see nothing wrong here. The cop was nice, was only there to give information not to arrest or harm anyone. If you post on a public group that supports an illegal occupation I'm glad the cops are checking on you."

But another user replied, "She's a fascist, as are you, since you see no problem with this. There was no reason to show up at her house, since this lady is entitled to speak out and disagree with the government. And there's nothing illegal about it. No wonder Canada has gone to hell, with people like you."

Anything else?

The Canadian truckers protest against COVID-19 restrictions has been dominating headlines across the globe of late, and sides are being chosen as the truckers disrupt the normal flow of commerce to get their points across.

Indeed, some Canadian provinces recently have ordered the easing or lifting of pandemic restrictions in the wake of the protests as well as decreases in coronavirus cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Glenn Beck's advice to 'Stop the Steal' rallygoers: DON'T engage with Antifa

On the radio show Tuesday, Glenn Beck shared a piece of important advice for any conservatives gathering in Washington, D.C., this week to attend the "Stop the Steal" rally or other protests in support of President Donald Trump.

Glenn warned protesters not to engage with Antifa or anyone else shouting at or harassing you. They are trying to get you to engage, which will then discredit everything you came to support.

They're not there reason with you. They're there to provoke you and they're well trained to do so. Don't let them. Don't engage with them. Channel your inner Martin Luther King Jr. and just keep marching — or you'll be the only thing the media will show and delegitimatize the entire movement.

WATCH: Michelle Obama defends riots while falsely claiming Trump is 'racist'

Former first lady Michelle Obama spoke out against President Donald Trump, claiming that riots are perfectly fine, and that Trump is racist. Here are some fact checks on those claims.

The Associated Press tries to change the definition of 'riot' to protect their rioting friends

The Associated Press has made a change to their Stylebook, dictating that the word "riot" should not be used to describe actual riots.

Commentary: Hypocrites at NY Times run op-ed by Chinese propagandist pushing authoritarian put down of Hong Kong protests. Where's Tom Cotton's apology?

Remember when the New York Times caved to pressure to pull down an op-ed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) advocating for the U.S. military to intervene and stop the rioting and looting in major U.S. cities? If you would recall, a Times editor actually resigned amid outrage from the paper's staff that he would dare publish Cotton's opinion, an opinion they said would put people in danger.

Will the Times retract this op-ed by a Chinese communist propagandist celebrating the authoritarian crackdown on protesters in Hong Kong?

The op-ed, titled "Hong Kong is China, like it or not," was written by Regina Ip, a legislator and member of the Executive Council in Hong Kong. Ip is an advocate for Hong Kong's new expansive national security law, a law supported by the Chinese Communist Party leadership in Beijing that critics say will severely encroach on civil liberties and abuse Hong Kong citizens.

"Hong Kong has been rocked by a series of crises after the eruption of protests last year over a proposed bill (long since withdrawn) that would have allowed the extradition of some suspects in criminal cases to mainland China," Ip writes. "Something had to be done, and the Chinese authorities did it."

Last year, pro-democracy advocates in Hong Kong began demonstrations against the planned security law, protesting the pro-Chinese elements of the government in Hong Kong. In response, Beijing announced in May that the communist government would ignore the Hong Kong legislature and impose the security law by fiat, declaring that the protests were evidence the law was needed.

Then the crackdown on protests and free speech began.

As the New York Times itself reported, "the Chinese government has used the letter and spirit of the law to crush Hong Kong's pro-democracy opposition with surprising ferocity." A tenured law professor and pro-democracy advocate at the University of Hong Kong was forced out of his position by authorities. Four young activists were arrested on suspicion of expressing support online for Hong Kong's independence, an act of subversion under the new law. Beijing even canceled an election in Hong Kong, using the coronavirus as a cover, to prevent pro-democracy candidates from winning, according to the Times.

At the time, Ip welcomed the arrests, saying the authorities were "acting in accordance with the law."

Now, Ip's op-ed accuses pro-democracy advocates of having "done great harm to the city by going against its constitutional order and stirring up chaos and disaffection toward our motherland." She defends the decision to postpone the election in Hong Kong as "sound."

Even today, Hong Kong riot police enforcing the security law arrested more than 50 peaceful protesters who had gathered on China National Day. The Chinese Communist Party's tyranny stares the world in the face, and the New York Times runs an op-ed on the same day with the sub-headline, "after months of chaos in the city, something had to be done, and the Chinese government did it."

The New York Times has published Chinese propaganda before. The paper also publishes opinion editorials from convicted terrorists, Middle Eastern dictators, Russian dictators, and Hamas.

But Sen. Cotton wrote an op-ed calling for President Trump to invoke the insurrection act to stop criminals in American cities because local and state officials refuse to enforce the law, and somehow that opinion was too extreme.

Yascha Mounk, a contributing editor for The Atlantic, called out the Times for its blatant hypocrisy.

Mounk is entirely correct, and he doesn't even agree with Cotton's op-ed.

The New York Times is a joke.

BLM mob attacks drivers in LA while media reports 'peaceful protests'

One activist climbed on top of a truck as it tried to drive around the crowd. When the truck stopped, she fell off the truck. Media said this driver "mowed a protestor down."

In Wisconsin Campaign Stop, Mike Pence Says 2020 Is About Whether ‘America Remains America’

Only 50 days out from Election Day, Pence stopped in flyover country, noting 'Joe Biden has never called out his campaign staff or his running mate for raising money for bail for violent criminals.'

Reporter asks press secretary why it's OK for the president to have thousands of people at his outdoor rallies. She explains: These are 'peaceful protests.'

In the wake of President Donald Trump holding another outdoor campaign rally where many attendees did not wear face masks, the media wanted to know why the White House believes such rallies are OK when states have said they are not allowed.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany used the left's own "peaceful protests" canard to clearly explain that the president was not doing anything his political opponents were not already doing.

What did she say?

President Trump has been holding — and has scheduled several more — outdoor campaign events with thousands of attendees. On multiple occasions, large portions of the audience have been seen not social distancing and often not wearing masks. This, of course, has been a source of ire and criticism from members of the media who are positioning themselves as people who are very concerned that the campaign is allowing such seemingly reckless behavior.

For example, after Trump's Aug. 27 RNC speech at the White House, CNN repeatedly characterized the convention session as a "possible super-spreader event."

And following President Trump's campaign rally in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Tuesday, the media were aghast that the president would hold an event with so many people who might be putting their health at risk in a state where public gatherings are supposed to be capped at 50 people.

During the White House press briefing Wednesday afternoon, a reporter demanded to know why the president insisted on holding outdoor rallies with thousands of attendees when governors have declared a ban on such gatherings.

"Why did the president have thousands of people, many not wearing masks, at a rally last night in a state that has limited outdoor gatherings to 50 people? Why is he going to Nevada this weekend to hold similar outdoor rallies?" the reporter asked, noting that the events are "in violation of his administration's own guidance and of the best advice and guidance of local officials who he has said should have final say in these matters"

McEnany was ready for the question and made it clear the president believes that if the rally sauce is good for the liberal "peaceful protest" goose then it is good for the GOP campaign gander.

"People have a First Amendment right, if they so choose, to show up and express their political opinion in the form of a peaceful protest, which is what the president held," she explained.

Then she called out the media's double standard when it comes to their treatment of BLM protests versus Trump rallies.

"There's a real double standard here, CNN had on a guest, apparently a doctor, Rob Davidson, who said, 'Now, true, there are social distancing issues' with regard to the protests we've seen around the country, 'however, this is a public health crisis — they are marching against systemic racism,'" McEnany revealed, citing an interview Davison gave Anderson Cooper on Aug. 28.

"So if you're allowed to march in aggregate in those protests, you are also allowed to show up at a political rally," she concluded. "You have a First Amendment right in this country."
