Man who raped 61-year-old woman had been previously arrested for being a 'peeping Tom,' Florida police say

Tampa police said a man arrested for raping a 61-year-old woman had been previously arrested for being a "peeping Tom" in the same community.

An arrest affidavit said that 28-year-old Jordan Davis broke into the woman's home on Nebraska Avenue and Ellicott Street on May 10 at about 11 p.m.

'He's despicable.'

Police said Davis found the woman in bed and placed a pillow over her face to sexually assault her.

Davis didn't get very far after the assault, according to police who said the victim called 911 and gave such a good description of the suspect they found him very quickly.

Tampa Police spokesman Jonee Lewis praised the woman for helping police catch the alleged assailant.

"She displayed extreme courage in, after this traumatic ordeal, being able to call us, give us such a good description that we could immediately find this person and get them off of the streets," Lewis said.

Davis was arrested and charged with sexual battery as well as burglary.

Previously 'peeping Tom'

Police said that the man had been previously arrested in Feb. 2023 after a woman caught him staring at her through her window for about 20 minutes.

The victim in that incident pretty much predicted what would happen if the man had not been put away.

"He needs help and he needs to be in a facility where he is not going to do this to somebody else," said Rachel Cronin.

She says that the video appears to show him trying to gain entrance by turning the doorknob, which was locked.

"If it was unlocked, what would he have done next after watching a woman by herself in her home?"

She provided security footage to WTVT-TV showing Davis on her porch looking at her through her window. Later in the video, she can be heard yelling and cursing at him to get away from her home and never return.

Davis had been released from jail over a burglary charge just six days before the peeping Tom incident in 2013.

Neighbors were horrified to hear about the alleged rape.

"I think he's despicable. No doubt," said Manuel Fernandez. "My deepest heartfelt sympathies and I am so sorry that this happened to her, it's a serious tragedy."

"We don't want anything like this to happen to another person in our community," said Lewis.

Indictment reveals disturbing new accusations against illegal immigrant charged with killing Laken Riley: 'A peeping tom'

A Georgia grand jury has officially indicted the man police say killed college student Laken Riley in February.

An indictment filed on Tuesday in Clarke County charged 26-year-old illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra with 10 crimes: three counts of felony murder, one count of malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, aggravated battery, obstruction or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call, and tampering with evidence.

They described the horrific murder as a "crime of opportunity."

The indictment included another charge for a totally separate, yet disturbing, allegation: Ibarra was charged with one count of being a "peeping tom."

According to the indictment, Ibarra went to an apartment complex at the University of Georgia on the same day he allegedly killed Riley "for the purpose of becoming a peeping tom in that he did peep through the window and spied upon and invaded the privacy" of the occupant. That victim is a university employee, WAGA-TV reported.

The indictment includes other shocking allegations.

Prosecutors allege that Ibarra killed Riley "by inflicting blunt-force trauma to her head and by asphyxiating her." The indictment alleges that Ibarra "seriously disfigured" Riley "by striking her head multiple times with a rock."

Police have said that Ibarra did not know Riley. Rather, they described the horrific murder as a "crime of opportunity."

Ibarra, an immigrant from Venezuela, has been living in the U.S. since September 2022 when he entered illegally near El Paso, Texas. After entering illegally, Ibarra was taken into custody and then paroled.

Immigration officials say Ibarra later moved to New York City, where he had encounters with police. Last September, Ibarra was charged with a felony for "acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation," but he was released from jail before Immigration and Customs Enforcement could lodge a detainer against him. New York City is a "sanctuary city."

Ibarra then moved to Georgia last fall.

Tragically, ICE was able to lodge a detainer against Ibarra only after Riley's murder.

Gun-toting Texas Dad shoots at peeping Tom outside his daughter's bedroom window, says culprit lunged at him with knife

A Texas father said he shot at a peeping Tom outside his daughter's bedroom window after the culprit lunged at him with a knife, KENS-TV reported.

What are the details?

San Antonio police told the station the man's daughter caught someone staring at her through her bedroom window around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, and she immediately left her room and told her dad.

The father ventured outside and caught the man near his daughter's window, and he told police the man pulled out a knife and lunged at him, KENS reported.

With that, the father said he pulled out a gun and shot several times toward the suspect, the station said.

Police told KENS they didn't find anyone with gunshot wounds. A police helicopter searched the area as well and couldn't locate anyone, the station said. The incident occurred in the 6800 block of Seco Creek near Loop 1604 on the far northwest side of town, KENS said.

Police added to the station that suspect is described as being in his 30s with a beard.

The father is not expected to face any charges, police told KENS.

Another peeping Tom incident

In June 2021, a Texas father and mother allegedly caught a man fondling himself while looking at their young daughter through her bedroom window. The child spotted the man, screamed, and her armed parents ran into her bedroom and then into the front yard to confront the suspect.

The suspect fled across the street to a Valero gas station, and while the mom held the suspect at gunpoint, the dad asked the attendant to call police. But the suspect wrestled with the mom, took her gun, and pointed it at her — after which the dad shot the suspect three times.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's office, the suspect was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

Serial Peeping Tom who videotaped hundreds of people, including children, once again released from custody

Career sexual deviant Erric Morton, 35, was arrested for planting numerous cameras in bathrooms around Ann Arbor, Michigan. Morton was charged with 12 felonies, including the possession of child pornography, capturing images of an unclothed person, and using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned on September 7.

Starbucks, Sweetwater Coffee, Vertex Coffee, Bath and Body Works, and Gallup Park were among the locations in which Morton hid cameras.

Some of his cameras were reportedly disguised as USB outlets, whereas others may have appeared as pens, which he clipped beneath sinks.

Police said the footage Morton captured he later distributed online.

Deputy Chief Jason Forsberg of the Ann Arbor Police Department told WXYZ-TV that, following a tip, the AAPD served two search warrants on July 22 with the support of the Michigan State Police's cybercrime unit. In Morton's possession, they allegedly "found hundreds of photographs and videos of people in various states of undress." Police also seized multiple electronics devices from Morton's home.

As police continue to determine precisely who and how many people were victimized, Morton walks free, having posted a $100,000 bond. It is unclear who raised the money.

Ann Arbor Police Lt. Bonnie Theil told WDIV, "We see it as tremendously heinous and just a horrible violation and we want to get him off the streets. ... Unfortunately, we see a lot of recidivism in sexual deviance crimes."

This is not the first time Morton captured images of unclothed people, including children, without their knowledge.

He was sentenced for similar crimes in 2006 by Washtenaw County Trial Judge David Dwartz under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act — an act that may have resulted in Morton's criminal predilection and record initially being hidden from the public.

According to court documents, in 2015 Morton was also charged with 17 felony counts related to the illegal capture and surveillance of unclothed people. Between 2010 and 2015, he had collected over 7,000 videos taken in the bathrooms at little league games.

Among his many offenses, Morton reportedly cut holes in portable toilets at Candy Cane Park in Ypsilanti. Whenever a victim would enter one of the surveilled toilets, he would enter an adjacent one. Ultimately, witnesses caught onto his scheme and called the police. Despite giving chase upon his discovery, he was later captured.

MLive noted that in addition to his toilet cameras, Morton employed a shoe camera, which he used to film underneath women's skirts.

He was released May 26, 2015, on a $10,000 bond. Nearly a year later, he was sentenced and thrown in jail.

After six years in prison, police believe Morton resumed peeping as soon as he was released on parole, on January 27, 2022.

Ann Arbor police indicated on September 9 that they were still attempting to identify additional victims. The AAPD has created a site for anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Morton to file a report.

Dad shoots 'peeping Tom' after allegedly catching creep staring at his young daughter through her bedroom window

A Texas father took action with his licensed firearm over the weekend after allegedly catching a man peeping at his young daughter through her bedroom window and fondling himself.

What happened?

The father, along with his wife, reportedly confronted an intoxicated man who was inappropriately touching himself outside their 10-year-old daughter's window late Sunday night, according to KTRK-TV.

The child spotted the man first and screamed, alerting her parents to the situation.

When they came running into the bedroom, the couple said they saw the man looking into their child's window. The parents, both armed with handguns, then ran into the front yard and attempted to detain the "peeping Tom."

The father reportedly told Harris County Sheriff's deputies that he and his wife instructed the man to lie down in the grass and wait for police to arrive, but the suspect didn't listen. Instead, he fled across the street to a Valero gas station, and the couple followed him.

At the gas station, the father recalled to KTRK that while he went inside to ask the attendant to call the police, his wife held the suspect at gunpoint.

The suspect, however, was able to wrestle with the mother and take her gun away. The father said he exited the gas station to find the man pointing a gun at his wife — and that's when he opened fire, striking the man three times.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Deputies noted that both the husband and wife are licensed handgun carriers.

What else?

The mother, who wishes to remain unidentified, later recalled the terrifying details of the incident to KPRC-TV.

"She looks over at the window and this guy is at her window," the mother said of her daughter. "I can't say that he tried to take my daughter's innocence. He took my daughter's innocence."

Then describing what was going through her mind when the suspect wrestled with her in the gas station parking lot, she said, "He is wrestling with me, with my gun, and I'm like, 'I'm not going to let you get my gun, you are not going to kill me or shoot me.'"

"My husband just said he heard a 'ca, ca,' but by that time the guy had already grabbed me, got my gun, and pulled it on myself," she said.

"We didn't want this guy to get shot," the mother added. "We were waiting for police to detain him because I'm pretty sure if he did this to my children, he's doing it to a lot of other children out here."

"We are praying for the suspect and we are also praying for his family," the mother went on to say. "Because [just like how] we have children, a mother, a father, grandparents, and friends, and other family — he does, too."

Anything else?

The father, who also wishes to remain unidentified, reportedly told KTRK that his daughter had complained about someone watching her through the window in the past, but he didn't believe her.

He added that while he pursued the suspect across the street, the man pleaded with him, saying he "wouldn't do it again."

The incident will now reportedly be referred to the Harris County District Attorney's Office for a grand jury review.
