Police union demands Democratic California mayor resign amid federal probe, upcoming recall vote

The Oakland Police Officer's Association called for Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao (D) to resign immediately on Tuesday amid an ongoing federal investigation and an upcoming recall vote, Fox News Digital reported.

The union's president, Huy Nguyen, stated during a recent news conference that Thao's office had depleted resources from law enforcement and failed to address the city's ongoing crime crisis.

'The process drags out longer.'

"Today we are asking Mayor Sheng Thao to recall as mayor immediately for a lot of the failures in this city, going from crime, the budget crisis, the distraction of the FBI raid that prevents our ability to function as a city," Nguyen stated, according to KTVU. "Every day, our citizens feel the tragedies. That they cannot exit their own home or walk to the streets of Oakland, calling 911 and not getting the services they need."

According to Nguyen, because of understaffing issues and limited police resources, the department has been unable to respond to every emergency call or it runs the risk of longer response times.

Following the police union's demands, Thao released a video statement on social media attempting to defend her track record.

"It's really unfortunate that the OPOA is obviously playing politics," Thao stated. "Right now, during this very sensitive time, we need to come together. We see that what we are working on, in regards to the comprehensive approach for public safety, is working."

Thao, pulling Oakland Police Department data, contended that the crime rate for many offenses is down, including homicide, aggravated assault, rape, robbery, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

"Public safety is my number one priority," Thao continued. "Under my administration, we've had the most officers on the street than we've ever had in the last three and a half years."

The police union pushed back on Thao's claims, noting that not enough has been done to provide law enforcement with the required resources.

Tim Dolan, vice president of the Oakland POA, stated, "This is a time to invest more in the city, hire more police officers, retain the police officers and fix the crime issue. And going forward, that's what we'd like to see from the next mayor."

Thao will face a recall election in November after residents gathered more than enough verified signatures to force the vote. However, the police union believes the mayor should not wait that long.

"If she resigns by this week, the election will take place in November, versus waiting through the recall. Then it will happen in April and the process drags out longer when we need to work into the new budget immediately," Nguyen explained.

Thao is also currently wrapped up in an FBI investigation. While no charges have been filed against her, Thao's home was raided by federal agents last month.

The mayor has maintained that the probe is "not about" her. However, the investigation recently expanded, with the FBI requesting phone directory records from the Oakland Police Department. The federal investigators also requested documents showing all federal funding sources since 2021.

Former police chief says what we've all been thinking about Jen Psaki

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has done it again. It's almost as though she is purposely trying to be unlikeable. But, she is the press secretary, so Americans must endure the spectacle of sidestepping tough questions and her failed attempts to appear charming.

Jen Psaki did herself no favors when she made an appearance on a left-leaning podcast and joked that media coverage of violence in major cities like New York came from an "alternate universe." RNC Research shared a clip of the interview on Twitter.

"CNN [is saying] 'Pentagon: As many as 8,500 US troops on heightened alert.' OK, true," Psaki said. "Same on MSNBC. CNBC is doing their own thing about the market."

"And then, on Fox is ['The Five' co-host] Jeanine Pirro talking about 'soft-on-crime consequences. I mean, what does that even mean, right? So, there's just an alternate universe on some coverage. What's scary about it is, a lot of people watch that," Psaki added.

Michigan gubernatorial candidate and former Detroit police chief James Craig joined Fox Business Anchor Maria Bartiromo on Sunday and discussed Psaki's dismissive attitude toward crime in America.

Bartiromo asked the former police chief to give his reaction to Jen Psaki, saying, "What does that even mean."

"She's pathetic," Craig responded. "That smug, disrespectful attitude, in addition to apologizing to the men and women who serve, how about apologizing to victims and victims' families."

The conversation shifted to focus on progressive policies that defund the police and dramatically alter the federal prison system.

LAPD union calls for NBA to investigate LeBron James tweet: ‘One of the biggest hypocrites out there is LeBron James’

Detective Jamie McBride, leader of the Los Angeles Police Protective League Board of Directors, wants the NBA to investigate LeBron James over his decidedly anti-police tweet as it was apparently meant to incite violence.

What are the details?

McBride spoke with Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Tuesday and said that the Lakers star is a hypocrite, and his tweet was nothing short of dangerous.

He is now urging the league to investigate the basketball player and told Ingraham that he and the organization sent a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Sliver to formally request an investigation to determine if James violated any league policies with his tweet.

James came under fire earlier this month after tweeting a photo of the police officer involved in the shooting death of Ohio teen Ma'Khia Bryan, which he captioned, "YOU'RE NEXT. #ACCOUNTABILITY."

"LeBron James sent that tweet out to over 50 million followers to incite violence, is basically what that tweet did," he said, and added that the NBA ought to speak up over James' sentiment.

"Celebrities all throughout Los Angeles ... and LeBron James hire off-duty police officers who do security at their houses for him, but they won't mention them in anything because obviously, they're going to look bad to their followers," McBride explained. "They're trying to create this image of being a crusader and what they are is inciting violence."

He added that James is easily "one of the biggest hypocrites out there."

"One of the biggest hypocrites out there is LeBron James," McBride insisted. "LeBron James has talked time and time again about police officers and how bad, they're all killers. However, they're also doing protection at his house. Off-duty officers provide security for him and his family. So you have killers at his house providing security for him."

NYPD union attacks city leadership's 'double standard' for suspending 'Trump 2020' cop but praising chief for kneeling with BLM protesters

New York City leaders were enraged over the weekend after an NYPD officer declared "Trump 2020" over his patrol car loudspeaker multiple times Saturday night and told the public they would find and deal with him.

Now that NYPD officials have suspended the officer, the police union is ripping city and police leadership for their actions, declaring the move to be a blatant double standard, the New York Post reported.

What happened?

After video of the cop's actions went viral, Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) vowed to find and take action against the offending officer, saying, "Let me be clear: ANY NYPD Officer pushing ANY political agenda while on duty will face consequences. We will act fast here, and this will not be tolerated."

NYPD officials also said they were investigating the incident, and Chief of Department Terence Monahan promised the cop in question would "be dealt with."

According to the Post, police sources identified the officer as Arthur Becerra of the 70th Precinct, and he was suspended without pay Sunday.

What did the union say?

The Sergeants Benevolent Association went after NYPD and city leadership, accusing them of a "double standard" since the officials who declared a political statement by law enforcement to be "one hundred percent unacceptable" had only praise for Chief Monahan when he took a knee with Black Lives Matter protesters.

"The NYPD has a history of officers making political & outside the norm statements & ignoring it," the SBA tweeted. "Suspending, this officer is unnecessary & way over the top. Chief of Departrnent [sic] took a knee with protestors no disciplinary action was issued. What if the officer supported Biden?"

After the NYPD reported that the officer who had shouted "Trump 2020" had been immediately suspended without pay, the SBA responded, "What's the status of this investigation? Oh wait double standard white shirt immunity!" — referring to Monahan's BLM protest photo.

Then the union had a direct comment for Monahan himself, saying that his ... manhood ... was under the control of Mayor de Blasio.

"Terence you said nothing when Captains & Chiefs took a knee with violent protesters who injured members of the NYPD," the SBA tweeted. "You say nothing to those who sing & dance in uniform. Now your little itsy-bitsy balls are in DeBlasio's [sic] palm & you tweet nonsense. Relax & take a knee!"
