'Chief diversity officer' at Johns Hopkins Medicine makes extraordinary admission after offering definition of 'privilege'

Johns Hopkins Medicine's chief diversity officer is backtracking after sending a controversial email in which she declared that even "English-speaking people" have "privilege."

In this month's "Diversity Digest" from the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Dr. Sherita Hill Golden sent an email telling subscribers that "privilege" is the "diversity word of the month," and then she offered her definition of the word.

"Privilege is an unearned benefit given to people who are in a specific social group," she wrote. "Privilege operates on personal, interpersonal, cultural and institutional levels, and it provides advantages and favors to members of dominant groups at the expense of members of other groups."

According to Golden, people in the following "social identity groups" are "granted" privilege in the U.S.:

 • White people
 • Able-bodied people
 • Heterosexuals
 • Cisgender people
 • Males
 • Christians
 • Middle- or owning-class people
 • Middle-aged people
 • English-speaking people

Golden claimed that privilege is "characteristically invisible" to those who have it, thus making them members of "dominant groups." People who have privilege, said Golden, mistakenly believe that others who don't have their same privilege can earn it.

After the email gained unwanted attention online, Golden released a statement with a full-throated apology, saying she "deeply regret[s]" what she previously wrote.

"The intent of the newsletter is to inform and support an inclusive community at Hopkins, but the language of this definition clearly did not meet that goal," Golden said in her follow-up message.

Ironically, Golden admitted that her definition — coming from Johns Hopkins Medicine's office of DIHE, no less — was actually "exclusionary."

"In fact, because it was overly simplistic and poorly worded, it had the opposite effect of being exclusionary and hurtful to members of our community," she admitted. "I retract and disavow the definition I shared, and I am sorry."

In a statement, Johns Hopkins acknowledged that the language Golden used "contradicts" the values of the university.

"The January edition of the monthly newsletter from the Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity used language that contradicts the values of Johns Hopkins as an institution," a university spokesperson said.

"Dr. Sherita Golden, Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Chief Diversity Officer, has sincerely acknowledged this mistake and retracted the language used in the message," the spokesperson added.

Are the rumors of Tom Brady's and Gisele Bundchen's marital woes justified?

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are rumored to be having marital issues in connection to Tom's decision to come out of retirement for another football season. In this clip, Jason Whitlock and his panel hash out the alleged marital woes and choose sides — Team Tom or Team Gisele.

Marital complications reported in the New York Post came to light after Tom ghosted training camp for three days and told the team he was having issues at home upon his return.

In Jason's view, Gisele's discontent is justified because the runaway model icon believed her husband was committed to retirement. "I think she has every right to be upset because happiness is based on expectations," Jason said, adding that Tom shouldn't dangle the retirement carrot in front of her and then snatch it back and not expect her to be mad about it.

Jason's guests, Shemeka Michelle and Steve Kim, disagree. Watch the clip to find out why.

Privilege checklist SHAMES heterosexuals for being born STRAIGHT

Project Humanities at Arizona State University declared that if you are heterosexual, then, you guessed it, you are privileged. Chad Prather shed light on one of Sam Killerman's privilege lists that he created to "help people of privilege learn to empathize with other non-privileged individuals."

If you have immediate access to your loved ones in case of an accident or emergency, you are privileged. At least, that is what Killerman believes. He also lists receiving congratulations for an engagement, public displays of affection without fear of violent reactions from others, and openly living with your partner as examples of heterosexual privilege.

Chad gave an overview of Killerman's list and made a most convincing case to expose the hypocrisy of this list of "privileges." "Here's the problem," Chad explained. "People who are gay say they are born that way. Then, by logical conclusion, people who are heterosexual are born that way too. There are statistically more heterosexuals than homosexuals, so you are shaming and subverting the dominant paradigm and are blaming people for the sheer fact that they are in the majority. You want them to feel shame for the way they were born.

"So, in essence, that is the same logic you say people are using against you. You say there is prejudicial action coming against you for how you are born. So which is it? What's it going to be? Killerman is using the same problematic circular reasoning."

Killerman's perceived "straight people only" privileges include "learning about romance from fictional movies" and "sharing insurance policies at reduced rates." This listis one of many found on the Project Humanities website.

Public school teaching tool reportedly says being a 'military kid' means you have 'privilege' — and reaction is pointed

Virginia's Fairfax County Public Schools is in the news yet again, as the Daily Wire reported that a teaching tool indicates that being a "military kid" is among a long list of privileges.

What are the details?

The outlet referred to an image of a blue grid titled "Identifying Your Privilege."

Each box of the grid — except the center box titled "Free Space" — contains a privilege. The privileges are:

 • Native English speaker
 • Comfortable walking outside alone
 • Heterosexual
 • College is the expectation
 • Have your own bedroom
 • Both parents went to college
 • White
 • Christian
 • Never been racially profiled
 • Involved in extracurricular activities
 • Never worried about food
 • Parents are married
 • Feel represented in media
 • Cisgender
 • Drive/get driven to school
 • Born in country of residence
 • Feel safe around police officers
 • Able-bodied
 • Never lost a loved one
 • Employed
 • No speech impediment
 • Mentally healthy
 • Military kid
 • Male

The Daily Wire called out one of the listed privileges that it said was part of “privilege” bingo — being a "military kid."

A Fairfax County (Virginia) Public Schools curriculum has students play “privilege” bingo, giving them privilege points if they are white, male, employed or “involved in extra curricular [sic] activities,” or “feel represented in the media.”pic.twitter.com/ztyQYdO8Ya

The outlet said shocked parents indicated that being a child in a military family instead can mean regularly moving away from friends, not seeing a parent for months at a time, dealing with post-traumatic stress, and risking becoming an orphan.

The Daily Wire reported that complaining parents received a note from Assistant Superintendent Douglas A. Tyson that said:

The screen shot you reference comes from an approved FCPS English Curriculum lesson that is centered around students selecting a “choice” test and examining in detail the author’s perspective on a wide-range [sic] of issues. Students are asked, in the lesson, to read critically and think critically about the author’s perspective on several fronts including the author’s privilege that may or may not be present in the work. Students are then asked independently and self reflectively to juxtapose their thoughts regarding any perceived privilege they think they may have and how they would potentially rewrite portions of the text. Students are not asked or required to report out their self-reflections. This lesson is an adept vehicle to push student thinking to challenge the author’s thoughts/conclusions and to sharpen their ability to critically lead selected texts.

The outlet said a Fairfax County Public Schools spokeswoman did not immediately return the Daily Wire's request for comment.

How did folks react?

Twitter users ripped the school district for its reported use of a teaching tool that singles out being a "military kid" as one of many privileges:

 • "Amazing how liberals hate those who serve and protect America," one commenter wrote. "Any teacher who tells a child that because his mom or dad is in the military that they have 'privilege' should be fired immediately."
 • "This is despicable," another user declared.
 • "Any privileges children of military members have has been earned," another commenter said.
 • "Privilege?" another user asked rhetorically. "More like sacrifice for their country. Something a liberal would never understand."

Oh, and one commenter turned the reported idea of military kids' privilege on its head: "I was very privileged to grow up around the men, women & families who sacrifice more in their lives than most Americans will ever know."

In Defiance Of Youngkin, Fairfax Public School Demands High Schoolers Participate In ‘Privilege Bingo’

In defiance of Gov. Glenn Youngkin, one Fairfax County public school asked students to participate in a 'privilege bingo.'

Woke lesson at public high school told students they're privileged if they're Christian, straight, or male. Now district reportedly is doing damage control.

A California school district reportedly went into damage control mode after the Daily Signal called it out for lessons that told high school students they are the beneficiaries of privilege if they are Christian, male, or straight.

What are the details?

The Desert Sands Unified School District in La Quinta, which is in Riverside County, said it was taking “corrective” measures after the lessons came to light, the outlet said.

"The lesson was not in alignment with the district-adopted curriculum” and “actions are being taken to rectify the situation," the district told the Daily Signal in a statement, adding that "the teacher was operating outside the scope of [the] adopted curriculum and had potentially presented a biased position. Corrective action is underway.”

The outlet said it hasn't been able to identify which teacher used the lesson.

District parent Celeste Fiehler posted the lesson in the Facebook group Informed Parents of California after another parent told her about it, the Daily Signal said.

What do the materials say?

The outlet said pages from lessons dated Nov. 15 to 19 tell students if they “don’t have to think about it, it’s a privilege.”

“If you can use public bathrooms without stares, fear, or anxiety, you have cisgender privilege,” one graphic reads, the Daily Signal reported, adding that another graphic reads, "If, while growing up, college was an expectation of you, not a lofty dream, you have class privilege.”

Fiehler said in her Facebook post that the material was used in a ninth-grade English class in which students were told “no cellphones allowed," the outlet said.

“Wonder why,” she added in her post, according to the Daily Signal.

The outlet said neither La Quinta High School nor Desert Sands Unified School District immediately responded to its requests for comment.

Don't forget about white privilege!

The Daily Signal said the lesson plans appear to be from a 2014 University of San Francisco Intercultural Center campaign with messages such as:

 • "If you can expect time off from work to celebrate your religious holidays, you have Christian privilege;"
 • “If you’re confident that police exist to protect you, you have white male privilege;"
 • “If you cannot be legally fired from work because of your perceived sexuality, you have heterosexual privilege."

'Propaganda of these diversity, equity, and inclusion folks'

Such lesson plans and visual messages “reduce human beings and children to the lowest common denominator,” Asra Nomani, vice president for strategy and investigations with the grassroots education organization Parents Defending Education, told the outlet.

She added to the Daily Signal that "a child who happens to grow up with an expectation of college should not be shamed. A child who grows up heterosexual should not be made to feel like they are carrying some kind of privilege.”

Nomani also told the outlet "what's so ironic is that these posters negate the entire philosophy of honoring a person’s ‘lived experience,’ [which is part of] the propaganda of these diversity, equity, and inclusion folks. All it does is erase human beings and reduce them to labels."

Whitlock: Aaron Rodgers proves freedom is far more valuable than privilege

NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers' Tuesday interview with podcaster Pat McAfee caused me to reflect on the value of freedom.

Rodgers, of course, has been embroiled in controversy the last week. He tested positive for COVID, and it became clear he was unvaxxed. Previously, he'd concealed his unvaccinated status by telling the media he had been immunized against the virus that poses virtually no threat to 37-year-old healthy professional athletes.

Last Friday, Rodgers appeared on McAfee's show and explained why he didn't take the vaccine. He criticized cancel culture, the woke mob popular on Twitter, and the NFL's illogical COVID protocols. He voiced the concerns of many professional athletes and ordinary American citizens.

Yesterday, he returned to the McAfee show and attempted to put the controversy to bed.

"I'm an athlete; I'm not an activist," Rodgers said. "So I'm going to get back to doing what I do best, and that's playing ball. I shared my opinion. It wasn't one that was come to frivolously. It involved a lot of study and what I felt like was in my best interest for my body. But further comments I'm going to keep between myself and my doctors. I don't have any further comments about any of those things after this interview."

Aaron Rodgers just exercised his freedom. He's free to embrace being an athlete. There's no pressure on him to be more than an athlete. No one expects him to be the next Muhammad Ali. That burden is only placed on the shoulders of black athletes. White athletes are free to be whatever and whoever they want to be.

White liberals strip black athletes of that freedom. White liberals force black professional athletes to be more than what their life experience has prepared them to be. Great athletes spend their teenage years totally coddled. From age 12 to around 25, their primary focus is on maximizing their physical gifts, not their intellectual ones. Given the financial rewards of professional sports, it would be foolish for someone as big and physically gifted as LeBron James or J.J. Watt to spend an equal amount of energy on intellectual development as physical development. There's a short window to take advantage of your body. You have an entire lifetime to develop your mind.

Aaron Rodgers, like Michael Jordan, wants to be the best athlete he can be while his body cooperates. Rodgers will worry about being more than an athlete when he's done earning $30 million a year playing football. Rodgers is free to do that.

Black athletes are the pawns of the liberal media. If they don't pretend to deeply care about the welfare of a career criminal loaded on fentanyl and arguing with the police, black athletes are labeled as bad people, sellouts. A black college student with no criminal record must see himself when looking at George Floyd.

We must say to ourselves, "That could be me."

White people are free to think whatever they want. They walk by homeless drug addicts on the street and feel no burden to deeply empathize with them. They're free to pursue happiness, success, and fulfillment. We, black people, must publicly pretend that we have all had a near-death experience with police. We're forced to live a lie. Living a lie compromises and inhibits freedom. It clouds the mind and provokes irrational thought and behavior.

It's a lack of freedom that separates white men from black men.

The left's focus on "white privilege" is a brilliant tactic to distract from and diminish the importance of freedom. According to progressives, privilege is the exclusive domain of American white men. In order to be truly equal, racial minorities, women, and the LGBTQ must have unfettered access to privilege.

If there is ever a reiteration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic March on Washington, Al Sharpton will shout, "Privileged at last, privileged at last, thank God almighty, we're privileged at last."

The truth is, however, that what separates white men from black men in 2021 is not privilege. It's an appreciation for freedom and an understanding of how best to use it. America's most valuable commodity is freedom. Black Americans spent more than 300 years fighting for it. We won it, in full, in the 1960s, when Dr. King's civil rights movement forced the erasure of state and federal laws that limited our God-given, constitutionally guaranteed inalienable rights.

God-fearing men of integrity won the long war. The left immediately pivoted to denigrating the victory and redefining America's greatest resource as privilege. Freedom is fool's gold. Real equality, fulfillment, and happiness can only be attained by those born into or granted privilege.

The seeds for the privilege rights movement were planted 60 years ago. The movement fully blossomed in the last decade. Privilege rights activists popped up all across social media. Shaun King, DeRay Mckesson, and the LGBTQ founders of Black Lives Matters rose to power. The left championed author Ta-Nehisi Coates as the Martin Luther King Jr. of the privilege rights movement. After wealth, fame, and Disney deals assassinated Coates' work ethic, Ibram X. Kendi bathed himself in the blood of Coates and assumed the role of Jesse Jackson for the PRM.

Colin Kaepernick grew an afro and cast himself as Huey Newton, leader of the Black Panther Party. LeBron James read the first paragraph of Malcolm X's book, learned to pronounce the word systemic, and styled himself as Muhammad Ali.

It seems like I'm mocking Kaepernick and James. I actually feel sorry for them. They've been lied to by corporate media. Many of the black sports journalists they befriend want black athletes to pretend to be more than athletes so that sports journalists can pretend to be more than they are.

Aaron Rodgers has the freedom to demonstrate self-awareness and be exactly what life has prepared him to be at age 37. He's a great quarterback. He's no one's dumb jock.
