Anti-oil activist tells colleagues their movement is too 'white' and 'middle-class' and needs to work with more Muslims

An activist from the group Just Stop Oil told informed colleagues during a meeting that the movement needed to shift away from being seen as a white, middle-class group of activists and focus more on being inclusive to all.

The activist, known only as Olive, has been pictured in anti-oil protests including when the group halted traffic on the London Bridge in June 2023.

A reporter infiltrated the eco-group's weekly strategy discussion over meeting software Zoom, where the team of environmentalists opined about its public image.

Olive reportedly made pleas to the meeting's 50 attendees, who were reportedly taken aback when she said the group needed to push for more diversity.

"One of our key aims in this shift is to break out of this white, middle-class, student bubble that a lot of the time we find ourselves in," she declared. She added that the group needed to make their "spaces and actions something that all young people want to be a part of."

The leader, said to be in her 20s, stated that the group was creating a new youth division called Youth Demand, with a focus to increasingly target the rich. In addition to this plan, another element of the group's approach would be to work with more Muslim groups, including a group called Palestine Action.

It was also revealed by the journalist that the group planned to join forces with the pro-Palestinian activists to cause a significant disruption in central London, England, the Daily Mail reported.

"This month, we're doing high-profile action to launch our campaign into the headlines."

"In April, from 7th to 11th, young people from across the country are coming together to take action in London. They're going to be targeting individuals and institutions who are acting that genocide is acceptable. We're going to show that we're on to them and they cannot hide their crimes," the activist said in reference to the Israel-Palestine war.

The undercover journalist said the anti-oil and Palestinian groups planned to meet for a "mass civil disobedience action" in London to argue that energy companies are fueling the Israeli military and, as such, displacing and killing Palestinians.

The Just Stop Oil group has effectively made disrupting public events and day-to-day traffic its primary form of protest. June and July 2023 were busy summer months for the activists, with showcases of disruptive behavior boiling over into reactions from the public.

Along with the aforementioned bridge protest, June 2023 saw activists doused with a bucket of water from a balcony as they slow-walked down a busy road.

In mid-July 2023, a protester was dragged away after disrupting a university's graduation ceremony with orange paint. Just Stop Oil frequently has spread orange paint at public events, which typically causes minor disruptions in activities and only annoys onlookers, with any environment-related messaging going by the wayside.

About a week later, the activists were met by counterprotesters while again trying to block a busy English road. The counter-demonstrators surrounded the anti-oil activists wearing shirts that read "Just Stop Pissing Everyone Off."

It was unclear if the group was involved with Just Stop Oil, given the alleged ease with which they willingly ended their resistance. Metro UK cited a Twitter user who claimed the counterprotest was "a stunt to try and make them seem reasonable."

DeSantis fights back when leftist blames him for racially motivated attack: 'I'm not going to take that'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) promptly shut down on Thursday a leftist opponent who blamed him for the Jacksonville shooting last month.

At an event celebrating Florida's pro-freedom positions on mask mandates and lockdowns, a member of the audience accused DeSantis of being responsible for a "racially motivated" shooting at a Jacksonville Dollar General last month that left three black Floridians murdered.

Specifically, the person, a black man who identified himself as someone who disagrees with DeSantis' policies, accused DeSantis of having "enacted policies that hurt people like myself" because he has "allowed weapons" to be put into the hands of "immature, hateful" people who carry out violence.

But DeSantis refused to let those accusations stand.

"First of all, I did not allow anything with that," DeSantis said. "I'm not gonna let you accuse me of committing criminal activity. I am not going to take that. I'm not going to take that. You want to have a civil conversation, that's one thing — try to say that I'm letting — that guy was Baker Act-ed. He should have been ruled ineligible, but they didn't involuntarily commit him."

"Please allow me to speak my truth, sir," the man responded.

"No, no. No, no. There is the truth. There is something about the truth. It's not — everyone doesn't have their own truth," DeSantis fired back, to loud applause. "You don't get to come here and blame me for some madman. That is not appropriate, and I'm not going to accept it."

Shockingly, the man then accused DeSantis of allowing people "to hunt people like me."

"Oh, that is nonsense. That is such nonsense," the governor responded. "We've done more to support law enforcement in this state than anybody in throughout the United States. Our crime rate in Florida is at a 50-year low. We have enacted policies so that people have a chance to live in safety."

According to WJXT-TV, security escorted the man out after the exchange.

Unfortunately, the man was not the first person to accuse DeSantis of being responsible for the Jacksonville tragedy. State Rep. Angie Nixon (D), for example, claimed DeSantis has "blood on his hands," and various religious leaders have also blamed DeSantis.

Those critics, however, cannot point to any policies or actions that definitively demonstrate DeSantis shares responsibility for last month's attack.

Animal-rights protester who ran onto field files police report against LA Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner who clobbered him; lawyer says protester may have case

The animal-rights protester who ran onto the playing field during a Monday Night Football game this week filed a police report against Los Angeles Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner, who famously clobbered the protester and sent him to the turf, ESPN reported.

What's more, an attorney said the protester may have a case.

What are the details?

Santa Clara Police Department Lt. Cuong Phan said the police report was filed Tuesday afternoon and that information will be limited since it's an active investigation, ESPN reported.

ESPN, citing TMZ Sports, added that individual who filed the report is an activist for the Berkeley, California-based animal-rights group Direct Action Everywhere and was trying to "raise awareness for a trial involving the alleged theft of pigs from a factory farm."

Direction Action Everywhere identified the protester in question as Alex Taylor.

What's the background?

During the second quarter of Monday night's game at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California — the home field of the San Francisco 49ers — Taylor ran onto the field with a device emitting pink smoke and successfully evaded security personnel, one of whom slipped and fell in the process.

As Taylor skirted near the Rams' sideline, Wagner emerged and put a full-speed lick on the woke demonstrator, who immediately collapsed to the turf. Fellow Rams linebacker Takkarist McKinley also closed in on Taylor, ESPN said — but it was Wagner who made the big hit.

Here's a look at it from a few angles — it's safe to say onlookers were pleased:

In a now-deleted tweet, Direct Action Everywhere posted a photo of Taylor following the incident holding a police citation and saying he had a burn on his arm.

What did Wagner have to say?

Wagner said Wednesday he knows about the police report but has larger concerns on his mind, ESPN reported.

"Can't really focus on it," Wagner said, according to the sports network. "I'm more concerned about the security guard that was hurt trying to chase him. ... You just got to do what you got to do."

Wagner repeated Wednesday his concern that players never know what trespassers on the field have in their hands or pockets, ESPN said.

"There's consequences for your actions," Wagner added, according the sports network.

Rams coach Sean McVay has Taylor's back, ESPN said: "I think that we all know where Bobby's intentions were ... and I support Bobby Wagner. That's where I'm at with that. I don't think anybody will disagree."

Attorney says protester may have a case

Los Angeles personal injury attorney Rony Barsoum told KTTV-TV the protester may have a case against Taylor under California law.

"You have to provide a reasonable amount of safety, even for trespassers," Barsoum told the station, adding that if "someone trespasses on your premises" and gets injured by "something dangerous on your premises ... that can be a claim, even though he was trespassing. So you do owe a duty of safety, even to trespassers."

Barsoum added to KTTV that the protester can claim that Wagner "didn't need to tackle him" and that "security was gonna get him" and Wagner "didn't have to hit him that hard." The station also pointed out that Wagner can claim he feared for his and others' safety and was therefore justified in knocking the protester down.

VIDEO: Protester shows reporter can of soup 'for my family' — then winks at camera. Protesters have pelted cops with cans amid Daunte Wright rioting.

A protester in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, got a little cute with CNN reporter Sara Sidner during an on-camera interview Wednesday night amid a crowd gathering in response to the police-involved fatal shooting of Daunte Wright.

What happened?

The protester told Sidner , "I'm just standing here today with soup for my family" — and as he held aloft a can, the protester winked for the camera.

The protester continued speaking following his wink: "We're just, you know, watching this unfold; it's very unfortunate."

Sidner apparently picked up on the wink, as she inquired, "You're not planning on using that are you? Throwing it at police?"

The protester replied — this time with no wink — "Like I said, it's for my family."

"Literally for your family?" she pressed.

"Yeah," he answered.

"Alright," Sidner said as the clip ended.

I don’t think that can of soup is for his family. #CNN #BreakingNews https://t.co/QpTjm2siA7
— SSG JOKER (@SSG JOKER)1618455594.0

The Twitter user who posted the clip included text that read, "I don't think that can of soup is for his family."

A number of commenters pointed out that the protester's "soup for my family" phrase was used last year by former President Donald Trump who described protesters who he said used soup cans as weapons. Here's a clip juxtaposing the protester's words with Trump's words:

Whatever the protester's intentions, it's likely no joke to police. Indeed, former Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon — who resigned Tuesday along with Kim Potter, the officer who pulled the trigger — said during a Monday news conference that amid a "riot" after the shooting "officers that were putting themselves in harm's way were being pelted with frozen cans ... they were being pelted with concrete blocks."

Incredibly, multiple presser attendees pounced on Gannon's use of the term "riot" and ordered him not to utter it, saying "Don't do that!" and "that was no riot!" and "it was not a riot." But Gannon stood his ground: "Yes, there was."

How did folks react to the winking protester?

While the vast majority of commenters enjoyed the protester's words and wink, a handful weren't on board with him:

  • "The fact he can probably throw that and be labeled a hero is sickening," one commenter said. "Not all cops are evil, because if they are, then all black people are criminals, and all Muslims are talaban [sic]. Only fools deal in absolutes."
  • "What an a**hole that guy is, typical of douche @cnn to promote him," another user said.
  • "Surely he'll be donating the soup to the police community aid food drive to help the poor…," another commenter said.

VIDEO: Chaos erupts inside Iowa Capitol building when female protester, 18, is arrested: 'She's a f***in' kid, bro!'

Cellphone video captured the chaos that erupted inside the Iowa Capitol on Thursday as state troopers arrested an 18-year-old protester for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

What are the details?

Members of the Des Moines Black Liberation Movement Collective were inside the Capitol building demonstrating against "racist and dangerous" bills, We Are Iowa reported. The proposed legislation would increase immunity for police and increase penalties for some protest-related offenses, the Des Moines Register reported.

According to a criminal complaint the Register said it reviewed, Iowa State Patrol Trooper Dylan Hernandez stated that Josie Mulvihill asked him and Trooper Dalton Grell for their names and badge numbers. The paper added that Hernandez also stated in the complaint that while he and Grell were about to leave for another assignment, Mulvihill "pushed my arm in an attempt to gain my attention."

Video shows what transpired next. Content warning: profanity:

As soon as Mulvihill was arrested, video shows numerous protesters interfering and even charging toward troopers who pushed them back in response. One of the protesters is heard shouting, "She's a f***in' kid, bro!"

Mulvihill was charged with assaulting a police officer, which the Register characterized as "a serious misdemeanor."

The paper said Mulvihill declined to comment on her arrest before she spoke to an attorney — but she was the source of the criminal complaint the Register reviewed.

Another video of the melee shows Mulvihill approaching the troopers — and it does appear she makes physical contact with one of them. That trooper than began to handcuff Mulvihill:

Mulvihill eventually was forced to the floor.

Here's the clip in question; it contains no audio:

I just spoke to Ashley Dorelus. She tells me there was an arrest during what was suppose to be a peaceful protest… https://t.co/H0D2o5fXs5
— Tisia F. Muzinga (@Tisia F. Muzinga)1617909530.0

Ashley Dorelus, 26, a protester who was next to Mulvihill when she was arrested, told the Register she didn't see Mulvihill assault the officer "whatsoever."

More from the paper:

Mulvihill, who is Black, has been fighting for months against racism, harassment, and bullying in the Norwalk Community School District, where she's a student. She had just addressed Norwalk's school board this week demanding the district change how it addresses discriminatory bullying, harassment, and more.
