Biden admin torched over 'embarrassing and shameful' messaging on inflation
A senior aide on President Joe Biden's administration got torched online after an "embarrassing and shameful" attempt to deflect criticism about skyrocketing inflation.
Jesse Lee, the senior advisor for communications to the National Economic Council, accused Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida of being in "lockstep" with Russian President Vladimir Putin over his criticism of Biden's policies.
"Putin and @SenRickScott fully in lockstep in blaming Biden for Putin’s Price Hike. So surprising," read Lee's tweet sent on Tuesday with screenshots of Scott's critiques.
While the Biden administration has tried to blame inflation on everything from greedy meat conglomerates to the pandemic, polling shows that more Americans believe Biden and his policies are to blame for inflation.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki has also tried to coin the phrase, "Putin's price hike" in an attempt to deflect the criticism.
Many took to social media to excoriate Lee and the Biden administration for the bizarre messaging.
"This is embarrassing and shameful messaging coming from the White House. It's time for President Biden and his advisors to start taking responsibility for their failed policies and out-of-control spending over the last 15 months," responded Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
"The Biden Administration says concern about inflation is being "fully in lockstep" with Putin. No wonder inflation keeps getting worse," replied Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.
"According to the Biden WH & their aides, if you blame them for the skyrocketing inflation & energy prices, you’re an agent of Russia & a Putin puppet. Based on that logic, the WH is saying more than 60% of America is in lockstep with Putin. That should work well in the midterms," said Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida (R).
Polls show that Democrats are likely headed to heavy electoral losses in the midterm elections due to high inflation and other failures of the Biden administration.
