Witnesses reported dozens of gunshots, which forced the mall to go on lockdown.

WFAA reported that there are "multiple victims, including children." The outlet cited the Collin County sheriff, who confirmed that the shooter is dead at the crime scene in Allen, Texas.

There were several armored SWAT vehicles at the Allen Premium Outlets.

The Allen Police Department said, "Law enforcement is on the scene at Allen Premium Outlets. An active investigation is underway. Please avoid the area until further update."

Ambulances from Allen and other neighboring cities responded to the emergency situation.

The Dallas office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said its personnel are "responding to the active shooter incident at Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, TX."

KTRK-TV reported that the FBI is at the crime scene to assist in the investigation into the shooting.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement:

Our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas tonight during this unspeakable tragedy. I have been in contact with Mayor Fulk and DPS Director McCraw as well as other state and local leaders and offered the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources.

Video: Hundreds of teens flood Chicago, cars smashed, driver attacked, 2 teenagers shot

Hundreds of teenagers flooded into the streets of Chicago on Saturday night. In response to the chaos, hundreds of police officers were dispatched to the downtown area after there several cars were damaged by the teenagers.

Around 8 p.m., the mob of teens attempted to storm into Millennium Park. However, people under 21 are not allowed access to the park without being accompanied by an adult.

The horde of teens forced police to escort tourists and locals back to their cars at the Millennium Park garage.

Teens also reportedly attempted to force their way inside the Art Institute of Chicago in an attempted "teen takeover."

Officers from the Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, EMS, and SWAT teams were dispatched to the area.

Rowdy teens smashed the windows of several cars by jumping on the vehicles – including a police cruiser.

Video shows a vehicle being set on fire.

A man sitting in the driver's seat of his car was injured and taken to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a group of teens beat him as they smashed his vehicle.

A witness told WMAQ-TV, "It's heartbreaking, kids fighting, chasing each other, some of them got guns. It's really heartbreaking when one of them actually gets hurt, and that’s unfortunate, happened last night."

CBS News reported that "multiple teens" were arrested – all were under the age of 18.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement, "Last night, CPD monitored activity happening across the city and officers were in place to quickly respond to active incidents and large gatherings. We will continue to have sufficient resources in place as we work to strengthen safety in every neighborhood."

This was the second night of a crowd of teens taking over Chicago. On Friday night, a mob of teenagers gathered at the 31st Street Beach on Friday night. A 14-year-old boy was shot near the crowds.

WLS-TV reported that at least 29 people had been shot, six fatally, in weekend violence in Chicago.

'Stay clear!' Train carrying hazardous materials derails and catches fire in Maine

The latest train derailment occurred in Maine on Saturday. This derailment is especially worrisome since the train was reportedly carrying hazardous material and it caught fire. The train with toxic materials derailed and caught on fire near Maine's largest body of fresh water.

A train transporting hazardous material derailed on Saturday in Rockwood, Maine. The area in the western part of the state is mostly rural. The train derailment happened near Moosehead Lake – one of the largest bodies of freshwater in the state.

The Rockwood Fire & Rescue warned local citizens, "Train derailment with fire north of Rockwood, hazzard materials please stay clear!"

There were reportedly multiple train cars that veered off the track.

It was not specified what kind of hazardous materials the derailed train was transporting.

The Facebook page for the Rockwood Fire & Rescue posted a photo of the train derailment in the snow-covered area near a river.

Somerset County Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Smith told CNN that state responders and emergency agencies from Northern Somerset County were "on scene."

The Portland Press Herald reported, "First responders say the derailment is 3 miles east of Demo Road Bridge. Crews are using heavy equipment to clear a snowmobile trail to get access to the scene."

It is unclear if anyone was injured from the train derailment.

KOKI-TV reported, "The tracks in that area are Central Maine and Quebec Railroad tracks which are now owned by Canadian Pacific Railway."

Train derailments have garnered much more attention since the disaster in East Palestine, Ohio.

Potential massacre averted as armed citizen takes down El Paso mall shooter

A 16-year-old Hispanic male reportedly opened fire inside a Texas mall last week, killing one man and badly injuring three others. After leaving the food court bloody, the youth allegedly took aim at bystanders. The gunman's continued aggression proved to be a fateful slip, for a stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip.

What are the details?

The El Paso Police Department indicated that around 5:05 p.m. on Feb. 15, a dispute between two groups at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso devolved into a brutal melee.

“Police are responding to shots fired in the food court of Cielo Vista Mall, scene still active. Avoid the area.”
— EL PASO POLICE DEPT (@EL PASO POLICE DEPT) 1676506786

The first group reportedly consisted of six Hispanic teenagers, including 17-year-old Angeles Zaragoza and another 17-year-old who was "seriously injured."

The second group of Hispanic youths comprised the 16-year-old alleged shooter, a 20-year-old male, and two other male teenagers.

During a bout of fisticuffs, the shooter reportedly brandished what police have confirmed was a stolen firearm.

Katie Hood, a witness, told CBS Mornings, "We heard the two kids arguing and one of the kids looked at the other one and just said that he was going to kill him. And that's when he pulled out a gun."

The Hispanic youth proceeded to fatally gun down Zaragoza. He also allegedly managed to badly wound one of the decedent's compatriots.

The 20-year-old apparently on the side of the 16-year-old gunman managed to catch a bullet as well.

After the initial bloodletting, the 16-year-old reportedly began to run, taking aim at bystanders, including 32-year-old Emanuel Duran.

According to investigators, Duran was one of multiple legally armed citizens nearby, but evidently the only one needed to bring the mayhem to an end.

As the gunman advanced on Duran and other bystanders, Duran reportedly drew his firearm and shot the suspect. KTXS indicated that Duran shot the gunman at least twice because he felt "threatened."

Duran joined an off-duty EPP officer — who had been working security at a store in the mall at the time of the incident — in rendering aid to the suspect and the others who were injured.

Peter Pacillas, interim chief of the El Paso Police Department, told reporters last week that off-duty officers in the area were on the scene at 5:08 p.m. and that two individuals were taken into custody.

The 16-year-old alleged gunman is reportedly in stable condition.

Video taken inside the mall shows people desperately fleeing the scene of the skirmish as well as what appears to be an arrest of one of the individuals involved:

James O'Keefe leaves Project Veritas after overturned firings, employee complaints

Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe has reportedly resigned, according reporter Neil McCabe of One America News.

McCabe reported on Twitter that O'Keefe read a resignation letter to his staff and board members at the company's headquarters:

"Exclusive: James O'Keefe III, my friend and former boss at Project Veritas, just read his resignation letter to his former team and board members at their Mamaroneck, N.Y. headquarters. James will make his own way—as he always has before," said McCabe.

— ReporterMcCabe (@ReporterMcCabe) 1676911734

McCabe told the Daily Beast that O'Keefe "just resigns and walks out the door to start a new life." “Now we’ll see: Does the organization he created survive?" McCabe added.

Another colleague of O'Keefe however, R.C. Maxwell, claims that O'Keefe was "removed" from Project Veritas.

"This is not accurate. James was removed from his position as CEO by the Project Veritas board. They are in charge now," Maxwell said on Twitter.

Maxwell reported for Project Veritas as recently as three weeks before O'Keefe's alleged ousting.

Less than two weeks before his exit, O'Keefe was placed on paid leave after employees signed a letter condemning some of the founder's actions.

Executive director of Project Veritas Daniel Strack said at the time that O'Keefe was taking “a few weeks of well-deserved [paid time off].”

Prior reports stated that Project Veritas was deeply divided among board members and employees, with some sticking with O'Keefe and others complaining about his leadership.

A third of the company's employees reportedly wrote an internal memo claiming that O'Keefe had been particularly mean to some of them. Employees said they felt “publicly humiliated” by O'Keefe, suffering through what was described as “public crucifixions.”

“I would describe Project Veritas’ current environment with this saying: ‘The beatings will continue until morale improves,’” a staffer wrote in the memo.

Two executives who were fired by O'Keefe were also reportedly reinstated when he was put on leave.

Five days before his departure, Project Veritas remarked on Twitter that "of course James O'Keefe III is alive and well. Why wouldn’t he be? We’re sure many of you can agree, there is nothing better than enjoying a well deserved vacation."

Man hits at least 8 people with U-Haul truck in New York City the day Islamic terrorist faces sentencing for killing 8 people with rental years earlier

A 62-year-old Asian man driving a U-Haul truck allegedly ran over several people in New York City Monday before leading police on a high-speed chase. While two of the victims are in critical condition and another two are in serious condition, no one has yet died from their injuries.

This grievous attack, which Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell described as a "violent rampage through Brooklyn," coincided with the beginning of death penalty sentencing for convicted Islamic terrorist Sayfullo Saipov, who murdered eight people in 2017 while similarly driving a rented truck in New York City.

What are the details?

Police first responded around 10:50 a.m. to reports of a single male erratically driving a U-Haul truck in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn.

According to the Daily Mail, the suspect, who has been identified as Weng Sor, first hit a person riding an e-bike around 11 a.m. near Fifth Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway. When the suspect sped off, going northbound, police gave chase.

ABC7 indicated that when police attempted to pull over the suspect, he yelled, "Shoot me, I'm not stopping," and then veered onto the sidewalk.

The suspect managed to hit seven other people, including a police officer, during his 30-minute rampage before officers were finally able to bring the mayhem to an end.

Eyewitnesses saw pedestrians and e-bike riders splayed out on the ground after the truck barreled through, reported the Associated Press.

A surveillance camera captured the moment when the suspect smashed into an e-bike, sending the driver hurtling through the air, and then nearly flattening a pedestrian:

— R A W S A L E R T S (@R A W S A L E R T S) 1676308775

New York City Councilman Justin Brannan, who deals with Bay Ridge, indicated on Twitter that the suspect was ultimately arrested near the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, which connects Brooklyn to Manhattan.

“Suspect was actually arrested near the BK Battery Tunnel. We think he hit at least 6 people with the truck and 2 are in very bad shape. PLEASE pray for these folks.”
— Justin Brannan (@Justin Brannan) 1676306077

Highway patrol units boxed the U-Haul and its driver against a building at Hamilton Avenue and Columbia Street. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning at the 68th precinct.

"At this time, we have no indication that there is any terrorism involvement in this incident, said Police Commissioner Sewell. "However, as always, we will continue to investigate this incident with the full resources of the NYPD and our partners."

The suspect reportedly rented the U-Haul in Daytona Beach, Florida, in January, and had at least one previous address in Brooklyn. The New York Post suggested that the suspect may have been living out of the truck.

While Sewell maintains that there is presently no evidence of "terrorism involvement," the coincidence of the timing of the attack and the death penalty phase of the Islamic terrorist Saipov's trial has prompted some to consider the other similarities between the two rampages.

Former NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told ABC News, "I worked the Sayfullo Saipov case I remember how dangerous it was and what he did and how deadly it was. That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about the rented truck. So let's hope it's not that and it's a person in mental distress at this point and it's nothing more than that. It's difficult to link the two right now but how can you not think about that?"

35-year-old Saipov drove a rented truck on a West Side bike path, murdering eight people on Oct. 31, 2017. The terrorist said he was inspired by ISIS.

Former President Donald Trump called for Saipov to be taken out via the death penalty. If Trump gets his way, Saipov will reportedly be the first person sentenced to death in the city since 1963.

Watch Eagles fans tip car before Super Bowl even begins

Typically speaking, sports fans engage in joyous rioting such as flipping cars after their team wins the championship. However, Philadelphia Eagles fans wasted no time in damaging property in their own city ahead of the Super Bowl.

Before even one snap of Super Bowl 57, Eagles fans were getting rowdy. Roughly 30 minutes before the kickoff of Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Eagles fans were caught on video tipping over a car.

Video shows disorderly Eagles fans tipping over a vehicle at Temple University in preparation for the Super Bowl game against the Kansas City Chiefs. After the car was flipped on its roof, the Eagles fans danced and cheered. Fans then climbed on top of the toppled car and high-fived each other in celebration.

Celebrations fast turn into injuries as Eagles fans come crashing down

Philadelphia Eagles fans took to the streets Sunday to celebrate their team's decisive NFC Championship victory against the San Francisco 49ers. For a handful of die-hard fans, the only thing evidently capable of bringing down the mood was gravity.

The city's Mayor Jim Kenney cautioned Eagles fans to "celebrate joyously, safely, and respectfully and show the same love we have for our team to our city. Go Birds!"

Roads in downtown Philadelphia were shut down for the anticipated post-win revelry from 8th through 20th streets and from Race to Lombardy streets. Inside the designated traffic box flowed a sea of green-clad celebrants, many chanting, "Fly, Eagles, fly."

While most people were apparently to remain grounded, some sought out a better view. Over a dozen fans mounted a SEPTA bus stop near South Broad Street, close to city hall. These Birds fans did not last long in their newfound glass roost.

The moment the structure gave under the weight of the fans was caught on tape, along with reactions from onlookers.

A woman can be heard crying out, "Oh my God," while a male bystander says, "I told you."

— Barstool Philly (@Barstool Philly) 1675036920

The Daily Mail indicated that there were "multiple injuries" resulting from the bus stop breakthrough.

Following the Eagles' Super Bowl victory in 2018, a similar incident occurred when a rabble brought down the awning outside the Ritz Carlton hotel in the city's downtown.

After the collapse of the awning, which also resulted in injuries, a number of Eagles fans ran off with the debris, reported Global News.

Police greased the poles all over downtown Philadelphia in advance of Sunday night's celebrations.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw told CBS3 that "the greased poles are not an invitation for some personal challenge or reality TV competition."

Notwithstanding the commissioner's clarification, some Eagles fans took it upon themselves to scale poles across the city:

As fans began to spill out of the traffic box and reportedly became "intense," police in riot gear intervened and began dispersing the crowds.

Commissioner Outlaw said of the win and general atmosphere in the city, "There's nothing like a sporting event to bring everyone from all walks of life together for one common goal. ... We've been through a lot in the last few years and I think this is really, really great to be able to come together."

The Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Arizona.

Third-biggest egg farm in US catches fire, 21 fire departments respond to huge blaze that likely killed thousands of chickens

A massive fire engulfed a large egg farm on Saturday. The huge blaze likely killed thousands of chickens, and is expected to exacerbate the current dilemma of skyrocketing egg prices.

Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, a three-alarm fire was reported at the Hillandale Farms property in Bozrah, Connecticut.

WSFB reported that a total of 21 fire departments responded to the three-alarm fire, and it took firefighters eight hours to put out the blaze.

Norwich Firefighters Local 892 said a two-story, 400-foot by 100-foot chicken coop was on fire.

The fire was so large that it could be seen from miles away.

John Way, a safety officer for the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Co., said the coop housed an unknown number of chickens.

Multiple local reports cited the Salvation Army that around 100,000 chickens were killed, but that number has not been confirmed.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the massive fire at the egg farm was not immediately clear. Authorities are still investigating the blaze.

Hillandale Farms said it raises over 20 million chickens for eggs and is one of the top five egg producers in the country. Hendrix Genetics lists Hillandale Farms as the third-biggest egg producer in the U.S. with 20 million hens.

There have been several major fires at egg farms in the past few years.

In December 2022, a fire caused $12 million in damages and killed a reported 250,000 chickens at a large poultry farm in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, according to WGAL.

In October 2022, approximately 7,000 chickens were incinerated in a farm fire in Lexington, South Carolina.

In February 2020, a blaze at the Michael Foods farm killed approximately 400,000 chickens.

In December 2020, around 240,000 chickens died when a fire burned three barns in Pasco County, Florida. The fire happened at a Cal-Maine-operated egg farm, which is "one the largest producer and distributor of shell eggs in the United States. It sells under brands including Egg-Land's Best and Land O' Lakes," according to CBS News.

The Animal Welfare Institute reported that nearly 1.3 million cage-free hens "perished in potentially preventable barn fires" in 2020.

In December, egg prices skyrocketed 60% more than a year prior, according to Consumer Price Index data.

In California, the average retail price of eggs went from $2.35 a year ago to $7.37 this year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The worst outbreak of avian flu on record has caused egg and poultry prices to surge. More than 58 million birds from commercial and backyard flocks have been affected by avian influenza in the past year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

CBS News quits posting on Twitter because of 'uncertainty' of Elon Musk's leadership, but continues to use Chinese surveillance app TikTok

CBS News has declared that it will cease posting on Twitter because of "uncertainty" under the new leadership of Elon Musk. However, CBS News continues to operate an account on TikTok – which the U.S. government has warned is a Chinese surveillance tool.

"CBS Evening News" ran a piece on Friday night titled: "Twitter Turmoil." The segment began with anchor Major Garrett saying – without evidence – that Musk is "scrambling, quite simply, to prevent the social media platform from collapsing."

CBS News national correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti claimed that Musk offered "little reassurance he has a permanent plan" for the future of Twitter because the Tesla CEO asked users of the social media platform what Twitter should do next. On multiple occasions since acquiring Twitter, Musk has asked Twitter users how the social media platform could be better going forward.

Vigliotti interviewed one former Twitter employee who worked at the company until Musk acquired the company. Coincidentally, the former disgruntled employee is a plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit against Twitter. The former employee claimed that Twitter under Musk was "definitely a culture of fear and uncertainty, of anxiety."

Justine De Caires worked at Twitter while Musk was the CEO for only a few days. Musk completed the acquisition of Twitter on Oct. 27, then quickly laid-off employees. Justine De Caires was one of five former Twitter employees who were immediately fired and swiftly filed a lawsuit on Nov. 4. The lawsuit filed in San Francisco federal court claims that Twitter violated the federal and California laws of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). The law requires employers to provide at least 60 days' notice before "plant closings" or "mass layoffs."

Vigliotti then announced that CBS News would quit posting on Twitter because of "uncertainty" on the social media platform.

"In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of an abundance of caution, CBS News is pausing its activity on the social media site as it continues to monitor the platform," Vigliotti said.

— R A W S A L E R T S (@R A W S A L E R T S) 1668833209

At 9:40 p.m. on Friday, the CBS-owned news station KPIX in San Francisco shared a near-identical message on Twitter.

"In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of an abundance of caution, CBS News Bay Area is pausing its activity on the social media site as we continue to monitor the platform," the news network tweeted.

— KPIX 5 (@KPIX 5) 1668825628

At the time of publication, the official CBS News Twitter account with nearly 9 million followers has not posted on Musk's social media platform since Friday. The same goes for the CBS Twitter account with over 1 million followers, "CBS Mornings" Twitter account with nearly 500,000 followers, the "CBS Evening News" account with nearly 400,000 followers, and "CBS Sunday Morning" with over 260,000 followers.

CBS affiliates in Chicago, Colorado, Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York have not posted in nearly 24 hours.

The official CBS News Radio Twitter account continues to tweet.

However, CBS News continues to maintain an account on TikTok – which has often been described as possible Chinese spyware.

In October, Forbes reported that TikTok was planning to utilize location data collected on the app to track and monitor some American citizens.

A report by Forbes released in August found that "three hundred current employees at TikTok and its parent company ByteDance previously worked for Chinese state media publications." The report said that 15 employees worked simultaneously at ByteDance and Chinese state media.

In June, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr urged Apple and Google to remove the TikTok app from their online stores. Carr stated, "At its core, TikTok functions as a sophisticated surveillance tool that harvests extensive amounts of personal and sensitive data."

In June 2021, TikTok updated its privacy policy in the United States to give the app permission to collect biometric data of U.S. users, which includes faceprints and voiceprints.

In July 2020, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that TikTok puts "your private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party."

In December 2019, the Defense Department said TikTok has "potential security risks associated with its use."

The Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Army, and Navy previously prohibited TikTok from being used on government-issued phones.

CBS News has done extensive coverage of the potential security dangers of TikTok.

In November 2020, CBS News interviewed Klon Kitchen – who previously worked on cyber strategy at the National Counterterrorism Center, as a senior program assessment officer at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in the Office of the Director of Central Intelligence, and as the lead analyst on al Qaeda senior leadership at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Klon told CBS News, "What makes TikTok particularly concerning is its relationship with the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing, the government of China. The Chinese have fused their government and their industry together so that they cooperate to achieve the ends of the state."

Klon informed the outlet that TikTok uses phones to collect "your name, your home address, your personal network, who you're friends with, your online viewing habits," and keystroke data.

CBS News published another piece titled: "How TikTok could be used for disinformation and espionage."

In 2019, CBS News ran an article with the headline: "Senators say TikTok should be investigated by U.S. intelligence for potential 'national security risks.'"
