Reporter asks Boston Celtics coach race-baiting question, Joe Mazzulla shuts him down with one sentence about Christianity

A sports reporter asked a loaded, race-baiting question to Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazulla during a Saturday press conference ahead of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. However, Mazzulla didn't take the bait and shut down the reporter with one sentence about Christianity.

Mazzulla is squaring off Dallas Mavericks' head coach Jason Kidd – both of whom are biracial with white mothers and black fathers.

Vincent Goodwin, a senior reporter for Yahoo Sports, asked, "For the first time since 1975 this is the NBA Finals where you have two black coaches. Given the plight, sometimes, of black head coaches in the NBA, do you think this is a significant moment, do you take pride in this, how do you view this, or do you not see this at all?"

Mazzulla immediately fired back, "I wonder how many of those have been Christian coaches?"

The one-sentence response completely shut down Goodwin and the room went completely silent until another reporter was tapped to ask the next question for the Celtics' coach.

You can watch the exchange here.

After the video clip went viral on social media, Goodwin doubled down and wrote a 1,600-word rebuttal to being shut down by Mazzulla.

In the article titled "Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla's unwillingness to discuss race a complicated issue," Goodwin argued: "Race is one of the defining issues in this country, and it's not easy to talk about, but when one avoids it, it adds fuel to an already complicated fire."

The reporter described Mazzulla's answer to his race-baiting question about a basketball game to be "awkward" and "just an abrupt stop."

He compared Mazzulla's response to that of Orlando Magic star Jonathan Isaac, who Goodwill accused him of using "religion as a shield against the discussion of police brutality on black folks."

Goodwill admitted that NBA players are "overwhelmingly black."

Goodwill attempted to defend his racial question by bringing up discrimination that Celtics legend Bill Russell experienced in Boston some 60 years ago.

The reporter claimed, "Colorblindness is impossible."

Goodwill concluded his article with a hypothetical scenario of Mazzulla being pulled over by police.

"But if he’s pulled over in Boston, the police will see his last name on his license, but before they find out anything else about him, they’ll see a black man first," he wrote.

"My faith is just as important as my race, if not more important."

Mazzulla discussed his faith and race in a 2022 interview with Andscape – a self-described "black-led media platform dedicated to creating, highlighting, and uplifting the diverse stories of black identity."

Mazzulla was asked about his thoughts about there being a record 16 black NBA coaches from the perspective of him being half black and half Italian, and he responded:

It’s one part and it’s not the whole me. So, my identity and who I am as a person is important and knowing who I am is important. And I think being a part of that is important for society. It’s important for the league. It’s important for the players. It’s important for people to understand that it doesn’t matter what you look like or where you come from, you can get to where you want to go. That fundamental principle is extremely important. And so, being a part of that is huge. But I don’t want to be just defined by that. That’s also important to me.

My faith is just as important as my race, if not more important. But I understand that in order to reach different people, you have to be your whole self and you can’t put yourself in a box. And so, I want to be able to reach Black people, Christians, non-Christian. Whoever it is, I want to be able to be an opportunity for that person.

According to the National Catholic Reporter, Mazzulla is a devout Catholic and Kidd is the son of an Irish Catholic, and both are graduates of Catholic school.

Mazzulla has spoken about his faith multiple times with the press, including two iconic moments.

In a postgame press conference in December 2022, a reporter asked about meeting the "royal family" of Prince William and Kate Middleton – who attended a Celtics game.

Mazzulla acutely replied, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph? I'm only familiar with one royal family."

During the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, Mazzulla was questioned about the pressures of coaching in the high-stress playoffs.

He explained that he balanced his life by visiting three females under the age of 21 dealing with terminal cancer.

"And I thought I was helping them by talking to them and they were helping me. So having an understanding about what life is really all about and watching a girl die and smiling and enjoying her life, that's what it's really all about and having that faith," Mazzulla said. "The other thing is you always hear people give glory to God and say thank you when they're holding a trophy. But you never really hear it in times like this. So for me, it's an opportunity to just sit right where I'm at and just be faithful. That's what it's about."

Harvard professor needed ‘police protection’ after publishing study condemned by Claudine Gay

Although Claudine Gay has since stepped down as the president of Harvard University, she once wielded her powers to further the woke agenda.

Many are aware of Gay’s refusal to address anti-Semitism on campus and the alleged plagiarism in her academic work, but fewer are familiar with how she attempted to destroy the career of Dr. Roland G. Fryer, a professor of economics at Harvard.

What was Dr. Fryer’s crime? Publishing research that found no racial disparities behind the killings of unarmed black men in Houston, Texas.

Pat Gray plays a clip of an interview of Dr. Fryer explaining his research:

“Yes, we saw some bias in the low-level uses of force — everyday pushing up against cars and things like that — people seemed to like that result. But we didn't find any racial bias in police shootings,” Dr. Fryer explained, adding that this research took place over a year’s time and involved the help of eight others.

However, because the result wasn’t what he expected, he restarted the research with eight new RAs.

“They came up with the same exact answer,” he said, but when he published his findings, “all hell broke loose.”

“It was a 104-page, dense academic economics paper with a 150-page appendix, okay? It was posted for four minutes when I got my first email [saying], ‘This is full of s***’ ... and I wrote back, ‘How'd you read it that fast?!’"

“I had colleagues take me to the side and say, ‘Don't publish this; you'll ruin your career,”’ Dr. Fryer continued. “I said to them, ‘If the second part showed bias, do you think I should publish it then?’ and they said, ‘Yeah, then it would make sense.”’

Thankfully, Dr. Fryer wasn’t swayed by his colleagues and responded with, “I guarantee you, I’ll publish it.”

His boldness didn’t come without consequence though.

“I lived under police protection for about 30 or 40 days,” he said. “I was going to the grocery store to get diapers with an armed guard. It was crazy.”

“People don’t like the truth,” says Pat.

“All he did was present facts, but that'll get you in trouble,” agrees Keith Malinak.

Radical Colorado Democrat says white-owned businesses should pay reparations for 'stolen land'

A Denver Democrat is pushing for a race-based tax, citing the need redistribute wealth from white-owned businesses to "black and brown-owned businesses."

Candi CdeBaca is a democratic socialist running for re-election to the Denver City Council. She previously made waves for championing a proposal to intentionally infect Republicans with COVID-19 and for seeking the collectivization and redistribution of land, labor, and resources "by any means necessary."

While CdeBaca does not appear to have redistributed her own wealth and property during her four years making a six-figure salary with the city, the democratic socialist has, however, found a way to redistribute the wealth of those she perceives as inheritors of historic guilt.

The Denver Democrat proposed a race-based tax at a forum before the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance on Thursday, reported KUSA-TV.

"Capitalism was built on stolen land, stolen labors, and stolen resources," she said.

CdeBaca suggested that a one-time reparations check would be insufficient to pay down the debt alleged to be owed by bygone aggressors to bygone victims. Instead, she indicated that reparations should be meted out in an "ongoing fashion."

After first admitting that taxation constitutes theft, CdeBaca proposed that a business improvement district could be used to impose a tax on Denver businesses on the basis of their owners' skin pigmentation and ethnicity.

A BID is a pseudo-governmental agency that business owners in a specific area can create via a vote, which could then impose taxes based on assessment to achieve various ends.

"Instead of a BID collecting extra taxation from the black and brown businesses that are struggling, you could be collecting those extra taxes from white-led businesses all over the city and redistributing them to black and brown owned businesses who are not part of it or who are simply just black- or brown-owned. And that's one way to give back in the business fashion, said CdeBaca.

The councilwoman did not specify whether mixed-race business-owners would be partially or fully taxed under the scheme.

According to CdeBaca, these race-based penalties are not unconstitutional because BID taxes are "voluntary."

A spokeswoman for the city's Department of Finance said that was not true.

"Non-residentially assessed property owners within the BID are required to pay the additional taxes/fees," spokeswoman Courtney Meihls told KUSA. "It's not voluntary."

CdeBaca's racist proposal was roundly ridiculed after the Libs of TikTok Twitter account shared the corresponding video.

Cultural critic and mathematician James Lindsay called it "blatant communism."

One commentator accused CdeBaca of the bigotry of low expectations, writing, "Does she not realize she's saying black and brown people can not succeed without white people."

Conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong indicated, "You get what you vote for."

"This is evil. This is wrong. This is racist," tweeted Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

FoxBusiness reported that following the backlash to CdeBaca's Thursday remarks, her office issued a statement claiming, "This is the third time CdeBaca has been targeted by a white nationalist mob, and this is part of a concerted playbook to harass, intimidate, and silence progressives and in particular, marginalized communities."

CdeBaca will defend her title and six-figure salary in the general runoff election on June 6, where she faces fellow leftist challenger Darrell Watson, who similarly has advocated for various forms of reparations.

Morgan Freeman declares Black History Month and the term 'African-American' to be an 'insult' in rare interview

Legendary actor Morgan Freeman explained how Black History Month and the term "African-American" are insults to black people in a rare interview.

During an interview with The Times in London, Freeman expounded on his views about race.

"Two things I can say publicly that I do not like, Black History Month is an insult," Freeman declared. "You're going to relegate my history to a month?"

The "Shawshank Redemption" actor added that the term "African-American" is an "insult."

"I don’t subscribe to that title," he said. "Black people have had different titles all the way back to the n-word, and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses 'African-American.' What does it really mean?"

He said black people come from a variety of countries across the world and not just the continent of Africa. He reasoned that Irish-Americans and Italian-Americans are not called Euro-Americans.

Speaking of current society, "Generationally, though, I do think we’re moving ahead in leaps and bounds."

"The change is that all people are involved now," Freeman stated. "Everyone. LGBTQ, Asians, black, white, interracial marriages, interracial relationships. All represented. You see them all on screen now and that is a huge jump."

Morgan made similar comments about Black History Month in a classic "60 Minutes" interview from 2005.

Host Mike Wallace asked Freeman about his thoughts on Black History Month.

Freeman quickly shot back, "Ridiculous."

The 85-year-old Hollywood actor questioned, "You`re going to relegate my history to a month?"

Freeman queried why there isn't a White History Month or a Jewish History Month, then asked Wallace if he wanted those as special months. Wallace replied, "No, no."

Freeman rebutted, "I don't either. I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history."

Wallace then said, " How are we going to get rid of racism until...?"

A frustrated Freeman fired back, "Stop talking about it."

"I'm going to stop calling you a white man. And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," he explained. "I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You're not going to say, 'I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.' Hear what I'm saying?"

Freeman has not been shy to discuss race, and is willing to give his honest opinion on the hot-button topic.

Freeman silenced CNN anchor Don Lemon regarding a question about race in 2014.

Lemon asked Freeman, "Do you think that race plays a part in wealth distribution today?"

Freeman fired back, "No, I don’t. You and I, we’re proof. Why

“Why would race have anything to do with it? Put your mind to what you want to do and go for that," Freeman advised. "It’s kind of like religion to me, it's a good excuse for not getting there."

Lemon claimed that he was "tired" of having to talk about race every day "because it’s in the news cycle."

Freeman replied, "If you talk about it, it exists."

He added, "But making it a bigger issue than it needs to be is the problem here."
