'Narcissistic monster' cardiologist gets 158 years in prison for drugging, raping 'dozens' of women he met on dating apps

A former Colorado cardiologist learned his fate after being convicted of drugging and raping "dozens or more" women he met on dating apps.

Judge Eric Johnson sentenced 37-year-old Stephen Matthews to 158 years in prison — the maximum sentence for his crimes. Matthews had been charged with 38 counts in connection with what prosecutors said were patterns of alleged sexual assaults. He was convicted on 35 charges, including eight sexual assault convictions in August. Matthews also was ordered to register as a sex offender.

'So much suffering, none of it deserved.'

Matthews’ victims and their families inside the courtroom applauded the longer-than-life prison sentence, according to the New York Post.

"Evidence in this case is overwhelming," Judge Eric Johnson said during sentencing. "Mr. Matthews, you know, you have diminished this world. You have dimmed many of its lights. You've hurt our society, and it's a darker place because of you."

The judge added, according to KMGH-TV, "It would be improper — it would depreciate what you have done, the heinousness of your crimes — if you did not serve a sentence for each victim individually."

Johnson continued, "And in here today, there is a room full of pain. And this is pain that you have caused your victims. So much suffering, none of it deserved."

The judge said Matthews "even managed to ruin dating applications" by causing young girls and young women to fear dating apps "as another danger zone."

Johnson told the victims, "You were believed. The verdict said that."

The district attorney filed charges in connection with 11 victims — nine of whom said they were sexually assaulted.

Between 2019 and 2023, prosecutor Victoria Kelley said she was certain there were “dozens or more” victims of Matthews' sexual assaults.

“This guy is one of the most prolific serial rapists in the history of the state of Colorado,” said former Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey.

One of the victims said, "We are now a powerful army of survivors — and you are nothing." She described Matthews as a “narcissistic monster” and a “serial rapist.”

Matthews was first arrested in March 2023 after a woman filed a report with the Denver Police Department saying that during a date he drugged and sexually assaulted her. Matthews was arrested again in May 2023 after nine more women came forward with similar allegations against the doctor.

Prosecutors said Matthews preyed on his victims and had a disturbing pattern to his sexual assaults.

After matching on dating apps such as Hinge and Tinder, Matthews would set up dates at public places such as parks, bars, and restaurants that were in a close proximity to the former doctor’s home.

'I knew that my ability to control my body was quickly disappearing, and if I did not leave within minutes, I didn't think I would ever be able to leave.'

Some victims said Matthews claimed he had to go back to his house nearby to walk his dog. Matthews allegedly would ask the women to play board games and then gave his victims alcohol. The women said they suffered large memory gaps after having the drinks.

One victim said she agreed to go to his house to let his dog out. Once inside, she used the bathroom, and he had mixed a drink for her that she never asked for.

"I didn't want to be rude and didn't want to offend him so I took the drink," she said.

After drinking about a quarter of the drink, the woman quickly began to feel physically ill, her speech was slurred, and she began losing her memory and her motor skills.

"I remember at one point falling all the way to the ground and looking up at him as he was about to film me," the victim said.

She said the Matthews put his arm around her neck and shoulders and put her in a headlock, then pulled her head back to forcibly kiss her, which she said was "painful."

"I felt like I had to get out," she said. "I knew that my ability to control my body was quickly disappearing and if I did not leave within minutes, I didn't think I would ever be able to leave."

She ran from the cardiologist's home without her coat, purse, and shoes.

The victim got into an Uber vehicle and vomited "uncontrollably" while in the car. Several other women said they also vomited after Matthews drugged them.

Another victim was drugged and then handcuffed to a sofa inside the former doctor's house.

“She talked with [a detective] about the horrific things she remembers,” prosecutor Bree Beasley told the jury. “She remembers brief periods of time where she wakes up handcuffed, and she’s naked on the defendant’s sofa and wakes up vomiting.”

Another victim said within an hour and 27 minutes, Matthews drugged her, filmed her as he assaulted her, and put her into a rideshare car that took her home. She had suffered a head injury, and her underwear was ripped.

“You drugged me and raped me and manipulated me into thinking it was my fault,” one of the victims said.

One of the victims added during Matthews' sentencing, "This was methodical. This wasn’t about consent. This wasn’t about sex. It was about control. He used his position and the title of former doctor to abuse trust with myself and others."

Matthews did not speak at his sentencing hearing. His attorney, Douglas Cohen, said that was because his client plans to appeal his conviction.

Are liberal cities actually REVERSING course on crime policies?!

For some inexplicable reason, liberal cities thought decriminalizing petty crime, defunding the police, and softening up the justice system would somehow lead to improvements.

Well, it didn’t. While they might be surprised that their woke policies failed miserably, Sara Gonzales is certainly not shocked.

On Tuesday this week, frustrated San Francisco voters “overwhelmingly voted in support of several ballot measures aimed to quell the spike in crime and drugs,” reports Sara.

“They voted for Measure E — to expand police powers by making it easier for officers to pursue suspects and provide the police force with new cameras and drones, and Measure F, which will require drug screenings for adults receiving welfare.”

Both Measure E and Measure F passed with a “60%” approval rate.

“What a crazy, crazy shift,” says Blaze head researcher and writer Jason Buttrill. “It was just a couple of years ago when they were ushering in Chesa Boudin as the radical DA,” who’s “basically a Marxist.”

San Francisco isn’t alone in its backtracking either.

“Oregon also is re-criminalizing drugs,” says Jason, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is “now putting the National Guard in the subway.”

While these reversals in crime-related policies are certainly encouraging, Sara can’t help but wonder if it’s “too late to put the genie back in the bottle,” especially considering Biden’s open border policies.

Millions of illegal immigrants have been ushered into this country, and yet many liberal politicians continue to say that “there is not a rise in immigrant crime.”

“Ask the family of Laken Riley if there’s a rise in immigrant crime,” says Jason.

ICE captures violent illegal alien accused of raping a Virginia minor and producing child pornography

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Monday that it captured a 21-year-old illegal alien from Honduras charged with raping a Virginia minor and producing child pornography. While U.S. Border Patrol initially caught him in January 2020, he was released into a children's facility in New York, then later set loose on Virginia. It appears that in the meantime, at least one life was destroyed.

Deportation officers from the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C., team caught up with the criminal noncitizen on Dec. 4 in Springfield, Virginia. During the arrest, the alleged pedophile viciously attacked a deportation officer.

Despite having an accused pedophile prowling its streets for months, Deputy Field Office Director Erik Weiss indicated that "Fairfax County refused to honor the ICE detainer lodged against this Honduran noncitizen."

Fairfax County boasts on its website that it "does not and will not enforce civil federal immigration laws." The county also provides guidance to foreign nationals hoping to continue flouting the laws of the land, including tips on what to do if "immigration or the police come to your door."

"When ICE detainers are ignored by local authorities, the public is put at risk; unfortunately, this time the result was the unnecessary injury of a federal law enforcement officer while prosecuting the arrest of a noncitizen charged with sexually abusing a Virginia minor and producing child sexual abuse material," Weiss added.

ICE noted that the alleged child rapist had stolen into the country on an unknown date "without being inspected, admitted or paroled by an immigration official." While he was off the radar like millions of other gotaways, USBP managed to nab him in January 2020 near Clint, Texas.

Although a military-age foreign national, the alleged rapist was treated by border officials as an unaccompanied juvenile. He was provided with a notice to appear before a Biden Department of Justice immigration judge and charged with being in the U.S. without admission or parole.

After receiving his notice and charges, the alleged child rapist was set loose in Kingston, New York, under the supposed custody of the Office of Refugee and Resettlement — at the Children's Home of Kingston. One month later, USBP released him into the custody of his supposed father in Alexandria, Virginia.

In July 2023, the alleged child rapist was arrested and charged with carnal knowledge of a child between the ages of 13 an 14 without force, possession of child porn, and producing child sexual abuse material.

ICE noted that its Pacific Enforcement Response Center lodged an immigration detainer against the alleged pedophile with the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on the day of his arrest. However, the detention center "did not honor the immigration detainer and released the Honduran noncitizen from custody without notifying ERO Washington, D.C."

Without the help of Fairfax County, ERO Washington's Mobile Criminal Apprehensions Team raided the alleged child rapist's residence on Jan. 4, according to ICE.

During the arrest, the illegal alien reportedly punched an officer. Extra to the child rape and child pornography charges, it appears the illegal alien will also be prosecuted for the assault.

This suspect's story is eerily similar to that of another Honduran rapist who recently got picked up by ICE.

In October, ICE revealed it had arrested a Honduran in Herndon, Virginia, who had been charged with felony rape by force, threat, or intimidation; abduction by force; and assault on a family member. USBP initially arrested him near Roma, Texas, in June 2021, and issued him a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

The antagonist in this second case was arrested by the Herndon Police Department in Virginia on July 20, 2023, and charged for rape and other crimes. Again, ERO Washington, D.C., issued an immigration detainer, and again the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center cut the foreign rape suspect loose.

Finally, on Oct. 12, ERO officers caught up with him, then kept him under lock and key.

On Oct. 30, ICE was able to send another alleged rapist from Honduras back to his home country before he could reoffend on American soil. Wilian Emilson Castro Bustillo, 34, illegally entered the country near Eagle Pass, Texas, on June 11.

ERO San Antonio took custody of him days later and learned he was wanted for aggravated sexual assault. An immigration judge ordered his removal from the U.S. on Sept. 1.

Blaze News previously reported that only a small percentage of illegal aliens were deported last year — roughly 4.4% of the over 2 million migrants encountered at the border. Of the deportees, 49% had criminal histories with an average of 3.8 convictions per criminal. 3,809 of the criminal convictions catalogued were for rape; 1,457 were for homicide; 1,450 were for kidnappings; 26,714 were for assault; and 2,760 were for robbery.

Police: Director of Georgia youth shelter tried to cover up for her son after he allegedly raped at least one child at the facility

Rainbow House in Jonesboro, Georgia, purportedly "provides services to shelter, champion, and heal abused, neglected, exploited, and abandoned children." It vowed to "create an environment to protect all children from sexual abuse through education, raising awareness and prevention."

It appears its staff were functioning at cross-purposes.

Three people who worked at the youth shelter, including its executive director, have been arrested in connection with the rape of a child and subsequent alleged efforts to conceal the crime.

Clayton County Police arrested 25-year-old Caleb Randolph in the early morning hours of March 16 and charged him with child molestation, statutory rape, sexual assault of a person over whom he had supervisory authority, and sexual assault by an employee/agent/volunteer.

Two days later, they arrested his mother, 55-year-old Rainbow House executive director Mia Chanel Kimber, and his coworker, Monica Shanora Jones, the program director of the facility's Child Advocacy Center. Both women were charged as parties to Randolph's crimes as well as for failure to report the alleged crime.

The CCPD indicated in a statement Tuesday that its human trafficking unit commander launched an investigation after receiving an anonymous tip in reference to sexual misconduct at Rainbow House. Investigators determined that Randolph had sexually abused at least one child who had been placed at the facility.

Police told WSB-TV, "Based on the investigation, we’re not going to speculate on how many victims we might have."

According to police, Kimber "had direct knowledge of the misconduct and failed to report the misconduct to law enforcement officials."

Kimber previously told WABE she had to wear "many hats" around the shelter.

"Our children here have come from very traumatic backgrounds. So giving them just anything is not acceptable," said Kimber. "It’s our goal to make it the best place to be for children."

Kimber was not alone in allegedly turning a blind eye to her son's alleged crimes against children, said police. The CCPD said Jones similarly failed to take corrective actions.

Kimber and Jones together allegedly engaged in a "cover-up scheme," whereby the victim was ejected from the facility "based on false allegations."

Unlike his alleged child victim — who was permanently removed — Randolph was fired, then rehired a week and a half later. According to police, despite allegedly raping and molesting a child, Randolph continued working at the facility until his arrest.

All three suspects are being held at Clayton County Jail. Police indicated that the investigation is ongoing and there may be additional arrests.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley, who was appointed to the board of Rainbow House Inc., has recused herself from the case. The case will instead by handled by state Attorney General Chris Carr.
According to Cause IQ, Rainbow House is funded in part by the United Way of Greater Atlanta, Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia, and the National Children's Alliance.
