Netflix co-founder donated $7 million to Kamala's campaign. Then came a tidal wave of cancellations.

In the summer, it was revealed that the co-founder of Netflix not only endorsed the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris but also deposited millions into the coffers of the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. The heavy-handed advocacy for Harris appears to have backfired as cancelations on the streaming behemoth soared directly after the political endorsement.

As Blaze News reported in early July, several high-profile Democratic donors demanded that President Joe Biden drop out of the 2024 presidential race following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Included among the Democratic donors who called on Biden to drop out was Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings.

Netflix is the latest major company to suffer a boycott at the hands of conservative consumers.

"Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous," Hastings said in July.

Once Harris was installed as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Hastings donated a whopping $7 million to Kamala's campaign. Hastings told The Information that it was the single-largest political donation that he had ever doled out.

Hastings, a longtime Democratic donor, has a net worth of $4.3 billion, according to Forbes.

Hastings said of Kamala's campaign, “After the depressing debate, we are in the game again.”

Hastings wrote on the X social media platform on July 23, "Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win."

As soon as the extremely generous donation and public endorsement was revealed, it ignited a backlash against Hastings and the streaming behemoth. Many conservatives called for a boycott of Netflix in response to Hastings supporting Harris.

The hashtag "CancelNetflix" began trending on social media. Many users shared screenshots of their canceled Netflix subscriptions online.

A new report revealed that Netflix suffered a major spike in cancelations after the streaming service's chairman endorsed Harris.

Antenna — a research website that has a mission to "expand knowledge of subscriber behavior" — reported that the rate of Netflix cancelations nearly tripled in the United States immediately following the Harris endorsement by Hastings. The tidal wave of cancelations reportedly lasted a few days.

Some subscribers were also upset because Netflix discontinued its basic plan for new users in the same month.

However, Bloomberg reported that "the five-day period after Hastings’ endorsement was unusual, even for July." July 26 — three days after Hastings' endorsement of Harris — was the single-worst day for Netflix cancelations this year.

The outlet noted that the surge of cancelations wasn't as severe as the 2020 boycott of Netflix over the movie "Cuties," which many conservatives believed sexually exploited children.

Netflix did not respond to a request for comment from Bloomberg.

Netflix is the latest major company to suffer a boycott at the hands of conservative consumers. Companies such as Bud Light, Target, Disney, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Tractor Supply, Jack Daniel's, and John Deere have seen conservatives boycott or threaten to boycott over liberal policies.

New Party Platform Showcases Democrats’ Delusions About Who Are The Bad Guys

The delusional Democratic Party absurdly claiming it will save democracy from Donald Trump doesn’t need a convention, it needs a mirror.

Abigail Disney and other Democratic donors call for a new presidential candidate

In the wake of his widely-panned debate performance, President Joe Biden, the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, has come under siege as some on the political left call for him to abandon his re-election bid.

"Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous," Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings asserted, according to the New York Times.

'I propose a DEMbargo.'

The outlet also reported that Abigail Disney indicated that the president's campaign and committees backing it, including the Democratic National Committee, super PACs and nonprofit organizations, "will not receive another dime from me until they bite the bullet and replace Biden at the top of the ticket."

"Biden is a good man who has served his country well, but the stakes are far too high to allow timidity to determine our course of action," she opined, according to the outlet.

Damon Lindelof has urged people to stop funding Democratic candidates until Biden is no longer the party's 2024 presidential pick.

"I believe in Joe Biden. I believe in him so much that we wrote him a sizeable check as recently as two weeks ago. We had to considering his opponent," Lindelof wrote in a piece on Deadline.

"I propose a DEMbargo. No checks written. No ActBlue links clicked. For anyone," he wrote. "When they text you asking for cash, text back that you're not giving them a penny and you won't change your mind until there's change at the top of the ticket. And when Joe finally leaves the mound, I will stand and applaud. Because he truly pitched a great game. But I'm ready to hear the walkout song for our closer. And once I do, I'm going to double the size of the checks… I'm going to write so many damn checks my hand will cramp."

Texas grand jury indicts Netflix on criminal charge of 'lewd visual material' of a child in 'Cuties' film. Netflix continues to stand up for the work.

A Texas grand jury has indicted streaming giant Netflix over "Cuties," which it says has a "prurient interest in sex," according to a Deadline report on Tuesday.

"Cuties," an award-winning French film that centers on four 11-year-old girls in a "sensual dance" troupe, is rated TV-MA in the U.S. — for mature audiences only.

Netflix, however, is standing behind the controversial production.

What are the details?

The Texas Rangers served Netflix with a summons on Oct. 1, according to Tyler County District Attorney Lucas Babin.

A portion of the indictment says that the film — as well as Netflix CEOs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos — "knowingly promote visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time the visual material was created, which appeals to the prurient interest in sex, and has no serious, literary, artistic, political, or scientific value."

A spokesperson for the company said, "Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film."

Netflix issued a similar statement to TheBlaze in September.

According to Deadline, the charge is a state jail felony.

The film attracted heavy criticism from viewers and leaders across the globe following its release.

Maïmouna Doucouré, who directed the French film, said in September that she received death threats following the film's release.

"I received numerous attacks on my character from people who had not seen the film, who thought I was actually making a film that was apologetic about hypersexualization of children," Doucouré told Deadline that month. "I also received numerous death threats."

On Tuesday, Babin shared a statement on the film, in which he said he "knew there was probable cause to believe it was criminal."

"The legislators of this state believe promoting certain lewd material of children has destructive consequences," Babin wrote in the now-viral Facebook post. "If such material is distributed on a grand scale, isn't the need to prosecute more, not less?"

Babin added, "A grand jury found probable cause for this felony, and my job is to uphold the laws of this State and see that justice is done."

What else?

In August, Netflix debuted a film poster and trailer for the film.

Following the criticism of the poster art, Netflix said, "We're deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We've now updated the pictures and description."

After its September premiere, social media users banded together and prompted hashtag #CancelNetflix to trend on social media, as well as a related more than Change.org petition that received more than 659,000 signatures in protest of the film.

CNN Ignores 'Cuties' Controversy in Interview with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings

Netflix is facing one of the biggest controversies in its history over the tween-twerking drama Cuties. But you wouldn't necessarily know that from watching CNN, which interviewed Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings on Thursday and failed to ask any questions about the movie that depicts underage girls in a highly sexual way.
