13 House Democrats vote for resolution that condemns 'the Biden administration's open-borders policies'

In a 223-191 vote, the House of Representatives passed a resolution that decries "the Biden administration's open-borders policies" and presses for the administration to rescind them and "implement policies that end his administration's border crisis."

Thirteen Democrats and 210 Republicans voted in favor of passing the resolution while 191 Democrats opposed it.

The resolution includes language asserting that "President Joe Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas have created the worst border security crisis in the Nation’s history" and that "President Biden, beginning on day one of his administration, systematically dismantled effective border security measures and interior immigration enforcement."

Earlier this year, when the House voted 214-213 in favor of impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, no Democrats voted for impeachment. Then later, Democratic and independent senators ultimately put the kibosh on the impeachment effort.

The text of the resolution also includes language stating that the House "affirms the Biden administration has taken executive actions that created the current border crisis" and "condemns the public safety crisis caused by the Biden administration’s open-borders policies."

The 13 Democrats who voted in favor of passage include:

  • Reps. Nikki Budzinski of Illinois
  • Yadira Caraveo of Colorado
  • Angie Craig of Minnesota
  • Henry Cuellar of Texas
  • Sharice Davids of Kansas
  • Donald Davis of North Carolina
  • Jared Golden of Maine
  • Josh Harder of California
  • Steven Horsford of Nevada
  • Susie Lee of Nevada
  • Mary Sattler Peltola of Alaska
  • Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington
  • Eric Sorensen of Illinois

14 House Democrats back resolution blaming Biden admin for border crisis, demanding action to address it

More than a dozen House Democrats voted in favor of a resolution that accuses President Joe Biden's administration of creating a border crisis and also urges the administration to act to address the problem.

The resolution passed in a 226-193 vote, with 212 Republicans and 14 Democrats backing it and 193 Democrats voting against it.

The resolution declares that the House "affirms that, in order to help control the crisis at the border that it has created, the Biden Administration has the authority to" do the following: "end the catch-and-release policy," "reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols," "enter into asylum cooperative agreements," "end abuses of parole authority," "detain inadmissible aliens," "use expedited removal authority," as well as "rein in taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens."

The resolution declares that the House "affirms that the Biden Administration is refusing to use such authorities," and that the chamber "urges the Biden Administration to immediately begin using such authorities."

The 14 Democrats who voted for the resolution include Reps. Eric Sorensen of Illinois, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington, Mary Sattler Peltola of Alaska, Frank Mrvan of Indiana, Jared Moskowitz of Florida, Susie Lee of Nevada, Greg Landsman of Ohio, Steven Horsford of Nevada, Jared Golden of Maine, Donald Davis of North Carolina, Sharice Davids of Kansas, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Angie Craig of Minnesota, and Yadira Caraveo of Colorado.

The border crisis could prove to be problematic for Biden as he seeks re-election this year.

Tlaib votes present as House passes resolution condemning Hamas rapes

In a bipartisan, 418-0 vote, the House of Representatives passed a resolution on Wednesday decrying the rapes perpetrated by Hamas terrorists in the October 7 attacks against Israel. But Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan voted present.

The text of the resolution declares, in part, that the House "condemns all rape and forms of sexual violence as weapons of war, including those acts committed by Hamas terrorists on and since October 7th." Another portion of the resolution states that the chamber "calls on all international bodies to unequivocally condemn the barbaric murder, rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping by Hamas and other terrorists on and since October 7th, and hold accountable all perpetrators."

Tlaib said that although the resolution "rightfully denounces any sexual violence by Hamas, I am disturbed that it completely ignores and erases any sexual violence and abuse committed by the Israeli forces against Palestinians, especially children."

"There are numerous well-documented reports of sexual violence, including rape, committed by Israeli forces against Palestinians in their custody," she said.

Last year, the House voted 234-188 to censure Tlaib. Several lawmakers voted present.

She has claimed that "from the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate."

Tlaib has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "Genocidal maniac," "murderer," and "war criminal."

The congresswoman is the "daughter of Palestinian immigrant parents," according to tlaib.house.gov.

14 Democrats back resolution blasting 'the Biden administration's open-borders policies'

More than a dozen House Democrats joined Republicans in voting for a resolution that decries "the Biden administration's open-borders policies."

The resolution "condemns the national security and public safety crisis that President Joe Biden, 'Border Czar' Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and other Biden administration officials have created along the southwest border."

It passed in a 225-187 vote. While 211 Republicans voted for the resolution, 14 Democrats also backed it. Those Democrats include:

  • Rep. Colin Allred of Texas
  • Rep. Yadira Caraveo of Colorado
  • Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota
  • Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas
  • Rep. Donald Davis of North Carolina
  • Rep. Jared Golden of Maine
  • Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas
  • Rep. Greg Landsman of Ohio
  • Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada
  • Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida
  • Rep. Wiley Nickel of North Carolina
  • Rep. Mary Peltola of Alaska
  • Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington
  • Eric Sorensen of Illinois

"Most of us understand that nations need borders, those borders should be secured, and we should enforce the immigration laws on the books. Most of us also understand that those seeking entry to our country deserve an orderly and predictable immigration process. Right now we have problems on both fronts," Golden said in a statement. "Illegal immigration threatens our national security and undermines American jobs. It's time for Congress and the Biden administration to come together and pass legislation to meaningfully address issues at the border. It should be a top priority in Washington, just like it is in most of America," Golden noted.

"It's unfortunate that the far-right and the far-left continue to make this a political issue rather than coming to the table to find consensus and common ground," Nickel said in a statement, according to The Hill. "I remain focused on working in a bipartisan way to secure the border and pass comprehensive immigration reform through Congress. I'll work with anyone to help save lives, improve security at the southern border, and make our communities safer."

Republicans push resolutions to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib

After a resolution to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan fell flat in the House last week when Democrats and some Republicans voted to table it, the left-wing congresswoman is still being targeted for censure.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, whose resolution to censure Tlaib was tabled last week, put forward a tweaked version on Monday. While Greene's previous resolution accused Tlaib of having "led an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex," the new resolution accuses Tlaib of having "incited an illegal occupation."

Greene's new resolution also points out Tlaib's controversial tweet last week that described the expression "from the river to the sea" as "an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence."

GOP Rep. Rich McCormick of Georgia, who was one of the Republicans who voted to table Greene's resolution last week, also put forward a resolution to censure Tlaib on Monday.

"The resolution previously brought to the floor accused Tlaib of leading an insurrection, which is not true," the congressman told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

"I've put forward a serious resolution to censure @RashidaTlaib that condemns her racist and hate filled rhetoric," McCormick tweeted. "Antisemitism has no place in the People's House and any Representative that advocates for the destruction of the Jewish State must be held accountable."

— (@)

Tlaib issued a statement on Monday in which she asserted that the resolutions are replete with lies.

"It's a shame my colleagues are more focused on silencing me than they are on saving lives, as the death toll in Gaza surpasses 10,000. Many of them have shown me that Palestinian lives simply do not matter to them, but I still do not police their rhetoric or actions," Tlaib said in the statement. "Rather than acknowledge the voice and perspective of the only Palestinian American in Congress, my colleagues have resorted to distorting my positions in resolutions filled with obvious lies. I have repeatedly denounced the horrific targeting and killing of civilians by Hamas and the Israeli government, and have mourned the Israeli and Palestinian lives lost."

One Republican and multiple Democrats vote against House resolution that declares support for Israel, decries terror attacks

In a 412-10 vote, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a resolution expressing support for Israel and condemning terror attacks perpetrated against the Jewish state. But one Republican and nine Democrats voted against the resolution, while six other Democrats voted present.

The resolution declared, among other things, that the chamber "reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense," "condemns Hamas' brutal war against Israel," and "stands ready to assist Israel with emergency resupply and other security, diplomatic, and intelligence support."

Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan were two of the Democrats who voted against the measure.

"I voted against this resolution because it is a deeply incomplete and biased account of what is happening in Israel and Palestine, and what has been happening for decades. This resolution rightly mourns the thousands of Israeli civilians killed and wounded in the horrific attacks but explicitly does not mourn the thousands of Palestinian civilians, including over 2,000 children, killed and wounded in the collective punishment of Palestine," Tlaib said in a statement.

"While the resolution rightly acknowledges and mourns the lives taken by Hamas, I cannot support a resolution that fails to acknowledge and mourn the lives of Palestinians taken by the Israeli military. The resolution also fails to acknowledge the Israeli government's military bombardment of Gaza, especially after Israeli officials openly admitted to implementing collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza," Omar said in a statement.

Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky was the one Republican lawmaker to vote against the resolution.

"I condemn the barbaric attack on Israel and I affirm Israel’s right to defend itself," Massie noted, before going on to explain why he rejected the resolution. "It calls for sanctions on a sovereign country," he noted. "It asserts the necessity of foreign aid commitments which I have voted against," he wrote. "It contains an open-ended promise of military support that is so broad that it could be interpreted to commit US soldiers to the conflict," the lawmaker asserted. "It tends to broaden the conflict to other countries when it would be better to keep the war contained geographically."

Republican lawmakers push for spending Gaza aid on Israel's Iron Dome instead

A group of Republican lawmakers is pushing a proposal to reallocate funding available for Gaza assistance to instead be spent aiding Israel with its Iron Dome air defense system that intercepts scads of rockets fired at the Jewish state.

The measure calls for the president to "transfer all unexpended balances of appropriations made available for assistance to Gaza" over to the Defense Department or Foreign Military Financing Program "to be available for grants to Israel for the Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system."

The measure has been put forward in the past as well.

"In the wake of Iran-backed Hamas’s savage attack on Israel ... and as Iran-backed Hamas terrorists continue to launch missiles and rockets into Israel, the American people have seen the images of Israel's Iron Dome missile defense systems repeatedly intercepting rockets and saving the lives of countless civilians," Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) said according to a press release.

"The Biden Administration insists on sending foreign assistance to Gaza, while Hamas steals it to fund weapons to kill Israelis and Americans," GOP Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said, according to the press release. "Congress must act to redirect these funds to Israel to help restock their critical missile defense systems."

The Senate on Thursday voted 97-0 in favor of approving a resolution, which, in part, expressed the chamber's support for the Jewish state's right to self-defense.

"We declared in one voice that Israel is our friend, Hamas’s attack is reprehensible, and we will stand with our friends as they defend themselves," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a post on X.

During a trip to Israel this week, President Joe Biden announced $100 million in humanitarian aid for Gaza and the West Bank, a move that has been decried by critics who contend that the aid will end up in the hands of terrorists.

'You all would fit in great with the anti-Semites at the United Nations': Nikki Haley slams AOC and other Dems who opposed pro-Israel resolution

Republican presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley tweeted out a list of the nine House Democrats who voted against a resolution to express America's support for Israel.

"We're taking names," Haley tweeted, listing the nine lawmakers' names. "These 9 members of Congress believe Israel is racist. We will remember this vote."

— (@)

The resolution, which earned tremendous bipartisan support with a whopping 412 House lawmakers voting for passage, declared that "the State of Israel is not a racist or apartheid state," that "Congress rejects all forms of antisemitism and xenophobia," and that "the United States will always be a staunch partner and supporter of Israel."

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, who was one of the legislators to vote against the resolution, responded to Haley's tweet.

"Oooh, a list!" the lawmaker wrote. "Remember to call it 'People in Congress who think apartheid is wrong' or alternatively, 'People in Congress who don't ignore human rights abuses against Palestinians.'"

"Why does Israel get under your skin?" Haley fired back. "Because it's democratic, pro-American, or Jewish? You don't get worked up about massive human rights violations in China, Iran, Cuba, & Venezuela. You all would fit in great with the anti-Semites at the United Nations,"

— (@)

The other eight House members who voted against the resolution were Reps. Jamaal Bowman of New York, Cori Bush of Missouri, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, André Carson of Indiana, Delia Ramirez of Illinois, and Summer Lee of Pennsylvania.

Haley served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during a portion of President Donald Trump's White House tenure. Prior to that, she served as governor of South Carolina.

Trump currently remains the clear frontrunner in the GOP primary contest with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a distant second place.

9 House Democrats vote against a resolution expressing America's support for Israel

Nine House Democrats voted against a resolution that expresses America's support for the nation of Israel.

The resolution declares that "the State of Israel is not a racist or apartheid state," that "Congress rejects all forms of antisemitism and xenophobia," and that "the United States will always be a staunch partner and supporter of Israel."

In a show of bipartisan support, a whopping 412 lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution.

Democratic lawmakers including Reps. Jamaal Bowman of New York, Cori Bush of Missouri, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and a few others voted against the resolution.

"Israel is an apartheid state," Tlaib declared during floor remarks on Tuesday.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog is scheduled to speak before a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress on Wednesday, but some lawmakers do not plan to attend.

"In solidarity with the Palestinian people and all those who have been harmed by Israel's apartheid government, I will be boycotting President Herzog’s joint address to Congress. I urge all Members of Congress who stand for human rights for all to join me. #BoycottApartheid," Tlaib tweeted on Monday.

Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington recently referred to Israel as a "racist state." She later issued a statement in which she sought to clarify her remarks. "I do not believe the idea of Israel as a nation is racist. I do, however, believe that [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu’s extreme right-wing government has engaged in discriminatory and outright racist policies and that there are extreme racists driving that policy within the leadership of the current government," the congresswoman said in the statement.

Jayapal voted with the bipartisan majority to pass the Israel-related resolution on Tuesday.
