In profane rant against racist agendas, former NBA player says Kyle Rittenhouse acted in self-defense — and that people are 'getting paid to push this racist s**t'

Former NBA star Kwame Brown has spoken out in defense of Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted of all charges of murder related to the August 2020 shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

He also hit out at unnamed people, saying an insidious movement trying to "push racist s**t" is afoot.

What are the details?

In reaction to the Rittenhouse verdict, Brown, 39, said, "That — to me, in my opinion — looked like self-defense. The courts found it as self-defense."

He added that a contingent of the country seems keen to politicize the case and make it about race rather than self-defense.

"The only bad thing is that he had to sit in jail for so long because they made something political that shouldn’t have been political," the former NBA player insisted. "If you’re going to give the boy the gun charge, give him the damn gun charge, or let the boy out."

Brown said that if anything, Rittenhouse could have been charged with a misdemeanor and sentenced to probation.

"He could have been home eating Fruit Loops or whatever the hell he eats," the former NBA player insisted. "Instead of that, we want to tie it in to something black. We want to tie it in to something bigger so we can have people come out and march and get checks off a little teenager’s back, and that, to me, is corny.

Brown added that not everything needs to have a political motivation and that the agenda of seeing racism in everything is garbage.

"Everything ain’t political, OK?" he continued. "A bunch of people are getting paid to push this racist s**t. That’s all it is.”

He added, "These motherf***ers ain't got no lane they're in — they really don't got nothing to say. The only thing they get paid off of is talking about how racist it is. Them motherf***ers got good cars, good houses, good everything telling you how bad it is. Motherf***er, it don't look bad. You're driving a Benz, you're goddamn flying all over the world, you have speaking engagements, you motherf***ers got black ties and security and s**t. How you motherf***ers so bad off?"

Brown even went so far as to name names.

"I saw goddamn Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson — I saw goddamn Roland Martin," he added. "Them motherf***ers got black ties, security. Them motherf***ers got a black SUV. Them motherf***ers riding in style. ... So how in the f*** is it so bad? Tell me how to get it like you got it. Tell me how to get some of them black Escalade securities that you son-of-a-bitches pulling up in while I'm pulling up with my brother."

Maria Shriver gets schooled by Ted Cruz for uninformed slant on Rittenhouse acquittal

Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted on all counts regarding the deadly shootings during the August 2020 riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Friday's not-guilty verdict unleashed a plethora of opinions on the case, including many celebrities proclaiming that Rittenhouse was only acquitted because of "white supremacy." Maria Shriver was completely befuddled that Rittenhouse was found to be innocent on all charges.

However, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) quickly brought Shriver up to speed on all of the reasons why Rittenhouse was completely exonerated of any wrongdoing.

Shriver — who was a Peabody and Emmy award-winning journalist for NBC News — wrote on Twitter, "I'm trying to take a beat to digest the Rittenhouse verdict. My son just asked me how it's possible that he didn't get charged for anything. How is that possible? I don't have an answer for him."

"The idea that someone could be out with a semi-automatic weapon, kill people, and walk is stunning," said the NBC News "special anchor." "I look forward to hearing from the jury. This is a moment for them to explain how they came to their decision."

— Maria Shriver (@Maria Shriver) 1637366637

Shriver, who has two sons with former husband Arnold Schwarzenegger, did not specify which of her sons she allegedly had a conversation about the Rittenhouse, but both of her sons are adults, ages 24 and 28.

Rittenhouse was charged with multiple felony counts, including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Rittenhouse was tried by a jury of his peers and cleared of all charges.

Online commentators were happy to explain the Rittenhouse trial and verdict to Shriver.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): "Pretty stunning that she's an @nbc anchor. She 'doesn't have an answer.' Try this: (1) He WAS charged with six counts. That thing that just finished was his trial. (2) A jury of his peers found him not guilty. (3) Why? The defense argued he was engaged in self-defense. (4) What facts support self defense? - the three people shot all chased him, assaulted him and/or tried to grab his gun - ALL THREE were convicted felons (on served 15 years for child molesting) - the defense argued Rittenhouse feared for his life (5) You might personally disagree, but the jury heard evidence & presumably concluded he was acting to defend himself from what he reasonably perceived to be an imminent threat to his life. (6) Also, ALL THREE of the people shot were White (contrary to false media reports). (7) Generally 'white supremacists' don't shoot White people. (8) Numerous Dem politicians & corporate media outlets (including your employer and especially @msnbc) recklessly alleged he was a white supremacist. (9) NO evidence was adduced at trial to support that claim. (10) A whole bunch of those corrupt media outlets are now retaining defamation lawyers, because they're ALL about to get sued—and the liability could well be massive. @mariashriver hope that helps!"

Author Jim Hanson: "It's simple Maria He didn't commit any crimes Get better sources for information It was very straightforward."

Radio host Jason Rantz: "Easy answer in this imaginary conversation: Kyle Rittenhouse didn't break the law; his attackers did. Self-defense is still legal, thankfully. And for Maria's sake: dumb tweets are also legal."

Actor Nick Searcy: "Tell him he was charged, a jury heard the evidence, and they all agreed that he was innocent."

"Slightly Offensive" host ElijahSchaffer: "You clearly didn't watch the trial. You work in media."

Then there were numerous social media commenters who asked why Shriver was not more curious about the deadly 1969 Chappaquiddick incident involving her uncle, former Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy.

BlazeTV host Chad Prather: "Now do Ted Kennedy."

Former Donald Trump advisor Boris Epshteyn: "Wait, aren't you a Kennedy?"

Former Trump communication director Tim Murtaugh: "Yes, Ted Kennedy's niece really tweeted this."

Author Tony Shaffer: "I'm trying to take a beat to comprehend how a full grown man could drive off a bridge, leave a woman not his wife in the car, tell no one and let her drown...how is that possible? Why don't we have an answer?"

Former MLB player Lenny Dykstra shared a photo of Kennedy's Oldsmobile Delta 88 car, where 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne was found dead inside.

DCCC badly botches statement about Rittenhouse verdict and gets swiftly ridiculed

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee tried and failed to show solidarity with those angry about the verdict in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse and were torched online for their incompetence.

Rittenhouse was on trial for the fatal shooting of two rioters during the violent Black Lives Matter protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in 2020. On Friday, a jury found him not guilty on all counts after nearly four days of deliberation.

While many on the left were angered and outraged by the verdict, some were also dumbfounded by the error-ridden statement from the DCCC.

"It's disgusting and disturbing that someone was able to carry a loaded assault rifle into a protest against the unjust killing of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man, and take the lives of two people and injure another — and face absolutely no consequences," read the statement from DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.).

"It is clear that our legal system has one set of rules for some Americans, and very different standards for others," the statement continued. "People are right to be outraged, and they are right to be outraged at the violence that disproportionately hurts people of color and the legal system that fails to hold the violence accountable."

Maloney's statement fell short of numerous easily verifiable facts and many on social media rushed to point them out.

"FFS, DCCC, get the underlying facts right! (Jacob Blake was shot and wounded in his car; he is still alive (albeit paralyzed)," replied columnist Rob George.

"The DCCC chairman's statement today says that Jacob Blake was 1) unarmed and 2) killed, neither of which is true. This is sensitive stuff and folks are stomping around like drunk elephants," tweeted reporter Dave Weigel.

"The @DCCC continues their streak of being the most incompetent organization in Washington," mocked the account for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Others pointed out the dubious classification of an AR-15 rifle as an "assault rife" by the DCCC.

The DCCC later released a corrected version of their statement that edited out "unjust killing" and also deleted the "unarmed" portion.

Biden ‘angry and concerned’ about the Rittenhouse verdict, pledges Wisconsin 'any assistance needed to ensure public safety'

President Joe Biden said he is "angry and concerned" over the verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial following a jury's decision to acquit the Illinois teenager of all charges Friday afternoon.

What happened?

In a statement issued Friday afternoon, the president legitimized the feelings of outrage that some may have in response to the not-guilty verdict but asked Americans to acknowledge the fact that the "jury has spoken."

Biden also requested that those upset over the trial's outcome "express their views peacefully," adding that "violence and destruction have no place in our democracy." Nevertheless, he pledged to the state of Wisconsin "any assistance needed to ensure public safety," as many fear the verdict could spark more rioting in Kenosha and across the country.

Below is the statement in full:

While the verdict in Kenosha will leave many Americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken. I ran on a promise to bring Americans together, because I believe that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. I know that we're not going to heal our country's wounds overnight, but I remain steadfast in my commitment to do everything in my power to ensure that every American is treated equally, with fairness and dignity, under the law.

I urge everyone to express their views peacefully, consistent with the rule of law. Violence and destruction of property have no place in our democracy. The White House and Federal authorities have been in contact with Governor Evers's office to prepare for any outcome in this case, and I have spoken with the Governor this afternoon and offered support and any assistance needed to ensure public safety.

What else?

Arriving back at the White House after undergoing a routine colonoscopy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the president initially told reporters, "I stand by what the jury has concluded. The jury system works and we have to abide by it."

During the brief exchange, Biden declined to reiterate claims he made last year describing Rittenhouse as a white supremacist, Axios reported.

After 26 hours of deliberation, jurors found Rittenhouse not guilty on five counts Friday — including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree attempted intentional homicide, and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

Biden's reasoned initial response as the sitting president stands in complete contrast to remarks he made as a presidential candidate last September shortly after the incidents occurred.

Long before the facts of the case had been investigated, Biden tweeted a derogatory video that flashed images of Rittenhouse carrying an AR-15, and above the video, he wrote, "There's no other way to put it: the President of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night."

When asked about the president's remarks during Rittenhouse's trial this week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki refused to denounce "the president's past comments," but added, "We shouldn't have, broadly speaking, vigilantes patrolling our communities with assault weapons."

Why does it matter?

The president's most recent statement will hopefully serve to disarm widespread negative reaction to Rittenhouse's acquittal, which many fear will spark more rioting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and elsewhere around the country.

But bringing peace and calm was far from the president's mind last year when he joined his Democratic counterparts in Congress and in the media to foment anger and push the unfounded narrative that branded Rittenhouse a white supremacist vigilante.

His words have not been forgotten.

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton tweeted on Friday that Biden should "publicly apologize" to Rittenhouse. And during the trial, the teen's mother, Wendy Rittenhouse, left open the option of suing Biden for defamation.

"Our lawyers are gonna handle that," she said when asked by Fox News reporters if her son's defense team would file lawsuits against powerful Americans such as Biden for "interfering in the justice system" and "defaming" her son.

Later, she suggested that Biden defamed her son "for the votes."

'Clown World has been defeated — for now': Crowder REACTS to Rittenhouse verdict

BREAKING: Jury finds Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty on all counts

A jury of 12 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, found 18-year-old accused murderer Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty on all counts Tuesday afternoon, marking a conclusive end to the most high-profile case to arise from last year's violent spree of Black Lives Matter riots.

The jury gave the verdict Friday afternoon after nearly four days of deliberation, acquitting the defendant of all charges.

The jury's determination is perceived as a victory for self-defense and gun-rights advocates as well as a repudiation of the unfounded narrative initially pushed by Democrats and mainstream media outlets that branded Rittenhouse as a white supremacist vigilante.

What's the background?

The Illinois teenager had been tried on multiple felony counts — including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and attempted first-degree intentional homicide — for fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounding Gage Grosskreutz, 28, during Black Lives Matter riots in the Wisconsin city on Aug. 25, 2020.

Riots had broken out in the city following the shooting of a black resident, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer. After multiple investigations, the officer who pulled the trigger that injured Blake was cleared of any wrongdoing and returned to the job.

Rittenhouse's defense team maintained that their client was ambushed by rioters after coming to Kenosha that night to protect local businesses against looting and burning and to provide medical aid to individuals injured in the uprising. The prosecution, on the other hand, sought to prove that Rittenhouse had come to the protests armed with an AR-15 in order to seek violence.

Rittenhouse would have served a mandatory life sentence in prison if he had been convicted. But in the end, the jury favored the defense team's arguments of self-defense over the prosecution's claims of murder.

What else?

As the trial unfolded, legal experts began characterizing the prosecution's bid as an uphill climb. Videos of incidents viewed by the public appeared to show Rittenhouse being chased down and physically threatened before firing any shots.

But in their closing arguments to the jury, the prosecution argued that Rittenhouse provoked the "entire incident" of fatalities by bringing a gun to the protests. They also argued that by bringing the gun, the defendant gave up his right to self-defense — an argument that flies in the face of both state and federal law.

"You lose the right to self-defense when you're the one who brought the gun," said Kenosha County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger. He later added, "You cannot claim self-defense against a danger you create. If you're the one threatening others, you lose the right to claim self-defense."

Elsewhere, the prosecution team seemed to mock Rittenhouse as a "coward" for bringing "a gun to a fistfight" and characterized the rioters who chased Rittenhouse as a crowd "full of heroes" who tried to stop an "active shooter."

Anything else?

Many now anxiously wait to see whether the verdict will ignite more rioting and looting in downtown Kenosha and elsewhere around the country.

Over the weekend, residents in the small Wisconsin city began bracing for a possible repeat of last August, NBC News reported. Several business owners, too, closed their shops on Monday in anticipation of violence and vandalism.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) also responded to potential violence by preemptively ordering 500 National Guard troops to Kenosha to ensure public safety and order.

This is a breaking story and may be updated.

Kyle Rittenhouse's mother argues that her son would have been murdered during riots if he hadn't been armed

Wendy Rittenhouse says that her son, 18-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, would be dead if he hadn't defended himself during 2020's violent unrest on the city streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin, NBC News reported.

What are the details?

Wendy told "Nightly News" Sunday night that her son would have been murdered if he weren't carrying his rifle on the fateful night he said he was attacked.

"A lot of people shouldn't have been there," Wendy insisted of the riots. "He brung that gun for protection, and to this day, if he didn't have that gun, my son would've been dead."

Kyle is currently on trial for murder in the shooting deaths of two protesters. He has insisted that he used his Smith & Wesson M&P 15 in self-defense while being attacked during the Jacob Blake protests and has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

A third protester was wounded in the fracas.

Kyle faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide, and attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

Wendy added that she is proud of her son for taking the stand to issue tearful testimony to profess his innocence.

"I'm scared. Fear. Overwhelm. I was a nervous wreck, my stomach was in knots. Kyle did a good job. When he broke down, I broke down," she admitted. "The whole family broke down when he was breaking down. And I was just so scared for him and knowing, knowing that he's telling the truth, that's what he wanted to do, and I stood by him, and I will always stay by him."

During his testimony, Kyle said, "I didn't intend to kill them. I intended to stop the people who were attacking me."

Lawyers on both sides are set to deliver their closing arguments Monday.
