Los Angeles rushes to protect illegal aliens in defiance of Trump's mass deportation plan



In anticipation of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration in January, the Los Angeles City Council rushed to approve a "sanctuary city" ordinance on Tuesday.

The city council passed the measure in a unanimous vote, with council member Hugo Soto-Martinez (D) calling it "a very clear message" that the city refuses to "cooperate with ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] in any way."

'That's not in the interest of public safety in Los Angeles or California.'

"We want people to feel protected and be able to have faith in their government and that women can report domestic violence, crimes," Soto-Martinez said.

Before the ordinance is enacted, the city council will vote on it one last time. Mayor Karen Bass (D) has the authority to veto the measure but has already been vocal about her support, the Associated Press reported.

"This moment demands urgency. Immigrant protections make our communities stronger and our city better," Bass said.

The news outlet noted that it remains to be seen whether the newly passed ordinance will have any significant impact, given that the Los Angeles Police Department has for decades adhered to Special Order 40, a policy that prevents officers from asking about immigration status or making arrests based on an individual's immigration status.

Additionally, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell has vowed to protect illegal aliens. He told KTTV this week that he can guarantee that his department will not be working with ICE to detain foreign nationals who are unlawfully in the country.

"That's not in our interest to do that. That's not in the interest of public safety in Los Angeles or California," McDonnell claimed.

The state also has sanctuary policies in place to shield illegal immigrants from deportation efforts.

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) stated last week that he and other state leaders are working to "Trump-proof" the state.

State Attorney General Rob Bonta said, "I can promise to the undocumented immigrant community in California that I and my team have been thinking about you for months and the harm that might come from the Trump administration 2.0. We'll do everything in our power and use the full authority of our office to defend you."

Tom Homan, the incoming border czar for the Trump administration, has committed to deploying additional ICE agents to sanctuary jurisdictions, aiming to expedite the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants with or without local authorities' cooperation.

"If they're not gonna help us, then we'll just double the manpower in those cities. They don't want ICE agents in their neighborhoods, but they don't let ICE agents in the jail. They don't understand, if you let us in the jail, that'd be less agents in your neighborhood," Homan told "Fox News Live" on Saturday.

California sues Catholic hospital for refusing to abort twins after mother's water broke



California's Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta continued his crusade against pro-life institutions Monday, filing a lawsuit against a Catholic hospital, Providence St. Joseph of Eureka, for not promptly aborting a mother's twins.

"With today's lawsuit, I want to make this clear for all Californians: Abortion care is health care. You have the right to access timely and safe abortion services," said Bonta. "At the California Department of Justice, we will use the full force of this office to hold accountable those who, like Providence, are breaking the law."

According to the complaint, Anna Nusslock visited Providence after her water prematurely broke and she began bleeding. A doctor allegedly diagnosed Nusslock, then 15 weeks pregnant, with previable premature pre-labor rupture of membranes and told the mother that while both twins had heart tones, one of them was sure to perish and the fate of the other baby was uncertain.

Another doctor at University of California San Francisco Medical Center told Nusslock over the phone that there was only a remote chance that the second twin might survive.

'We have a hospital implementing a policy that's reminiscent of heartbeat laws in extremist red states.'

The hospital, which recently saved the life of a baby boy born 96 days early, allegedly informed Nusslock that policy precluded medical professionals there from providing an an "emergency" abortion as long as one of the babies had a "detectable heartbeat" or unless there was an immediate risk to Nusslock's life.

"It is damning that here in California, where abortion care is a constitutional right, we have a hospital implementing a policy that's reminiscent of heartbeat laws in extremist red states," Bonta said of the apparent policy against elective abortions.

The complaint noted that the hospital initially recommended that Nusslock be helicoptered to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, but she declined, unwilling to be separated from her husband and convinced that her insurance would not cover the cost. The hospital then allegedly discharged Nusslock with free towels and instructions to drive to Mad River Community Hospital, roughly 20 minutes away.

The lawsuit accuses the hospital of violating the Unruh Civil Rights Act, violating the health code's nonmedical transfer provision, and violating the state's Emergency Services Law, which requires hospitals to provide care "necessary to relieve or eliminate the emergency medical condition."

A spokesman for the hospital said in a statement to ABC News that "Providence is deeply committed to the health and wellness of women and pregnant patients and provides emergency services to all who walk through our doors in accordance with state and federal law. We are heartbroken over Dr. Nusslock's experience earlier this year."

"This morning was the first Providence had heard of the California attorney general's lawsuit, and we are currently reviewing the filings to understand what is being alleged," continued the spokesman. "Because this case is in active litigation and due to patient confidentiality, we cannot comment on the matter," the spokesperson added.

In his remarks, Bonta bemoaned the U.S. Supreme Court's recent refusal to qualify abortion as among the varieties of "stabilizing care" required of every hospital with an emergency department participating in Medicare under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.

Without such a federal mandate conflating stability with the termination of human life, Bonta indicated that "states like California have to rely on their own state laws to protect pregnant patients."

Bonta has not only worked to combat policies ostensibly designed to protect life in his state but in other states as well. Last year, he joined New York Attorney General Letitia James in leading a coalition to back the Biden-Harris administration's challenge to Idaho's popular and democratically passed pro-life law. They failed.

Bonta also sued Heartbeat International last year and a chain of crisis pregnancy centers over their promotion of medical abortion reversal. That case has yet to be decided.

Comic-Con sting operation busts sex trafficking ring — 1 minor, 9 adult victims rescued



A recent undercover sting operation resulted in the rescue of 10 victims, including one minor, and the arrest of 14 alleged sex buyers at the San Diego Comic-Con, according to a recent press release from the office of Attorney General Rob Bonta (D).

The AG's office, along with the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, sent undercover law enforcement officers on a three-day operation to pose as sex buyers, posting fake advertisements soliciting sex to locate and identify potential victims and carry out the arrests of traffickers. The operation successfully arrested more than a dozen alleged sex buyers and rescued nine adult victims and a 16-year-old girl.

'Coercion and violence which enslaves people for profit.'

"Child Welfare Services and adult and juvenile support service advocates were on scene to provide support as needed," the press release noted.

Bonta explained that sex traffickers use the annual Comic-Con in San Diego and other "large-scale events" as opportunities to exploit victims. Comic-Con draws more than 100,000 attendees.

"These arrests send a clear message to potential offenders that their criminal behavior will not be tolerated," Bonta said. "We are grateful to all our dedicated partners involved in the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, whose collaboration has been invaluable. We take great pride in our office's commitment to uplifting vulnerable Californians by offering them assistance and guidance when they need it most."

San Diego Sheriff Kelly Martinez called human trafficking the most "insidious crime."

"The coercion and violence which enslaves people for profit and places them into forced labor or sex is criminal," Martinez stated. "As the sheriff I support the efforts of all our justice partners in holding perpetrators accountable. I appreciate the focus that was placed on the recent convention to identify and rescue victims of human trafficking."

San Diego Police Chief Wahl remarked, "Working together, teams identified and arrested more than a dozen individuals participating in these illegal acts in our city over the weekend. This successful operation recovered 10 victims of human trafficking, including a girl of just 16 years old. These results show our collective dedication to combatting human trafficking and holding criminals accountable are working."

The San Diego Comic Convention told Fox News Digital it was unaware of the sting operation.

"Obviously, we find this very disturbing, and while we were not made aware of this operation, it is our understanding that the arrests were made outside of the event," the convention stated. "We work closely with a variety of law enforcement entities throughout the year and stand ready to assist in any way we can."
