Sarah Silverman says she avoided politics because 'no one wanted to hear from celebrities right now'

Leftwing comedian Sarah Silverman said she avoided politics ahead of Election Day because her gut told her no one wanted to hear from celebrities.

Silverman made the comments in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune about her stand-up comedy tour. The interviewer asked her why she had not been as involved in the election as in previous cycles.

'I told young Jews to tell their grandparents they wouldn’t visit them again unless they voted for Obama. I should have done something like that again.'

"A lot of people asked me if I was going to make a video or something. But my feeling was that no one wanted to hear from celebrities right now. Maybe I was wrong. I just focused on reposting thoughts from smarter people," said the comedian.

"There is one thing I wish I had done. In 2008, I did something called the Great Schlep where I told young Jews to tell their grandparents they wouldn’t visit them again unless they voted for Obama. I should have done something like that again," Silverman explained.

"Not that it would have made a difference," she added.

Silverman also said that being on tour got in the way of her opining on politics. She went on to say that her show had little to do with politics because she was focused on the deaths of her stepbrother and her father only nine days apart.

The comedian had previously been outspoken in her support for liberal politicians, but in 2021, she admitted that she was wary of partisanship and didn't want to be associated with a political party anymore. She also lambasted the Democratic Party.

"It's so f***ing elitist, you know, for something called progressive, it allows for zero progress. It's all or nothing, no steps toward, all or f***ing nothing. Again, righteousness porn," she said at the time.

"I've been thinking about this a lot, just in general," Silverman added. "I just, I don't know that I want to be associated with any party. I really, I think I don't want to be associated with any party anymore."

'Hellboy' actor Ron Perlman says it's time for blue states to 'separate' from red states

Ron Perlman, the Hollywood movie star known for playing tough-talking, cigar-chomping loud mouths, recently endorsed the concept of a national divorce via social media.

“You don’t wanna live in my world and I certainly don’t want to live in yours,” Perlman wrote.

It’s time that every state they would elect republicans to represent them, and all of the rest of us separate. You don’t wanna live in my world and I certainly don’t want to live in yours.
— Ron Perlman (@Ron Perlman) 1643918640

Perlman’s disdain for conservatives and the Republican Party is well documented. After the passing of popular conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh, Perlman took to Twitter to express his condolences to the Devil, “who will no doubt have to spend the rest of eternity with Rush Limbaugh.”

The Hellboy actor also used his platform to accuse a disabled veteran turned ICE agent of having a Nazi symbol tattooed on him.

I know I’m a leftist, “D List” actor, so my twitter feed is probably deceiving me, but is that an iron cross tattooed on this hero’s arm? This is a mistake, right? Cuz the Iron Cross was a symbol of Nazi Germany.

Gotta be my twitter feed is leaning left again.https://twitter.com/icegov/status/1000032995384807425 …
— Ron Perlman (@Ron Perlman) 1529331563

Instead of simply apologizing when proved wrong, Perlman took the opportunity to criticize ICE, saying that the organization tends to “racially profile decent people.”

My apologies! I mistook the symbol on this man’s arm before I actually knew the facts. So again, I apologize to the man in this picture for my mistake.

Maybe it was the gusto, the relish this agency seems to project in their obsession to racially profile decent people.https://twitter.com/perlmutations/status/1008715802558672897 …

Ron Perlman’s elitist disdain for anyone beyond his leftist echo chamber isn’t a new development. Especially in recent years, Hollywood is more recognizable for its leftwing virtual signaling than for creating decent cinema.

However, Perlman’s call for secession is unique. He joins a growing list of celebrities — who frankly have more influence than we tend to acknowledge — who have called for national divorce.

Last September, on an episode of her podcast, comedian Sarah Silverman said, “If people aren’t getting along, like in relationships, they break up. So why don’t we just finally realize these states aren’t working and divide up into like two or three countries?”

I agree with Sarah Silverman!? youtu.be

Leftist thought leaders have also called for a national divorce. Prior to the 2020 presidential election, Ben Smith, the founding editor in chief of Buzzfeed News, suggested in the New York Times that if influential blue states threatened to secede from the union, they could persuade the rest of the United States to favor their political preferences.

Richard Kreitner, author of “Break It Up: Secession, Division, and the Secret History of America’s Imperfect Union,” theorized that a national divorce would make it easier to enact large-scale progressive policies.

In the fall of 2020, while speaking to the Nation about his book, Kreitner said, “What if the United States broke apart? Would that be such a bad thing? Is it possible that the progressive policies and programs that I wanted to see put into place might be easier to enact in a smaller entity than the United States, with its 330 million people and the need to always convince people with very different attitudes and interests?”

Talk of secession isn’t only a leftwing phenomenon, however. Conservatives in Texas, in recent years, have suggested that the Lone Star State could secede from the union should Democrats “fundamentally destroy the country.”

Regardless of whether or not secession is a tenable theory — frankly, no legitimate secessionist movement could succeed without large-scale violence and economic chaos — it has rapidly gained popularity in multiple political circles.

A recent survey conducted by the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia found that 50% of Donald Trump voters and 40% of Joe Biden voters “agreed to some extent with the proposition that the country should be split up, with either red or blue states seceding.”

Despite how drastic a concept that national divorce truly is, it cannot be denied that it is becoming increasingly popular.

Sarah Silverman punches back at liberal critics who suggested racism after she knocked Joy Reid: 'I cannot believe I need to say this'

Liberal comedian Sarah Silverman fired back at liberals who criticized her last week after Silverman told MSNBC host Joy Reid that she should read articles before commenting on them.

What is the background?

Early in December, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced plans to revive the Florida State Guard, a civilian force over which he would have total control. Democrats and media members, including Reid, immediately responded by raising hysteria, claiming it proved DeSantis has authoritarian impulses.

"So… y’all know this is fascisty bananas, right…?" Reid responded on Twitter, linking to a CNN story detailing DeSantis' plan.

However, the CNN story that Reid shared plainly stated that Florida would become the 23rd state in the United States to have such a force activated, thus disproving any notion of fascistic behavior from DeSantis. Silverman used the opportunity to make a point.

"Please read the article before you post this stuff you’re a news outlet," Silverman told Reid. "The truth has to matter."

What happened now?

Silverman responded to the incident on her podcast last week. Specifically, Silverman pushed back against criticism that she received from the liberals.

"We're so divided we can't even criticize, critique the people [on] our own side. We can’t even critique anyone in your own party without punishment,” Silverman explained on her podcast.

“One of the hosts of 'The View' was like, ‘What hubris for Sarah Silverman to accuse a black woman of not reading,’ Oy! Jesus H— What the f— I f***ing— I surrender! Good grief!" Silverman continued. "I cannot believe I need to say this, but I did not criticize Joy Ann because she’s black, but because she’s a Harvard-educated journalist with the responsibility ideally of showing the whole picture and not just a piece of a picture."

After noting the complexities of political journalism — that opinions are often mixed together with news — Silverman lamented that most news is tainted with bias.

"Where do I get just the plain old news?” Silverman asked. “I need a news outlet that’s just the facts, something that I can draw my own opinion. It’s just facts, and then I draw my own opinion on it. That’d be so nice. I’d like to draw my own conclusions sometimes. I mean, I’m interested in other people’s thoughts, but, um, it can’t only be that.”

“And good grief!” she continued. “You dare criticize anything in your own party, you’re the enemy. And that kind of black and white thinking on both sides...it’s such a turn-off to me: That ‘you’re either with us or against us’ kind of vibe with no room for questions or critique — it feels very not liberal to me."

Sarah Silverman calls out MSNBC's Joy Reid for hysteria over Gov. Ron DeSantis: 'The truth has to matter'

Liberal comedian Sarah Silverman took a shot at MSNBC host Joy Reid Friday for raising hysteria over a new proposal by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

What did DeSantis propose?

The Florida governor announced a proposal on Thursday that would allocate $3.5 million in state funds toward re-establishing the Florida State Guard.

An announcement explained:

The establishment of the Florida State Guard will further support those emergency response efforts in the event of a hurricane, natural disasters and other state emergencies. The $3.5 million to establish the Florida State Guard will enable civilians to be trained in the best emergency response techniques. By establishing the Florida State Guard, Florida will become the 23rd state with a state guard recognized by the federal government.

The Florida State Guard was launched in 1941 during World War II after the federal government activated the Florida National Guard to fight overseas. The FSG was disbanded in 1947 after the Florida National Guard was released from federal active-duty.

The proposal was immediately met with hysteria from Democrats, who claimed DeSantis is a "wannabe dictator." However, as DeSantis' office noted, 22 other states currently have a state-forces similar to the Florida State Guard.

What happened with Reid and Silverman?

Reid claimed Friday that DeSantis' proposal is evidence of authoritarian and fascistic impulses.

"So… y’all know this is fascisty bananas, right…?" Reid said on social media, linking to a CNN story detailing DeSantis' plan.

In response, Silverman pointed out that Reid's comments proved that she did not actually read the story she posted before offering her comment on it.

"Please read the article before you post this stuff you’re a news outlet," Silverman hit back. "The truth has to matter."

The very CNN story that Reid shared, in fact, showed how DeSantis' proposal is not "fascisty bananas," but rather akin to what 22 other states already have.

From the story:

States have the power to create defense forces separate from the national guard, though not all of them use it. If Florida moves ahead with DeSantis' plan to reestablish the civilian force, it would become the 23rd active state guard in the country, DeSantis' office said in a press release, joining California, Texas and New York.

Only six U.S. states — Arizona, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming — have never established a state defense force.

'Guess what ... YOU are the bigot': Dave Rubin torches Sarah Silverman over INSANE Caitlyn Jenner rant

On the latest episode of "The Rubin Report," BlazeTV host Dave Rubin talked about liberal comedian Sarah Silverman's bizarre rant over California gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner's opposition to biological boys who are trans participating in all-female school sports.

As both a former Olympic athlete and transgender female, Jenner has taken a strong stance on the controversial issue.

"This is a question of fairness, that's why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls sports in school," Jenner told TMZ. "It just isn't fair, and we have to protect girls sports in our schools."

In response, Silverman went on an unhinged rant during her podcast, accusing Jenner of "transphobia" and calling the prominent transgender celebrity "such a t***."

"A trans girl is a girl. She should have the same rights as cis girls," Silverman said. "What, you think a trans girl is too strong? What about tall girls as opposed to short girls? What about boys in high school who are teeny tiny and their teammates have already hit puberty and are shaving? Why don't you just have co-ed sports divided by weight and height, you know? This is so dumb.

"They are legislating this s*** without one single example of how this plays out. This is not worrying about girls' sports. Uh, believe me. There are better ways to worry about girls' sports. This is not worrying. This is not concern for girls' sports. It's transphobia, full stop. It's such a bummer when such a prominent trans woman is such a t***."

After sharing a video clip from Silverman's podcast, Rubin asked, "How does anyone watch that? It's such an unpleasant way of speaking — her certitude about something when she doesn't know what she's talking about.

"All Caitlyn wants, and all most sane people want, is to not have biological boys competing with biological girls in sports ... saying that makes you transphobic?" Dave added.

"And also, the word transphobic — that you have an irrational fear of trans people — it seems to me that Sarah Silverman is transphobic. [...] When Caitlyn Jenner first came out as trans four years ago, she was a hero to all of these people. But then she committed the cardinal sin of woke-ism. She dared start saying what she actually believes, and now she is the enemy. So, it is you, Sarah Silverman, who is transphobic because you have an irrational fear of trans people who think for themselves. Guess what, Sarah Silverman. Not all trans people have to think the way you think they should think. Thus, you are the bigot in this case."

Sarah Silverman Is Right: Democrats Are The Party Of Absolutism

"It's so f-cking elitist," Silverman said of the Democratic Party. "For something called progressive, it allows for zero progress. It's all or nothing."
