Karine Jean-Pierre gets hammered online for dismissive response to Justice Brett Kavanaugh being assailed by protesters
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was hammered by her critics online after she offered a very dismissive statements about protesters assailing a Supreme Court justice.
Jean-Pierre was responding to a report that Justice Brett Kavanaugh was forced to leave a restaurant because protesters were following and harassing him.
"We have been very clear on this, the president has been very clear, that we condemn any intimidation of the judges in this specific question here, we have condemned that," Jean-Pierre said.
Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre on what the line was between intimidation and protesting, and she appeared to approve of the acts against Kavanaugh.
"So these Justices, because protesters do not agree with an opinion that they signed onto, have no right to privacy, is what you're saying?" asked Doocy.
"People have the right, this is what Democracy is," Jean-Pierre answered. "Of course people have a right to privacy but people also have the right to protest peacefully, peacefully, it's the intimidation and the violence that we condemn."
Many of the administration's critics were incensed about the comments from the White House.
"Holy s***. That's such a vile answer. That's not what democracy is and if she thinks it is, good luck when the crowds show up at her home to get loud. Good grief what a terrible job she's doing," replied radio talk show host Erick Erickson.
"This is who they are. It is who they were during the 2014 & 2020 riots & the mobs at the Kavanaugh hearings. Yet, they profess shock when citizens vent at events like town hall meetings & school boards that are *designed* for public participation," responded Dan McLaughlin of National Review.
"On a very basic level, who in their right mind is going to vie for public service if one side persists in encouraging its people to harass public servants?" asked Josh Hammer of Newsweek.
