Former teacher, 26, accused of having sex with 16-year-old male student

A former teacher in Michigan is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student, WDIV-TV reported.

Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, of Pontiac is accused of having a sexual relationship with the teen in 2023 while she taught at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township, WDIV added. Waterford Township is about 40 minutes northwest of Detroit.

'This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim.'

Sanroman confided in a fellow teacher that she was having sex with a student, and that teacher in turn told police, the station said, citing prosecutors.

Sanroman was arraigned Monday on three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, WJBK-TV reported.

If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison, WDIV said.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday told Blaze News that Sanroman turned herself in Monday. Jail records indicate she was booked Monday morning and released Monday afternoon. The sheriff's office added to Blaze News that while Sanroman didn't post bond, she's responsible for a $20,000 personal bond if she doesn't appear at her July 10 probable cause conference.

"Any time any member of the school staff, teacher, coach, is trying to develop a relationship with you, it doesn’t matter who initiates it; it’s a crime," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald told WJBK in a separate story.

McDonald added to WJBK that while a 16-year-old can consent, it's different when the other party is a teacher.

The prosecutor noted to WJBK that she also was a teacher when she was the suspect's age, "but I'm also a parent."

"School is supposed to be someplace where your kids feel safe," McDonald added to WJBK.

“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” McDonald noted to WDIV. “These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community. As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation.”

A news crew from WJBK paid a visit to the former teacher's home but said no one was there.

An Oakside Prep Academy spokesperson told WJBK that school officials "acted immediately after learning about these allegations." The spokesperson added to WJBK that "these are troubling allegations that are unsettling to everyone in our school community" and that students' "safety and well-being remains our top priority."

News of this latest teacher-student sex scandal comes on the heels of a headline-grabbing case out of New York state where a 22-year-old now-former school district employee is accused of sending nude photos of herself to a 14-year-old boy.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office last month said Anamaria Milazzo from the town of Elmira was arrested on charges of disseminating indecent material to minors in the second degree — a class E felony — and endangering the welfare of a child, which is a class A misdemeanor.

The Daily Voice said Milazzo was arrested June 16 and that she had worked as a teaching assistant since December 2024. Milazzo was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Wellsburg Village Court at a later date, the sheriff's office said.

The school district in question — the Greater Southern Tier Board of Cooperative Educational Services — noted in a statement provided to WETM-TV last week that Milazzo "was put on leave as soon as we were first made aware of the allegations by law enforcement and has not been present at BOCES since that time. She has resigned and will not be returning to campus."

Former kids' camp manager arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting boy, sending him nude images of herself

A New Jersey woman is facing several child sex crime charges after authorities claimed she had a months-long illicit relationship with an underage male. The female suspect was reportedly a former kids' camp manager.

According to Salem County Jail records, 46-year-old Tara Carr was arrested Jan. 9. Carr was charged with one count of luring/enticing a child by various means, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of sexual conduct with a child.

'Tara is the victim here. She reported this shakedown from the two juveniles, and I say juveniles because these are gang members with guns.'

Carr, of Woodstown, is accused of having an illegal relationship with a 14-year-old boy between March and May 2024.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Carr sent the boy sexually explicit messages and nude photos of herself on the Snapchat app. Citing the probable cause affidavit for Carr's arrest, the outlet reported she sexually abused the child in the back of her Chevrolet SUV.

According to the affidavit, Carr allegedly admitted to police that she had picked up the teen from his housing complex several times and hugged and kissed him at least once. She purportedly confessed to contacting him on Snapchat, where she allegedly sent the minor nude images of herself.

Citing officials, WCAU-TV reported that investigators obtained Carr's cell phone and accessed her Snapchat account, which corroborated the alleged victim's allegations.

Carr’s attorney, Charles Peruto, said his client is innocent and claimed the teen and another boy were attempting a "shakedown" of the woman.

"The allegations are completely and totally false," Peruto told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Tara is the victim here. She reported this shakedown from the two juveniles, and I say juveniles because these are gang members with guns."

Peruto claimed the two boys threatened Carr with guns. The attorney said his client reported the threats to the Woodstown Police Department, which didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from the Inquirer.

Peruto said Carr's children attend the same school as the alleged victim.

Carr was being held in the Salem County Jail and was awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday, the Inquirer said, citing court records.

The paper added that Carr is a member of the Rastelli family — owners of the Rastelli Foods Group.

According to WPVI-TV, "Carr is a former part-owner of the Rastelli Kids Complex and a former director of Camp Sam, a popular summer program for kids at RKC."

Until May 2024, Carr served as a director of the Rastelli Kids Complex — a children’s recreation complex in Sewell that hosts programs including a cheerleading camp and a summer and day camp.

George Polgar, spokesperson for the Rastelli family, told the outlet that Carr was asked to resign as soon as the child sex abuse allegations surfaced.

Polgar also said the alleged victim never visited the sports complex and stressed that Carr’s role as director was as a manager and that she was not involved in day-to-day operations, the Inquirer noted. Polgar added that in her role as director, Carr occasionally worked at the sports complex and sometimes had contact with children.

"Number one, Tara Carr has not been associated with any organized activity having to do with kids," Polgar stated. "The sports center that the family runs and that she was involved in, she hasn’t been involved since May of last year. She was one of several people involved in management there. She wasn’t actually involved in any of the cheer programs."

The Rastelli Kids Complex released a statement, "While Tara was previously an owner of RKC, she has never had any involvement in the operations or coaching of any SJS Cheer Programs or teams — and she will continue to not have any role with SJS."

Murder of judge gets more mysterious after reports of accused sheriff having lunch with judge just hours prior, sex scandal

Investigators are seeking motives for the shocking murder of a Kentucky judge. The suspect is a sheriff — who had been close friends with the judge. The pair even had lunch together just hours before the judge was fatally shot earlier this month, according to reports.

As Blaze News previously reported, Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines, 43, is accused of shooting 53-year-old Judge Kevin Mullins on Sept. 19.

'Nobody I know can understand what happened between lunchtime and the judge's death.'

Stines is accused of walking into the judge’s chambers at the Letcher County Circuit Court and shooting Mullins eight times. Mullins was pronounced dead at the crime scene.

The sheriff reportedly exited the courtroom with his hands up after the shooting and was taken into custody without incident.

Stines pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge.

Surveillance video from inside the chambers showed the pair exchanging cellphones and looking at something on them before the sheriff walked over and shot the judge dead, sources told the Mountain Eagle.

“Our investigators seized the two cell phones, and they’re being analyzed,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart said Sunday.

The shooting is especially curious since Stines and Mullins reportedly had been decades-long friends.

What's more, the Daily Mail reported that the pair went to lunch at the Streetside Grill & Bar on Main Street just hours before the shooting.

A restaurant employee told the outlet that Stines and Mullins ordered their usual lunch — both having chicken wings with salad.

"Everything seemed fine between them. There was no clue that anything was wrong at all," an employee said. "You wouldn't have guessed there was the slightest problem."

The employee added that "it's fair to say we had a lot of business from the judge and the sheriff. They'd been coming here together for lunch for years. Nobody I know can understand what happened between lunchtime and the judge's death."

Letcher Circuit Clerk Mike Watts told the Mountain Eagle, “I never knew of there being any kind of friction between them till it came to this. We all got along good, teased each other."

Until he became sheriff in 2018, Stines was the bailiff for Judge Mullins. Ben Fields succeeded Stines as Mullins' bailiff.

Fields, it turns out, coerced a female prisoner to have sex with him inside Judge Mullins' chambers. The woman alleged she was promised "favorable treatment for sexual favors."

Earlier this year, Fields pleaded guilty to raping a female prisoner while she was on home incarceration.

Fields was sentenced to six months in jail and then six and a half years of probation for rape, sodomy, perjury, and tampering with a prisoner monitoring device. Three charges related to a second woman were dismissed because she is now dead.

Stines fired Fields for "conduct unbecoming," the Courier Journal reported.

Days before the shooting, Stines was deposed in a lawsuit filed by two women, one of whom was Fields' victim. The civil lawsuit accuses Stines of “deliberate indifference in failing to adequately train and supervise” Fields, an ex-deputy.

When asked if a "sex scandal" was a possible motive in the fatal shooting of the judge, Trooper Gayheart confirmed: “Absolutely. We are not ruling out anything as a possible motive.”

Gayheart did not elaborate on the sex scandal in question.

The Mountain Eagle noted swirling gossip regarding the motives for the murder, "Rumors, apparently none true, have raced through the community, setting a torch to other relationships. The community is split between those bent on spreading salacious gossip and those determined to protect the families of two men they saw as pillars of the community."

Are Political Sex Scandals A Thing Of The Past?

After a major political reporter has been caught sexting a presidential candidate, does anyone believe there are still real consequences for such tawdry and unethical behavior?

Tennessee city pays $500,000 to ex-cop who had sexual trysts with 6 fellow officers, lawsuit says she was 'sexually groomed'

The former cop who was fired after being involved in an explosive sex scandal at a Tennessee police department has been awarded a $500,000 settlement from the city of La Vergne.

In January 2023, several officers at the La Vergne Police Department were suspended or fired over a sordid sex scandal. As Blaze News previously reported, there were allegations of unreported sexual relationships, having sex while on duty, and sexual harassment by sending pornographic photos and videos.

There were reported games of "strip Uno," a "Girls Gone Wild"-themed hot tub party, and foot fetish photos being shared.

The officers who were terminated are Patrol Officer Juan Lugo Perez, Sgt. Lewis Powell, Detective Seneca Shields, Sgt. Henry Ty McGowan, and Patrol Officer Maegan Hall. La Vergne Police Department Chief Burrel "Chip" Davis was also fired for allegedly receiving sexually explicit photos and videos of Hall.

Hall, 28, allegedly had sexual relations with six of her coworkers – which were not reported to the department.

In March 2023, Hall filed a federal civil lawsuit against the city of La Vergne. Hall claimed she was "sexually groomed" by her police colleagues.

Hall's attorney, Wesley Clark, previously said, "On several occasions, Hall tried to get out of this relationship, and she was not allowed to."

"Maegan wasn't looked at as a rookie cop to be trained and promoted," Clark claimed. "She was looked at like a piece of meat to be sexualized and exploited."

Hall said in an interview last year, "My supervisors worked together to take advantage of my vulnerabilities and mental health, and they used it for their gain and their sexual pleasure."

She said, "Who do you turn to when the chief of police is sexually harassing you? How can I get justice when the entire system, including the chief, not only condoned such behavior but participated in it? I was lost, and I felt alone. I had no one to turn to and nowhere to go."

On Wednesday, the La Vergne board voted 3-1 at a special meeting to settle the lawsuit.

Hall will receive $500,000 from the settlement.

The city denied "any admission of liability" and noted that no taxpayer funds were spent to settle the lawsuit, according to WTVF.

La Vergne Alderman Dennis Waldron was the lone dissenting vote.

Waldron said of the board's approval of the half-million-dollar settlement: "What message does that send to all the other employees?"

"It's sending a message out to everybody in the world [that says] come to La Vergne, sue La Vergne because they’re going to settle," Waldron stated.

Clark expressed that he is "absolutely" satisfied with the $500,000 settlement.

The attorney told WTVF, "This was her decision. She wanted to put this in the past and move forward with her life."

Clark remarked about Waldron's comment, "Well, I've got great advice for him. Stop breaking the law and you won't get sued."
