Angry mom threatens to sue Texas legislators if they approve CRT, gender theory for public schools: 'A lot of parents are too afraid to speak out'

A mom of two schoolchildren in Texas is fed up with what she calls woke "indoctrination" and has threatened to take state legislators to court if they ever approve teaching such indoctrination in Texas K-12 classrooms.

Gabrielle Clark claims she drove three hours to Austin and stayed overnight in a hotel she couldn't really afford in order to attend the public education meeting held by members of the Texas House of Representatives on June 26, 2022.

"If my daughter is taught CRT at all, I will sue you," Clark told the panel. "If my daughter is taught [social and emotional learning] at all, I will sue you. I am encouraging every parent I know to sue you, to sue every teacher, every principal, every system, everybody up the chain … because we're tired of y'all."

"I'm an atheist, bisexual, bi-racial, homeless person," Clark continued. "I do not want my child to be taught that just because she is black and a woman, she ain't gonna make it. I do not want my daughter to be taught that she needs to express herself sexually in her classroom."

"Ya'll are trippin'," Clark added. "Every single day we go to school and we see our teachers lie to us, lie right to our faces. And ya'll say you have our best interests at heart? So why does everything have to be so difficult? … Why do you have to be a lawyer in order to figure all this stuff out?"

Clark first entered the public fray against CRT and social and emotional learning in December 2020, when she still lived in Nevada. At that time, she filed a lawsuit against a series of Las Vegas charter schools, educational agencies, and school officials for supposedly violating her son's free speech and due process rights. She said they tried to coerce her son into accepting a CRT-based oppressor/oppressed narrative taught in a sociology class required for graduation.

"I wasn't going to let my son be alone in standing against it when he did. He said that anybody can be racist. And anybody can be racist. And I don't care what the woke say about that. Racism is being prejudiced of race, not power plus privilege or whatever – whatever parallel language messaging they're using to describe racism now," Clark said.

The status of the Nevada lawsuit is unclear. Clark moved with her children to Texas in January 2022. Several months before, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law which prohibits state public schoolteachers from telling students that people of a particular race are superior or inferior to those of other races. The law went into effect in December 2021, but Gov. Abbott still said at the time that "more must be done to abolish critical race theory in Texas."
