CROWDER: Disney projected to lose $100 million on latest flick that promotes climate change and homosexual teen romance

Disney's latest film, "Strange World," is about a gay teen romance and climate change. Crowder and his team did the dirty work of watching the movie so you don't have to.

In this clip, Crowder shared clips from the flick and explained that Disney's "Strange World" is not just a gay teen romance. It's also a climate change commentary, and it is projected to cost the studio $100 million. In Crowder's view, the market has spoken, and Disney will have to pay the price for the flopped film.

"An area where you can be effective at boycotting is consistent consumption," Crowder said. Catch the full episode of "Louder with Crowder" here.

'Strange World,' Disney's $180 million movie featuring a gay teen romance, flops at box office and is lowest-rated House of Mouse flick in 31 years

The Walt Disney Company was expecting big things from their latest animated movie "Strange World," the House of Mouse's first movie to feature an openly gay teen relationship. Disney enlisted high-profile Hollywood celebrities for voice roles, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, and Dennis Quaid. Disney released "Strange World" during the extended Thanksgiving weekend – when Hollywood launches some of its most anticipated movies. However, early box office results show that "Strange World" is a flop.

"Strange World" made its world premiere on Wednesday, but Disney decided not to release the animated movie in more than 20 countries "where its LGBTQ+ content would have very likely forced demands for edits," according to Deadline.

The movie stars 27-year-old Jaboukie Young-White – who is best known for being a correspondent on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah." Young-White voices a character named "Jaeger" – a gay 16-year-old who has a "boy crush" on another boy named "Daizo."

Variety described a scene from the Disney movie, "Walt Disney screened three sequences from 'Strange World.' In the first, Ethan flirts with heartthrob Diazo while friends from school look on, teasing in a friendly and warm-hearted way. Much to Ethan’s chagrin, his dad Searcher soon joins in, embarrassing his son with an overeager show of acceptance."

"Strange World" has struggled at the box office since opening this week.

"After a rocky $4.2 million opening day on Wednesday, the film collected $2.4 million from 4,174 North American theaters on Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday," according to Variety. "With its two-day total at $6.7 million, weekend estimates for 'Strange World' have been revised slightly. Now, the movie is expected to end the five-day frame with roughly $26 million, which is still a dismal result given its $180 million production budget."

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," which has been in movie theaters since Nov. 11, raked in $8.1 million on Thanksgiving, and is expected to make up to $63 million over the five-day period.

Variety noted, "To compare, Disney’s musical fantasy 'Encanto' collected $40.3 million over the extended holiday frame in 2021. And box office watchers were kinder when it came to assessing those ticket sales because, at the time, young kids were still getting vaccinated for the first time."

The outlet added that previous Disney movies released during Thanksgiving "enjoyed significantly bigger opening weekends," including 2019's "Frozen II" with $123.7 million, 2018's "Ralph Breaks the Internet" at $84.6 million, and 2017's "Coco" with $71 million.

If the sorry box office figures weren't disastrous enough, "Strange World" is the lowest-rated Disney movie in 31 years.

"Strange World" was given a "B" rating from CinemaScore – a market research firm that surveys audiences to rate movies. CinemaScore began rating Disney animated movies in 1991 with "Beauty and the Beast," and all of the Walt Disney Animation Studios films have earned a rating of at least "A-," according to ScreenRant.

Over the summer, Disney's "Lightyear" was also a flop at the box office following a woke decision to include a lesbian kissing scene in the cartoon movie aimed at children.

Upcoming animated Disney movie 'Strange World' features the company's first openly gay teen romance

Disney's upcoming animated movie "Strange World" will feature a storyline of an openly gay teen romance. This is the first openly gay teen relationship showcased in a Disney animated feature.

The movie boasts Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, Dennis Quaid, and 27-year-old Jaboukie Young-White.

Disney describes "Strange World" as: "Jake Gyllenhaal lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission."

Young-White – who is best known for being a correspondent on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" – voices the character named "Jaeger." Young-White – who is openly gay himself – stars as a gay 16-year-old who has a "boy crush" on another young boy named "Daizo."

Emmy Award-winning producer Matthieu Saghezchi saw a scene from the movie at the Annecy 2022 International Film Festival in southeast France, and called it "very cute."

Saghezchi wrote on Twitter, "It features the first openly gay teen romance in a Disney feature!"

"The scene describes the son being very shy in front of his boy crush, and his dad comes in and says, 'So nice to meet you! my son talks about you all the time,' and further embarrasses his son very cute," tweeted Saghezchi with the hashtag "Representation Matters."

Variety details a scene from the upcoming Disney movie, "Walt Disney screened three sequences from 'Strange World.' In the first, Ethan flirts with heartthrob Diazo while friends from school look on, teasing in a friendly and warm-hearted way. Much to Ethan’s chagrin, his dad Searcher soon joins in, embarrassing his son with an overeager show of acceptance."

Inside the Magic – a website devoted to covering Disney news – noted, "However, as the character Daizo was not announced as part of the key voice cast, it’s safe to assume that their romance might take a bit of a backseat to the fantastical happenings, adventure, and family drama taking center stage."

Disney is still contending with controversy stemming from a same-sex kissing scene in the animated film "Lightyear." The animated children's movie was banned in 14 countries because of the LGBTQ content.

"Lightyear" failed to attract families – only 38% of viewers were families, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The lack of families resulted in the animated movie reeling in $50.6 million in its opening weekend instead of the expected box office returns of $70 to $85 million.

"Strange World"– which is not yet rated – is scheduled to open on Nov. 23.
