Video shows shirtless, shoeless cop breaking into residence before homeowner fatally shoots him in self-defense: Sheriff

More details have emerged in the case of a Georgia homeowner who fatally shot a decorated off-duty Atlanta police officer who reportedly broke into the homeowner's residence early in the morning last week.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said surveillance video shows the officer — who's shirtless and shoeless — breaking into the residence just after 5 a.m. Friday before the homeowner fatally shot him in self-defense.

The sheriff's office said when the homeowner slightly cracked the door to see what was going on, Horton forcibly rushed inside and knocked the homeowner to the ground.

You can view video of the incident here. The sheriff's office said in a Monday night news release that it released more information and the video to combat false claims about the incident.

Atlanta Police Officer Aubree Horton arrived at a home in the 8000 block of Orkney Way in Winston, the sheriff's office said. Winston is about a half hour west of Atlanta.

The video shows Horton yelling and running in the darkness before arriving at the door of the home. He slams his body against the door and yells, "Help me!" He backs away from the door and yells, "Kill me!" before slamming his body into the door again. The video shows him sitting down, and the homeowner can be heard asking through the door, "Who are you?"

Horton then says, "I love you. No, just kill me," before a porch light turns on. Video shows him cry out again and forcefully lie his back upon the porch. Horton then stands up again near the door as the homeowner is heard continuing to try communicating with him, and then the video ends.

The sheriff's office said some portions of video were redacted and will be available when the case is closed. The redacted portions include the sound of the fatal shot, an officer’s response to the home, and video of the homeowner minimally dressed when speaking to the officer.

The sheriff's office said the homeowner's wife had just left for work shortly before the incident — but while on her way to work she received multiple notifications from her Ring doorbell camera, saw the situation unfolding, and called 911.

Her husband was inside the home and in bed when he heard the commotion outside, the sheriff's office said. In addition, the sheriff's office emphasized that the couple in 2021 endured an attempted burglary during which their back door, which leads to their bedroom, was kicked open around 4 a.m. while they were asleep in bed. The incident led the homeowner to enhance security measures, including installing cameras and reinforcing exterior doors.

On Friday morning after he was awakened, the husband wasn't sure if his wife had departed for work, and he was concerned for her safety and called out for her as he armed himself and approached the front door, the sheriff's office said, adding that he also feared his wife could be in danger with the intruder outside their home.

The sheriff's office said when the homeowner slightly cracked the door to see what was going on, Horton forcibly rushed inside and knocked the homeowner to the ground. Fearing for his life and in defense of his home, the homeowner fired a single shot and fatally wounded Horton inside the residence, the sheriff's office said.

More from the sheriff's office:

A Douglas County patrol officer who lives nearby and was about to leave for work, heard the commotion, and rushed to assist. Investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene and were initially unable to identify Horton, who was found without identification and wearing no shirt or shoes. His identity was later confirmed using a portable fingerprint scanner, and further investigation revealed that he lived in close proximity to the incident location.

It was later confirmed that Horton was an Atlanta Police Officer. We coordinated with the Atlanta Police Department to ensure proper notifications were made to his family, and that APD had time to prepare their own statements before releasing that information.

The sheriff's office said it's working closely with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, and "after reviewing the available facts, we are both confident that no charges will be filed against the homeowner."

Horton was selected as Investigator of the Year at the Atlanta Police Foundation's 20th Annual 'Crime Is Toast' Awards on Sept. 24.

The sheriff's office also dispelled rumors that a captain with the sheriff's office is the homeowner. The sheriff's office also said, "There is no truth to the claim that Officer Horton was involved in a domestic disturbance, or that any family member of his sought refuge at the home. Horton was completely unknown to the homeowner."

In addition, the sheriff's office said it cannot release a full report until toxicology results come back "which could take several months."

WAGA-TV, citing authorities, previously reported that Horton also lived in the St. Andrews Country Club neighborhood — about a half-mile from the crime scene — and may have been experiencing a mental health episode or under the influence of narcotics.

Atlanta police confirmed in a statement that Horton — who had been with the department since November 2015 and most recently was assigned to the Fugitive Unit — was off duty at the time of the incident, the station said.

Horton was selected as Investigator of the Year at the Atlanta Police Foundation's 20th Annual "Crime Is Toast" Awards on Sept. 24.

Surveillance video of Kentucky judge getting fatally shot in his chambers is shown during accused sheriff's hearing

Surveillance video of a Kentucky judge getting fatally shot in his chambers last month was shown during a hearing in the case of the sheriff accused of killing him.

Spectators cried out in the Morgan County courtroom as the video played last week, WDKY-TV reported.

'Everything seemed fine between them. There was no clue that anything was wrong at all.'

You can view the surveillance clip of the shooting here; it omits the actual shots being fired, and it's included in a larger video report about the shooting.

Former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines appeared before a judge last Tuesday afternoon for a probable cause hearing, WDKY said. State police said Stines, 43, fatally shot District Judge Kevin Mullins in his courthouse chambers in Whitesburg on Sept. 19.

Image source: Letcher County Sheriff's Office Facebook page (left); letchercounty.ky.gov (right)

Stines turned himself in after the shooting and was charged with first-degree murder, the New York Times reported, citing police.

Stines — who's accused of shooting Mullins eight times — pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

Kentucky State Police Detective Clayton Stamper testified that the full video of the shooting shows Stines using his own phone to make multiple calls, then using the judge’s phone to make a call, the Louisville Courier Journal reported, adding that the shooting followed.

Stamper testified that the calls were to Stines’ daughter, the Courier Journal said. Stamper added that the phones have been sent to forensic teams for examination, the Courier Journal noted, adding that the daughter’s phone has not been examined. Stamper also said the phone number of Stines' daughter had been saved in the judge's phone and was called before the shooting, the Courier Journal reported.

However, Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart told WDKY in a separate story that contrary to how it was stated in court, investigators won’t know if the number of Stines' daughter was saved in Mullins’ phone until forensic reports come back in a few weeks. But the call log reportedly showed her number had been called prior to the shooting, the station noted.

The shooting is particularly curious since Stines and Mullins reportedly had been decades-long friends. What's more, the pair went to lunch at the Streetside Grill & Bar on Main Street just hours before the shooting, the Daily Mail reported.

A restaurant employee told the outlet that Stines and Mullins ordered their usual lunch — both having chicken wings with salad.

"Everything seemed fine between them. There was no clue that anything was wrong at all," an employee said. "You wouldn't have guessed there was the slightest problem."

A woman who reportedly works for the Letcher County Sheriff’s Office also gave her phone to investigators for examination, WDKY said, adding that Stamper testified that she was one of Stines’ employees and believed she’d received text messages from Stines that noted what occurred at lunch and led to the shooting.

Under cross-examination, Stamper said that when Stines "was taken into custody, I was told by one of the other officers that were there that he made the comment, ‘They’re trying to kidnap my wife and kid,'" WDKY added.

Stines' lawyer also argued that the charges against his client should be lowered to manslaughter given Stamper’s testimony claiming the shooting was the result of “extreme emotional disturbance" and there's no evidence showing the shooting was planned.

Court documents indicated that the defense established probable cause in last Tuesday’s hearing, and the case is set to be heard by a grand jury, WDKY reported.

Thugs tackle DC woman, spray mace in her face, apparently hold knife to her side, steal her iPhone — yet she says 'I love DC'

Doorbell camera video caught the moment when three individuals chased and tackled a woman in northwest Washington, D.C., over the weekend, sprayed mace in her face, apparently held a knife to her side, and stole her iPhone and other belongings.

Yet the 26-year-old victim told WTTG-TV after the attack that "I love D.C." and that she has no plans to move out of the city.

What are the details?

The woman was walking on 2nd Street Northwest just before midnight Sunday when she saw a black sedan pull up, after which three people got out and began running toward her, Fox News reported, citing a police report the cable news network said it obtained.

Video captured the moment when the victim was running away from the trio on a sidewalk — but they easily caught up to her, shoved her so hard that she fell to the ground, and then they gathered around her as she screamed.

Here's part of the video; based on the accompanying audio, it appears that at least two of the attackers could be females:

— (@)

WTTG, citing the police report, said the trio stole her wallet with her debit and credit cards, her ID, and her insurance card. The station added that they also demanded she unlock her iPhone, which they also stole.

"I'm definitely feeling shaken up," the woman told WTTG Monday. "Just general feelings of being unsafe, like, in my neighborhood. I just feel, like, personally targeted and sort of violated."

When the station asked her if she's considering moving out of the city over the trauma of her experience, the woman replied, "No, I love D.C. It just makes me sad that this is going to change how I experience D.C. and how I interact with my neighborhood and my space around me."

WTTG said detectives are searching for the suspects and asking anyone with information to contact them.

While the station said the victim was left "crawling back to her home" after the attack, the end of the complete video of the attack — shown in WTTG's video report below — appears to depict the victim rising to her feet and walking back down the sidewalk.

Horrifying video shows shoplifter douse Bay Area store clerk with kerosene then set him ablaze

Surveillance footage has emerged showing a horrific incendiary attack that left a store clerk in California's Bay Area grievously injured.

The victim of the Sept. 22 attack, who identified himself only as Suraj for fear of reprisals, told KPIX-TV that he has seen his share of criminality in the five years he has worked at Appian Food and Liquor in El Sobrante, but nothing quite like this. Now, the mirror will serve as a constant reminder of the lawlessness now affecting much of the Democrat-run state.

Suraj's coworkers warned him ahead of his shift that a serial shoplifter had made multiple trips to the store to steal lighter fluid. Sure enough, the 38-year-old suspect, later identified by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office as Kendall Burton, returned to the store, apparently ready to once again take advantage of California's Proposition 47, which effectively decriminalized thefts under $950 in 2014.

Suraj can be seen in the surveillance footage confronting the homeless shoplifter while his coworker arms himself with a baseball bat. Before his coworker is able to close the distance and start swinging, the shoplifter douses the victim with lighter fluid then sets him ablaze.

"He just splashed lighter fluid on my face, and I was so scared that moment," he told KPIX. "I tried to cover his hand, but I don’t know. I don’t remember. He just lit the fire on me, you know."

Despite the flames consuming his flesh, Suraj nevertheless managed to get to the bathroom and splash himself with water.

The footage shows the attacker casually resume his thievery before Suraj's coworker finally tees off on him with the baseball bat.

— (@)

Suraj survived the attack with second- and third-degree burns all over his face, neck, chest, and shoulder and has been hospitalized at San Francisco’s Saint Francis Memorial Hospital ever since.

The pain is "terrible," he told KPIX, noting that "when we clean the wound, it's like over 10."

"I'm still in a trauma right now, me, my family," added Suraj, who reportedly requires multiple surgeries.

His wife, Sabeena, started a GoFundMe campaign to help their family through Suraj's recovery.

Kendall is being held without bail and faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon, battery, arson, and robbery. It's unclear whether he'll ultimately face justice for his alleged crimes, since Contra Costa County's Democrat district attorney is Diana Becton, a radical leftist whose 2022 campaign received roughly $1 million in funding from George Soros, reported the Daily Mail.

Since Becton first assumed office in 2017, crime has been an issue for the area.

While she rushed to charge protesters who defaced a BLM mural in 2020 with a hate crime, Becton issued internal guidelines in June 2020, encouraging prosecutors to consider whether looters "need[ed]" the stolen goods.

Parents accuse American Airlines flight attendant of hiding camera in bathroom to record teen daughter, share 'disturbing' photo

Parents have accused an American Airlines flight attendant of planting a hidden camera inside the plane's bathroom to record their teen daughter. The family has shared a photo of the hidden camera as purported evidence of the alleged crime.

The family was on American Airlines flight #1441 on Sept. 2, traveling from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Boston, Massachusetts.

Massachusetts State Police troopers and members of the FBI responded to a "potential criminal act" aboard a flight, according to WFXT. The Massachusetts State Police said the alleged criminal act happened mid-flight, therefore falling under the authority of federal law enforcement. An FBI spokesperson confirmed that federal agents investigated the situation but did not release any further details.

An American Airlines spokesperson previously said, "We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priorities."

WSOC-TV reported that the incident involved a "juvenile, a flight attendant, and a cell phone."

The unnamed father of the minor told Fox News this week that his daughter went to the coach bathroom on the plane, but a male flight attendant approached her and allegedly said, "You can use the bathroom up in first class, it’ll be quicker."

The flight attendant reportedly stopped the 14-year-old girl before she went into the bathroom and said, "Let me go in, I need to get in there and wash my hands. We're about to collect garbage."

The teen allegedly said that the man was in the bathroom for about a minute before exiting. He purportedly told the teenager that the bathroom seat was broken.

The juvenile purportedly entered the bathroom and saw that there was a handwritten sign that read: "SEAT BROKEN."

The minor allegedly used the bathroom. However, when she got up, she reportedly noticed an iPhone attached to the toilet seat that was mostly hidden behind the sign.

The teenager then took a photo of the hidden cell phone, which shows the light on the camera.

— (@)

The male flight attendant immediately went inside the lavatory after the teen exited, according to the girl.

The teenager reportedly told her mother about the hidden camera phone in the bathroom.

The mother went to the first-class bathroom and allegedly warned a female passenger, "Don't go in there. My daughter's just been in there, there's a camera in there."

The mother said she went inside the bathroom, but the cell phone was gone.

The father allegedly confronted the male flight attendant about the incident, and his face "went white" when he showed him the photo of the hidden cell phone.

The concerned parents reportedly informed other flight attendants, who then told the captain.

Authorities were at Boston Logan International Airport when the plane landed.

The family told Fox News that it was "very surprising" that they had "never heard a word" from American Airlines.

The father told the outlet, "One of the things you shouldn't have to worry about is that a member of the flight crew, who you're legally obligated to follow their instructions and who are trusted with your safety, that they're going to target one of your kids and obtain child pornography on a plane. I mean, it's just it blows your mind."

"I think as a teenage girl, she's embarrassed. I think it's, I mean, it's hard to imagine a more intimate violation of privacy than this," he continued. "And I mean, I think it's obvious what that setup was meant to film. And I think, it's just, it's disgusting."

No arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

American Airlines did not respond to a request for comment from the New York Post.

Watch the moment TSA agents are allegedly caught on video stealing passengers' valuables

Surveillance video has been released to the public showing Transportation Security Administration agents in Florida allegedly stealing valuables from passengers during security screenings at Miami International Airport.

The state attorney's office released several video clips this week of TSA agents appearing to remove items belonging to travelers from security bins. Security footage shows a TSA agent seemingly reaching into the pocket of a small Louis Vuitton bag after unzipping it. He appears to take something out of the pocket, place it on the side of the bin, and then take the item from the tray farther down on the conveyor belt before it goes through the X-ray machine at the Miami International Airport's E security checkpoint.

Another incident caught on video shows two TSA agents reportedly working together to steal belongings from a black bag. One agent appears to unzip a pocket of the bag, and then the second agent allegedly removes something from the bag and puts it in his pants pocket.

The two TSA agents – 33-year-old Labarrius Williams and 20-year-old Josue Gonzalez – were arrested in July. They are facing grand theft charges, according to WTVJ.

Charges were dropped against a third suspect.

According to the arrest report, the TSA agents would "distract passengers as they were being screened, to steal monies from their belongings."

The TSA provided the Miami-Dade Police Department with surveillance video of Gonzalez and Williams "removing $600 from a passenger's wallet, while the passenger was in the screening process," the police report stated.

WTVJ reported, "Gonzalez was accepted into a state program where if he successfully completes it, his charges will get dropped. For the next six months, Gonzalez must pay $700 to the two victims involved and he must do 25 hours of community service and give up his airport security credentials."

The TSA said the agents had been removed from the screening line pending an investigation.

The TSA said in a statement:

TSA has removed the officers from screening duties pending completion of the investigation and administrative actions. The Transportation Security Administration holds its Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to the highest professional and ethical standards and has no tolerance for misconduct in the workplace. We actively and aggressively investigated these allegations of misconduct and presented our findings to the Miami Dade Police Department, and are working closely with them. Any employee who fails to meet our fundamental ethical standards is held accountable.

Former Miami-Dade Police Major Ignacio Alvarez gave passengers advice for securing their belongings during the security process at airports.

Alvarez told WFOR-TV, "Before I reach the security area, I take off my watch, my ring, my wallet and put it inside my bag and I never lose sight of my bag. After I clear security I go through my bag and get everything back out. I get my wallet, I get my watch, I get my phone, I get my cash, and put it back in my pocket to make sure nothing is missing."

Tucker Carlson says Jan. 6 footage 'demolishes' claims of insurrection

On Monday night's episode of his show on the Fox News Channel, conservative commentator Tucker Carlson aired some of the surveillance footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has granted Carlson access to the video. Carlson noted during his show on Monday that producers had enjoyed "unfettered access" to the surveillance footage.

While media outlets, Democrats, and some Republicans have described the events of Jan. 6 as an "insurrection," Carlson asserted that the footage "demolishes that claim."

Some of the footage shows police officers near Jacob Chansley, widely referred to as the "QAnon Shaman," whose image has become ubiquitous in the wake of the Jan. 6 episode. Chansley was arrested on January 9, 2021, according to the Justice Department.

Carlson also aired footage showing Officer Brian Sicknick walking in the Capitol, and Carlson claimed that the January 6 Committee had been aware that the man had been "walking normally ... after he was supposedly murdered by Trump supporters."

\u201cNew footage debunks the previously released Josh Hawley tape by the Jan. 6 Committee:\n\n"The surveillance footage we reviewed shows that famous clip was a sham, edited deceptively by the January 6th Committee. The clip was propaganda, not evidence. The actual videotape."\u201d
— TheBlaze (@TheBlaze) 1678155579

On the heels of the Jan. 6 episode, the House voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump. The Senate did not vote on the matter until Trump had already departed from office, but when it did vote, Trump was acquitted when the number of senators who voted to convict fell below the threshold necessary for a conviction.

Chilling video shows man kidnapping a 14-year-old girl in Los Angeles, suspect accused of raping teen in public restroom

Surveillance camera video shows a California man allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old girl in a Los Angeles neighborhood. The suspect is accused of sexually assaulting the teen in a public restroom.

Chilling video shows a man walking closely with the teen girl down a street in El Sereno on Tuesday. Video recorded by a closed-circuit television camera shows the suspect with his left arm draped over the girl's shoulder and neck while they walked down Klamath Street. His right hand is near the teen's abdomen – possibly pointing a weapon at the girl.

The suspect – identified by police as 27-year-old Edward William Banks from Los Angeles – allegedly forced the 14-year-old girl into a public restroom at El Sereno Park. Banks is accused of raping the teen in the restroom.

The Los Angeles Police Department said, "The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and forced the victim into a bathroom. The suspect then proceeded to sexually assault the victim."

The suspect fled the park in an unknown direction after the alleged child sex abuse.

On Tuesday night, Banks was arrested by police less than a mile from the alleged crime scene of the sexual abuse. Local residents tipped off detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division after the LAPD released surveillance video of Banks to the public, according to KTLA.

Banks was charged with aggravated kidnapping to commit rape. His bail has been set at $1 million.

As of Oct. 8, there have been 1,063 rape attacks in Los Angeles in 2022, according to LAPD data. There were only 198 arrests for rape this year.

Total violent crimes are up by more than 11% since 2020.

Progressive Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has faced criticism over his soft-on-crime governance.

On the first day of taking office in December 2020, Gascón immediately eliminated cash bail and banned prosecutors from seeking enhanced prison sentences.

There have been efforts to recall Gascón, but they have all failed. The latest recall effort in August fell short because there were not enough valid signatures to get on the ballot.

The Recall District Attorney George Gascón Committee claimed this week that valid signatures were rejected and voter rolls were inflated.

"The initial review of invalidated signatures demonstrates the Registrar’s counting process was seriously flawed, resulting in substantial errors, the wrongful invalidation of many valid signatures, and the disenfranchisement of thousands of Los Angeles County Voters," the committee said in a statement released on Monday.

Watch: Florida man opens fire at gas station after fistfight, pickup truck speeds away from shooting

Shocking video shows the moment that a Florida man opened fire on a pickup truck at a gas station in Panama City Beach.

At 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, a fistfight erupted at a gas station in Panama City Beach. The brawl was reportedly started after two men in a pickup truck told several occupants of a sedan to "leave the girls alone." The men in the sedan had reportedly made comments to women walking in the parking lot.

A man is seen on surveillance video taking a wild swing at a man near a sedan in the parking lot of the gas station. The man barely dodges the punch aimed at his head. The assailant then punches the victim in the back.

The man from the truck then violently punches another man on the front passenger side of the sedan. The man keeps swinging his fists until his friend in the pickup truck comes over to break up the fight. The two men then get in the pickup truck.

A woman in the front passenger seat of the sedan gets out the car and approaches the pickup truck. She is holding a handgun. The second man who was punched gets up from the pavement and takes the gun away from the woman.

The driver of the pickup truck shoves the woman away. Meanwhile, the man with the gun points the firearm at the man who assaulted him.

The surveillance video released by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office shows a Florida man firing eight shots at the pickup truck as it speeds out of the gas station parking lot.

The two men in the pickup truck were struck by the gunfire. The victims suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

The sedan then flees the crime scene – even leaving some of the passengers that were in the car when they arrived at the gas station.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office identified the shooter as Tighree Thomas, 43. Thomas was later arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and shooting Into an occupied vehicle, according to the Panama City News Herald.

His wife – 47-year-old Norma Jean Thomas – was charged with principal to two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and principal to shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The couple were taken to the Bay County Jail.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.

"Investigators are now working to charge Benjamin Lau, 28, from Havana, Florida, with battery," deputies wrote in a news release. "Lau is the man in the video seen exiting the truck he was in and initiating a physical confrontation with Tighree Thomas before the shooting. This action is what led to Lau being charged with battery."

Video: Black-clad gunman opens fire at man on Philly street corner in broad daylight, takes off in getaway SUV

A black-masked gunman covered head to toe in black clothing — save for purple gloves — was caught on video opening fire at a man on a Philadelphia street corner in broad daylight and then taking off in a waiting getaway SUV.

What are the details?

Police said the suspect — a black male with a thin build wearing a black balaclava-style mask, black hoody, black sweatpants, black Under Armour sneakers, and purple latex gloves — opened fire at a 34-year-old black man around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of North 41st Street and West Lancaster Avenue in the west side of the city.

Surveillance video shows the suspect hopping out of what police said is a blue Hyundai Santa Fe — possibly a 2020 — with a MyFlorida.com license plate. The suspect then ran toward the sidewalk with his gun drawn.

He appeared to be aiming at the victim who had been sitting on a milk crate in front of the corner store, as the below opposite-angle image seems to show:

In his attempt to get away, the victim crashed into a red scooter, fell to the sidewalk, reached for a door handle, and ran into the store.

The gunman — who previously appeared to have trouble discharging his firearm — headed to the same door and appeared to open fire.

The gunman tripped over the scooter as he ran off, after which what appears to be the gun's extended magazine was dislodged and flew into the street.

The gunman attempted to look for it — flipping the scooter over — and then gave up and ran to the same SUV that dropped him off as the victim ran down the sidewalk in the opposite direction.

The gunman appeared to open fire at the victim before getting into the SUV. The driver then sped off, apparently continuing down North 41st Street.

What happened to the victim?

Police said the victim was shot in both legs and transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect was still wanted Thursday. Police said those with information can submit tips via telephone or text: 215.686.TIPS (8477). Tips also can be left anonymously on an electronic form, police said, adding that all tips will be confidential.
