'I like teenage girls! ... It's not wrong': Man who stalked, raped 14-year-old girl — and used pliers to pull off her braces — sentenced to life in federal prison

A Michigan man who stalked and raped a 14-year-old girl — and pulled off her braces with pliers after enticing her to run away from her Texas home — was sentenced to life in federal prison Thursday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported, citing U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad Meacham.

What's the background?

A federal jury in June convicted 22-year-old Thomas John Boukamp on 16 counts, the paper said: one count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual conduct, one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, one count of enticement of a minor, two counts of receipt of child pornography, 10 counts of production and attempted production of child pornography, and one count of cyberstalking.

Boukamp met the child — identified in court as Jane Doe — on the instant messaging platform Discord when she was just 13, the Star-Telegram said, citing federal authorities. They exchanged messages — including some detailing threats to hurt the young girl's family if she disclosed their “relationship" — and Boukamp later brought her to Michigan, the paper reported.

Once she was in Michigan, Boukamp kept Jane Doe in his home where he sexually assaulted her, forcibly removed her braces with pliers, strangled her, and hit her, the Star-Telegram said.

The girl's father testified in court that when she ran away to Michigan, his terrified daughter brought her baby blanket with her, the paper added.

“This man stalked and sexually assaulted a 14-year-old, then had the gall to claim in federal court that their so-called ‘relationship’ was consensual,” Meacham said in a Thursday news release, the Star-Telegram said. “The child, who bravely faced her abuser in court, asserted in no uncertain terms that his advances were unwelcome. By law, 14-year-olds simply cannot consent to sexual contact with adults. We are immensely proud of this child and hope this sentence brings some solace to her and her family."

'I like teenage girls!'

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors introduced as evidence a recorded jailhouse phone call in which Boukamp said he wouldn't apologize for “quote unquote raping a 14-year-old," the paper reported.

“I like teenage girls! They don’t like that I like that,” Boukamp said of federal agents and prosecutors, according to the Star-Telegram. “I frankly don’t care what the morality of this current time and place says. It’s not wrong. There’s nothing wrong about it. And they’re not going to ever convince me of its wrongness. So up theirs. I hate this nation.”

When Boukamp was reminded that authorities were monitoring his jailhouse phone calls, he threatened, “If you’re listening to this, yeah, your family is going to die," the paper reported.

The girl’s father submitted a statement to the court describing his daughter's continuing trauma, the Star-Telegram added: “Her childhood was ended too soon. He took that from her. She struggles with her self-esteem. I don’t know if she’ll ever be able to truly love herself again … We hope that she can be okay. We hope that she can make it through this. We know that she will never be the same. We know that she will never get her innocence back.”

U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix issued Boukamp's sentence, the paper said.

Mother of 13-year-old alleged rape victim is charged with helping 35-year-old accused rapist avoid arrest

The Washington state mother of a 13-year-old alleged rape victim was charged last week with helping the 35-year-old accused rapist avoid arrest.

What are the details?

The accused rapist was arrested last week on eight felony sexual abuse charges in relation to two 2021 incidents during which he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl, the Chronicle reported.

The girl’s 34-year-old mother also was arrested last week for first-degree rendering criminal assistance for allegedly helping the man avoid arrest, the paper said, adding that both adults live in Centralia, which is about 90 minutes south of Seattle.

The Chronicle said it wasn't naming the defendants in order to protect the victim's identity.

Police began investigations on Feb. 2, 2021, after responding to a Centralia address for an unrelated dispute, and the alleged victim said she'd been raped, the paper said, citing court documents.

Law enforcement sent the victim’s clothing to a crime lab, which located semen on the crotch of her pants, the Chronicle said. The crime lab on March 24, 2022, said "lab results revealed strong support” for the accused man contributing to the fluid, the paper reported, citing court documents.

Police tried to contact the accused man on May 24, “but no one came to the door despite loud and extended knocking,” the paper said, citing court documents. Officers returned to the residence the next day, and the female defendant answered the door, the paper said.

When she was told of probable cause to arrest the accused man and asked to have him come outside, the woman reportedly “advised that he had been gone for a ‘while’ and that she did not know where” he was, the paper reported.

The woman allegedly said she was home when police knocked the day before but claimed she'd been "sleeping and didn’t hear the knocks, despite the fact that neighbors in the building could hear the knocking,” the paper said, citing court documents.

After several more unsuccessful attempts to locate the accused man at the address, police on Thursday morning “knocked on the door of the residence extensively and loudly, rang the doorbell rapidly on many occasions, announced police and specifically yelled for both [the male and female defendant] to come to the door, but no one answered,” the paper said, citing court documents.

A number of neighbors reportedly told officers they had seen the accused man staying with the woman at the residence, the paper said. They also said he would depart the address “mostly at night to avoid being detected," the paper said, citing court documents.

The property manager later told police he'd informed the woman several times over the last few months that the man in question “was not to be living there," the paper said.

Caught

Around noon Oct. 6, a neighbor told officers the accused man was in a vehicle heading south toward Harrison Avenue — after which officers stopped the vehicle and found the man in the back seat and the woman in the front passenger seat, the paper said, citing court documents.

The man and woman were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail, the paper said, adding that the man's bail was set at $250,000 and the woman's bail was set at $25,000.

Of the eight felony charges against the man, two carry maximum penalties of life in prison, four carry maximum penalties of 10 years in prison, and two carry maximum penalties of five years in prison, the paper said.

As for the woman, first-degree rendering criminal assistance carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, the paper said.

Arraignments for both adults are scheduled for Thursday, the paper said.

16-year-old girl screams for help when man on parole allegedly tries to sexually assault her in grocery store restroom — then customers, employees come to her rescue

A man on parole allegedly tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl in a grocery store restroom Sunday afternoon in southern California, but after the victim and her mother screamed for help, customers and store employees came to the rescue.

What are the details?

The suspect allegedly followed a girl into a restroom of a Stater Bros. store in South Whittier, locked the door, and attempted to assault her, the Los Angeles Times reported. South Whittier is an unincorporated community about 40 minutes southeast of Los Angeles.

Sgt. Jose Ramos said the suspect "pushed the victim and got on top of her and attempted to sexually assault her on the ground," KTTV-TV reported. Ramos is with the Special Victims Bureau of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

But the girl fought back and screamed for help, KTTV said, adding that her mother heard what was happening and also began screaming.

"The screams were just terrifying," a witness told the station. "She was actually screaming saying, ‘Help, help! I need help! My daughter’s in the bathroom with a guy!’"

Hearing the screams, customers and employees took action and made their way into the restroom, the Times said.

Three men pinned the suspect to the restroom floor and held him there until law enforcement arrived, LASD told KTTV. The incident was reported around 2 p.m., the LASD told the Times.

The girl was treated for injuries at a hospital, the paper said.

Who is the suspect?

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office identified the suspect as 38-year-old Steven Magdaleno, the Times said, adding that he was charged Tuesday with felony assault to commit rape, false imprisonment by violence, and attempted escape from custody, along with a misdemeanor charge of giving false information to a police officer.

Magdaleno, who was wanted on a warrant for violating parole, gave deputies his cousin’s name, Ramos told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

He has prior convictions for identity theft, possession of methamphetamine, and being under the influence of a controlled substance in Los Angeles County, the Tribune reported, citing court records.

Magdaleno is homeless, hangs out in the parking lot of the grocery store, and his last known address was in Whittier, Ramos added to the Tribune.

The Times said Magdaleno pleaded not guilty Wednesday and is being held on $410,000 bail.

DA George Cascón speaks

“It is appalling that someone tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl in the middle of the day in a grocery store restroom,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a release, according to the Times. “Brazen crimes like these are shocking to the entire community because the girl and her family should have felt safe in that space.”

Gascón commended the employees and customers who took action for showing bravery and courage — and cautioned that others may have fallen victim to the suspect, the Times said: “I want to encourage anyone who has been sexually assaulted to report these crimes and get the help they need to heal from this devastating trauma."

The sheriff’s department asked the public to help identify possible additional victims, the Times added, noting that the sheriff department’s Special Victims Bureau can be reached at (877) 710-5273 or specialvictimsbureau@lasd.org.

'I hope you get raped': 18-year-old pro-life volunteer says woman punched, shoved, cursed her out after she knocked on door to promote anti-abortion vote in Kansas

An 18-year-old pro-life volunteer was punched, shoved, and cursed out by a woman after the volunteer knocked on the door of a home to promote a high-profile anti-abortion vote in Kansas, Students for Life Action said.

What are the details?

The outlet said the volunteer — Grace Hartsock — was going door to door Sunday in Overland Park to let residents know about Tuesday's ballot measure to amend the state constitution and declare there is no right to an abortion in Kansas.

At one home, the woman at the door told Hartsock, “No, I’m sorry; I don’t think you want to talk to us," Students for Life said.

Hartsock noted to the organization that she politely thanked the woman for her time and began to leave the property when another female began yelling and cursing from inside the home, the outlet said.

“Don’t apologize to her, Mom," the other female yelled, according to Students for Life.

With that, the screaming woman ran out of the house and began chasing Hartsock and yelling at her, after which she shoved Hartsock in the chest with both hands and then began hitting her in the head with closed fists, the outlet said.

Hartsock tried to protect herself and run away, and the attacker's mother told her daughter to stop the violence, Students for Life said.

Hartsock noted in a police report that the woman also threw a piece of food at her, hitting her in the face, and followed her down the street while screaming curses and statements such as, “I hope you get raped” and “I hope you get run over by a car.”

"Since she was struck, the student is experiencing headaches and body soreness, and Students for Life Action has connected her with an attorney," SFL spokeswoman Kristi Hamrick told Fox News. "She and Students for Life Action are considering a legal response."

Hartsock noted to the organization that "it's unfathomable that the pro-choice movement claims to be ‘pro-woman’ and yet attacks women who don’t agree with their narrative. It’s not surprising to me that a person who advocates for violence in the womb wouldn’t hesitate to attack a pro-life woman like myself.”

Dad confronts violent thug for stealing his 13-year-old daughter's Canadian flag amid Ottawa protests. Culprit ends up whimpering as cops handcuff him.

A dad recorded video of his confrontation with a violent man who stole a Canadian flag from his 13-year-old daughter amid continuing protests in Ottawa over the weekend.

What are the details?

According to a video from Peter van Oordt — the father of the girl in question — he, his wife, and his two children were visiting Ottawa as the protests against COVID-19 restrictions were in full swing.

He said in the clip that the man walked up behind his family while they were near city hall and snatched the flag and flagpole from his daughter and ran off hollering obscenities at them.

But van Oordt pursued the man, hit record on his phone, and captured everything that happened next — including a tense scene as another individual began pulling the flag pole from the thief, after which the crook got the upper hand and shoved him away after yelling, "Get out of my f***ing city!"

But van Oordt continued to pursue the flag thief and captured video of their on-foot chat: "Why did you steal the flag from my 13-year-old daughter?"

At one point the flag thief takes a swipe at van Oordt and steals his gloves — after apparently trying to grab his phone — and stomps on van Oordt's gloves in a slush-filled gutter.

Seconds later the flag thief comes at van Oordt, and video doesn't capture exactly what happened, as the camera was jostled around — but the crook ends up on his back atop a snowbank, moaning in pain.

Van Oordt said in his video that "I believe in peace" and that he "didn't engage with him physically" even when the flag thief went directly after him.

Eventually cops arrive after a bystander calls authorities. Van Oordt tells officers he believes the man had been drinking. Another bystander tells van Oordt he saw the whole thing and would be a witness if he needed one; another man tells police the flag thief earlier assaulted an Uber driver.

Soon cops arrest the whimpering man, who claims his ankle is broken — and admits to officers that "I took somebody's flag, that's it."

Here's the video explanation from van Oordt showing his confrontation with the flag thief as well as his commentary on it.
