Robert De Niro tapped by Biden to spread fear; says our ‘government will perish’ under Trump

Biden isn’t known for his excellent decision making, which is why it’s not surprising his administration would hold a press conference outside Donald Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan.

Not only was the choice a strange one, but the press conference was held while closing arguments were set to begin — and featured actor Robert De Niro.

The press conference also featured two police officers who were at the Capitol on January 6, Harry Dunn, who Sara Gonzales notes is a “known perjurer,” and Michael Fanone.

“Under Trump this kind of government will perish from the earth. I don’t mean to scare you, no, no, wait. Maybe I do mean to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted,” De Niro warned.

“And elections? Forget about it. That’s over, that’s done. If he gets in I can tell you right now, he will never leave. He will never leave,” he continued. “That’s why I’ve joined the Biden-Harris campaign, because the only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president.”

“You’re a liar,” Gonzales says, disturbed.

Harry Dunn also used the opportunity to spread fear, telling the audience, “The fight for a lot of us didn’t end on January 6. That evening when we went home, the fight still continues now. What happened that day was an attempt to overthrow an election.”

“Donald Trump is the greatest threat to our democracy, and the safety of communities across the country today. He has encouraged and continued to encourage political violence. We’ve been called traitors just today, we were all called traitors on January 6 for doing our job.”

Gonzales and Jaco Booyens are shocked by the display.

“Of course they’ll pull Robert De Niro. It’s the true deplorables that will stand there, and that press conference was about as dismal as a Joe Biden campaign trail,” Booyens says.

“These grandiose terms, ‘He’ll never leave,’ it’s scare tactics. And unfortunately, some Americans buy it,” he adds.

Texas attorney general launches investigation into SHADY Big Pharma

Many Americans have questioned the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is doing something about it.

Paxton has just launched an investigation into Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson to find out whether or not they engaged in gain-of-function research and misled the public regarding the vaccines.

Paxton believes if these companies misrepresented the efficacy of the vaccines, they could have violated the Deceptive Trade Practices Act in Texas.

BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales of "The News & Why It Matters" had Paxton on the show to discuss his investigation.

“We’re going to ask questions about their trials, about what they knew at the time, when they knew it, and see if they told us the truth,” Paxton explains, “or whether they misled the public about the efficacy of their vaccine.”

Gonzales asks Paxton how he plans to prove it, as she thinks “they’re not going to provide documents that maybe they have.”

“Well, the problem with them not providing the documents they have — that potentially turns into criminal action and certainly results in other risks for their company,” Paxton says.

However, that doesn’t mean the company will comply.

“They could decide ‘Hey, we don’t want to disclose information,’” he explains. “You know, usually the cover-up’s worse than the crime.”

While this could be the case, “there will be some civil penalties and it will cost them some money” if they’re honest about what they knew and did not know. If they’re caught in a lie, they could be facing criminal charges.

Paxton continues, explaining that “if they answer the questions and we find that they’ve misled the public — then we’ve got different issues that we either have to settle with them or we have to sue them to recover the damages that they’ve caused.”

Gonzales notes that if that’s the case, there’s a lot of money behind them to recover damages.

She adds that the Moderna CEO made nearly 400 million last year on his stock options and owns a reported 2.8 billion shares in the company.

Albert Borla of Pfizer made a $33 million salary last year “off the backs of the American public,” Gonzales says.

AOC vows that Texas turning blue is 'inevitable,' spars with Ted Cruz about mask mandates and dancing

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York vowed that it is "inevitable" that Texas would flip blue, and she would "make sure we unionize the hell out of this state."

On Saturday, AOC was in San Antonio to support progressive candidates – immigration attorney Jessica Cisneros in the 28th Congressional District and former Austin city council member Greg Casar in the 35th. The 28th Congressional District seat is currently occupied by Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar – who has repeatedly called out the Biden administration over their handling of the border crisis.

"Here's what's exciting about Jessica's race and Greg's race, is that if we flip Texas, we flip the country," Ocasio-Cortez said, according to My San Antonio. "...Texas turning blue is inevitable. The only question is when. We are going to fight for a living wage, we are going to make sure we unionize the hell out of this state... and we're going to make sure that not one dime is made exploitatively across any worker, especially the undocumented."

While in Texas, AOC took a shot at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over his dancing prowess. AOC shared a video of her dancing to Selena's song "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" with the caption: "Ted Cruz could never."

Cruz responded to the provocation by noting that Ocasio-Cortez was not wearing a face mask indoors while not practicing social distancing.

The Texas Republican senator added, "Only Dems can be such shameless mask hypocrites. Dance while you make the 'little people' mask up. #RulesForTheeButNotForMe."

Many online commentators referenced an AOC quote from last month. When AOC was busted maskless in Florida, she claimed that Republicans only criticize her because they're "mad they can’t date me," and used it against the progressive politician.

Earlier this month, AOC said that capitalism is "irredeemable" and that Facebook should be broken up.

Texas judge blocks arrest order for AWOL House Democrats

A state district judge in Texas issued a temporary restraining order Sunday that blocks law enforcement from arresting the House Democrats who fled the state to block a GOP-supported election security bill.

Travis County State District Judge Brad Urrutia's order will prevent Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) from "detaining, confining or otherwise restricting" the Democrats, who had abandoned the state for Washington, D.C., in July to deny a special session of the legislature a quorum and prevent Republicans from passing a bill that would strengthen voter ID requirements and ban sending unsolicited mail ballot applications to voters.

After the Democrats fled, Abbott had called for state law enforcement agencies to arrest the Democrats the moment they returned to Texas and transport them to the Capitol, where they would be forced to open the legislature for business.

On Friday, 19 House Democrats filed a lawsuit to block their arrest or detention, arguing Republicans did not have the power to "arrest their political opponents," as one of the attorneys for the Democrats put it.

According to the Texas Tribune, Urrutia, a Democrat, said that Abbott and Phelan wrongly interpreted Texas law and the rules of the state House to allow the arrest of lawmakers in response to a call for quorum. He prohibited the Republicans from detaining or restraining the Democrats in any way and also from ordering law enforcement to arrest them.

Urrutia's order will permit the Democrats to return to Texas without fear of being detained. The order will last for 14 days unless it is extended.

"Angry Republican threats to dispatch troopers to arrest, cuff, shackle, drag in, and cabin duly-elected lawmakers isn't just meant to chill our speech and impair our ability to represent our districts; it has left our families, friends, and neighbors anxious for our well-being and safety," said state Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin) said in a statement Monday.

"The men and women of the Texas House, many of whom are Black and Brown Democrats, are not animals or property to be corralled by law enforcement and cabined against our will. It is morally wrong to believe otherwise," Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) said.

The court will hear arguments on the arrest order on Aug. 20.

Last week, Abbott called for a second special session of the legislature to convene and pass the election security bill and other pieces of legislation. At least 26 of the more than 50 House Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., have said they will remain there.

The state House was unable to reach a quorum on Saturday at the start of the special session and will try again Monday.

Matthew McConaughey says he was 'dumbfounded' by Gov. Greg Abbott's decision to lift Texas' mask mandate

Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey, who's currently mulling a run for governor of Texas, on Wednesday criticized Gov. Greg Abbott (R) for lifting the state's mask mandate.

McConaughey appeared on "CBS This Morning" to discuss his charitable efforts to help Texas rebuild after February's massive snow storm. During the interview, he was asked to share his thoughts on Gov. Abbott's March 2 announcement that Texas would open 100% and that residents would no longer be required to wear masks.

"My reaction to that is ... I was a little dumbfounded by the decision," McConaughey said. "I understand 'go back to work.' What I did not understand was 'pull the mask mandate.'"

He suggested that Texans don't really have a problem with wearing face coverings to protect against COVID-19 and that the real problem is people don't like the government telling them what to do.

"I just want to remind, not only Texans, but everybody out there, it's not the mask we're afraid of, c'mon. It's the word 'mandate.' Let's not let the word 'mandate' get in the way of practical use of this little tool called a mask. It's just a small inconvenience today for more freedom tomorrow," McConaughey said.

Though Texans are no longer required to wear a mask, the actor said masking is our "choice" and said that people should "keep masking up."

"It's proven to help. We don't have much longer in this. We'll get through this. Thank you," he said.

Asked about his potential political ambitions, McConaughey reiterated that he's giving consideration to running for governor, but said he went on the program to discuss his efforts to help Texans recover from the storm.

"As I've said before, I'm giving it consideration. It's a very honorable thing to consider ... As I've said before and I'll say again now, I have to decide for me what is my category where I can be most useful in life from here?"

McConaughey and his wife Camila will host "We're Texas," a virtual benefit this Sunday to raise money to help Texans recovering from the winter storm. The benefit will feature performances from artists including Kelly Clarkson, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, and more.

The actor credited his wife with coming up with the idea.

"Camila came and knocked on my door and said, 'do you see what's happening here?'" McConaughey told CBS. "She has my back. I put my head down, gathered people to go to work."

He contacted Texas businesses, athletes, and other celebrities to recruit them to assist with the benefit.

"We're happy with where we are, with a lot of help from a lot of people, in Texas and beyond," he said.
