Male, 19, accused of hitting girlfriend's baby in head so hard that little girl had to go on ventilator. Now she's dead.

A 19-year-old Bronx male is accused of hitting his girlfriend's baby in the head, after which the 1-year-old victim had to go on a ventilator and then died about a week later, the New York Post reported.

Imani Mitchell was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition after Jerome Thomas — who was watching her on Aug. 28 — allegedly "struck the child twice on the side of the head with a 'heavy hand,'" the Post noted, citing police and prosecutors.

The neighbor added to the Post that the couple argued and fought 'every night since they moved here. ... ''F**k you ...'' and ''Get the f**k out.'' Several times she put his clothes out, but they'd be back together the same day.'

The victim suffered "extensive subdural hemorrhaging on the right side of her head resulting in swelling and intracranial pressure causing brain herniation," which necessitated surgery to remove part of her skull, the paper added, citing a criminal complaint.

Imani also was placed on a ventilator while other life-support measures were initiated, but the toddler was pronounced dead at the hospital Friday, the Post reported, adding that the New York City Police Department has ruled her death a homicide.

Thomas was arrested Aug. 29 — the day after the alleged attack — and charged with felony assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child, the paper said, citing court documents.

What's more, the suspect has been ordered to be held without bail on Rikers Island as charges against him may be upgraded pending a grand jury indictment, law enforcement sources added to the Post.

Thomas is not the victim's father, law enforcement sources told the New York Daily News.

The alleged attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. inside an apartment on Union Avenue near East 152nd Street after Imani's mother left her in Thomas' care, the Post said, citing the complaint.

LeNesha Mitchell told police that she returned from a 45-minute shopping trip and found her little girl semi-conscious and struggling to breathe with her face and head badly bruised, especially around her left eye, the Daily News added in a separate story.

Thomas' next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 18, the Post reported, citing the district attorney's office.

Neighbor Nicole LaCroix previously told the Post that the couple and the baby were new to the building.

"I spent a little time with the mother, and I guess the boyfriend one night, just because they were new to the area, and we were just showing them where some of the stores are and different things like that," LaCroix told the paper. "Being helpful, as a neighbor, because I'm a little older than the young lady."

The neighbor added to the Post, "I held the baby, you know, because we spent a little time with each other. She was playing with my phone — she was an active 1-year-old."

However, LaCroix also told the paper that her daughter heard "arguments" coming from the apartment where the couple and the toddler lived — and now she wishes she would've "stepped in and helped."

The neighbor added to the Post that the couple argued and fought "every night since they moved here. … 'F**k you ...' and 'Get the f**k out.' Several times she put his clothes out, but they'd be back together the same day."

Commenters underneath WPIX-TV's Facebook post about the toddler's death were saddened and outraged by the tragedy:

  • "This world is getting so wicked," one commenter said. "Just heartbreaking."
  • "Terrible. Too bad someone couldn't beat him to death," another user noted. "So sorry poor little child."
  • "A f**king monster did this," another commenter stated. "Cuff him."
  • Another user answered the latter commenter with the following: "Don't cuff him. Burn him."

Blaze News on Tuesday spoke to Kristina Coleman — vice president of child advocacy and mental health programs at Safe Horizon (800-621-HOPE), which helps those affected by violence — and Coleman offered advice for those who may find themselves in similar situations as the little girl's mother or the neighbor who noticed signs of trouble.

Coleman told Blaze News that "recognizing signs" is important, as an extreme situation like the attack on the little girl "usually is not something out of the blue."

"We encourage people to listen to their 'inner voice' for signs of trouble, as we have the tendency to brush things off," Coleman shared with Blaze News. She also emphasized the importance of "community support," noting that such bonds can make a difference, and that perhaps someone in the community can step in and help with something even as basic as providing last-minute childcare during a time of struggle.

Coleman also told Blaze News that it's important to know one's sources of support, whether that means family members or those from places of employment. She also emphasized how crucial communication is, adding to Blaze News that "if you see someone struggling," it's important to continue building that relationship, to listen, and to "notice" what that person might be going through.

Coleman also told Blaze News that sometimes people just "need to talk," and often in our "go go go society" we don't realize when that moment is right in front of us.

Leftist US Reps. AOC, Jamaal Bowman get ridiculed for imitating angry rappers on Bronx rally stage ahead of primary election

Far-left U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, both of New York, were ridiculed after behaving like angry hip-hop artists on a Democratic rally stage in the Bronx on Saturday.

Their cringe-worthy antics at St. Mary’s Park in Mott Haven were "a last-minute attempt" to drum up support for Bowman and his "flailing re-election bid" ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, the New York Post reported, adding that Bowman is behind moderate Democratic challenger George Latimer by double digits.

Bowman also dubbed himself 'the hip-hop congressman' in a searing rant before hollering, 'We are gonna show the f***ing AIPAC' — i.e., the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — 'the power of the motherf***ing south Bronx!'

Ocasio-Cortez — who isn't shy about dropping street lingo and accents into her leftist tirades — went all out on this day, hopping around the stage and pumping her fists as rapper Cardi B's lyrically explicit song “Enough” blasted through the speakers.

"Let's go Bronx! Are we ready? I can't hear you the Bronx, let's go!" Ocasio-Cortez hollered into the microphone. She added screams of, "Are you ready to fight? Are you ready to take this borough back?"

She also screamed, "Are you ready to win this country back? And are you ready to fight for peace on earth and ceasefire in Gaza? I don't know about y'all, but I am ready to fight!"

Bowman — who the House of Representative censured for intentionally pulling a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building before a vote on a stop-gap spending bill — soon took the stage and upped the ante on AOC's performance.

The congressman appeared more than a little imposing and intimidating, having rolled up the short sleeves on his yellow T-shirt to his shoulders, held up a stool, slammed it down, and stomped across the stage.

Bowman also dubbed himself "the hip-hop congressman" in a searing rant before hollering, "We are gonna show the f***ing AIPAC" — i.e., the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — "the power of the motherf***ing south Bronx!"

He also made reference to his "foul mouth" and then asked the adoring crowd, "What am I supposed to do? You're comin' after me! You're comin' after my family! You're comin' after ... my children! I'm not supposed to fight back? I'm not supposed to fight back? We gonna show them who the f*** we are!”

Bowman — who is staunchly for abortion rights — added, presumably in reference to the Israel-Hamas war that "we are not going to stand silent while U.S. tax dollars kills babies and women and children. My opponent supports genocide. My opponent and AIPAC are the ones destroying our democracy, and it's on us, it's on all of us to save our democracy."

While the crowd at the rally — numbering around 300, the Post said — loved Bowman's cursing and ranting, not everyone was a fan.

U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) posted on X that "the level of profanity here is so shocking as to be unbecoming of a Member of Congress. There is nothing in Jamaal Bowman’s unhinged tirade that remotely resembles the decency of the people I know and represent in the South Bronx."

As it turns out, Torres wasn't alone; both Bowman and Ocasio-Cortez turned off many:

  • "Why is [AOC] screaming like a banshee? Is this a cult? Creepy," one observer asked.
  • "AOC knows WE KNOW THEY ARE FRAUDS… people see their lies and manipulation," another commenter stated. "Look at her getting all jiggy… 'fight' talk. They need us to be fighting amongst ourselves so they can try to keep their power. WE SEE YOU ALL."
  • "Bowman's entire campaign is about violence against Jews," another user declared.
  • "Every arena of life is being taken over by people who are frustrated rap stars," another commenter quipped.

Trump rally in the Bronx a massive ‘wake-up call’ for Biden

The Bronx might be a deep blue area in a deep blue state, but that didn’t stop Trump supporters from coming out to support the former president.

Former Democratic Governor David Paterson took notice as well, calling Trump’s Bronx rally a “wake-up call” for Biden — as between 8,000 and 10,000 supporters showed up despite the rally only expecting around 3,500.

One of the attendees, a black woman, was captured on camera saying “that we absolutely must take our country back.”

She also drew attention to the “diverse group of people,” noting that what ties them all together is “our love of country.”

“Those are some fired up people,” Pat Gray laughs, after watching even more clips of the Bronx supporters.

Another supporter, a young man, told reporters that “Joe Biden’s policies have failed.”

“It’s failed us in terms of the economy, in terms of illegal immigration, in terms of the environment,” he said, adding, “These policies only hurt black people. It doesn’t help them.”

Gray is impressed, saying “Something is happening here. That’s great.”

“It’s not like 80% of blacks and Hispanics are going to vote for Donald Trump, but he’s at least doubled the numbers, according to the polls that have been conducted. It was 9%, now it’s around 18%,” Gray says.

“I’ve seen it as high as 23% among blacks who are supporting Trump now. That’s unheard of for a really long time,” he adds.

Trump fans unfurl 'Never Surrender' banner with his mug shot during national anthem at Yankee Stadium

Fans of former President Donald Trump unfurled a "Never Surrender" banner with his famous mug shot on it during the national anthem Wednesday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx; Trump is scheduled to hold a rally Thursday evening in the New York City borough.

The "Never Surrender" banner appears to have been inspired by Trump's post on X from last August, which features his mug shot taken after he surrendered at a Georgia jail on charges he tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

'I'm going to make a play for New Yorkers.'

Trump's message underneath his mug shot reads, "ELECTION INTERFERENCE" and "NEVER SURRENDER!" along with his web address. It was Trump's first X post since the social media platform, then known as Twitter, banned him on Jan. 6, 2021, in the wake of the Capitol riots.

An X video shows the banner unfurling during the national anthem — and those holding the banner quickly pulled it up when security arrived. The text on the post from the America First Warehouse reads, "Another successful drop @dioncini."

Dion Cini is a Trump supporter and self-proclaimed "professional provocateur" who has attracted controversy in the past while visually supporting Trump. Walt Disney World banned Cini from the park in 2018 for flying pro-Trump signs. A few months later in 2019, a New York City bartender was caught on video kicking out Cini for wearing a red visor displaying the phrase "Make America Great Again" — and the bartender earned a two-week suspension over his "political" actions. Later in 2019 a transgender actor was caught on video fighting Cini over a Trump sign he was holding in New York City.

'Legal version of an ankle bracelet'

Trump’s campaign said Thursday’s rally will take place at 6 p.m. in Crotona Park, which Fox News said is just blocks from the boundary line of far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district.

Ocasio-Cortez said Trump's rally is happening because of his “legal version of an ankle bracelet," The Hill noted, a reference to the headline-grabbing Stormy Daniels' trial in Manhattan he's required to attend.

“Donald Trump is broke. He needs money. He’s hosting a rally to try to con people and try to fleece them out of every dollar that they have to fund his own legal fees,” Ocasio-Cortez added, according to the outlet. “And by the way, he’s doing it in the South Bronx, not to make a point, but because he’s got court, and the man practically has the legal version of an ankle bracelet around him, and he can’t leave the five boroughs because he always has to be in court. And so it is truly an embarrassment to him.”

WABC-TV reported that labor and civil rights groups are planning to hold a counterrally in the park at the same time; a poster for that events reads, "Trump isn't welcome in the Bronx."

Some residents of the borough beg to differ, telling Fox News they're squarely behind the former president.

'They all want us to run, and we're going to run very hard in New York.'

"Senior citizens cannot walk down the street. Our children are being killed. When you go to a grocery store, you can't even buy anything anymore," Rev. Ruben Diaz Sr., president of New York's Hispanic Clergy Association, told the cable news network. "I’m a Democrat. All my life I've been a Democrat, but Democrats have used us and abused us; they think that they own us. Donald Trump is giving us an opportunity."

Last month, Trump visited the Harlem deli where a worker fatally stabbed an attacker in self-defense in 2022 — and the crowd that greeted Trump turned in a pretty loud "four more years!" A week after that, Trump shook hands and posed for photos with construction workers outside the JP Morgan Chase Building at East 48th Street and Park Avenue, WCBS reported.

"I'm going to make a play for New Yorkers. They said, I just heard, there was a very good poll that came out. Normally, a Democrat will win New York," Trump said at the time, according to the station. "Biden is the worst president in history, we have some very bad people here, but we have the greatest people and they're right behind me. They all want us to run, and we're going to run very hard in New York."

Trump on May 11 held a massive campaign rally on a Wildwood, New Jersey, beach that drew an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people.

Trump Announces First Rally In Dem Stronghold Since 2016

Trump’s announcement blamed ‘Biden’s and Democrats’ pro-criminal policies’ for the ‘incomprehensible and devastating’ surge in violent crime

Video: Mother, 10-year-old daughter repeatedly punched in random attack on Bronx subway train — while multiple people inches away do nothing to help them

An unidentified woman was caught on cellphone video repeatedly punching a mother and her 10-year-old daughter on a subway train in the Bronx while multiple people just inches away did nothing to help them.

What are the details?

Police told WNBC-TV the attack occurred Oct. 18 around 4:30 p.m. WCBS-TV reported that police just released new surveillance images of the suspect.

The 36-year-old mother and her daughter were on their way from from school and standing in a crowded northbound 5 train at the Westchester Avenue and Simpson Street station in the Longwood section, WNBC said.

Police told WNBC that's when the suspect began punching them in the face and mouth. Police said video taken by another passenger shows the woman punching the mother and daughter with a closed fist, WCBS reported.

The mother, who asked not to be identified, told WNBC she doesn't know what sparked the attack.

"She no say nothing to me, just she punch the head like crazy. Boom boom boom. No say nothing to me," the mother told WNBC and added that others on the train saw the attack take place but failed to help them.

The mother added to WNBC she didn't consider fighting back as her only mission was to shield her girl from the stranger's fists.

"Just like make the hug and say, 'No worries, mommy is here, I protect you, no worry,'" the mother added to WNBC.

What happened next?

WNBC said the attacker — described as a woman in her 40s, about about 5 feet 8 inches tall with short black hair, and last seen wearing a black jacket and black sunglasses — soon exited the train and ran off. WCBS added that the attacker is described as weighing about 215 pounds.

The mother and daughter were taken to a hospital where they were treated for their injuries, WNBC said. But the emotional fallout continues, as the mom told WNBC her little girl is still scared when she sees crowds.

Anything else?

An investigation is proceeding, WNBC said, adding that a cash reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. WCBS added that you submit a tip via the NYPD's Crime Stoppers website or via Twitter @NYPDTips and that all tips are kept confidential

Creep pushes man onto subway train tracks, runs off. But witnesses rescue victim just before train arrives at Bronx stop.

A suspect pushed a man onto the subway train tracks in the Bronx over the weekend and ran off, but witnesses rescued the victim just before a train arrived.

What are the details?

Surveillance video shows the suspect on the platform of the East 149th Street station around 11:50 a.m. Saturday as the victim — a 26-year-old man — was waiting for a northbound No. 6 train, police told the New York Post.

Initially, the suspect made a sudden move as the victim walked by in what may have been an attempt to attack the victim, but the suspect suddenly stopped and didn't go through with it.

Seconds later, after the victim walked closer to the edge of the platform, the suspect ran at the victim and shoved him from behind, causing the victim to fall upon the tracks, the Post said, citing police.

The video doesn't show the actual shove but does show the suspect running off after the deed.

What happened next?

The No. 6 train was arriving at the station at the time of the shove, but the Post said witnesses helped the victim get back up on the platform, and he wasn't struck by the incoming train.

Police said the victim injured his legs, WNBC-TV reported. The paper said he was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition.

Police released photos of the suspect and asked anyone with information about the incident to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, the Post said.

Anything else?

In October 2021, a woman was caught on surveillance video pushing another woman into a moving subway train in New York City.

While the victim didn't fall onto the tracks, she did smack her face against the side of the car before falling backward on the platform, investigators noted. WABC-TV reported that the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to her face and legs.

WABC reported that such attacks increased in 2021 compared to 2020.
