Tiger Woods plays brutal April Fools' prank on fans: 'I can't believe I am saying this'

Tiger Woods shocked his fans with rumors of a comeback before pulling the rug with a devastating April Fools' Day reveal.

Woods has not played in a tournament since July 2024 and underwent his sixth back surgery that September. This March, ESPN reported that Woods had surgery for a ruptured Achilles, keeping him out for even longer.

Despite saying "the fire still burns to compete," Woods has said his body just is not recovering like it used to from his injuries.

This made Woods' April 1 social media post all that more shocking when he revealed to fans that he would be returning just weeks after his surgery.

"I can't believe I am saying this, but a few weeks after rupturing my left Achilles, the sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber plus the explosive lifts my doctors and trainers have me ready to play the Masters next week! Can't wait! See y'all on the course," Woods wrote on X.

While some immediately recognized the date on the calendar, other fans were flying by the seat of their pants and were ready for Woods' latest comeback.

"This better not be some cruel April Fools joke," a sports reporter replied.

"Great to see people bounce back after dark moments in their lives... go for it," another fan wrote.

Some fans even got angry with Woods for potentially jumping back into such a big competition so quickly:

"Pitching up to play majors when you have not played any competitive golf is nonsense. You either going to play competitive golf before majors or you must skip majors altogether. It's painful to watch."

Woods took pity on his fans and waited just six minutes to reveal he was indeed pulling a prank.

"P.S. April Fools my Achilles is still a mess," Woods wrote with a smiley face.

Woods was last seen on the course with cameras when he played with his son in a tournament at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando in December. During the event, 15-year-old Charlie hit his first-ever hole in one on the par-3 fourth hole with his father by his side and his sister as their caddie.

Woods then taught his son that after getting a hole in one it is incumbent upon him to buy his competitors a round of drinks.

Woods' last event was the Open Championship in July 2024, which marked the fourth tournament he failed to make the cut in. That April, he placed 60th at the Masters Tournament, the only time he advanced past the cut in the five tournaments he played in that season.

'That's protocol': Tiger Woods gives son Charlie a hilarious life lesson after remarkable hole in one

Tiger Woods had a valuable lesson to pass on to his son about being a man after the youngster hit a hole in one at the PNC Championship.

The Woods father and son were playing in the tournament at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando when 15-year-old Charlie hit his first-ever hole in one on the par-3 fourth hole.

As announcers gasped, one remarked, "His father was actually not watching!"

Tiger and Charlie had to confirm that the ball indeed went in before the proud moment occurred when golf legend embraced his son.

'Round on you, bud.'

After the shot, the Woods family was caught on a hot mic with 17-year-old daughter Sam — who was the team's caddie that day — giving Charlie a lesson on what comes with success in professional golf.

"You're buying for everyone out here," Tiger told his son.

"I'm not buying," the teen responded. "I'm broke."

"You're buying," the father reiterated.

"You're buying?" Charlie's older sister said, provoking him.

"He has to buy," Tiger continued. "That's protocol for making a hole in one."

Charlie insisted that he's "broke" and that it would be "a lot of people" whom he has to buy for, but his father didn't care.

Not fazed, Tiger stated, "Round on you, bud."

After the tournament, Charlie said that his time with his dad had been by far the most fun he has ever had on a golf course.

"It's not even close," Charlie said, per ESPN. "It was awesome having Dad there. That was so much fun. It was just a perfect 7-iron, little cut in there. Of course, never got to see it go in. So that sucks. But that's all right."

Tiger called it "the thrill of a lifetime" to be able to have the moment with his son.

"His first hole in one, Sam on the bag, just our family and friends," Tiger said. "That's what this event is about. It's about bonding and family."

Spirits were high in the Woods family, with Tiger even pictured hugging his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, after the conclusion of the event.

Good vibes didn't mean a tournament victory, however. Bernhard Langer hit an 18-foot eagle to beat team Woods with his own son, 24-year-old Jason.

The 67-year-old has won back-to-back PNC Championships with his two sons as partners.

Tiger commented, "I know we didn't win, but it was the fact that we competed. No one really made a mistake out there. We had to earn it, and that's what you want to have. Hats off to Langers. They played amazing."

'The body just won't recover like it used to': Tiger Woods' future in golf looks grim

Tiger Woods shed light on whether or not he will continue his golfing career, explaining that his body isn't healing the way he hoped it would.

During a press conference in the Bahamas, Woods said he had a "long way to go" before he was "able to compete" against PGA Tour opponents.

Woods said last year he wanted to compete once per month in 2024 but played just five times this season and even withdrew from a tournament due to illness. He only made one cut in those five competitions; placing 60th at the Masters.

'That's part of age and part of the athlete's journey.'

While hosting the Hero World Challenge, Woods spoke to reporters for about 30 minutes on his injuries and intent to play moving forward.

"I'm not tournament-sharp yet. I'm still not there," Woods said regarding competing in the challenge; he finished 18 out of 20 in the tournament in 2023.

"These are 20 of the best players in the world, and I'm not sharp enough to compete against them at this level. When I'm ready to compete and play at this level, then I will."

Expressing his desire to continue golfing, Woods said "the fire still burns to compete."

"The difference is, the recovery of the body to do it is not what it used to be," he added.

"I still love doing it, I love competing, I love competing at anything whether it's we're playing cards or we're playing golf, and no matter what it is I love competing. That's never going to leave but, as far as the recovery process of going out there and doing it again and again and again and doing it consistently at a high level, for some reason the body just won't recover like it used to," Woods said with a shoulder shrug.

"That's part of age and part of the athlete's journey."

In mid-September, Woods went under the knife for what was believed to be his sixth back surgery, ESPN reported, an injury that also caused pain down right his leg. The pain became even worse as the 2024 season went on.

Woods has also had multiple surgeries to repair damage in his right foot and leg he suffered from a car accident in February 2021.

The 49-year-old said he didn't expect his back to go out again this year, but it was "quite painful" throughout the end of the season, which led to another procedure to alleviate the pain in his leg.

As for his future commitments, Wood said he could make new promises all over again but truly didn't know when he would recover.

"I'm just trying to rehab and still get stronger and better and feel better and really give myself the best chance I can going to next year."

Announcer accuses Tiger Woods of being on 'a lot of painkillers' during tournament: 'Look at the eyes'

A broadcaster accused golf legend Tiger Woods of being on "a lot" of painkillers at a recent tournament, sparking controversy and backlash from fans.

It was the first round of the Open Championship in Scotland at the Royal Troon Golf Club when a Sky Sports broadcaster made some accusatory comments about the golfer.

During the broadcast, Mark Roe said that something looked off about Woods, a three-time tournament champion:

"You look at the eyes ... you gotta think there's a lot of painkillers being taken to cope with the pain, you know?" Roe asked.

'There are just things that need not be said.'

As Men's Journal reported, Woods indeed has a history with painkillers since undergoing multiple back and knee surgeries. The outlet noted Woods' 2017 arrest for a DUI, during which he was found to have painkillers hydrocodone and hydromorphone in his system. He later went to rehab for addiction to prescription painkillers.

After the insensitive commentary by the U.K. announcer, fans quickly posted video from the broadcast calling the remarks unnecessary.

"A little bit odd for Mark Roe to just come out and say that. Not all the silences have to be filled," said one golf account who posted the footage.

"An absolute crazy thing to say on air," another page, focusing on golf stats, said.

"I'm not a big fan of Tiger, but even if it's true, there are just things that need not be said," another fan chimed in.

Roe is a former professional golfer, now broadcaster for Sky Sports. He appeared in the very same tournament 12 times beginning in the 1980s, according to Sporting News. He is most known for a scorecard issue at the Open Championship in 2003 when he and his playing partner forgot to exchange scorecards and therefore both signed the wrong card.

The pair were disqualified from the tournament for their error despite Roe being just two strokes behind the leader.

As for Woods, his previous arrest stemmed from what was called an "unexpected reaction" to prescription medications, and he admitted that he should have consulted with his medical team before taking them.

His DUI charge was later dropped, and Woods pleaded guilty to a reckless driving charge from the same incident.

Making Tiger Woods Apologize For Teasing Justin Thomas Is Ridiculous

The media narrative is that Tiger Woods insulted women everywhere by handing Justin Thomas a tampon, implying that Thomas ‘hit like a girl.’

Tiger Woods slammed by women's group, Olympian Michael Johnson for tampon prank as Paige Spiranac defends pro golfer from cancel culture

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is being raked over the coals for pulling off a tampon prank on a fellow golfer. A women's group and Olympian Michael Johnson slammed Woods for the friendly prank, but golfer Paige Spiranac defended the 15-time major champion against cancel culture.

During the first round of the Genesis Invitational on Thursday, Woods handed fellow golfer Justin Thomas a tampon. After Woods gave Thomas the tampon, they embraced and laughed about the joke as they walked off the tee.

Woods apologized for the prank after it went viral online.

"It was supposed to be all fun and games and obviously it hasn’t turned out that way," Woods told reporters on Friday.

"If I offended anybody, it was not the case, it was just friends having fun," Woods said. "As I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I'm sorry. It was not intended to be that way. It was just we play pranks on one another all the time, and virally, I think this did not come across that way, but between us, it was – it’s different."

Despite the apology, Woods was lambasted by some for the prank between friends.

Kara Sugar, the CEO of the Women's Global Empowerment Fund, told TMZ that the prank was misogynistic, tone-deaf, and disrespectful to women and girls all over the world.

Sugar asked Woods if he believed that "periods are embarrassing or shameful or a sign of weakness?"

Olympian Michael Johnson bashed Woods for his apology.

"Apology starting with 'If I offended anyone' is no apology. But this is Tiger. Never been a leader and he's Teflon," Johnson wrote on Twitter. "Still heralded after all the mistakes so he's learned nothing. Media focus always on miraculous recovery. Never why the need for recovery."

Golfer Paige Spiranac came to the defense of Tiger.

"If anyone tries to cancel Tiger over this we riot. It's funny," Spiranac tweeted.

"Instead of women being outraged by Tiger and the tampon, I would love for them to actually provide ideas to help," she added. "For example I would have Tampex team up with the PGA tour to run a campaign where they provide free feminine products at golf courses. Most don’t actually have them and during long rounds it can be a problem for us."

Spiranac added, "It's interesting to see women outraged by Tiger slipping JT a tampon after out driving him but those same women will quickly tear me down for how I've decided to build my business. You can't pick and choose when to be a feminist."

Tiger Woods turned down offer of $700-$800 million to join controversial LIV Golf

LIV Golf, the professional golf tour that has stirred controversy due to its ties with the Saudi Arabian government and efforts to lure talent away from the PGA Tour, lost out on the biggest fish in the sport.

In an appearance on "Tucker Carlson Tonight," LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman confirmed that 46-year-old Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion, turned down an offer between $700 million and $800 million to join the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

"Look, Tiger is a needle mover, right? So, of course you're got to look at the best of the best,” Norman told Tucker Carlson. When Carlson asked Norman about the $700-$800 million figure that had been rumored, Norman responded, “They had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. That number is somewhere in that neighborhood."

Norman called the PGA Tour a "monopoly" during his interview with Carlson and said the PGA created obstacles that caused LIV Golf to alter its plans for its launch.

Norman also said it "blows my mind" that corporate sponsors have dropped golfers for joining LIV because of its Saudi ties, despite having business ties themselves with Saudi Arabia. "The PGA Tour, I think, has about 27 sponsors who do 40-plus billion dollars’ worth of annual business on an annual basis in Saudi Arabia," he claimed.

LIV has been handing out enormous sums of money to attract top PGA stars to its events. According to the Associated Press, various reports have said Phil Mickelson received a $200 million signing bonus, while Dustin Johnson received $150 million.

As LIV’s rivalry with the PGA Tour rages on, Woods has remained an outspoken supporter of the latter. "I’ve been playing out here for a couple of decades, and I think there’s a legacy to it. I still think the PGA Tour has so much to offer, so much opportunity,” Woods said in May. He also stated that players who took money from LIV Golf had “turned their back” on the PGA Tour that made them famous.

Woods should be able to survive without the LIV deal. Forbes estimates that he has earned $1.7 billion on and off the course in his illustrious career.
