House passes major military funding despite trans controversy

The House passed the National Defense Authorization Act on Wednesday night with bipartisan support despite pushback from both sides of the aisle.

The NDAA passed the House in a 281-140 vote authorizing over $895 billion in defense spending. Although both parties had problems with the bill, more Democrats voted against the NDAA due to Republican Speaker Mike Johnson's last-minute provision that prohibits the military's health care system from providing taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for minors.

'We also believe it’s important to refocus the Pentagon on military lethality, not radical woke ideology.'

"Our men and women in uniform should know their first obligation is protecting our nation, not woke ideology," Johnson said in a Thursday post on X. "It’s disappointing to see 124 of my Democrat colleagues vote against our brave men and women in uniform over policies that have nothing to do with their intended mission."

Over the course of months of negotiations, the NDAA was stripped of other controversial provisions.

"We also believe it’s important to refocus the Pentagon on military lethality, not radical woke ideology," Johnson continued. "This legislation permanently bans transgender treatment for minors, prohibits critical race theory in military academies, ends the DEI bureaucracy, and combats antisemitism."

Many of the 124 Democrats who opposed this restriction accused Republicans of "restricting health care access," a euphemism for severe and irreversible treatments that, as Johnson pointed out, often result in the sterilization of the child, in addition to other permanent side effects.

"We should be supporting our service members and military families who sacrifice so much for us — not restricting health care access and undermining our military readiness, retention, and recruitment," Democratic Rep. Sarah Jacobs of California said in a Wednesday post on X. "That’s why I voted against this year’s NDAA."

Other Democrats like Rep. Adam Smith of Washington called the provision "bigoted against the trans community" and called the transgender treatments "crucial to the health and well-being of our children."

Of the 16 Republicans who voted against the NDAA, several cited concerns over the exorbitant price tag, while others said the bill simply did not go far enough to combat the "woke ideology."

"I voted no on the NDAA," Republican Rep. Chip Roy (Texas) said in a Wednesday post on X. "It was better because of our hard work and I thank [Speaker Johnson] for holding spending power lower than the Senate & fighting child mutilation. But it is not good enough yet. More to do."

Although Johnson was able to amend some of the woke language in the legislation, the NDAA still allows transgender treatments for adults and upholds a Pentagon policy that reimburses troops who traveled to obtain abortions.

"This NDAA fails to terminate the current military abortion travel policy, continued biased diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and positions at the Pentagon, and does nothing to prohibit taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for those serving," Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale of Montana said in a press release Wednesday. "On top of that, it continued to fund the heinous practice of indefinite detainment of American citizens. This legislation is not only unserious but also unconstitutional."

Exclusive: Jim Jordan, Chip Roy slam DOJ prosecution of whistleblower who exposed trans surgeries on minors

Republican Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Chip Roy of Texas co-authored a letter exclusively obtained by Blaze News slamming the Biden Department of Justice for prosecuting a medical whistleblower who shed light on transgender medical interventions used on children.

The DOJ is prosecuting Dr. Eithan Haim, a whistleblower who exposed the Texas Children's Hospital for performing transgender surgeries and treatments on minors, for allegedly committing HIPAA violations despite withholding sensitive medical or personal information about the patients. Haim's advocacy alerted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, prompting him to issue a formal opinion in 2022, categorizing the procedures as child abuse.

'The DOJ's prosecution of Dr. Haim for blowing the whistle on criminal child abuse is wrong.'

"The hospital's actions raise concerns that this is continuing to intentionally harm young children for the purpose of a left-wing policy agenda," the letter reads.

Although Texas Children's Hospital announced that it would cease the transgender medical interventions on minors just a month after Paxton's statement, Haim revealed the hospital had continued the surgeries. As a result, the DOJ decided to prosecute Haim.

"The DOJ's prosecution of Dr. Haim for blowing the whistle on criminal child abuse is wrong," the letter reads. "As the Subcommittee examines this matter to inform potential legislative reforms that would enhance civil liberties and protect minors, we believe that the Texas Children's Hospital possesses relevant documents and information."

Jordan, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, and Roy, who chairs the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, called on Texas Children's Hospital to turn over all relevant communications and documents surrounding Haim and the transgender treatments on minors.

Meet Eithan Haim, the heroic whistleblower who’s also — a criminal?

What happens when your personal convictions put you in direct violation of the law?

That’s the question Dr. Eithan Haim, a surgeon in Texas, was forced to confront last year when he discovered some disturbing information about Texas Children’s Hospital, where he was serving his residency.

Despite the institution’s pledge to cease providing transgender medical care to minors in the wake of Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton passing a law that deemed sex changes on minors and puberty-blockers “child abuse,” Haim found that medical staff was continuing to offer services in secret.

He then stepped into the courageous shoes of a whistleblower, but part of being a whistleblower is providing proof, which in this case, is medical records. However, to share sensitive medical information is a violation of HIPAA.

Haim ultimately decided the risk was worth it and gave conservative journalist Christopher Rufo medical records to prove that the hospital was continuing to provide transgender care to minors.

Now, Dr. Haim has been indicted on four accounts for HIPAA violations.

Today, he meets with Glenn Beck to share his story.

“Thank you for what you’ve done,” says Glenn, praising Haim not only for his courage to speak up but also his willingness to go through his savings and retirement funds to pay for the attorneys — and ultimately for the protection of children.

“[My wife and I] had a decision to make,” he tells Glenn. “Do we try to fight back, or do we submit to the ideology and try to make it all go away? We knew that we were going to have kids someday, and what kind of world would we be delivering them into if there’s not men and women in this world who are willing to sacrifice in order to deliver them to a better future?”

“We’ve sacrificed a lot — everything we have, but what you gain back is so much greater,” he says, noting that his wife is currently pregnant with their first child.

“You raise [children] to have the virtues to have a good and fulfilling life,” but “this government is criminalizing those virtues; the justice system is protecting criminals going after the innocent; the medical system is creating sickness and going after the healthy; the education system is miseducating people. It’s like every institution is doing the opposite of what it’s meant to do,” Haim laments. “People like us have to do something about it even if that means sacrificing.”

We applaud Dr. Haim’s courage to stand up for the innocent and fight back against those who prey on the most vulnerable. To donate to Dr. Haim’s cause, visit givesendgo.com.
