Gamers unimpressed by Harris campaign’s Fortnite map, leading to immediate backlash

The Kamala Harris campaign announced its own map on the popular shooter game Fortnite just a week before the election as part of a bid to reach gamers. The map was met with very few initial users.

"Freedom Town, USA" sports some of the Harris campaign promises and presents itself in the exact way an out-of-touch politician would attempt to reach young audiences.

In a promo video, "Fight for freedom" appears in large text as generic rock-rap music begins to play. On the map's backdrop, fictional retail outlets like "Kamala's Kicks" fill the streets.

The imagery also showcases signs in rainbow colors that display generic messages like "Promise of America" and "Freedom."

"Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's campaign have released their very own Fortnite map in a bid to court the most oppressed demographic: 12-year-old gamers who play Fortnite," writer Ian Miles Cheong wrote on X.

"Freedom Town, USA is a custom creative map themed around some of Harris' campaign, including tax breaks for small businesses and affordable housing."

Cheong also revealed that audio cues in the new map included clips from Donald Trump. For example, when you pick up a cat, Trump says, "They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats," plays.

"You have to wonder who they're even campaigning for," Cheong added.

The map, which was officially released on October 28, so far has not been a hit. It carried an impressively low all-time peak of 261 concurrent users and is ranked No. 435 as a map. At the time of this publication, there were 1.7 million people playing Fortnite.

Other pushes from the Harris campaign into the gaming world have included a Geeks & Nerds for Harris fundraiser.

Embarrassingly broken up into the categories "Earth heroes" and "space explorers," the organizers describe themselves as a "diverse group of fandoms and artists teaming up to support Kamala Harris."

'Those guys drew up a playbook and it's project 2025.'

Additionally, vice presidential candidate and Governor Tim Walz was joined in a video game streaming session by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The pair played the football game Madden 25 and the driving game Crazy Taxi.

During their stream, Walz attacked Trump for wanting an administration that tells citizens "what books to read" while connecting him to Project 2025.

"I think a lot of folks on here are kind of independent folks, independent thinkers about things," Walz stated. "Why would you want the government telling you what books to read, or what doctor to see, or what how big your family can be?"

"It's that kind of stuff [that] is ridiculous and so I think, you talk about football planning, it's the same way; if you're going to drop a playbook in football you're going to use it. Those guys drew up a playbook and it's project 2025."

Videos show 'huge giveaway' by social media influencer sparking mayhem in NYC, Kai Cenat taken into custody: 'It's a war out there'

A "huge giveaway" by a popular social media influencer caused thousands of people to gather in New York City on Friday afternoon. The massive mob forced New York City cops to don riot gear and the NYPD scrabble to mobilize to contain the huge crowd.

Kai Cenat, a popular Twitch streamer and YouTube content creator, promised a "huge giveaway" at 4 p.m. Friday in Manhattan. NYPD estimated that a "couple thousand people" assembled in Union Square to get their hands on free PlayStation 5 video game consoles, gaming PCs, and gift cards from the social media star with millions of fans on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Twitch.

Some of the people in Union Square reportedly tore down barricades and threw garbage at police officers.

An NYPD spokesperson said the department issued level 4 mobilization — the city's highest level of disaster response. The spokesperson also said more than 1,000 officers were requested to respond to the escalating situation.

The huge crowds blocked several roads, causing nightmares for rush-hour motorists.

CBS News reported, "Chopper 2 was overhead and spotted people climbing on top of the roof covering the entrance to the Union Square subway station. One person was seen setting off a fire extinguisher, sending huge smoky plumes over the crowd."

New York City subways are skipping the Union Square station.

Kai Cenat said of the chaos, "It's a war out there, man."

Twitch apologizes for using 'womxn' after online outrage from transgender activists and allies

Popular streaming platform Twitch apologized after a wave of online outrage from transgender activists and their allies over their use of the term "womxn."

"While we originally wanted to use a word that acknowledges the shortcoming of gender-binary language, after hearing directly from you, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community on Twitch, we will be using the spelling 'women' moving forward," Twitch tweeted from their official account.

Transgender activists excoriated Twitch because the term is seen as transphobic because it excludes the possibility of biological men who identify as women.

"We want to assure you that we have, and will continue to, work with the LGBTQIA+ community. We're still learning. Our good intentions don't always equate to positive impact, but we're committed to growing from these experiences, doing better, and ensuring we're inclusive to all," Twitch added in a second tweet.

The account tweeted their original tweet that was offensive to the transgender community, but screenshots were circulated by those angry at the message.

"March is Womxn's History Month," the deleted tweet read. "Join us in celebrating and supporting all the Womxn creating their own worlds, building their communities, and leading the way on Twitch."

Transgender allies said the term was used by "TERFs," their acronym for "Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists," to exclude transgender women.

"This needs to be said: 'Womxn' is a term made by terfs. Trans women are women. Folks is already gender neutral. Not everyone likes 'folx'. Respect peoples wishes. Latine (sic) people have stated many times they don't like the term 'Latinx'. Don't be performative," said one account.

"I'm trans and 'womxn' is only used by people who try to tell me I'm not a 'real woman.' If you truly want to be inclusive of me and not purposely trying to other me, then you'll stop doing this," said another critic.

"If you want to do a Women's History Month and wish for trans women to be included, please, just call us women. If your true intentions are to validate us, then don't other us," they added in a second tweet.

"Twitch, we won't forget that you used a harmful term created by transphobes in a tweet you made. Trans women are women, not womxn," responded another critic.

President Joe Biden has promised to side with the transgender lobby on issues relating to LGBT causes.
