88-year-old Holocaust survivor challenges 'The View' after Whoopi Goldberg's debacle over race and the Holocaust

An 88-year-old Holocaust survivor is calling on "The View" to have a broad discussion about the Holocaust after co-host Whoopi Goldberg insisted that the horrific atrocity was "not about race."

What's the background on this?

During Monday's broadcast of the hit ABC show, Goldberg said that the Holocaust wasn't about race but about "man's inhumanity to man" and that it took place between "two white groups of people."

"No," she insisted. "It's not about race. ... The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let's talk about it for what it is. It's how people treat each other. It's a problem. It doesn't matter if you're black or white, 'cause black, white, Jews ... everybody eats each other."

Goldberg faced mountains of criticism following the remarks, for which she eventually apologized.

"On today's show, I said the Holocaust 'is not about race, but about man's inhumanity to man,' I should have said it is about both," she wrote on Twitter. "As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, 'The Holocaust was about the Nazi's systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.' I stand corrected."

"The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver [sic]. I'm sorry for the hurt I have caused," she added.

She later appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," however, in a segment that was filmed prior to her apology, and appeared to double down on her comments.

"It upset a lot of people, which was never, ever, ever, ever my intention," Goldberg said, and added, "I feel, being black, when we talk about race, it's a very different thing to me. So I said that I felt that the Holocaust wasn't about race. And people got very, very, very angry and still are angry. I mean, I'm getting ... mail from folks and very real anger. 'Cause people feel very differently. But I thought it was a salient discussion because as a black person I think of race as being something that I can see. So I see you, and I know what race you are."

She added that she now understands.

"I felt differently. I respect everything everyone is saying to me. ... I don't wanna fake apologize. ... I was ... very upset that people ... misunderstood what I was saying," she continued. "And so because of it, they're saying that I'm anti-Semitic, and that I'm denying the Holocaust, and all these other things which would ... never occur to me ... I thought we were having a discussion about race, which everyone I think is having."

Goldberg added that she was simply saying that you couldn't use the Holocaust as an example of racism.

"When you talk about being a racist, I was saying you can't call [the Holocaust] racism. This was evil," she insisted. "This wasn't based on the skin. You couldn't tell who was Jewish. [The Nazis] had to delve deeply to figure it out."

She added that she's also learned her lesson and doesn't want to talk about it any more.

"I said this wasn't racial. This was about white on white. And everybody said, 'No, no, no, it was racial,' and so that's what this all came from," she complained. "So once again: Don't write me any more, I know how you feel, OK? I already know. I get it. And I'm going to take your word for it and never bring it up again."

What are the details?

Lucy Lipiner, the 88-year-old author of "Long Journey Home: A Young Girl's Memoir of Surviving the Holocaust," took Goldberg to task over the remarks and expressed the desire to speak her mind on "The View" for the world to hear.

Lipiner's story is famous: After having to flee from Poland with her family when she was just 6 years old, she lost all of her loved ones and ended up in Siberia and Tajikistan before eventually making it to America.

She took to Twitter following Goldberg's remarks, where she wrote, "Hi @TheView, I am a Holocaust survivor in NYC. I might be 88-years-old but I have the energy to come on your show and talk to @WhoopiGoldberg and all the girls about the Holocaust."

"I think we can have a meaningful conversation together and heal wounds," she concluded. "DM me!"

Liberals lash out at Chuck Todd for calling on President-elect Biden to keep his campaign promise

NBC political director and MSNBC host Chuck Todd was excoriated by many on the left on social media for asking if President-elect Joe Biden would be able to keep his promise on the coronavirus pandemic.

Todd made the comments Tuesday on "Meet the Press" after noting poll results that showed many Americans believed the country was divided and would remain so for many years.

"Let's be realistic, Biden's first and most crucial task is to vaccinate America, to fulfill that promise of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days," Todd said.

"The ultimate success or failure of his presidency may hinge simply on that one promise that he made and it might be his only way to begin immediately cauterizing America's social, economic, and political wounds," he continued.

"Let's put it this way, if Biden wants to succeed he has to fulfill that first vaccination promise," he concluded. "If Biden doesn't get it right, he will have failed on the job he was elected to do."

What was the reaction?

Many on the left rushed to social media to register their fury against Todd and MSNBC for continuing to keep him employed.

"For years I've been on this platform telling you about the lack of professionalism and lack of journalistic ethics in @chucktodd's daily broadcasts. A lot of you saw it today. But it's been happening for years and it is past time for @MSNBC to do something about it," said novelist Don Winslow.

"If you agree that Chuck Todd is already a failure before Joe Biden is sworn in, then raise your hand," tweeted progressive activist Grant Stern.

"[C]huck todd, before biden is even sworn in... talking about his push for vaccines: 'if biden doesn't get it right, he will have failed in the job he was elected to do' i repeat: biden is not even sworn in yet," said liberal activist Oliver Willis.

"I've been trying to hold my tongue. But I'm done. F*** @chucktodd. That's what I said. F***. #ChuckTodd. Once more for the kids in the back: #F***CHUCKTODD!!!!" tweeted liberal actor Matt Walton.

Todd faced similar rancor from many on the left in July when he merely pointed out that the president had "turned a corner" on whether masks should be worn to help stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

CNN's Dana Bash decries 'cancel culture B.S.' after social media melts down over her response to Trump video

CNN's Dana Bash faced an outpouring of outrage from the network's viewers on social media after she merely pointed out that the president appeared to have a different tone in a video statement he posted to Twitter.

Bash made the comments on Thursday a day after chaos erupted at the U.S. Capitol when supporters of the president attempted to forcefully stop Congress from verifying the election results. CNN anchor Erin Burnett asked Bash to respond to the video the president posted where he scolded the rioters.

"This is though very different from what he said yesterday," said Burnett. "So Dana, what's your reaction to this, as we hear it now?"

"Well," responded Bash, "it is obviously a very different tone."

"Yes," agreed Burnett.

Many viewers turned to social media to express their outrage at Bash for pointing out the different tone from the president.

"I don't f***ing believe it but @DanaBashCNN just said Trump is showing "a new tone" I'm not f***ing kidding," tweeted Matt Negrin, a producer for "The Daily Show."

He posted a short video of the comments to his Twitter account.

"In the most generous interpretation of this, Dana didn't have a good analysis and just had to say something to fill the air. @DanaBashCNN you should apologize this is absolutely f***ing nuts. Trump incited a mob that killed people," he added.

Others jumped in to attack Bash for her comment.

"Dana Bash said he struck a very different tone. F*** her," said one commenter.

"A different tone? What's this dumb a** Dana Bash talking about? His spray tan tone????? F*** outta here," said another Twitter user.

"Dana Bash went back to talking about Trump's new tone. I wish I was joking. I wish I was joking," tweeted Adam Parkhomenko, a Democratic strategist and consultant.

Bash tried to explain herself, which solicited even more online abuse.

"I almost never respond such things - but your attack on me tonight was totally out of bounds and out of context. What the president said was different. I didn't defend it. I explained it. With reporting. I also called out his lies in the video," Bash tweeted.

"These times are hard enough," she added. "Engaging in cancel culture B.S. has got to stop - especially when it comes to journalists putting facts first. Enough."

Matt Doric, a CNN communications director, also defended Bash while criticizing Parkhomenko.

"This is such a cheap shot. And such willfully ignorant BS. It's even cheaper bc you didn't have the guts to tag her," he tweeted.

Liberal anti-Trump activist mocks Christian conservatives and faces a 's**tstorm' of backlash

Liberal activist Amy Siskind fired off a dismissive tweet mocking conservative Christians and when she checked into her social media account later, she said there was a "s**tstorm" of backlash.

Siskind posted a popular meme that aimed to divide the United States into a country composed of the region with majority liberals united with Canada separated from those regions with majority conservatives.

"Proposed map. NY and CA are sick of supporting these red welfare states!" she tweeted.

The meme also referred to the latter as "Jesusland" to ridicule Christians.

Her missive was immediately met with an onslaught from those defending Christians and the political right.

Siskind deleted the tweet but screenshots were circulated by her critics.

Siskind later tweeted that she returned to her account to find a surprising amount of backlash.

"I sent a tweet in response to Limbaugh's comments on secession that was meant to be cheeky in response to the hypocrisy of the GOP not wanting to "bail out" blue states w/ Covid. It was poorly written and the meme was a bad choice," she said.

"Was offline for a few hours...and came back to the s**tstorm I had caused," she added in a second tweet.

"My apologies to anyone offended. It was just sloppy work and I take the responsibility and will be more careful in constructing what I post. I am always a work in progress, but today I failed. Please accept my apology," she added.

Many on Twitter definitely did not accept her apology.

"Hey @Amy_Siskind, You're a bigot. That seems clear from the map you posted but let me tell ya something, I'd choose Jesusland 100 out of 100 times vs. living in the United Socialist States of leftist virtue signaling that's hypocritically run by a guy who wore blackface for fun," responded director Robby Starbuck.

"So you're copying someone else's map from 2004, taking the whitest states in the Union, and admitting liberals are godless... all in one tweet," responded another social media user.

The phrase "Jesusland" also trended nationally on Twitter as thousands of people responded.

The ridicule of conservative Christians was especially egregious given the Democrat's campaign to win the U.S. Senate by winning two runoff elections in Georgia, a state with conservative and Christian leanings.

Trump campaign says rapper Ice Cube added input on its plan for the black community, and his fans are outraged

Fans of the iconic rapper Ice Cube were outraged on Wednesday after a top Trump campaign adviser tweeted that the notoriously anti-Trump musician was working with the administration.

Katrina Pierson let the cat out of the bag in a tweet thanking Ice Cube, whose real name is O'Shea Jackson, for his contribution to the campaign's "platinum plan," a set of policies meant to help the black community prosper.

"Shoutout to @icecube for his willingness to step up and work with @realDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan," Pierson tweeted.

"Leaders gonna lead, haters gonna hate. Thank you for leading!" she added.

Jackson confirmed that he had spoken with the Trump campaign about his plan, called the Contract with a Black America.

"Facts: I put out the CWBA. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we'll address the CWBA after the election," tweeted Jackson.

"Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA," he added.

"They used your blackness"

Although Jackson merely responded to a call from the Trump administration, many of his fans took to social media to excoriate him for it, while many falsely accused him of endorsing the president's re-election campaign.

"You see what they did homie? They used your blackness as a political ploy to siphon black votes," said one user to Jackson.

"Who is Ice Cube fooling. He was a Trump supporter all along. They hear money and that's all they go for," said actress Conchita Leeflang.

"Ice Cube is working with a president who is beloved by actual Nazis, Klansmen and every other major white supremacist group," claimed activist director Payman Benz.

"So Ice Cube confirms that he's working with a white supremacist. Got it," said sportscaster Chris Williamson.

"Donald Trump doesn't give AF about Black people; yet, some of you are all too willing to shuck & jive for him," he added.

Although Jackson has been venomously vocal against Trump and his policies, he has also publicly questioned whether Democratic policies and politicians have been good for the black community.

Fox News' John Roberts lashes out at critics on Twitter over his question to Kayleigh McEnany: 'I'm tired of it!'

Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts angrily lashed out at critics on Twitter who were angry at his questions at the White House media briefing.

He made the comments to "Outnumbered" co-host Melisa Francis on Thursday.

Roberts tried to nail down a response from White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany about the position the president had about the "Proud Boys," a controversial political group that often confronts liberal protesters.

"If the president didn't know who Proud Boys were, and Joe Biden just threw out the name, if he didn't know who they were, why did he denounce them? Why didn't he say, 'well I don't know who they are, can you give me a little bit more information about them,' and then make a decision about it?" asked Roberts.

"This all remains very puzzling," he added.

"And for all of you on Twitter who are hammering me for asking that question, I don't care, because it's a question that needs to be asked. And clearly the president's Republican colleagues a mile away from here are looking for an answer for it too," Roberts continued.

"So stop deflecting, stop blaming the media!" he said.

"I'm tired of it!" Roberts concluded.

Video of Roberts' outburst was circulated on social media:

Some pretty striking comments from John Roberts on Fox https://t.co/zqftfKoluF
— Dave Brown (@Dave Brown)1601569163.0

Here's how it started

Roberts had raised the hackles of supporters of the president when he asked McEnany if the president would make a declaration denouncing white supremacy.

"I'd like ask you for a definitive and declarative statement without ambiguity or deflection," said Roberts.

"As the person who speaks for the president, does the president denounce white supremacism and groups that espouse it, in all their forms?" he asked.

"This has been answered, yesterday by the president himself, the day before by the president himself, on the debate stage, the president was asked this, he said sure three times," answered McEnany.

"Yesterday he was point blank asked, 'do you denounce white supremacy,' and he said I have always denounced any form of that," she added.

McEnany went on to read off numerous examples of quotes from the president condemning white supremacy. Roberts noted those examples, but asked for a new comment because those were quotes from the past.

At the end of the briefing, McEnany chastised the media for ignoring the violence from left-wing groups like Antifa and instead focusing on white supremacist organizations.

Chris Matthews calls Trump 'presidential' for his response to Ginsburg death, and liberals are melting down online

Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews was the object of a furious backlash after he offered praise for President Donald Trump and his response to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The iconic liberal pundit offered his appraisal of the president in a short tweet on Monday.

"Trump is right to show respect for RBG. True presidential behavior. Far too rare," said Matthews.

The president was first made aware of the death of the women's rights advocate on Friday when asked by reporters about it after he spoke at a campaign rally in Minnesota. The president called Ginsburg an "amazing woman who led an amazing life." The White House later released a statement praising Ginsburg for her lifetime of accomplishments.

'Pathetic suck-up!'

Despite the muted criticism tacked on at the end of his tweet, Matthews immediately faced the ire of liberals and other critics of the president on social media.

"Oh geez, @HardballChris, give me a f**king break. Really, you're such a pathetic suck-up!" replied Democratic strategist Jon Cooper.

"Oh look, it's Chris Matthews being terrible, how shocking! I'm so glad you're not on TV anymore #stfu," said writer Tara Dublin.

"I swear to god that Chris Matthews never really made it past 1996 in terms of his perception of American politics. The man seems to be stuck in a time when the national discourse was shaped by white men saying things about each other," replied LGBT advocate Charlotte Clymer.

"When you're desperate to be even more of a joke than you already are," said Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko.

"So glad you aren't on the air. Some people never learn," said screenwriter Bruno Amato.

Others made biting references to the accusations of sexual harassment that forced Matthews to leave his MSNBC show in March after two decades.
