Businesses board up their windows in heavily Democratic cities ahead of Election Day

Heavily Democratic cities are now in the habit of boarding up windows and shuttering businesses ahead of political events that might upset local leftists.

That is certainly the case with Washington, D.C., which erected "Black Lives Matter"-branded plywood boards and fencing outside of stores ahead of the 2020 election and saw businesses brace for chaos again when Roe v. Wade was overturned. Some businesses in the city also took precautions ahead of the January 2017 anti-Trump riots, where all the rioters ultimately got off scot-free, as well as ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, protests, where rioters were held to a different standard.

Possibly anticipating more chaos in the District of Columbia, where 92.1% of the vote in the last presidential election went to Joe Biden, businesses are once again reinforcing their windows and preparing for potentially "fiery but mostly peaceful protests."

Resident Stacy Snyder told WJLA-TV, "Hopefully no riots. Nobody wants to see anyone get hurt or any damage. After what happened last time, I guess, you have to be prepared for anything. So, like I said, better safe than sorry."

Ebony Boger, who works downtown, indicated she recently received an email from building management indicating it was going to fortify the exterior.

"It's not shocking. I'm kind of used to it. I think they should do it," said Boger.

The managers of various buildings confirmed to WJLA that the election was the reason behind the plywood reinforcement.

According to the Washington Post, some business and property owners have also boosted their private security in anticipation of possible riots and looting.

'If people choose to riot, I feel like we need to listen to the people.'

Leon Beresford, executive vice president of Admiral Security Services, indicated that his company, which provides security to 150 commercial office buildings in D.C., is mobilizing around 2,000 guards in time for Election Day.

"People would rather be overprepared and have nothing happen, as opposed to the alternative," said Eric Jones, vice president of government affairs for the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington.

Washington Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith said at a press conference last week, "I want to be very clear: We will not tolerate any violence of any kind. We will not tolerate any riots. We will not tolerate the destruction of property. We will not tolerate any unlawful behavior. Offenders will be arrested and will be held accountable."

Smith indicated that well over 3,000 police officers will be working 12-hour shifts through the election.

Storefronts in Portland, Oregon — another heavily Democratic city — have similarly disappeared behind protective boards. While big-name businesses like Chase Bank have reinforced their establishments, some have alternatively chosen to trust the mob.

Katherine Morgan, the owner of the relatively new Grand Gestures Books, told KATU-TV, "When I got the business, the windows were boarded up because of the protest, and they just never came down. For me, if people choose to riot, I feel like we need to listen to the people."

Morgan indicated she won't be boarding up her establishment, noting, "I'm someone who believes in protesting, I'm someone who believes in doing whatever you can for your voice to be heard."

Real estate developer Jordan Schnitzer told the Oregonian he is praying his building will go unscathed.

"If your sports team loses, do you go out and break windows?" said Schnitzer. "In this day and age to see that this type of behavior in America is so commonplace is heartbreaking."

Portland Police Chief Bob Day said last week, "We never can eliminate risk, but the confidence that I have in our community, the confidence I have in our law enforcement response, I'm really hopeful that that's not going to be necessary."

'We need to cut all their throats!' UK official arrested on suspicion of encouraging murder of anti-immigration protesters

A United Kingdom official was arrested after he called for the throats of anti-immigration protesters to be cut, the Independent reported.

Ricky Jones, who sits on the Dartford Borough Council, also was suspended by the Labour Party after his Wednesday outdoor speech before a "cheering crowd" in Walthamstow, east London, the outlet said.

'This horrific man needs arresting, and all those visibly clapping here should have this video sent to their bosses and families. There’s no place for this murderous talk anywhere in our society.'

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage on Thursday posted video on X showing the speech in question. The Daily Mail reported that Jones in his "inflammatory speech" hollered, "They are disgusting, nasty fascists, and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all!" The clip shows him sliding his finger across his throat as he spoke; he then led a “free, free Palestine!" chant.

In addition, Jones "accused members of the far-right of putting National Front stickers with razor blades hidden behind them on trains," the Daily Mail added.

The Independent said Metropolitan Police posted a statement on X saying "officers have arrested a man aged in his 50s at an address in south-east London. He was held on suspicion of encouraging murder and for an offense under the Public Order Act. He is in custody at a south London police station.”

What's more, a Labour Party spokesperson said “this behavior is completely unacceptable, and it will not be tolerated. The councillor has been suspended from the party," the Independent reported.

Mike Galsworthy, chair of the anti-Brexit European Movement UK, noted on X that "this horrific man needs arresting, and all those visibly clapping here should have this video sent to their bosses and families. There’s no place for this murderous talk anywhere in our society.”

A deadly mass stabbing took place July 29 at a Taylor Swift-themed children's dance class in Southport, England, during which a 17-year-old male was accused of killing three and injuring numerous other victims. Officials initially said there was no evidence that terrorism was a motive, which angered many who accused the government of covering up evidence.

Police identified suspect Axel Rudakubana and charged him with three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder. Officials identified him as being from Cardiff but also noted that his parents are Rwandan.

Unrest and violence erupted the day after the stabbings and have spread across the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer denounced the violence and blamed "far-right thuggery."

Radio host Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, on Tuesday opined that "two-tier justice" — in which police more or less ignore Muslim immigrant crime but come down hard on non-Muslims — has been laid bare in the U.K. in the wake of the deadly knife attack.

This week, Austrian authorities arrested a 19-year-old male, accusing him of a terror plot targeting now-canceled Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna. Authorities said he was radicalized by the Islamic State, "thinks it is right to kill infidels," and confessed he wanted to "kill as many people as possible."

Authorities found Islamic State group and al-Qaida material at the home of a second suspect in the terror plot — a 17-year-old male — and added that he was employed just days ago by a company providing services at the concert venue and was arrested by special police forces near the stadium, the Associated Press said.

New Jersey city cops to cite parents for kids' unruly behavior after spate of violence, 'civil unrest' in neighboring areas

A city along the South Jersey Shore has taken preemptive measures after teens in surrounding areas have engaged in "civil unrest" and even violence in recent weeks.

Last Wednesday, the Margate City Police Department announced that officers would be strictly enforcing a parental responsibility ordinance that allows cops to cite parents when their unsupervised children disturb the city's peace. According to the announcement, unaccompanied minors caught engaging in unlawful behavior, putting their safety at risk, or ignoring the commands of police officers will be taken to the station, where parents or guardians must come pick them up.

'These kids have little to no respect for anyone. No respect for themselves, no respect for their friends, and no respect for police, officials, [or] adults.'

The parental responsibility ordinance addresses misbehavior such as loitering, playing in vacant lots or wharves, or strolling down the street after curfew. The curfew extends from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.

A parent or guardian's first proxy offense will result in a fine between $100 and $1,000 and/or up to 90 days of community service. In some cases, a judge may even sentence a parent and child to perform the community service together. The minor may also be criminally charged, if appropriate.

"We, and other police departments and public officials in the state, have asked parents to better supervise their children over the past few years. To date, those calls have been met with limited, or no, success leading us to take this action to ensure the safety of those in the community," MCPD wrote.

"We are pushed to our limit."

Neighboring areas have already suffered several instances of public unrest on account of unruly teens. Over Memorial Weekend, the City of Wildwood had to declare a temporary state of emergency after teens began participating in "numerous incidents of civil unrest," prompting Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. to ban backpacks and other large bags on the boardwalk and on beaches.

"These kids have little to no respect for anyone," Troiano said. "No respect for themselves, no respect for their friends, and no respect for police, officials, [or] adults — just a total lack of respect for any form of authority, and it's become an issue where we cannot enforce the laws."

That same weekend, a young person in nearby Ocean City was stabbed after a fight broke out among a large group of teenagers. Thankfully, the victim suffered only non-life-threatening injuries.

Following that incident, longtime Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan said: "Ocean City will always be welcoming to all guests, but I want to send a clear message to parents and to teens: 'If you don't want to behave, don't come.'"

Residents of Margate City are hopeful that enforcing the ordinance will help keep the peace in their city. "It might get some kids a little scared," one teen admitted. An area mom believes that parents will now "keep an eye on their kids."

"It's tough, but they have to."

VIDEO: Prominent Democrats openly call for violence, riots, and uprisings

A video that splices together clips of prominent Democrats and progressives openly calling for political unrest is now trending online as the nation continues to be gripped by violence and riots in the streets.

The video, produced by Caldron Pool, has garnered 2.5 million views since being posted to Twitter on Sunday.

In its original post, the Caldron Pool account asks, "how did you think it would end?" insinuating that progressives' calls for violence have indeed given rise to the violence now playing out in communities across the country such as Portland, Oregon; Kenosha, Wisconsin; and Chicago.

BlazeTV host Elijah Schaffer — who has reported on much of the violence firsthand and has even had a gun pointed in his face as a result — tweeted out the video, calling it "the most important video of 2020."

Fellow BlazeTV host Steven Crowder suggested that the video be immediately turned into an ad for President Donald Trump's re-election campaign.

What are the details?

"I just don't know why there aren't uprisings all over the country," Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) says as the video opens, adding, "Maybe there will be."

The video then cuts to clips from two separate MSNBC newscasts where one contributors says, "People need to start taking to the streets" in opposition to Trump and then progressive Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) says, "There needs to be unrest in the streets."

After that, CNN host Chris Cuomo is shown saying, "Show me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful," against a backdrop of news about widespread looting and vandalism in New York City.

Elsewhere in the video, liberal reporters, Hollywood celebrities, and politicians — including Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden — can be heard calling for violence against the president and antagonizing his supporters.

"If we were in high school, I'd take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him," Biden said about Trump in 2018.

Why does it matter?

Many Americans have become increasingly frustrated as protests against racial injustice and police brutality have devolved into violent riots over the last several months, seemingly with little or no opposition from Democratic leaders.

Democratic officials in many cities where violent riots have taken place have often acquiesced to demands to cut police budgets even as lawlessness runs rampant.

In response, President Trump has called out the violence and has made law and order a major theme of his re-election campaign, suggesting that if Democrats have their way, the violence will only continue and increase.

"Make no mistake, if you give power to Joe Biden, the radical left will defund police departments all across America," Trump said in his speech at the Republican National Convention last week. "They will pass federal legislation to reduce law enforcement nationwide. They will make every city look like Democrat-run Portland, Oregon."
