Biden admin could seek to 'weaponize' government against Twitter if Trump returns, Musk says

Business magnate Elon Musk, who purchased Twitter last year, suggested in a tweet on Wednesday that President Joe Biden's administration might attempt to "weaponize" the federal government to target Twitter if former President Donald Trump returns to the platform.

"Will be interesting to see how the Biden administration reacts to this," Musk wrote when responding to a tweet about Trump potentially returning to Twitter and Facebook. "They may try to weaponize Federal agencies against Twitter."

Twitter permanently suspended Trump in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot — but since acquiring the company, Musk has reinstated many accounts that had previously been banned, including Trump's — however, Trump has not posted any content since being reinstated.

NBC News reported that Trump's campaign is aiming to get the former president reinstated on Facebook — he was blocked from the platform in early 2021, with the company later announcing that Trump's accounts would be suspended for a two-year period — but that period has fully passed.

"We believe that the ban on President Trump’s account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse," the campaign wrote in a letter to Meta, according to NBC News, which reported that the campaign asked for a "meeting to discuss President Trump’s prompt reinstatement to the platform." The letter reportedly said that "every day that President Trump’s political voice remains silenced furthers an inappropriate interference in the American political and election process."

The outlet pointed to anonymous sources to report that Trump could start using Twitter again. "Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It's just a question of how and when," a Republican said, according to NBC News. "He's been talking about it for weeks, but Trump speaks for Trump, so it's anyone’s guess what he'll do or say or when." The outlet reported that someone else said Trump had been seeking input about getting back on Twitter and that campaign advisers had mulled possibilities for Trump's initial tweet.

Recently, in a reference to the controversial issue of environmental, social, and governance investing, Musk quipped that the letter "S" in ESG means "Satanic."

The billionaire business tycoon tweeted on Wednesday that the World Economic Forum "is increasingly becoming an unelected world government that the people never asked for and don't want."

Illegal immigrant with felony record tried to steal national guardsman's weapon near southern border: Report

A Mexican citizen with a felony record allegedly attempted to steal a weapon belonging to a National Guardsman so that he could escape arrest, law enforcement officials say.

According to a report from Fox News, Ricardo Jaime-Ruiz, 45, had recently crossed the U.S. southern border with a large group of migrants. On Monday at approximately 4 a.m. local time, Border Patrol agents discovered the group near Bentsen Palm Community Park in Mission, Texas, close to the Rio Grande.

As law enforcement agents were processing the other migrants, Jaime-Ruiz attempted to flee, a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety claimed. One member of the Texas National Guard who was there with other soldiers to assist Border Patrol as part of "Operation Lone Star" then supposedly spotted Jaime-Ruiz and repeatedly asked him to stop, but DPS said that Jaime-Ruiz did not heed those commands.

At that point, the situation escalated considerably. The DPS statement alleges that Jaime-Ruiz "then grabbed the soldier's M-4 rifle with both hands in an attempt to seize the weapon for himself." Fortunately, the soldier, whose name has not been released, "was able to maintain possession of his weapon."

Jaime-Ruiz was then arrested "with assistance from other National Guard soldiers" and charged with attempting to seize a weapon from a public servant, DPS said. He is currently being held in Hidalgo County Jail on $30,000 bond. Jail Records say that Jaime-Ruiz is 5'6" and approximately 140 lbs.

DPS also stated that Jaime-Ruiz is a convicted felon who had previously been deported. However, the details regarding his conviction remain unclear. It is unknown the exact nature of his crime, whether he committed the crime in Mexico or the U.S., or whether the crime is in anyway connected to his previous deportation.

The DPS Texas Rangers are still conducting a full investigation of the matter.

Governor Greg Abbott (R) initiated Operation Lone Star in March 2021 to address the massive number of illegal immigrants who have attempted to cross the border, especially since the inauguration of President Joe Biden. According to statistics released by the state of Texas, Operation Lone Star has led to the apprehension of nearly 305,000 illegal immigrants and to nearly 20,000 criminal arrests, more than 17,000 of which have been connected to felony charges.

Rochester mayor's husband arrested on felony drug and weapon charges after police search

The mayor of Rochester, New York, is questioning the timing of authorities arresting her husband on felony drug and weapon charges, after he was arrested as part of an ongoing drug investigation this week.

What are the details?

Mayor Lovely Warren's (D) husband, Timothy Granison, emerged as a suspect three months ago in an investigation being conducted by Rochester police and the area's narcotics team, which was launched seven months ago.

Authorities said that once Granison became a target, the part of the probe involving Granison was taken over by State Police "to preserve the integrity of the investigation for obvious reasons," the Democrat & Chronicle reported.

On Wednesday afternoon, State Police pulled Granison over and found cocaine inside his vehicle, and in a following search of the home he shares with Warren, law enforcement discovered an unregistered handgun. A rifle was also seized, but it is unclear if that firearm is illegal.

Bearing Arms noted that just last week, Warren announced a gun buy-back program for the city of Rochester.

"Getting guns off our streets must be our priority," she said in a statement. "We must continue working together with our citizens to take these guns off our streets so our residents can feel safe in their neighborhoods and live the lives they deserve."

Warren's husband was one of seven people charged in the investigation that involved authorities finding more than two kilos of powder and crack cocaine, three firearms and $100,000 cash, according to Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley (R).

Granison "previously served five years probation for a 1997 jewelry store robbery," according to The Daily Caller. He was charged with three felonies in connection with Wednesday's searches: two drug possession charges, and one weapons charge.

What did the mayor say?

The mayor held a news conference Thursday wherein she addressed the charges against her husband, as well as a separate ongoing investigation into her allegedly violating election laws.

Warren, who has served as mayor of Rochester since 2014, distanced herself from her husband, saying that she and Granison had signed a separation agreement years ago but the two had decided to stay together to co-parent their daughter.

The mayor also suggested she was being targeted at this time because it is three weeks before early voting starts in the mayoral election, and after she "announced we were moving forward with reparations and universal basic income."

She declared during the presser, "Some people would do anything to try and break me."
