AOC says Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein should step down: 'I think criticisms of that stance as 'anti-feminist' are a farce'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has declared that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) should resign from office.

Feinstein, who will turn 90 next month, has been sidelined for quite some time since getting the shingles earlier this year — some Democratic lawmakers have called for her to step down.

Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California said last month that she has never seen people target an ill male senator in such a manner.

According to CNN, Ocasio-Cortez declared on the Bluesky social media platform that Feinstein "should retire," adding, "I think criticisms of that stance as 'anti-feminist' are a farce. Her refusal to either retire or show up is causing great harm to the judiciary - precisely where repro rights are getting stripped. That failure means now in this precious window Dems can only pass GOP- approved nominees," Ocasio-Cortez noted, according to the outlet.

Feinstein, who has served in the U.S. Senate for more than three decades, announced in February that she will not seek re-election in 2024.

"When I was first diagnosed with shingles, I expected to return by the end of the March work period. Unfortunately, my return to Washington has been delayed due to continued complications related to my diagnosis," Feinstein said in a statement last month. "I intend to return as soon as possible once my medical team advises that it's safe for me to travel. In the meantime, I remain committed to the job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco."

It is unclear how long it will be until the senator returns to Washington. "Don't expect her this week," Feinstein's spokesperson told Axios.

'Death to the dictator': Iranian people protest after woman, 22, dies following arrest for breaking hijab law

Protests have erupted in Iran after a young woman died following her arrest by police. Iranian police reportedly issued a statement Monday calling the woman's death an "unfortunate incident" and denied accusations that she was mistreated by authorities, which have provoked widespread demonstrations against the Islamic regime.

The 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, fell into a coma and died after she was arrested by morality police last week, which led to protests in Tehran and the Kurdistan province from which she came, Reuters reported.

Amini was reportedly detained for allegedly violating the country's strict hijab rules, which require women to wear a hair covering and loose clothing over their arms and legs. Witnesses accused police officers of beating her, but Police Brig-Gen Hossein Rahimi denied the allegations, according to the BBC.

Police claimed she suffered "sudden heart failure" while awaiting transport to a facility to be "educated." They released video showing a woman they identified as Amini talking with a female official, who grabs her clothing. The woman then raised her hands to her head and collapsed, the BBC reported.

"This incident was unfortunate for us and we wish to never witness such incidents," Rahimi told the Fars news agency.

However, the woman's father on Sunday reportedly told a pro-reform website Emtedad News that his daughter had no health problems and that she suffered bruises on her legs. He blamed the police for her death.

The incident has led to widespread public outcry in Iran and on social media. The Persian hashtag #MahsaAmini has reached nearly 2 million Twitter mentions since last week, along with anti-government slogans, Reuters reported. Iranian women have posted videos on social media showing them cutting their hair and burning their hijabs to protest the regime.

"From the age of 7 if we don’t cover our hair we won’t be able to go to school or get a job. We are fed up with this gender apartheid regime," Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad tweeted on Sunday.

Protests reportedly began on Saturday during Amini's funeral in Saqqez, the capital city of the Kurdistan Province. Social media videos show women chanting against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and removing their hijabs.

The Iranian government has reportedly used violence against the protesters. Alinejad shared in another tweet that Iranian Security Forces allegedly opened fire on peaceful protesters in Saqqez. She posted video that shows a man lying on the ground and bleeding before he's carried away to what appears to be a medical facility.

Amini's death could escalate tensions between the Iranian regime and the country's Kurdish minority, which numbers eight to 10 million people. According to Reuters, Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers have used violence to suppress unrest in Kurdish areas of the country for decades.

Police confirm Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was 'swatted' after fake 911 call reported shooting at her home

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was "swatted" early Wednesday morning after an unknown person filed a fake shooting report that led police to respond at Greene's home, authorities said.

"Last night, I was swatted just after 1 a.m. I can’t express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement here in Rome, Floyd County," Greene tweeted Wednesday.

Police officers are investigating after someone placed a 911 call and reported that a subject was shot multiple times at an address within city limits, the Rome Police Department said in a statement.

When officers responded to the location, they discovered it was the congresswoman's home address. Greene informed police that there was no issue, and the call was determined to be a prank commonly known as "swatting," police said.

The Rome Police Department said it received a second 911 call from an individual who used "a computer generated voice" and stated they were upset about Greene's political views on transgender youth rights.

"The Rome Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is working in conjunction with the United States Capital Police on this investigation," police said.

"This is an active investigation and no further information can be released at this time," the department added.

Greene, a firebrand lawmaker known for making highly controversial comments, has agitated the left by forcefully opposing sex-change procedures or cross-sex hormone prescriptions for gender-dysphoric minors. Last week, Greene said she will introduce legislation that would criminalize puberty blockers and sex-change surgeries for children, decrying so-called "gender-affirming care" as "child abuse" and "genital mutilation."

A spokesman for Greene said that safety was her office's "number one concern" after the swatting attack.

"Late last night, she was a victim of a political attack on her family and home. Whoever committed this violent crime will face the full extent of the law," Greene spokesman Nick Dyer told the Rome News-Tribune.

Several prominent left-wing figures cast doubt on Greene's story after she reported what happened Wednesday. Others mocked her and said she deserved to be harassed or questioned whether she staged the incident to "smear trans rights activists."

"If you're wondering why I don't believe that MTG was 'swatted' last night, it's because she's actively trying to fear monger people about the FBI," lawyer Elie Mystal tweeted.

Famed author Salman Rushdie attacked in New York, stabbed in neck as he was set to deliver lecture

Famed British-Indian author Salman Rushdie was attacked in western New York on Friday as he was about to give a lecture.

Witnesses saw a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and assault Rushdie as he was being introduced, the Associated Press reported. The 75-year-old author was reportedly stabbed several times and fell to the floor. The assailant was restrained and taken into custody.

Bystanders rushed to the author's aide and held up his legs, presumably to send more blood to his chest, the AP reported.

Hundreds of people in the audience watched in horror during the attack and were then evacuated from the scene.

Rushdie was flown to a hospital. His condition is unknown.

"On August 12, 2022, at about 11 a.m., a male suspect ran up onto the stage and attacked Rushdie and an interviewer. Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. His condition is not yet known," New York State Police Major Eugene Staniszewski said in a statement.

"The interviewer suffered a minor head injury. A State Trooper assigned to the event immediately took the suspect into custody. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene," Staniszewski added.

Rushdie's novel, "The Satanic Verses," is highly controversial among Muslims, as some consider it to be blasphemous. In 1988, Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for the death of Rushdie and his publishers.

Iran has offered a bounty of over $3 million to anyone who kills Rushdie.

Though the Iranian government has since distanced itself from Khomeini's edict, the fatwa is still in effect to this day. Iranian leadership insists only the person who issued a fatwa may withdraw it, according to journalist Yashar Ali. Khomeini has been dead for more than 30 years.

“No idea what the motive is here, but everyone should remember that the bounty on Salman Rushdie’s head from the Iranian government remains active and the Twitter account of Iran’s supreme leader was locked a few years ago for reminding people of that.”

In 2012, an Iranian religious foundation raised the bounty on Rushdie's head from $2.8 million to $3.3 million.

Rushdie downplayed the threat at the time, saying there was "no evidence" anyone was interested in claiming the reward.

That same year, Rushdie published a memoir, "Joseph Anton," about the fatwa. The title was taken from the pseudonym he had used while in hiding.

The Chautauqua Institution, located about 55 miles southwest of Buffalo in a rural part of New York, is known for its summertime lecture series, the AP reports. Rushdie has given lectures there before.

Cardi B weighs in on inflation, says 'everything is high'

In a recent interview, rapper and provocateur Cardi B flexed her political bona fides while discussing inflation and Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign with celebrity journalist Billy Bush.

Largely, the interview provided the "WAP" rapper an opportunity to plug her new vodka-infused whipped cream called “Whipshots,” but towards the end, Bush suggested she send a bottle to her “old friend Bernie Sanders for Valentine’s Day.”

When asked whether or not she keeps up with politics, nowadays, Cardi B said, “I haven’t really been keeping up with a lot of political stuff because it’s just getting very overwhelming. There's certain things that, like, I was looking last year or, like, two years ago, and the market is extremely high.”

“And that’s just, let’s say, when it comes to homes, everything is high,” she continued, “the food is high, the products are high. We can’t even get products from certain countries.”

Earlier in the interview, Billy Bush remarked that Cardi B’s interactions with Bernie Sanders were his favorite moments from the 2020 election cycle.

Today @iamcardib and I finally met. We had a great conversation about the future of America.

And let me tell you: Cardi B is right.

Together, we’ll get millions of young people involved in the political process and transform this country. The rapper’s comments on the economy come as the country experiences historic levels of inflation. Recent reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that the consumer price index rose to an annual rate of 7.5%. This is the highest inflation has been in 40 years.

Cardi B noted that prices are increasingly “high,” and she is correct. The price of a new vehicle is up 12%, the average monthly rent has increased 4.36%, food has risen 7%, and used vehicles have increased in price by more than 40%.

Her statements on the rising costs of living indicated that inflation is an issue that affects all Americans, albeit the wealthy — such as Cardi B — are better positioned to withstand the rising costs of essential day-to-day products.

This is not the first time Cardi B has ventured into political commentary. This recent commentary, and her various endorsements and public appearances on behalf of certain candidates, are only part of her political persona.

Cardi B’s politics are likely best identified by her very public online feuds with conservative commentator Candace Owens resulting in threats of litigation.

Yes. Just spoke with my family. I am 100% suing Cardi for that nonsense. You can’t just start throwing out wild lies against private members of my family because you’re upset someone called your out on your degenerate performance.
I‘ll keep you all posted.https://twitter.com/Lordflashh3art/status/1371959036531372033 …

Muslim actress makes headlines after quoting Hitler in tweet as Hamas launches rockets into Israel: 'I would have killed all of the Jews of the world'

Actress Veena Malik — sometimes known as Zahida Malik — raised eyebrows after she tweeted a quote she attributed to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, which referenced killing Jews across the world.

Malik's tweet came at a time when clashes between Israel and Palestine have hit a fevered pitch.

What are the details?

According to a Wednesday report from the Post Millennial, the 37-year-old Pakistani Muslim actress tweeted a graphic that read, "I would have killed all the Jews of the world ... but I kept some to show the world why I killed them. Adolf Hitler"

It remains unknown whether the Nazi dictator ever actually uttered or wrote those words.

While the offending tweet is gone, the actress's Twitter page remains active at the time of this reporting.

New York Magazine writer Yashar Ali captured the tweet before it was deleted.

Ali tweeted, "How is this still up???" and later added, "This tweet is now gone along with a bunch of other tweets on her account. Looking forward to an apology from all those who doubted me."

— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) 1620786746.0

What else?

The actress has yet to issue a statement of apology or clarification at the time of this reporting.

According to OpIndia, Malik has been recently outspoken in her condemnation of Jews.

The outlet reported, "Malik has since been glorifying the attack on Israelis and cheering the death and destruction. In her subsequent tweets in Urdu, she urged Muslims to not be disheartened and said that if they are truly 'believers,' then they would be proud."

On Tuesday night, Palestinians carried out ruthless attacks on Israelis with rockets and more.

Amid the chaos, Israeli city of Lod Mayor Yair Revivo compared the deadly attacks to the Nazi campaign of death against Jews and said, "This is Kristallnacht."

In remarks, Revivo implored the nation's prime minister to declare a state of emergency.

"This is Kristallnacht in Lod," said Mayor Yair Revivo. "I have called on the prime minister to declare a state of emergency in Lod. To call in the [Israel Defense Forces]. To impose a curfew. To restore quiet. ... There is a failure of governance. ... This is a giant incident — an Intifada of Arab Israelis. All the work we have done here for years [on coexistence] has gone down the drain."

He added, "All of Israel should know, this is a complete loss of control. ... This is unthinkable. Synagogues are being burned. Hundreds of cars set alight. Hundreds of Arab thugs are roaming the streets. ... Civil war has erupted in Lod. ... The Orthodox-nationalist community here has guns. I'm imploring them to go back home but they understandably want to protect their homes. Petrol bombs are being thrown into [Jewish] homes. The situation is incendiary."

According to the New York Post, Hamas on Tuesday fired at least 130 rockets at Tel Aviv alone.

Liberals claimed CPAC stage was Nazi symbol. But company whose founder is 'very liberal' designed stage.

Liberals claimed over the weekend that the stage used at the Conservative Political Action Conference resembled symbols used by German Nazis.

But, as it turned out, the stage was designed by a Maryland-based company that designed stages for President Joe Biden and whose owner is a Biden supporter.

Who designed the stage?

According to Forward, the company responsible for designing the stage, Design Foundry, said the stage was designed to make best use of the conference space — not to propagate Nazi hate.
The company told Forward that it "had no idea that the design resembled any symbol, nor was there any intention to create something that did."
In fact, the contract between Design Foundry and the American Conservative Union — the umbrella organization that hosts CPAC — stipulates that Design Foundry alone is responsible for the stage design.
"The designs, renderings, drawings, specifications, materials and other documents used or created as part of the proposal are owned by Design Foundry," the contract states, according to Forward.
Meanwhile, Design Foundry has also worked with MSNBC, Google, Target, and Citibank, among other major companies.
Additionally, journalist Yashar Ali revealed that Design Foundry has worked with Biden and that the company's owner is "very liberal" and supports Biden.
I know Design Foundry because they handle design for many events in DC for companies like MSNBC & Target. They oversaw the design for the Biden Cancer Summit in 2018.The owner, Annie, is very liberal and was so excited for Biden's victory. Great work conspiracy theorists.

Also worth noting that many of her employees are liberal. So many of you decided to go after something without any reporting or knowledge about who was responsible for the design. And before you ding her for working for CPAC, you try having an events business during a pandemic.

What is the background?

Viral social media posts claimed over the weekend the stage used at CPAC was designed to resemble Nazi insignia.

Despite objections from CPAC organizers saying their stage was not, in fact, a Nazi symbol, Hyatt Hotels, which hosted CPAC at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando, Florida, appeared to lend legitimacy to the outcry by responding to the charges.

"We take the concern raised about the prospect of symbols of hate being included in the stage design at CPAC 2021 very seriously as all such symbols are abhorrent and unequivocally counter to our values as a company," Hyatt said.

What did CPAC say?

The organization said it would no longer work with Design Foundry.

"It's clear that the company we retained designed a stage that has become an unwelcome distraction. As a result, we will not be using that company's services going forward at future events," Ian Walters, director of communications for the ACU and CPAC, told Forward.

Drowning in scandal, the Lincoln Project faces accusations of grift, covering up sex abuse, and potentially breaking the law

The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump super PAC founded by a group of former Republican consultants united by their shared hatred of the former president, is by all public accounts in utter crisis.

The organization in recent months was racked by allegations that one of its co-founders, John Weaver, was guilty of sexual misconduct and now faces demands from six former employees to be released from nondisclosure agreements to discuss Weaver's conduct.

Former members of the PAC's leadership are speaking out, demanding an independent probe into the allegations and how the Lincoln Project responded to them. Additionally, there are also questions about how the PAC spends donor money, and on Wednesday there was a nasty public controversy with a former employee on social media.

Turmoil erupted after Weaver, 61, a former aide to the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and ex-Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) was accused of sexual misconduct by at least 21 young men, including one who was just 14 years old at the time. He is now reportedly under FBI investigation. The accusations were first reported by the American Conservative in January and Weaver issued a public apology to the men he sexually harassed.

After the allegations were made public, the Lincoln Project issued a statement claiming, "the totality of his deceptions are beyond anything any of us could have imagined and we are absolutely shocked and sickened by it." As some critics pointed out, the phrasing of that statement seemed to indicate that at least some of the allegations against Weaver were known to members of the Lincoln Project before the American Conservative broke the story.

A bombshell report from the Associated Press on Thursday confirmed that "at least 10 specific allegations of harassment" against Weaver, "including two involving Lincoln Project employees," were known and discussed by the organization's leadership in June 2020. A New York magazine article offered more details, including testimony from one of the men who says he was sexually harassed by Weaver and a report of a June 17 email sent to co-founder Ron Steslow about the allegations against Weaver:

On June 17, a person working at the Lincoln Project sent an email to co-founder Steslow that reported ten allegations of Weaver's harassing men, including at least one employee at the Lincoln Project; three people independently described the contents of the email to Intelligencer and said it warned Weaver could be using his position at the company to make promises of career advancement to prey on young men. The complaint called Weaver's predatory behavior an immediate threat to the company that, if it became public, could render a death blow to the Lincoln Project's reputation. As the complaint noted, the Lincoln Project itself was attacking Trump as a sexual predator. Steslow raised the email with his fellow co-founder Galen and corporate counsel Matthew Sanderson, the AP reported. Yet Weaver's harassment continued. (Weaver did not respond to requests for comment.)

The Washington Blade further reported leaked electronic communications that date back to August 2020 and include co-founder Mike Madrid that show leadership was made aware of allegations about Weaver from reporters who were investigating it. The communications also show discussions were underway on how to respond to fallout from a potential scandal.

The very real scandal that came in January prompted at least one of the PAC's co-founders, former New Hampshire GOP Chair Jennifer Horn, to leave the group last week citing Weaver's "grotesque" conduct. Six other former employees are speaking out too, demanding in an open letter published by the New York Times that the Lincoln Project waive their nondisclosure agreements so they can disclose information "that would aid the press, public and our donors in answering questions relevant to the public interest."

These former employees made their concerns public because they believe the leadership of the Lincoln Project worked to protect Weaver.

"Expecting victims and those close to victims to contact and engage the people and organization accused of protecting the very predator at issue is absurd, unreasonable and insensitive," they wrote.

Horn also told the Times that she had learned other leaders of the group had ignored warnings about Weaver's misconduct.

"When I spoke to one of the founders to raise my objections and concerns, I was yelled at, demeaned and lied to," she wrote in a statement.

The PAC's other founders include Steve Schmidt, a GOP political strategist who worked on President George W. Bush's presidential campaign, former John McCain adviser Reed Galen, and political ad maker Rick Wilson.

Attorney George Conway was also a founding member of the PAC, but left in August 2020 and has publicly called for an "independent counsel" to investigate the allegations of misconduct and "provide a full accounting of the facts to everyone who worked at the organization, as well as all those who contributed to it."

Schmidt denied the reports from the AP and New York Magazine, claiming that Lincoln Project leadership was never aware of any of the allegations against Weaver.

"No Lincoln Project employee, intern, or contractors ever made an allegation of inappropriate communication about John Weaver that would have triggered an investigation by HR or by an outside employment counsel," Schmidt told the AP. "In other words, no human being ever made an allegation about any inappropriate sexualized communications about John Weaver ever."

But the Weaver scandal is just the beginning of the Lincoln Project's problems.

The AP's report also raises serious questions about how the super PAC is spending donor dollars. The Lincoln Project's pitch to progressive donors was that "independent-leaning men, those college-educated Republicans, the suburban Republican women" could be convinced to throw Trump-supporting Republicans out of office with the right messaging. And the left responded. The AP reported that the Lincoln Project successfully raised more than $90 million dollars since its inception, spending about $27 million on the production of a few sleek online anti-Trump advertisements that went viral, but ultimately failed to convince Republican voters to abandon Trump.

And the rest of the money? According to the AP, more than $50 million was paid to firms controlled by the group's leaders. In other words, more than half of all the donor dollars raised reportedly filled the PAC's leaders' pockets instead of fulfilling their promises to donors. But it's difficult to say exactly how much the Lincoln Project's founders paid themselves.

From the AP:

The vast majority of the cash was split among consulting firms controlled by its founders, including about $27 million paid to a small firm controlled by Galen and another $21 million paid to a boutique firm run by former Lincoln Project member Ron Steslow, campaign finance disclosures show.

But in many cases it's difficult to tell how much members of the group were paid. That's because the Lincoln Project adopted a strategy, much like the Trump campaign they criticized, to mask how much money they earned.

While several firms did collect payments, Weaver and Wilson are not listed in publicly available records. They were likely paid as subcontractors to those firms, an arrangement that avoids disclosure. Schmidt collected a $1.5 million payment in December but quickly returned it.

"We fully comply with the law," Schmidt said. "The Lincoln Project will be delighted to open its books for audit immediately after the Trump campaign and all affiliated super PACs do so, explaining the cash flow of the nearly $700 million that flowed through their organizations controlled by Brad Parscale and Jared Kushner."

On the heels of these controversies, the Lincoln Project had an embarrassing public dispute with former co-founder Horn this week when the PAC's Twitter account published screenshots of private Twitter direct messages between Horn and journalist Amanda Becker with 19th News.

The screenshots appear to have been published in retaliation for Horn's willingness to speak to the media about the Weaver scandal.

"Earlier this evening, we became aware that @AmandaBecker of @19thnews was preparing to publish a smear job on the Lincoln Project with the help of @NHJennifer," the Lincoln Project tweeted in what was the beginning of a lengthy since-deleted thread. "You hear a lot of talk about hit-jobs in journalism, but rarely do you get to see their origin story. Enjoy."

The Lincoln Project was met with fierce backlash for its tweets, including condemnation from former employee and co-founder Conway, who warned the tweets might be a "violation of federal law."

So far, the Lincoln Project has not made a statement about why the tweets featuring screenshot's of Horn's direct messages were deleted.

The group on Thursday released a general statement accusing "recently published stories about the Lincoln Project" of being "filled with inaccuracies, incorrect information, and reliant on exclusively anonymous sources."

Outrage: Stock broker service Robinhood shuts down trading of GameStop

Popular stockbroker services were accused of manipulating the market by angry social media users Thursday after Robinhood, Interactive Brokers, and others took steps to restrict trading of GameStop, AMC Entertainment, Nokia, and other "volatile" stocks.

The financial world was captivated this week by the sudden and tremendous rise of video game retailer GameStop's stock price after millions of individual, non-professional "retail" investors decided to buy the stock in an attempt to "squeeze" hedge fund investors planning to short it. These retail investors, who congregate to discuss their trades on the website Reddit in a forum called WallStreetBets, were successful in driving GameStop's stock up from about $17 last week to a high of $376 on Wednesday.

The hedge fund investors attempting to short GameStop stock lost more than $5 billion because of the WallStreetBets campaign. After the news of what was happening went mainstream and some financial analysts began accusing the retail investors of WallStreetBets of manipulating the market, popular stockbroker services used by retail traders began restricting trades of GameStop and other shorted stocks caught up in the buying frenzy. Customers awoke on Thursday morning to find that they could no longer buy GameStop, AMC Entertainment, BlackBerry, Nokia, and other stocks, and could only close their current positions.

Robinhood, a company that prides itself on "democratizing finance for all" by letting customers trade stocks on their smartphone app, issued the following statement:

"We continuously monitor the markets and make changes where necessary. In light of recent volatility, we are restricting transactions for certain securities to position closing only, including $AMC, $BB, $BBBY, $EXPR, $GME, $KOSS, $NAKD and $NOK. We also raised margin requirements for certain securities."

Margin requirements are the amount of money an investor using Robinhood must have in their account in order to buy a stock.

Interactive Brokers, another stock trading service, also made a statement explaining the trade restrictions to CNBC:

"As of midday yesterday, (1/27/2021) Interactive Brokers has put AMC, BB, EXPR, GME, and KOSS option trading into liquidation only due to the extraordinary volatility in the markets. In addition, long stock positions will require 100% margin and short stock positions will require 300% margin until further notice. We do not believe this situation will subside until the exchanges and regulators halt or put certain symbols into liquidation only. We will continue to monitor market conditions and may add or remove symbols as may be warranted."

Customers are furious. Users on the WallStreetBets forum immediately accused Robinhood and other brokers of preventing them from buying these stocks to protect the hedge funds and Wall Street "suits." Some have called for a class action lawsuit against Robinhood, writing "allowing people only to sell is the definition of market manipulation." Others are encouraging other investors to hold their positions, reasoning that Robinhood and other brokers are trying to incentivize users to sell their stocks to bring GameStop and other surging stock prices down.

Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy became one of the fiercest critics of Robinhood after he said on Wednesday that he put $1 million into AMC and Nokia stock.

Rush Limbaugh, Dan Bongino, Mark Levin take action against Twitter after platform permanently bans Trump

Conservative radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, along with commentator Dan Bongino, departed Twitter this week after the social media network permanently banned President Donald Trump from the platform.

What happened?

Conservatives noticed Friday that Limbaugh's account was no longer active, causing many to assume that Twitter had banned Limbaugh.

However, Twitter told a CNN reporter that it did not suspend Limbaugh's account. Instead, Limbaugh deactivated the account.

Indeed, Twitter notes when it suspends an account, writing on a suspended account, "Account suspended" and "Twitter suspends accounts which violate the Twitter Rules." As of Saturday morning, Limbaugh's account read, "This account doesn't exist."

Meanwhile, Bongino, who has nearly 3 million followers on Twitter, announced his departure from the platform after Twitter temporarily suspended his account on Thursday.

"I'm leaving the platform permanently for Parler. I'll post my final tweet and message for Twitter tomorrow when the 12-hour lockdown ends," told the Washington Examiner. "F*** these a**holes."

"Twitter needs me, I don't need them. I provide them with content. Hopefully, this leads to more high-profile accounts leaving Twitter," Bongino said.

Levin also said that he was leaving Twitter for good as a "protest" against "Twitter's fascism."

"I have suspended my own Twitter account in protest against Twitter's fascism. I ask all my followers to join me now on Parler and Rumble," Levin announced Friday.

What's the background?

After the U.S. Capitol riots on Wednesday, social media platforms and online services began taking action against Trump. After intimately suspending Trump's account, Twitter decided late Friday to permanently ban Trump from the platform, citing "risk of further incitement of violence."

The action against Trump appeared to be part of a broader campaign to cleanse Twitter of accounts that have been promoting conspiracy theories and false claims about the election, which are believed to be at least partly responsible for the deadly riots at the Capitol.

On Friday, conservative personalities began noticing their follower numbers dip, bringing attention to what some are called a "purge" of right-leaning accounts.

However, Twitter denied they were engaging in a censorship campaign.

"As part of our work to protect the integrity of the conversation on Twitter, we regularly challenge accounts to confirm account details such as email and phone number. Until the accounts confirm additional account information, they are in a locked state and do not count towards follower counts," the platform told the Washington Examiner.
