'I'm with Tucker': Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre urges Fox News boycott

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has publicly declared his support for Tucker Carlson and called for a boycott of Fox News.

"I'm with Tucker. Time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak," Favre tweeted on Monday.

Two weeks ago, Fox News Media claimed in a press release that the network and Carlson had "agreed to part ways." But Carlson did not appear to anticipate the split because during what turned out to be his last episode, he had signed off by saying, "We'll be back on Monday."

Reports indicate that Carlson is still under contract with the company. Favre's tweet contains a video that features Megyn Kelly suggesting that Fox and Carlson have not reached a deal and that Fox is muzzling Carlson and expecting that viewers will still tune in to the channel.

"They are banking on you coming back to them," Kelly said on her show last week. "That's what's happening here. Keep him silent on the sidelines for as long as possible," Kelly said.

The video Favre posted also features clips of Carlson, and near the end of the video, on-screen text urges people to "BOYCOTT FOX NEWS!"

Shortly after his show was nixed, Carlson released a brief video on Twitter that has amassed more than 24 million views.

Fox's ratings have taken a hit without Carlson helming the 8 p.m. primetime slot, and some people have canceled their subscriptions to the Fox Nation streaming service.

"My family is boycotting FoxNews. We watched it daily. No more," one person wrote in response to Favre's tweet.

"I'm with Tucker! I'm done with FOX News!" someone else wrote.

Humanoid robots may account for 4% of manufacturing labor force by 2030, Goldman Sachs predicts

In Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s 1952 novel "Player Piano," the nation's managerial class rendered workers — off fighting in the third world war — obsolete by replacing them with machines.

The investment banking firm Goldman Sachs has suggested in a new report that America need not wait for war. In fact, the corporation said America by 2030 will be well on its way to replacing human bodies with metal ones.

A humanoid in every home

Goldman Sachs estimated that in 10 to 15 years, the humanoid robots market will have a market size of approximately $6 billion. Accordingly, it will be capable of filling 4% of the U.S. manufacturing labor needs by 2030 and 2% of global elderly care demand by 2035.

CNBC reported that in Goldman Sachs' "blue-sky scenario," where the "hurdles of product design, use case, technology, affordability and wide public acceptance [are] completely overcome," the humanoid robots market could reach $152 billion by 2035. As a point of comparison, that would be one-third of the global smartphone market circa 2021.

“The next Car/Phone?

Goldman forecasts that humanoid robots could have the potential to become the next widely adopted device after smartphones & cars:”
— Brett Adcock (@Brett Adcock) 1667400014

While labor shortages may previously have been resolved with higher wages or shifts in educational focus, they might soon be remedied with machines such as Tesla's humanoid robot prototype, the "Optimus."

“JUST IN: Tesla, $TSLA officially unveils AI bot 'Optimus'

”
— Watcher.Guru (@Watcher.Guru) 1664587480

Like Goldman Sachs, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is similarly bullish concerning the humanoid robot market.

Reuters reported that Musk indicated his robots — he intends to make millions of them — will soon be more valuable than his cars.

Musk's stated goal is an ambitious one: to get the production cost of each humanoid robot under $20,000 and to lead the creation of a "quasi-infinite" economy. He hopes to get the cheaper iteration of the robot to consumers in "three to five years."

According to Musk, some successor of the Optimus might be used in homes to make dinners, mow the lawn, care for geriatrics, and also service humans' emotional needs.

Clearly, Goldman Sachs does not consider Musk's outlook too audacious.

CNBC reported that in achieving this end, Goldman Sachs recognizes investment opportunities in motion components, gyroscope/inertia measurement units "to keep the robot's balance," sensing modules (e.g., involving camera, radar, ultrasonic, and lidar sensors), and in software and hardware.

Job terminator

Automation is hardly a new trend. A 2020 study out of MIT suggested that from 1990 to 2007, "adding one additional robot per 1,000 workers reduced the national employment-to-population ratio by about 0.2 percent." Put another way, "each additional robot added in manufacturing replaced about 3.3 workers nationally, on average."

According to the MIT study, adding robots to the workplace also depressed wages by approximately 0.4%.

The Foundation for Economic Education put a positive spin on this trend in 2017, suggesting that outmoded human workers could be retrained and deployed in other departments and that improved efficiencies due to automation could mean pay increases or more (albeit different) jobs.

A 2018 PricewaterhouseCoopers report indicated that nearly 40% of jobs in the U.S. were at risk of automation.

Forbes reported that while 30% of all tasks were done by machines in 2020, a 50-50 balance would be realized by 2025.

The World Economic Forum estimated in its "Future of Jobs Report 2020" that 85 million jobs will be displaced by artificial intelligence and another 97 million new jobs would be created by 2025.

Whereas clunky, large, and faceless machines have long been taking the place of human beings, the sun has dawned on a new era of mobile robots endowed with AI, increasingly articulable claws, and anthropomorphic features.

Democrat indicted in savage killing of Las Vegas journalist, ousted from office. Victim 'was willing to speak truth to power and it cost him his life.'

A Democrat was indicted for murder Thursday in the grisly slaying last month of a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter and ousted from office.

What are the details?

Robert Telles, 45, allegedly ambushed and killed Jeff German "willfully, unlawfully, with malice aforethought" on Sept. 2 after German penned a series of investigative articles detailing the Democrat's alleged misconduct and unethical behavior as Clark County Public Administrator in Nevada.

Telles, removed from office by court order earlier this month, is said to have lost his primary election in June to fellow Democrat Rita Reid partly as a result of the victim's investigative reporting.

German had written about hostilities, inappropriate relations, and "turmoil" inside Telles' county office.

Rita Reid told the Daily Beast that German "was willing to speak truth to power and it cost him his life."

Telles responded to German on Twitter, writing via his now-deleted account: "Typical bully. Can't take a pound of critism [sic] after slinging 100 pounds of BS. Up to article #4 now. You'd think he'd have better things to do."

Prosecutors indicated that the video and DNA evidence they say implicates Telles in German's murder is overwhelming, suggesting it was the former politician who couldn't take criticism.

Telles, a gun-control advocate who had once written to U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) saying, "There are folks on the other side that really want us at each other's throats," allegedly went to German's home and stabbed him multiple times.

If convicted, Telles may face the death penalty. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson has yet to announce whether or not he will be seeking that sentence.

Denied bail once again on Tuesday, Telles remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

Silencing the press

A murder investigation began Sept. 3 after German's body was found outside his home, six miles away from Telles' residence. The Clark County coroner ruled German's death a homicide resulting from "multiple sharp force injuries."

Three days later, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department released images of a possible suspect carrying a bag and wearing a reflective orange shirt and a broad-brimmed straw hat. The LVMPD also revealed images of a maroon GMC Yukon Denali, which had been near the crime scene around the time of the murder.

LVMPD Sheriff Joe Lombardo indicated someone had been seen driving the vehicle "suspiciously" around the neighborhood and confirmed the suspect had used it to leave the area. The vehicle depicted was a maroon GMC Yukon Denali.

Cpt. Dori Koren later noted that the vehicle was registered to Telles' wife.

The LVMP executed a search warrant on Sept. 7 at Telles' home and towed two vehicles, one of which was the GMC observed near the crime scene.

Telles arrived home at 2:20 p.m., hours after police had completed their search of his house.

Ignoring reporters' questions, he shut himself inside his garage wearing "a white hazmat suit." When a police officer knocked on the front door, Telles refused to answer.

When Telles wouldn't open the door to police, a Las Vegas Police Department SWAT team was dispatched, which then made the arrest. Telles was taken out of his house on a stretcher.

Misappropriated funds allegation

After his arrest, Telles was stripped of his administrator position by court order. In that position he had handled the funds of people who died without a will, some of which he is alleged to have mishandled or misappropriated, hence the Nevada Supreme Court's recent suspension of his law license.

It's not just clients whose money Telles may have have mishandled.

According to the Review-Journal, taxpayers are on the hook for Telles' legal fees despite the fact that he owns six properties in Nevada and Arkansas with at least $200,000 in equity, along with a Las Vegas home valued around $600,000.

While the accused murderer claimed in court Sept. 20 that he was indigent and was assigned two Clark County public defenders, the AP noted that Telles and his wife were making $20,500 per month prior to his arrest.

'Typical bully'

Telles' arrest in September wasn't his first.

He also was arrested for domestic violence and resisting arrest March 1, 2020. His wife, Mae Ismael, called police asking for help in light of her husband "going crazy."

Telles allegedly grabbed his wife by the neck and struck her as they drunkenly made their way home from Bellagio casino.

Bodycam footage of the arrest shows the former office holder in an apparent drunken state. He can be heard telling police, "You guys just want to take me down because I'm a public official."

While the domestic battery charge was later dismissed, Telles received a suspended 90-day sentence on the resisting arrest charge.

Democrat county politician arrested in connection with brutal murder of journalist in Vegas

A Democrat county official in Nevada, Rob Telles, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday in the grisly Friday slaying of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German. Telles had once written to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) "There are folks on the other side that really want us at each other's throats."

After police searched his house and seized his vehicles (one resembling that driven by the suspected killer), Telles reportedly went into his garage dressed in what appeared to be a white hazmat suit and shut the door. When he refused to answer to police, a Las Vegas Police Department SWAT team was dispatched, which then made the arrest. Telles was taken out of his house on a stretcher.

Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, an advocate for gun control and an avid Warren supporter, is said to have lost his primary election in June to fellow Democrat Rita Reid, partly as a result of the victim's investigative reporting.

Reid told the Daily Beast that German "was willing to speak truth to power and it cost him his life."

In a series of articles investigating allegations of misconduct and unethical behavior, German had detailed hostilities, inappropriate relations, and "turmoil" inside Telles' county office, citing "allegations of emotional stress, bullying and favoritism leading to secret videotaping of the boss and a co-worker outside the office."

Telles had repeatedly denied the allegations and took to Twitter to repudiate German.

On September 5, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department released images of the suspect and his vehicle, noting they had "been working non-stop to identify and apprehend" the person responsible for German's killing. The images showed an individual in a reflective orange shirt and a broad-brimmed straw hat carrying a bag. The vehicle depicted was a maroon GMC Yukon Denali.

An investigation into German's murder prompted Las Vegas police to execute a search warrant at the home of Telles Wednesday morning. When conducting their search, police also shut down nearby roads.

At the Telles residence, police found and towed two vehicles, one of which was similar to the murder suspect's GMC. During their search, police also determined German's killing might have been related to the journalist's work exposing "public wrongdoing." German was reportedly planning a post-election follow-up story about Telles before he was cut down.

The executive editor of German's paper, Glenn Cook, said, "The arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage. ... We are relieved Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official."

Cook noted further, "Journalists can't do the important work our communities require if they are afraid a presentation of facts could lead to violent retribution." After thanking Las Vegas police for taking swift action, Cook indicated "the German family and Jeff's many friends can begin the process of mourning and honoring a great man and a brave reporter."

Tom Cruise interview from nearly 20 years ago sparks new debate about antidepressants and Scientology

An interview with Tom Cruise from nearly 20 years ago has resurfaced and sparked a new debate about antidepressants and Scientology.

A 2005 interview between Cruise and Matt Lauer – the then-host of the "Today" show – has recently gone viral. In the interview, the topic of actress Brooke Shields taking antidepressants to deal with postpartum depression was broached.

Cruise declared, "I think [Shields] is a wonderful and talented woman, and I want to see her do well. And I know that psychiatry is a pseudoscience."

Lauer advocated for Shields – who said she "considered swallowing a bottle of pills or jumping out the window at the lowest point of her depression following the birth of her daughter, Rowan Francis, in 2003," according to "Today." Shields said she overcame her suicidal thoughts after being prescribed the antidepressant Paxil.

Cruise rebutted, "Here we are today, where I talk out against drugs and psychiatric abuses of electroshocking people against their will; of drugging children without them not knowing the effects of these drugs."

Cruise asked Lauer, "Do you know what Adderall is? Do you know Ritalin? Do you know now that Ritalin is a street drug?"

Lauer admitted that there are abuses of prescription drugs.

“Here's the problem, you don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise proclaimed.

"All it does is mask the problem," Cruise said of the use of antidepressants. "That’s what it does. That’s all it does. You’re not getting to the reason why. There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance."

"I'm saying drugs aren't the answer," the action star said. "These drugs are very dangerous – they're mind-altering, antipsychotic drugs. And there are ways in doing it without that, so we don't end up in a brave new world."

Cruise calls Lauer "glib," and says the talk show host "doesn't even know was Ritalin is."

Cruise then challenges Lauer to find out more about Ritalin to educate his viewers.

The video went viral on Twitter last week, racking up more than 3.2 million views.

The Tom Cruise interview about antidepressants garnered much attention last week after a new study questioned whether antidepressants actually help people with depression.

Researchers from University College London released a study last week that concluded that there is "no clear evidence" that serotonin levels or serotonin activity is responsible for depression.

"The popularity of the 'chemical imbalance' theory of depression has coincided with a huge increase in the use of antidepressants," said professor Joanna Moncrieff, the study’s lead author. "Prescriptions for antidepressants have risen dramatically since the 1990s, with one in six adults in England and two percent of teenagers now being prescribed an antidepressant in a given year."

"Our view is that patients should not be told that depression is caused by low serotonin or by a chemical imbalance, and they should not be led to believe that antidepressants work by targeting these unproven abnormalities," Moncrieff noted.

Many online commentators praised Cruise for cautioning against antidepressants 17 years ago.

Podcast host Michael Knowles remarked, "This interview has aged like a fine wine."

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh said, "Tom Cruise has been mocked ruthlessly for this for the past 20 years and yet everything he said was 100 percent undeniably true."

Journalist Sharyl Attkisson added, "Not all that long ago, people were allowed to say these things in America without getting censored or canceled. Today? Not so much. Still, this file tape survives."

However, other online commentators argued that Cruise's position against antidepressants and psychiatry is the same stance as Scientology.

Podcast host Erick Erickson tweeted, "There’s no reason to normalize Tom Cruise’s statements on psychiatry because he is saying what you think. Cruise’s position comes from Scientology, which very much should not be given credit or normalized."

Former staff member of the Church of Scientology Aaron Smith-Levin explained, "Tom Cruise isn’t making the point you think he’s making. Behind his statement that psychiatric drugs only mask the problem lies his belief that ONLY Scientology can fix the 'real' problem. I.e., the reactive mind and Body Thetans."

Video shows BRAINWASHED mask crusader threaten, assault Costco worker for not wearing mask

As local health departments and the CDC revise COVID safety guidelines, several of the nation’s largest retailers have relaxed mask policies for customers and employees. But the decision to release the masses from COVID mask captivity isn't sitting well with everyone.

A video circulating on social media shows a man wearing a vented mask wielding a canister of pepper spray inside a Costco. In the video, the masked man stands pointing pepper spray just inches away from an employee's face. Then without warning, he lunges forward to shove the employee, then jumps back and shouts, "Stay away! You're threatening my life!"

At this point, a second employee, presumably a manager, intervenes. The unhinged masker now points the pepper spray at the second employee and also tells him to "stay away."

When the second employee complies and takes a step back, the masker says, "Thank you. Now tell that to this a**hole" and gestures to the first employee.

"You can't be threatening people in here with pepper spray, okay? Do you understand that? You cannot threaten people in here with pepper spray," the employee says calmly.

"I can! You're not a cop. You're not a lawyer," insists the masker, before stalking away.

The employee showed great restraint. The attacker probably has a disorder of some sort, and sometimes you have to show a little kindness. Hopefully the gentleman will get some help. I'm not being ironic.

If he believes in the mask, then he should believe that he is safe regardless of whether others wear masks or not. He just wanted to cause a disturbance.

'Chaotic night' leaves 2 dead, at least 8 injured in Virginia Beach oceanfront shootings

Two people are dead and at least eight people are injured, some in life-threatening condition, following multiple shootings in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Around 11:20 p.m. on Friday, police officers responded to multiple gunshots in the oceanfront resort area of Virginia Beach. Police discovered eight gunshot victims, and they were transported to local hospitals, according to a news release from the Virginia Police Department. "Some of these injuries range from serious to life-threatening," authorities said.

Police responded to additional gunfire in a nearby area, which led to an "individual being confronted by a uniformed Virginia Beach police officer, resulting in a police intervention shooting," WAVY-TV reported. The unidentified male, who was considered a possible suspect in the shooting, was shot and killed by police after the confrontation.

"A second person, a woman who wasn't part of the officer-involved shooting — and not believed to be a part of the original shooting incident at 20th Street and Atlantic Avenue — was also shot and killed Friday night," according to WAVY-TV.

A police officer was also struck by a vehicle. The cop was taken to the hospital; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"What you can see is we have a very chaotic incident, a very chaotic night in the Beach," said Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate. "Many different crime scenes."

There is no information on the suspects for the shootings available at this time, according to law enforcement officials. WAVY-TV reported that police took "multiple people in custody."

The officer who shot the potential suspect was a member of the Special Operations Division and has worked with the department for five years. The officer was placed on administrative assignment pending an investigation, per standard procedure, the department said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department's Detective Bureau, the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, and the Virginia Beach Police Department's Office of Internal Affairs.

The shootings in Virginia Beach follow recent mass shootings in Atlanta, which left eight people dead, and Boulder, where there were 10 casualties.

During a town hall-style event that took place last week on Sinclair's "America This Week with Eric Bolling" the former quarterback — who appeared virtually — asked the president, "The NBA and the NFL are struggling with lower ratings, as fans clearly do not want political messaging mixed with their sports. So how should the leagues support and promote an anti-racism position without becoming political and alienating fans?"

Trump in response replied that Americans are entitled to free expression, but shouldn't distract from sports games, and should not protest during the national anthem.

“If people want to protest, they can," Trump responded. "But they shouldn't be protesting on the sidelines during the football game, especially when they are making $10 million a year for something that they'd be doing anyway, for free if they weren't in the NFL or in the NBA."

The president added that Americans have got "enough politic with me and with everybody else."

"[T]hey don't want to see it with football or sports or Sunday or whenever they happen to be watching," he pointed out.
