CNN reporter tries to slam McCarthy over Trump's handling of classified docs — but McCarthy turns the tables on the liberal cable network

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy slammed CNN on Monday for selective outrage when government officials "weaponize" their power and access.

McCarthy was speaking about the indictment of Donald Trump for allegedly retaining classified documents and obstructing the government's attempts to retrieve them. The House speaker claimed "the idea of equal justice is not playing out here."

Then he set his sights on CNN specifically.

"Now you're with CNN, right?" McCarthy asked CNN reporter Lauren Fox.

"OK, so let's talk about this even further, because when somebody weaponizes government and they actually get removed from government, let's take Andrew McCabe, OK, former –"

"But this is a different case, this is a different set of circumstances, right?" Fox interjected. "I mean, the former president is accused of misleading law enforcement, of a conspiracy of obstructing justice — that's a different set of facts. Are you prepared to defend him as the former president, and what other actions will the House take in the House Judiciary Committee, in terms of funding?"

Before Fox interrupted, McCarthy was about to ask why CNN hired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was fired after the DOJ inspector general discovered he leaked sensitive information to the media and then lied about his actions.

"Are you prepared to defend your network's, CNN's —" McCarthy said before being interrupted again.

"I'm asking you a question, Mr. Speaker," Fox interjected.

"I'm answering your question. You could ask me any question you want. ... You can't put words in my mouth," McCarthy fired back. "Even though your network can hire Andrew McCabe, who was fired from the FBI for leaking classified documents. Did you remove him from your network? No, you continued to put him on to give judgment against President Trump."

“Kevin McCarthy just murdered CNN. Holy hell. I bet this won’t air. Enjoy:”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1686599839

When McCarthy then turned to CNN's decision to hire former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Fox interrupted him again, repeating her question about FBI funding.

But McCarthy ignored it and made his point about Clapper, who helped spread disinformation about the Hunter Biden laptop.

"Are you prepared to get rid of those people from your network? Because my concern as a policy maker is that when you weaponize government and now you’re weaponizing networks, that is wrong," he said.

"So we will take all of our power to make sure that the legal system in America gets the blinders back on and people are treated fairly. I have a real problem that your network actually pays people who did classified information and then lied to the American public to try to influence a presidential election and then you put them on your network to give an opinion about a president," McCarthy added.

'Dangerous, offensive, disgusting': Senator Tim Scott crushes 'The View's' race-baiting words about him being the 'exception not the rule'

Senator Tim Scott appeared on talk show "The View" to combat comments made by the show's hosts just two weeks prior that he didn't quite grasp what it's like to be black in the United States, despite being a black man himself. Scott also called remarks that his life was an "exception" for black people, not a rule, "dangerous" and "disgusting."

Host Joy Behar recently claimed that Scott and other black Republicans didn't acknowledge systemic racism to the degree that she believes they should and implied that "pulling yourself by your bootstraps" was an unrealistic viewpoint.

"He's one of these guys, who, you know, he's like [Supreme Court Justice] Clarence Thomas, black Republican, believes in pulling yourself by your bootstraps rather than, to me, understanding the systemic racism that African-Americans face in this country, and other minorities," Behar said.

Scott recently announced that he was running for president, and appeared on "The View" on June 5, 2023, to combat the narrative the hosts were schilling about him. However, Behar did not appear on the episode for his rebuttal — instead, co-host Sunny Hostin had the most contentious exchange with the South Carolina politician.

"You have indicated that you don't believe in systemic racism," Hostin asked. "What is your definition of systemic racism?"

"One of the reasons I'm on the show is because of the comments that were made frankly on this show that the only way for a young African-American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule," Scott began. "That is a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today, that the only way to succeed is by being the exception."

"I will tell you that if my life is the exception, I can't imagine —" Scott continued before Hostin interrupted, saying "It is."

"But it's not actually," Scott declared. "It's been 114 years," the host added.

"The fact of the matter is we've had an African-American president, African-American vice president, we've had two African-American secretaries of the State, in my home city the police chief is an African-American who's now running for mayor. The head of the highway patrol for South Carolina is African-American," Scott listed. "In 1975, there is about 15% employment in the African-American community. For the first time in the history of the country it's under 5%."

“This is phenomenal. @SenatorTimScott just went on The View and absolutely dunked on the hosts on their own show. Enjoy:”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1685982850

America can be "measured in generations," Scott went on. "I look back at the fact that my grandfather, born in 1921 in Sally, South Carolina, when he was on a sidewalk, a white person was coming. He had to step off and not make eye contact. That man believed then, with some doubt now, in the goodness of America because he believed that having faith in God, faith in himself, and faith in what the future could hold for his kids would unleash opportunities in ways that you cannot imagine."

The senator went on to remark on how every major news network in the country has "African-American and Hispanic hosts." While he did not agree that "America has met its promise," he said the country should always strive to become a more perfect union.

Scott took issue with the program cutting to commercial during his responses and even faced boos after he said he took issue with what children were being "indoctrinated" with in regard to Disney.

ESPN was to raise 'progressive pride flag' — which includes transgender colors — at sports network's HQ for Pride Month

ESPN was to raise a "progressive pride flag" — which includes transgender colors — at the sports network's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, on Thursday, Fox News said. June 1 is the first day of Pride Month.

According to the Human Rights Organization, the progressive or "progress" flag adds white, pink, and light blue stripes to the traditional rainbow flag in order "to represent the Trans community."

What are the details?

Fox News said ESPN's decision to raise a Pride flag with a transgender highlight comes "only days after fellow reporters blasted ESPN broadcaster Samantha Ponder for arguing that trans women should not be competing in women’s sports."

OutKick's Clay Travis tweeted a screenshot of what appears to be an internal ESPN form announcing the progressive Pride flag-raising:

“ESPN will host a trans pride flag raise on campus tomorrow as part of pride month. It comes as the company advocates for men to play in women’s sports and refuses to support ⁦@samponder⁩, who was called a bigot for supporting women only in women’s sports.”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1685548997

The form indicates the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion event hosted by ESPN Equal was set to take place at 11 a.m. at the flagpole next to Building 9 — and that "rainbow cupcakes and lemonade will be served."

Fox News said ESPN has held Pride flag-raisings for a number of years.

Travis added in another tweet that "this flag is not the usual gay pride flag, it’s newly designed to incorporate trans rights and feels like a direct attack on any employee who doesn’t support men in women’s sports."

More from Fox News:

The flag-raising is occurring just several days after Ponder was criticized in a USA Today column for defending the views of former college athlete and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines.

"I barely said anything publicly abt this issue & I’ve had so many ppl msg me, stop me in the street to say thank you+ tell me stories abt girls who are afraid to speak up for fear of lost employment/being called hateful. It is not hateful to demand fairness in sports for girls," Ponder tweeted.

Columnist Nancy Armour, along with several other journals, accused Ponder of promoting "plain old bigotry" for standing against trans women competing on women’s teams.

Anything else?

Fox News said it reached out to Travis and ESPN for confirmation of the progressive Pride flag-raising event, adding that Travis replied that "it's real" and gave Fox News a sign-up link to the event "which contained the event’s title as well another short description of it." Here's the link.

ESPN declined to comment on the story, Fox News added.

Clay Travis conducted an experiment in which he gave out free beer at an event. He ended up with a cooler full of Bud Light: 'I'm not a marketing expert, but ...'

Good music outdoors on a hot night may go nicely with a cold beer, unless of course that beer is a Bud Light.

That's what OutKick founder Clay Travis discovered over the weekend when conducting an experiment on whether Nashville music fans would put the Anheuser-Busch controversy behind them and one of the company's signature drinks in hand.

Travis shared videos to Twitter Monday detailing his "weekend experiment," in which he offered passersby free beer at a concert in the Nashville area.

"Pick which beer you want," was the only prompt. Inside the cooler: a variety of beers including Bud Light.

According to Travis, "No one would take the Bud Light all night long. Big issue going forward for Bud Light is many don’t even want to be seen with product. They just pick another brand."

Rather than tacitly absolve Anheuser-Busch for having partnered with transvestic activist Dylan Mulvaney to celebrate his "365 Days of Girlhood," concert-goers reportedly opted for beers such as Yuengling.

TheBlaze previously reported that Yuengling struck a contrast with Bud Light's woke marketing in April with a straightforward ad that featured a picture of Yuengling beer and an American flag with the caption, "Yuengling, The Oldest Brewery In America. Independently Owned and Family Operated since 1829 because we make good beer."

Travis' first video, taken at 6:45 p.m., shows a cooler full of beer. His second video, reportedly taken at 10:15 p.m., shows a cooler emptied of all but Bud Light cans.

"I’m not a marketing expert, but the only beer left at the West Fest ... Bud Light," said Travis. "Not ideal. Not good."

“Weekend experiment. Beers in cooler at Nashville area event. Pick which beer you want. No one would take the Bud Light all night long. Big issue going forward for Bud Light is many don’t even want to be seen with product. They just pick another brand.”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1683560764

In a follow-up tweet, Travis noted, "Overall consumption of Bud Light is now down 26%. That’s an unmitigated disaster for the brand. And many are now avoiding the beer to avoid being mocked for drinking the beer. There’s no quick fix here, brand is slaughtered in red state beer drinking communities. Bet there is hardly any at SEC tailgates this fall."

The results of Travis' experiment appear to replicate that seen in the wild.

Last week, viral footage taken at Boston's Fenway Park showed that sports fans did their best to avoid at least one Bud Light concession stand.

@luistejadabostonrealtor

Fenway Park Bud light stand Ghost Town! #budlight #fenwaypark #redsox #massrealestate #realtor #bienesraices #jesuslovesyou #forsalebyowner #sellersagent #jesus

In the video, a bystander can be heard remarking, "Guys, this is so funny and bizarre." As he pans to the customer-less Bud Light stand, he adds, "That is every single Bud Light stand here at Fenway Park in Boston ... holy crap, they're in trouble."

While Bud Light was left in Travis' cooler, Michelob Ultra, another Anheuser-Busch beer, was snatched up. This trend may similarly change, beer industry expert Bump Williams told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"What’s happening now is that anybody that is a Bud Light drinker and switches to Michelob Ultra because they don’t want to be seen holding a Bud Light, someone down the bar is going to say, 'Hey, buddy, that’s an Anheuser-Busch product you’re holding.'"

TheBlaze indicated earlier this month that Bud Light has seen sales plunge 21% compared to the same week in 2022.

Beer Business Daily described the drop as a "shocking deterioration" of Bud Light's market share. "We've never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time," the newsletter said.

The number of beer cases sold has plummeted 26%.

Boycotts appear to have cost the beer's parent company, Anheuser-Busch, roughly $5 billion in losses.

Anhuser-Busch has since blamed a "third party ad agency" for its partnership with Mulaney, telling distributors that it has fired the marketing firm responsible, reported Fox News Digital.

Last week, Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris tried to downplay the company's foray into transgender propaganda as constituting "one can, one influencer, one post and not a campaign."

'A part of his choices': John McEnroe gets cut off by commentator while defending Novak Djokovic's unvaccinated history

Tennis legend John McEnroe and ESPN commentator Chris Fowler verbally jostled on-air during the celebration of famously unvaccinated tennis player Novak Djokovic's win at the Australian Open.

Djokovic was deported from Australia in 2022 over his vaccination status, even missing the U.S. Open tournament for the same reason. Australia had some of the strictest COVID-19 policies in the world, which included forcible confinement of its citizens in quarantine camps.

While Djokovic was celebrating his victory at the 2023 Australian Open, McEnroe began to recap what the pro had gone through in the year before regarding his deportation and inability to play in certain tournaments. While listing the obstacles, co-announcer Fowler argued that his disqualifications were fair.

"He got defaulted at the Open when he hits the lineperson by mistake, he gets deported out of Australia, doesn't get any points at Wimbledon, can't play the Open," McEnroe listed, before Fowler interjected.

"A part of his choices, to be fair. He made choices that led to that for some of those things," Fowler said.

"I think he should have been committed to play," McEnroe responded.

"OK, well, that’s a debate," Fowler replied. "He did make choices that led to that, but that’s forgot for the moment," he concluded.

“@ClayTravis @DjokerNole Did you hear @cbfowler cut off @JohnMcEnroe just as he's describing what happened last year? Amazing they won't let the talking points go even now”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1675005452

In 2022, McEnroe defended Djokovic regarding the U.S. Open, calling it "BS" that he was unable to compete:

"Well, first of all, I think it’s BS. That’s what I think. I think he should be allowed to play. My personal opinion, as I’ve been vaccinated, I had a booster shot, that’s up to the individual," McEnroe said.

"The guy is one of the greatest athletes in any sport. He’s very careful about anything he puts in his body," the legend continued in the summer of 2022.

"So, it’s frustrating to see at this point when we’re sitting here and all having a great time at an LAFC soccer game and that he’s not allowed into the country right now because he’s not vaccinated."

In 2023, an Italian tennis star named Camila Giorgi was accused of using a fake vaccine passport in order to compete in international tennis tournaments, which, like Djokovic, she would otherwise have been barred from playing in.

Attorney General Garland appoints special counsel to investigate Biden's potential mishandling of top-secret documents

The White House was not raided over President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents, which have turned up in at least two unauthorized stashes in recent days. Nevertheless, Biden may soon have to answer to the special counsel appointed Thursday by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Garland has tasked former Department of Justice official Robert K. Hur with investigating Biden for potential impropriety over his admitted transport and possession of classified documents.

One batch of classified documents that Biden reportedly retained from his tenure as vice president was discovered at the president's private office in a China-linked think tank in Washington, D.C.. Another batch was discovered at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

CNN noted that some of the documents were marked top secret.

Biden told reporters that he stored some of the classified documents in his garage beside his Corvette.

“Joe Biden says the classified documents were in a safe place because they were kept next to his corvette in his garage. Holy shit:”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1673539231

Hur, a Republican, served as the 48th U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland from 2018 to 2021. He was nominated for the role by former President Donald Trump.

Hur previously served as principal associate deputy attorney general with the U.S. Department of Justice, working with FBI Director Christopher Wray.

"In 2003, [Hur] joined the department's criminal division, where he worked on counterterrorism, corporate fraud and appellate matters. From 2007 until 2014, Mr. Hur served as an assistant US attorney for the district of Maryland, where he prosecuted matters ranging from violent crime to financial fraud," said Garland.

Axios indicated that Hur's appointment, which Garland said was in the "public interest," is intended to "avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest."

Garland may also want to avoid the appearance of inconsistency, granted that in November, he appointed Jack Smith special counsel for the criminal probe into whether former President Donald Trump, who had the power to declassify documents, mishandled sensitive documents.

In his announcement, Garland provided an outline for the investigation into Biden's potential malfeasance regarding the classified documents so far:

 • Nov. 4 — The National Archives Office of Inspector General contacted a DOJ prosecutor, informing him that the White House had notified the Archives that classified documents were found in Biden's Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement office. The office was not authorized to store classified documents.
 • Nov. 9 — The FBI began assessing whether the mishandling of the classified information violated federal law.
 • Nov. 14 — Garland assigned U.S. Attorney John Lausch Jr. to conduct a preliminary investigation to determine whether the attorney general should appoint a special counsel.
 • Dec. 20 — Biden's counsel told Lausch that additional classified Obama-era documents were identified in the president's Delaware home.
 • Jan. 5 — Lausch briefed Garland, making it clear that a special counsel was required.

Garland announced the special counsel on Jan. 12, just hours after news began circulating that another set of classified documents had been found.

"This appointment underscores for the public the department’s commitment to independence and accountability, and particularly sensitive matters and to making decisions indisputably guided only by the facts and the law," said Garland.

Garland added Hur will be given "all the resources he needs."

Hur suggested that he will "conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment."

"I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service," he added."

Biden's counsel indicated in a Jan. 12 statement the White House will cooperate with the DOJ.

Elon Musk calls New York Times 'lobbying firm for far-left politicians' after paper apparently ran no story about 'The Twitter Files'

Elon Musk on Saturday called the New York Times a "lobbying firm for far-left politicians" after the paper apparently ran no story about Friday's release of "The Twitter Files" — the trove of internal emails detailing the social media platform's censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election.

Emails also showed members of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden's inner circle reached out to Twitter and asked its personnel to "review" tweets — after which Twitter deleted them.

While journalist Matt Taibbi noted that those working for then-President Donald Trump also had access to Twitter for such requests, which Twitter also honored, it wasn't an equal enterprise.

"This system wasn't balanced. It was based on contacts. Because Twitter was and is overwhelmingly staffed by people of one political orientation, there were more channels, more ways to complain, open to the left (well, Democrats) than the right," Taibbi explained.

What did Musk tweet about the NYT?

Outkick.com founder Clay Travis tweeted Saturday that the Times' app was devoid of stories "this morning" on Musk or the Twitter "email release" Friday night.

Musk replied, "That is because The New York Times has become, for all intents and purposes, an unregistered lobbying firm for far-left politicians."

“@ClayTravis @Twitter @nytimes That is because The New York Times has become, for all intents and purposes, an unregistered lobbying firm for far left politicians”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1670074864

TheBlaze on Saturday evening ran searches on the Times' website for "Twitter" and "Elon Musk," and it returned no Friday or Saturday headlines addressing "The Twitter Files." The searches, however, returned the following headlines — all from Friday:

 • "Elon's Two-Day War with Apple + How to Beat an A.I. Censor + S.B.F.'s 'Bad Month'"
 • "Hate Speech's Rise on Twitter Is Unprecedented, Researchers Find"
 • "Twitter Keeps Missing Its Advertising Targets as Woes Mount"
 • "Kanye West Is Suspended From Twitter After Posting a Swastika"

Fox News, citing the Media Research Center’s Alex Christy, reported that all three major TV news networks – ABC, CBS, and NBC – ignored "The Twitter Files" story Friday evening.

Fox News said it reached out to the Times for comment on the issue but "did not hear back as of the time this article was published."

Oh, and in regard to the Times' story headlined "Hate Speech's Rise on Twitter Is Unprecedented, Researchers Find," Musk on Friday tweeted that the claim is "utterly false."

Biden kills an hour with TikTok 'influencers' brought to DC to receive Democrat marching orders

Eight people were flown to Washington, D.C., this week to meet with President Joe Biden. Their stated purpose was neither to bolster border security nor to address inflation but rather to utilize the Chinese-controlled social media app TikTok to help Democrats hold on to and secure more power.

Crystallizing public opinion

The Washington Post reported that a handful of so-called influencers, including Nia Sioux, Mona Swain, Vitus Spehar, Kat Wellington, and Mattie Westbrouck, were flown for free to D.C., where they met with Biden, former president Barack Obama, and leaders of both the Democratic National Committee and House Democrats' campaign committee.

Streaming their experiences, the influencers toured the Supreme Court and received a private tour of the Capitol.

The penultimate stop on their whirlwind visit was a news conference where the 79-year-old president claimed the COVID-19 mRNA booster "is going to be required" before sitting down to receive one himself.

Finally, in a detour planned directly by the White House, the influencers received an hour more of Biden's time than Americans along the southern border have received in person since he took office.

In the Oval Office, Biden reportedly explained why he got into politics and why the healthy young streamers should get COVID-19 mRNA boosters. He then walked them around the West Wing.

22-year-old Westbrouck, who has over 10.2 million followers on TikTok, said, "It felt like a little room tour but by the president."

Though Spehar, the host of the TikTok news channel "Under the Desk News," said Biden "didn't mention the election or voting," the influencers had already received their marching orders by the time they had reached the Oval Office.

High-level Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee staffers instructed the influencers on how they could best serve the interests of the party in the midterm election. The Post indicated that DCCC staffers highlighted key districts in battleground states where the influencers' help was required and could be used to great effect.

Obama, like Biden and other Democrats, impressed upon these prospective agents of the state how important it was that the Democrats win in the midterms.

"I genuinely think it's a scary time for people who can get pregnant and won't be able to have rights to an abortion," said 21-year-old Nia Sioux, who has 8.3 million followers. "I will be talking about my stance on that, and I will have more information in [my] social media content."

Kat Wellington, 24, similarly found the Democrat immersion trip activating. She said, "This trip helped me make the push to use my platform for that. I don't want to be afraid to share my genuine beliefs about politics, even if it's going to upset some people."

Rob Flaherty, the White House director of digital strategy, told the Post, "We know people listen to trusted messengers, and as an increasing number of young people turn to Instagram, TikTok and other platforms for news and information, we need to engage with the voices they trust directly."

Shelby Cole, deputy mobilization officer at the DNC, underscored the need for Democrats to exploit the reach of content creators to engage "young voters to remind them of the stakes in this election and how to make a plan to vote."

Vaccines and votes

In recent years, the Biden administration has invested a great deal of time and energy into leveraging TikTok to achieve its political ends.

Earlier this month, Judicial Watch obtained evidence of an extensive media campaign executed by the Biden administration aimed at driving up acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines. While records revealed the administration had colluded with establishment media, major corporations, and various institutions to advance its vaccine narrative, its messaging strategy also relied heavily upon social media influencers.

For instance, the Biden administration noted its intention to request "major TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram influencers to create videos of themselves being vaccinated and start a special campaign of funny and/or musical videos about being vaccinated to encourage others to create content and post."

The documents acquired through Judicial Watch's freedom of information lawsuit also revealed the administration's belief that in order to capture the minds of young people, it would have to "target endemic content creators, with a particular focus on Youtube, and TikTok."

17-year-old Ellie Zeiler was one of those paid by the Biden administration to push vaccines as part of the so-called "influencer army." Although just a high school student, Zeiler was useful to the administration because she had over 10 million followers.

Owing to influencers' perceived utility, they are often given preferential treatment.

TheBlaze noted last week that it's difficult to schedule an interview with Biden. He has only agreed to 28 interviews since taking office. Transsexual fetishist Dylan Mulvaney managed, however, to secure an exclusive interview with the president, which aired on Sunday. Mulvaney is a TikTok user with 8.3 million followers.

“This person just interviewed @joebiden in the White House.”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1666664919

Mulvaney was assigned priority, like the influencers invited to the White House this week, in part because the interview was able to deliver more eyeballs than the traditional media networks that Democrats have long depended upon, such as CNN, which frequently has trouble seizing even the interest of 600,000 viewers.

The Biden administration has used influencers to supplement its establishment media support since the beginning. The Washington Post reported that in 2020, TikTok for Biden assembled a collective of over 500 Tiktok users to endorse Biden.

In the face of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, top White House and National Security Council staffers met with influencers. Forbes reported that in March, persons whose only qualifications were comfort using a phone and access to a big audience were briefed on the war and prompted to disseminate the White House's narrative to their followers.

Compromised apparatchiks

While Democrats are relying more and more on TikTok influencers for strategic and governmental functions, they do so despite warnings that the platform is compromised in more than one way.

TikTok has censored conservative speech and artwork, such as rapper Bryson Gray's "Let's Go, Brandon" song, as well as content flagged as unacceptable by foreign dictators. Earlier this year, the platform banned the founder of the pro-life group Live Action and barred the group from posting ads.

Fox News Digital reported that a whistleblower indicated the Chinese government, which controls TikTok, has been using the app to "suppress minorities, censor freedom of speech and mask human rights violations."

In addition to being used to selectively silence certain groups and amplify the voices of others — such as those anointed on trips to the White House — TikTok is a security threat.

A report released last week accused TikTok's parent company ByteDance of planning to use the location data it collected on the app to track and monitor American citizens. The company is also being accused of seeking to gather users' personal and private information without their consent.

This week, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) said, "Donald Trump was right on TikTok years ago ... If your country uses Huawei, if your kids are on TikTok ... the ability for China to have undue influence is a much greater challenge and a much more immediate threat than any kind of actual armed conflict."

Economists predict near 100% possibility of recession by this time next year

U.S. economists are predicting with near 100% certainty that the economy will enter a recession within the next 12 months, which is the last thing Democrats wanted to hear ahead of the midterm elections.

An economic forecast by the Bloomberg Economics model projects the probability of a recession by October 2023 to be 100%, an increase from the last report, which estimated the likelihood of a recession within the next 12 months to be 65%.

The model uses 13 macroeconomic and financial indicators to predict the odds of hitting a recession. Bloomberg predicts the chance of a recession happening in the next 11 months to be 73%, while the 10-month probability is at 25%.

Bloomberg economists said persistent inflation and expectation of continued rate hikes from the Federal Reserve are contributing to the risk of contraction.

The U.S. economy technically entered a recession in July after the real gross domestic product decreased for two quarters in a row. The Bureau of Economic Analysis said GDP — the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services for sale produced by the economy — decreased by 0.9% in the second quarter of 2022. A rule-of-thumb measure of a recession is whether GDP declines in two consecutive quarters.

At the time, the Biden administration waved away recession concerns, citing strong jobs numbers reported throughout the summer. President Joe Biden has continued to insist that while a recession is possible, it is unlikely. Last week, Biden told CNN that if there is a recession, it will be "very slight."

On Saturday, Biden called the economy "strong as hell" while eating ice cream in Portland, Oregon.

“Joe Biden saying, “Our economy is strong as hell,” while eating an ice cream cone is so tone deaf and out of touch to what Americans actually see in their lives that it feels like the Democrats are intentionally tanking the election.”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1665952010

"I’m not concerned about the strength of the dollar. I’m concerned about the rest of the world. Our economy is strong as hell," Biden said. "Inflation is worldwide. It’s worse off than it is in the United States. So the problem is the lack of economic growth and sound policy in other countries, not so much ours."

White House Council of Economic Advisers member Jared Bernstein separately told "Fox News Sunday" this weekend that government revenues are rising as a result of "how strong this economy has been."

"We have an unemployment rate that is 3.5%. There is no recession that would prevail with that kind of unemployment rate. We’re obviously adding hundreds of thousands of jobs per month. We have consumers who still have pretty strong balance sheets. We still have job vacancies. … We actually think the probability for a soft landing is good," Bernstein said.

Meanwhile, an economic report last week said that inflation rose more than expected in September, with headline inflation at 8.2%, near a four-decade high. While Americans who want jobs may have them, they are being squeezed, as every dollar they earn purchases less and their savings depreciate.

A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found that the economy or inflation ranks as the top issue for a plurality of voters. Voters concerned with the economy and inflation think Republicans will handle the issue better than Democrats 64% to 30%.

First lady Jill Biden reportedly did not receive a warm reception at Lincoln Financial Field, the home of her beloved Philadelphia Eagles. Biden — who grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey, just outside Philadelphia — was an honorary captain for the Eagles' Sunday night matchup against their bitter NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. But when she attempted to help lead the crowd in a rendition of "Fly, Eagles, Fly," those in the stands reportedly responded by booing mercilessly and chanting expletives about her husband.

Mrs. Biden, who was on hand to support the Cancer Moonshot initiative, clearly knew the fight song and smiled as she sang ardently in front of nearly 70,000 raucous fans. NBC included a brief clip of her appearance on its national broadcast and then shared that clip on social media.

".@FLOTUS leads the crowd in #FlyEaglesFly ahead of kickoff," the official account of Sunday Night Football on NBC wrote in sharing the video on Twitter.

"Fly, Eagles, Fly" is the only sound coming from the audience in that clip. However, folks in the stands heard different sounds and shared their observations on social media.

According to Tea Party Patriots, the crowd booed and shouted "F*** Joe Biden."

In a video shared by Newsmax host Benny Johnson, some in an upper corner of the stadium were chanting a more family-friendly version of "FJB," "Let's Go, Brandon":

Others in attendance did not share video evidence, but still reported the boos and the chants on social media.

NFL veteran Clay Harbor, who was drafted by the Eagles in 2010 and spent three seasons with the team, wrote, "Philly just BOO’d Jill Biden BAD." He also included a laughing emoji to indicate he found the incident humorous.

Self-described "Eagles insider" John McMullen tweeted, "FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden gets booed. Being an 'Eagles fan' didn't save her."

Several media outlets have also reported the story. Notable sports site OutKick is one such outlet, though writer Matt Reigle claimed late Sunday night that videos of the boos and "FJB" chants were difficult to find on social media. However, a quick search of "Jill Biden" on Twitter on Monday afternoon yielded dozens of tweets that included the video. It is unclear whether the videos were less readily available when his story was published.

Jill Biden's husband, President Joe Biden, is also a lifelong Eagles fan. In May 2021, he described his fellow Eagles fans as "the most informed and most obnoxious fans in the world."

Regardless of any supposedly anti-Biden sentiment from the crowd on Sunday, the Eagles went on to best the Cowboys, 26-17, and are now the only undefeated team in the league.
