BLM activist calls NYC Mayor Eric Adams a 'coon' during interview

A Black Lives Matter leader slammed New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) on Thursday, calling him a "white man in blackface" and "a coon."

Black Lives Matter of Greater New York co-founder Hawk Newsome made those comments during an interview on Fox News in response to what the mayor said last week, when he accused Black Lives Matter activists of hypocrisy after a string of black-on-black shootings.

"I thought Black Lives Matter. Where are all those who stated ‘Black Lives Matter’? Then go do an analysis of who was killed or shot last night. I was up all night speaking to my commanders in the Bronx, in Brooklyn. The victims were black. Many of the shooters were black," Adams said on Spectrum News NY1 on April 14.

"If Black Lives Matter, then the thousands of people I saw on the street when [George] Floyd was murdered should be on the street right now stating that the lives of these black children that are dying every night matter. We can’t be hypocrites,” he said, referring to the 2020 murder of black man George Floyd by Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin.

"America's Newsroom" co-host Bill Hemmer asked Newsome about the mayor's comments and about FBI data that shows a 32% increase in black Americans killed by violent crime since 2019.

“The subject is African-Americans. I would also argue white lives matter, too. Everybody’s life matters here,” Hemmer said. "What the mayor contends, though, is that the same reaction is not given. What would you say to him?”

“It was smooth the way you threw white lives matters in there. Our problem is when black lives are oppressed and don’t receive justice, nobody cares, nothing happens. Something happens to a white person, the world moves, right?” Newsome answered. “So, let’s get back to Eric Adams. This mayor who’s a Democrat but he spews conservative and Republican talking points. At the end of the day, we have a name for someone like this. And this is someone we’d call a coon, right?”

"Whoa!" Hemmer exclaimed.

“He is a black man – he’s a white man in blackface, and a very conservative-minded white man, at that. So what we have is a man with hundreds of people on the city’s payroll, billions of dollars in budget, and 40,000 police officers,” Newsome continued. “He has 10 victims in one night. The night before he had 16 shooting victims on the train and they say what are you going to do about policing and he says what about BLM? Is America not smart enough to see him deflecting?”

He went on to accuse Adams of failing to keep the city safe.

"This city is a war zone, and he can't stop it," Newsome said. "So with all his power he turns to BLM and says, what are you going to do? Well, I'll tell you what we're going to do. We're going to organize people in our communities to go out and preach a message of love and unification in the streets. We're going to take control of our cities because the government has failed us for decades. Even when crime is low, we're still dying, and we have to fix this problem ourselves."

"We believe that poverty is the mother of crime. And until we fix that, they'll never be a decrease in crime," he said.

BLM leader who vowed 'bloodshed' abruptly leaves interview when confronted by Fox News host: 'No, you're a coward!'

Black Lives Matter activist Hawk Newsome, co-founder of BLM for the greater New York City area, abruptly left an interview on Fox News Saturday after "Unfiltered" host Dan Bongino confronted him for allegedly threatening violence.

What is the background?

After a reportedly heated meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams (D), Newsome foreshadowed what would happen if the New York Police Department resurrects its controversial plainclothes anti-crime units, which were disbanded last year.

"If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing, then we're going to take to the streets again," Newsome said Wednesday after the meeting. "There will be riots, there will be fire, and there will be bloodshed."

Adams, in fact, has promised to resurrect the units. "I'm going to put in place a plainclothes gun unit. We must zero in on gun violence in our community," he said on Thursday.

What happened on Fox News?

The 10-minute interview was mostly cordial. But the exchange went off the rails when Bongino offered Newsome the opportunity to disavow responding to Adams' plan with violence.

"You don't want riots, right? You don't want riots, correct? And violence? I just want to get you on the record," Bongino said.

"I'm going on the record right now. As Dr. [Martin Luther] King said, riots are the voice of the unheard," Newsome responded. "It's a natural occurrence that if people continue to be traumatized and oppressed they will lash out."

Newsome then invoked the Boston Tea Party, and described it as a "riot."

"I'm not asking about the Boston Tea Party, Hawk," Bongino shot back. "I'm asking you a simple question: Do you condemn violence or not?"

Still not responding to the question directly, Newsome said he would not condemn violence per se because he believes in self-defense.

Bongino then asked once again.

"Do you condemn riots and burning down buildings after a police use-of-force incident you don't like?" he asked.

"No. What I'll say is: I understand when a police officer unjustifiably kills someone, why people lash out. I understand that completely," Newsome responded. "I'm not going to condemn, nor am I going to condone it."

"Isn't that cowardly?" Bongino fired back. "'I'm not going to condemn it, but I'm not going to condone it — so I don't want to take a stand'? … You seem to talk a lot of junk and then when I put you on the spot you won't answer a damn question. Do you condone violence or you condemn violence? You're all over the place. Just condemn violence and burning of buildings down. How hard is this?"

In response, Newsome invoked 9/11, and asked Bongino whether he supported responding to those terrorist attacks peacefully.

"OK, I'll give you this," Newsome said. "I don't condone it, I don't promote it, but I will not condemn it."

"Man, that's just cowardly, man. That's just cowardly," Bongino responded.

Newsome then abruptly left the interview, removing his ear piece and standing up from his chair.

"No, you're a coward!" Newsome said. "You're trying to bait me. I'm outta here. God Bless."

NYPD cops blast BLM leader as a 'domestic terrorist' for threats of 'riots' and 'bloodshed,' want FBI to investigate him and his funders

New York City-based Black Lives Matter leader Hawk Newsome got a lot of press this week after he vowed "riots," "fire," and "bloodshed" in Gotham if Mayor-elect Eric Adams does not meet his and his organization's demands.

Not surprisingly, New York City's finest were incensed by his remarks. And now some cops are calling on the feds to investigate Newsome as a "domestic terrorist" as well as his funders, the New York Post reported Thursday night.

What happened?

Newsome, whom the Post has described as a "rogue militant," met with Adams this week to discuss BLM's demands, especially their opposition to Adams' plan to bring back the NYPD Anti-Crime Unit.

When Adams refused to back down on his plans and instead called on Newsome and BLM to do their part to reduce crime and violence, the BLM boss threatened anarchy.

"If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing, then we're going to take to the streets again," Newsome declared, adding, "There will be riots. There will be fire, and there will be bloodshed. There's no way we're going to let some Gestapos come in here and harm our people."

He later added, "We have people in the streets who can create problems for this administration by shutting it down."

In an Instagram post responding to reports about his threats following the meeting with Adams, Newsome continued his tirade against what he called "an Evil and violent system" and vowed to fight "devious and cutthroat" politicians.

"There are plenty of us here to fight for y'all. I am here to fight for y'all," he stated, adding, "When the time comes and our people are tired they will rise up."

How did the cops respond?

NYPD cops ripped the BLM leader for his threats.

One police supervisor told the Post that Newsome "should be denounced by every politician because he is threatening to harm the citizens of New York."

The NYPD official also wants the feds to get involved.

"The FBI should investigate him as a domestic terrorist and look into where he is getting his money," the source told the Post. "The people funding him should also be investigated."

"He is threatening to overthrow the government, cause physical harm and property damage," the official added.

Another veteran cop told the Post that Newsome has created a "lose-lose situation" for BLM.

"If the mayor likes the cops, the cops will work for the mayor," the cop told the paper. "People in these communities where shootings and other crimes are spiking want the cops on the street."

Black Lives Matter leader vows 'riots,' 'fire,' and 'bloodshed' if incoming mayor resurrects anti-crime unit. Eric Adams fires back.

A Black Lives Matter leader is vowing there will be "riots," "fire," and "bloodshed" if New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams resurrects the NYPD's controversial anti-crime unit. Another BLM head threatened to make Adams' time as NYC mayor a "nightmare."

Adams granted a meeting on Wednesday to Black Lives Matter activists, including Hawk Newsome – the co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York. The meeting was held behind closed doors inside the Brooklyn Borough Hall, but the 30-minute meeting was recorded and shared on Instagram by an attendee, according to the New York Daily News.

Newsome informed Adams, "We're not a traditional black social justice organization, we are more on the line of the Black Panthers."

Newsome told Adams that his organization would hold the mayor-elect responsible for any misconduct by NYPD.

Adams responded, "You're on the ground. Stop the violence in my community. I'm holding you accountable. Don't hold me accountable."

Adams then listed his resume to the group, "Being the mayor, being the borough president, being the state senator — I put my body on the line for my community, so I'm not here for folks to come and say, 'Eric, we're gonna hold you accountable.'"

He rebutted, "No, it's us. We need to do this together."

Adams again flaunted his experience as an NYPD captain and Democratic politician, "The same things I've been doing over the past 35 years I'm going to continue to do, and maybe you should look at those things I have done."

Adams said, "I am not changing who I am. I'm going to begin the way I am; I'm going to leave the way I came in."

Despite being granted a lengthy conference with the mayor-elect, members of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York were unsatisfied with Adams.

Chivona Newsome — co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York — said when politicians meet black people "they shuck, they jive, they use rap quotes" without providing a "crystal-clear agenda."

"It's pretty much however Eric Adams wants to go about it, that's how Black Lives Matter of Greater New York will address the problem," Newsome stated. "If he wants to see the city in an uprising, we can give him that. If he wants to end poverty ... we're here for that as well."

Newsome also pointed out that she was "the only woman in the room" and hinted that Adams may have dismissed her because of "misogyny or ageism."

Hawk Newsome — Chivona's brother — said after the meeting, "If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing, then we're going to take to the streets again."

"There will be riots. There will be fire, and there will be bloodshed," he threatened. "There's no way we're going to let some Gestapos come in here and harm our people. We pray for peace, but black opportunities prepare for the worst."

"We have people in city council who can create problems for him," Newsome said. "We have people in the streets who can create problems for this administration by shutting it down."

Newsome said he wasn't "threatening anyone," but claimed there would be a "natural response to aggressive oppression" where "people will react."

Adams doubled down on his campaign promise to reactivate the NYPD's anti-crime units. During a Thursday appearance on CNN, Adams was asked about Newsome's messaging against the anti-crime unit.

"I made it clear on the campaign trail," Adams said. "I'm going to put in place a plainclothes gun unit. We must zero in on gun violence in our community. That was my promise, and I'm going to keep it."

Adams told WNYW that the group didn't mention any threats, "They didn't say any of that in the meeting."

"They know who I am, I ran on a very clear message: my city will not be unsafe," Adams continued. "I said it before and that is what I am going to continue to say. That is what I promised to New Yorkers, and that is what I'm going to deliver on."

In June 2020, New York Police Department disbanded its anti-crime unit. The anti-crime unit was involved in high-profile police shootings, including the deaths of Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, and Eric Garner. Crime skyrocketed as much as 200% in the weeks following the disbanding of the anti-crime unit.

Investigation demanded after Black Lives Matter co-founder exposed for 'real estate-buying binge'

The leader of Black Lives Matter Greater New York City is calling for an investigation after a new report revealed that a co-founder of Black Lives Matter has purchased four expensive homes over the past several years.

Hawk Newsome, leader of Black Lives Matter Greater New York City, is demanding an "independent investigation" into the finances of Black Lives Matter.

"If you go around calling yourself a socialist, you have to ask how much of her own personal money is going to charitable causes," Newsome told the New York Post. "It's really sad because it makes people doubt the validity of the movement and overlook the fact that it's the people that carry this movement."

"We need black firms and black accountants to go in there and find out where the money is going," he added.

What are the allegations?

According to the New York Post, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors went on a "real estate-buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone" since 2016.

Not only does she own the $1.4 million property in Topanga Canyon that was widely reported on, but she has purchased three other properties in recent years, and even reportedly considered buying property in an exclusive resort in the Bahamas where Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake own property.

The three other properties include, according to the Post:

  • A three-bedroom home in Inglewood, California, that she purchased in 2016 for $510,000, which is now reportedly worth approximately $800,000
  • A four-bedroom home in South Los Angeles that she purchased in 2018 for $590,000, which is now reportedly worth $720,000
  • A three-bedroom property on 3.2 acres in rural Conyers, Georgia, that reportedly has its own private runway that accommodates small airplanes

The average home price in the U.S. stands at around $270,000, according to Zillow, whereas the average home price in California is $635,000.

Anything else?

Black Lives Matter has faced scrutiny over alleged transparency issues with their finances, especially considering the organization has both non-profit and for-profit arms.

From the New York Post:

Founded by Khan-Cullors and another activist, Kailee Scales, the non-profit Oakland, Calif.-based BLM Global Network Foundation was incorporated in 2017 and claims to have chapters throughout the US, UK and Canada, and a mission "to eradicate White supremacy and build power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities." The group does not have a federal tax exemption and donations are filtered through ActBlue Charities and Thousand Currents, two non-profits that manage the cash.

At the same time that the Khan-Cullors incorporated the non-profit, she also set up the similarly named BLM Global Network, a for-profit which is not required to disclose how much it spends or pays its executives.

Neither Khan-Cullors nor Black Lives Matter have responded to the intensifying scrutiny around the group's finances.
