'Back to School' drag show promoted for all ages in Idaho canceled after online backlash

A "Back to School" drag show promoted for all ages in Idaho was cancelled after online outrage.

The event was scheduled for September 24 at the College Market coffee shop in the city of Pocatello in southeast Idaho, and was to be the second annual drag show of its kind.

"The free event aims to bring the fun and inviting spirit of drag to those who aren’t typically able to attend shows in their traditional setting (bars, clubs, etc.)," read one advertisement for the show.

On Friday, the popular Libs of TikTok account posted the advertisement for the drag show and many responded with outrage.

Three days later on Monda,y a post on the Facebook page for Southeastern-Idaho Pride said the show was cancelled.

"We as a group have decided to cancel the September 24th Drag show," the post read. "The event as planned was a G rated theatrical review, by all 18+ performers. However, due to the misinterpretation of marketing materials, and to mitigate the harm to our LGBTQ+ community, we feel it is best to not proceed with this performance."

The Libs of TikTok account has been targeted by the media and others on the left because it continues to expose extremist posts from those on the left on social media. In one instance from June, the account was suspended from Twitter for posting a thread about child drag shows that the company said violated its rules against "abuse and harassment." The account was later reinstated.

A similar drag show planned for the Boise Pride Festival faced backlash from those concerned about sexualization of children. The president of Boise Pride lashed out at critics and called the event a "celebration of self-expression and confidence."

Libs of TikTok exposed Palm Springs drag show where young child danced for money — drag queen called reaction 'homophobic' and immoral

A drag queen who brought a young girl up on stage to dance for money in a video from Palm Springs, California, is accusing critics of homophobia.

Sabryna Williams claims to have received hateful messages on Instagram since Libs of TikTok posted a video of Williams bringing a young girl onto the stage to dance while an elderly man places money in front of her.

“I’ve been having to delete comments on my Instagram all day where people were calling me a pedophile and disgusting,” Williams said to the Palms Springs Post. “I’ve been doing this for 22 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

The video on the Libs of TikTok account garnered over 500k views.

Williams went on to say the girl was simply having fun.

“It’s the middle of the day. There were a bunch of other kids there, and that girl was dancing her heart out to every song,” Williams continued. “I asked her if she wanted to come on stage, and she went right on up there."

The video was from a drag show performed during brunch on the Fourth of July at a restaurant called Oscar's in downtown Palm Springs. The owner of the restaurant, Dan Gore, told KESQ-TV that he thought the drag shows were inspiring.

"It just uplifts people, and it's a great experience in all aspects – the music, the dancing, the shablams, the death drops, the costumes," Gore said. "What kids don't enjoy some sort of spectacle?"

Williams went on to accuse those upset about the video of homophobia and immorality.

“It’s just another form of homophobia we have to deal with because people are afraid of things they aren’t used to," Williams said. "We’ve lost all sense of morals and forgotten how to treat other people.”

Williams also said that drag teaches children to be themselves.

"The younger, the better," Williams told KESQ.

Canadian 2SLGBTQ+ group says it received death threats after its youth drag show was exposed by Libs of TikTok

The founder of a Canadian 2SLGBTQ+ group for young people says he and his staff received death threats when the popular Libs of TikTok account posted about a youth drag show.

Libs of TikTok posted on July 5 about the event that was advertised by Outloud North Bay.

The advertisement featured a photograph of a child in drag.

"You asked.... so we are planning our first real YOUTH DRAG SHOW. If you have an interest in dressing up in drag and performing NOW IS YOUR CHANCE," the ad read.

Seth Compton, the founder of OutLoud North Bay, told CBC that he and his staff had received death threats and other hateful messages as a result of the Libs of TikTok tweet.

"And it had nothing to do with bringing drag queens in. It had nothing to do with entertaining adults or anything like that," Compton said.

He claimed that the young members wanted to host the drag show themselves.

"I want to promote inclusion, and love and acceptance in our space. And that's what we do," he continued.

"And it breaks me. I feel broken," Compton added. "I mean, to read through some of these messages — and I'm not talking just a few. I received thousands."

He said that he might have taken his own life because of the messages if he were not in a healthy mental state.

The North Bay Police Service said they were looking into the death threats but that they would be difficult to prosecute because they would have to coordinate with U.S. law enforcement.

"It's absolutely disgusting just to head over to that account, and just look at what they're promoting and how social media can allow accounts like that to stay open," said Compton.

The Libs of TikTok account has been targeted by the media on the left, but the creator of the account says it will continue despite the attacks.

In June, Texas state Rep. Bryan Slaton pledged to put forth legislation to protect children from being exposed to drag show performances.
