'Enough of this creepy crap!' Lauren Chen and other women lambaste Maybelline over bearded person advertising lip color
Women are blasting Maybelline New York's ill-advised move to feature an individual who appears to be a bearded man. In a video recently posted by Maybelline on social media, Ryan Vita, who has a hairy face and extremely long nails, can be seen advertising and applying lip color. Text in the corner of the video declares, "*MaybellinePartner." Vita's Instagram page indicates that he uses "she/he/they" pronouns.
Women blasted the makeup brand in the comments on the post.
"Enough of this creepy crap!" BlazeTV's Lauren Chen exclaimed in response to Maybelline's post.
"Why are you using MEN TO ADVERTISE THIS? I can’t picture myself wearing any of your lipsticks when all I can see is a whole a** beard and mustache!!! Enough already!" another person wrote, adding, "Out Maybelline!"
"Do you really think we would want to buy these lipsticks after seeing this? I love maybelline but can’t handle this. I got scared even by seeing this! Please stop," someone else wrote.
"Really don't want to be seeing MEN doing makeup tutorials!!! Nonsense," another person commented.
"The point of advertising is to focus on a target audience, not alienate them. You had better hope that there are a lot of lipstick wearing, bearded men out there to make up the sales that you have just lost," someone else wrote.
NYX Professional Makeup has previously promoted lip cream by sharing photos of a bearded individual with bright pink lips.
A video featured last month on the Maybelline Instagram account features "RuPaul Drag Race's iconic Mistress Isabelle Brooks," whose chest hair is visible during the video.
Dylan Mulvaney, a biological man who identifies as a woman, has also apparently promoted Maybelline. He posted a video earlier this year that included text in the corner that read "*MaybellinePartner."

"Feminist: Women are just as good as men Also Feminist: Men are women too," someone else wrote.

Woke mob goes after Hailey Bieber for 'cultural appropriation' over TikTok video showing her 'brownie glazed lips' makeup routine
Hailey Bieber has been accused of "cultural appropriation" by social media users for a TikTok video showing her in the middle of a makeup routine in which she creates "brownie glazed lips," ABC News reported.
Bieber's viral clip — during which she applies dark lip liner and clear lip gloss — actually was posted over a month ago and now boasts 15.7 million views. ABC News in its early Wednesday morning story said her caption was "Ready for all the fall things including brownie glazed lips." But as of Wednesday afternoon, the caption reads "the lip combo vibe I’m feeling for fall."
What did she apparently appropriate?
ABC News said some TikTok users accused the model and wife of singer Justin Bieber of appropriating the makeup routine popular in the late '80s and '90s among women of color, particularly black and Latina women.
Sandra E. Garcia, a New York Times style reporter, told "Good Morning America" that Bieber's TikTok post reflects the double standard in which women of color are "looked at as lesser than any other woman just because of the way they decide to do their own makeup. But then another woman, a white woman, does the same thing, and her lip gloss is sold out, and she's now the face of the trend," ABC News reported.
Jillian Hernandez — professor at the University of Florida's Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women's Studies Research — added to "Good Morning America" that black and Latina women often don’t often profit from their fashion and cultural trendsetting, the network said.
ABC News said Hailey Bieber has not responded to its request for comment.
'I’m Latina and who cares'
The "Good Morning America" video segment on the matter drew some pointed reactions — in the opposite direction — from YouTube commenters:
- "I’m Latina and who cares," one commenter wrote. "I’m so over people making it about the race and making it seem like certain races are not allowed to wear certain hair, certain make up style[s], etc. — just call it the chola look, and call it a day. Anyone can wear it LOL. ..."
- "OMG, how are we ever as a society going to break this chain of toxicity and hate, if ppl can’t stop complaining about petty 'BS' like this," another commenter said. "People have been doing this forever; it’s not cultural appropriation; it’s cultural appreciation, cultural sharing, and I cannot understand why this is such an absolute issue. Is this who we truly are as a society now? Is this how petty we’ve really become?"
- "Just because she’s doing something she likes for fall doesn’t mean she’s taking credit for it lmao," another commenter pointed out.

Transgender woman rejected by every sorority at U. of Alabama: 'I’m sad because I wanted to be a part of a sisterhood'
A transgender woman was rejected by every sorority at the University of Alabama during student recruitment, the New York Post reported, citing social media posts from the student in question.
What are the details?
Grant Sikes earlier this week wrote on Instagram about being passed over by each of the college's nearly 20 sororities.
“Unfortunately, this chapter is closed. This recruitment journey is over for me,” Sikes wrote. “Being dropped from my last house this morning during primary recruitment at the University of Alabama doesn’t come as a surprise considering out of the almost 20 chapters ... I was dropped by every single one except 2 before day 1.”
Sikes added, "I’m hopeful of a future where everyone is welcomed for just being themselves — everywhere. If you are going through a hard time today, remember that life is too short to ponder on the things lost. Choose happiness & always look for the positive things throughout life. Move on. See the good. See the bad. Hope for the best. Brave the worst.”
Sikes received nearly 36,000 likes for the Instagram post as of Wednesday morning.
In a TikTok video, Sikes called the unanimous rejection "extremely upsetting" and added that "I’m sad because I wanted to be a part of a sisterhood and, more than that, a community.”
@grantelisikes HII. Thank u all 💕 it rlly means a lot. #rush #bamarush #ootd #theuniversityofalabama #rushtalk #makeup #rushtok ♬ original sound - Grant Sikes
The TikTok video got a decidedly bigger reaction, garnering nearly 190,000 likes and more than 6,300 comments since it was posted earlier this week.
In fact, Sikes' TikTok videos documenting the recruitment journey got millions of views during Alabama Rush Week, the Post said.
The paper added that Sikes isn't the first transgender student rejected from a Greek Life organization, noting that Adam Davies was rejected by all 12 sororities at Northwestern University in 2017.
Anything else?
Commenters on Sikes' above TikTok video offered a variety of reactions:
- 'I'M PACKING MY BAGS & HEADING TO ALABAMA," one commenter wrote. "I’m ready to riot."
- "Can I say genuinely as a queer person [who] went through Greek life, it’s is extremely homophobic and not a safe space," another commenter wrote. "You deserve better!!!"
- "Y’all better keep this same energy for all the other girls that got cut!" another commenter told fellow commenters. "Nothing against Grant, but there are plenty of other girls in the same spot."
