Black Lives Matter livid over off-duty cop's acquittal after he hit woman; cop said she interfered in arrest. Cop, woman were also political rivals at the time.

Black Lives Matter is angry over the acquittal of an off-duty Providence, Rhode Island, police officer who hit a black woman during a protest in June following the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Thing is, the officer said the woman was physically interfering with his attempt to arrest a man who was attacking a journalist.

Oh, and the cop and the woman he hit? They were political rivals at the time of the incident.

What's are the details?

Officer Jeann Lugo, 35, was acquitted of a simple assault charge Wednesday.

Lugo hit Rhode Island Political Cooperative co-founder Jennifer Rourke during the rally outside the state house, WPRI-TV reported.

However, Lugo said he was trying to apprehend a suspect who assaulted self-described independent journalist Josh Mello, and Rourke was physically preventing him from doing so, WPRI reported. Lugo said he applied a pair of “police-trained open-handed distractionary strike techniques” on Rourke to “get her off” him, the station added.

The judge found Lugo’s actions justified as they were in line with keeping public order, WPRI said. Video of the incident shows it took place at night.

A judge dismissed a disorderly conduct charge against Lugo in late August, the station said.

Lugo’s attorney, Daniel Griffin, told WPRI that his client "never should have been arrested. He’s a kid who wanted to serve the city, who wanted to serve his community, and he was railroaded. He’s acquitted now, and we just hope that the city of Providence does the right thing and puts him back to work.”

A Providence police spokesperson said the department still wants to terminate Lugo — who's been on paid suspension since the altercation — despite his acquittal, the station said. Lugo can’t be fired outright due to the Law Enforcement Officer Bill of Rights, WPRI said, adding that it's unclear when the LEOBOR hearing will occur.

Lugo, a Republican, dropped out of the state Senate race shortly after the incident. Rourke, a Democrat, lost to another Republican as the seat held by retiring Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey was up for grabs.

What did Black Lives Matter have to say?

The executive director of the Black Lives Matter RI Political Action Committee told WPRI he was at the pro-abortion rally, that Rourke only was trying to deescalate things, and that the justice system failed her.

“It’s a really disappointing decision today,” Harrison Tuttle added to WPRI. “This is unacceptable. We cant have people, but most importantly police officers, punching women in the face.”

WPRI said it hadn't heard back from Rourke after asking her to comment.

Here's the full statement on the ruling from the local Black Lives Matter outfit:

Today, Jeann Lugo, a Providence Police officer and former candidate for RI Senate District 29 was acquitted on assault charges brought against him by Jennifer Rourke, stemming from an altercation at an abortion rights rally at the State House on June 25, 2022.

We at BLM RI PAC want to extend our deepest condolences to Jennifer Rourke, the alleged victim of this assault. No person, let alone a political candidate should have to fear or face physical violence, based on their political views. Along with her alleged physical assault, which was captured on camera, her rights to free speech and public demonstration were robbed from her, by an officer who swore an oath to protect those rights for all citizens. Jennifer had her day in court and had to face her alleged abuser, as daunting and stressful as that is. Unfortunately the justice system failed her, and we know at this time, her grief and trauma is indescribable.

To Officer Lugo and the Providence Police Department: The actions committed on that day and the resulting trial and decision are abhorrent. Today is a clear example of how policing in our state and capital city needs to be examined under heavy scrutiny. To have an officer of the law, sworn to protect the rights of citizens in our community, attack a political figure exercising their right to free speech and public demonstration is a contradiction and stain on the validity of this officer’s employment and the Providence Police Department as a whole. We strongly urge the city of Providence and the Providence Police Department to think carefully, if and when they decide to reinstate Officer Lugo.

As we continue to fight for the rights of the people in our state, another day goes by and another alleged victim of police brutality is left to fend for themselves. The justice system has again failed to protect those who are victims. We were left waiting and wondering what the outcome of this trial would be, as we were not allowed to receive any substantial information on the matter from Mayor Elorza or any high ranking officers at the Providence Police Department, due to active LEOBOR statutes that don’t allow them to speak on investigations of officers, even when criminal charges are being brought upon the officer. We wait for the day this is no longer. We wait for the day that victims of police brutality receive the justice they deserve. We wait for the police in our cities and towns are held accountable for their actions and remain transparent.

Squires: When it comes to abortion, the 'Two Kings Paradox' explains why so many black preachers sound like atheists

A strange phenomenon has emerged in the weeks since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Prominent black preachers across the country have taken to their pulpits to argue that our democracy is under assault because sending the issue of abortion back to the states is an attack on the human rights of American women.

I have viewed countless videos — courtesy of the Twitter account Woke Preacher Clips — of black clergymen making this claim, including William Barber II, Jamal Bryant, and gospel singer William Murphy. Pastor Howard-John Wesley even donned an “I’m With Her” shirt and scolded pro-life Christians who didn’t attend Black Lives Matter protests. Vice President Kamala Harris also joined the chorus of black leaders promoting abortion as a moral good when she recently told the NAACP’s 113th convention that support for it is consistent with religious faith.

Much has been made about white evangelical support for President Trump, but the sharp political divides between black and white Christians are much bigger than one man.

Black and white evangelicals today – as well as their secular ideological kinsmen – exhibit different behavior at the ballot box because they have vastly different theological perspectives on the authority, purpose, and power of the government.

I call this phenomenon the “Two Kings Paradox.”

Broadly speaking, black pro-abortion evangelicals see the government as analogous to King David. They see liberal federal and state power as the means to free God’s people, black voters, from the terror of Goliath – the imposing amalgamation of white supremacy, systemic racism, poverty, and mass incarceration. Black preachers in this scenario see themselves in the role of the prophet Samuel. Their job is to call King David to repent for his historical abuse of power and encourage him to use his might for the benefit of the people. These preachers also inform their congregations that voting is the “big rock” in their bag that can be used to aid in Goliath’s downfall. To the extent that they feel persecuted, the black pro-abortion evangelicals today view that opposition as a function of their race, not faith.

White evangelicals today, generally speaking, have a different ruler in mind when they think about the relationship between Christians and their government. While they believe civil government is an institution created by God, they see themselves much like the early New Testament Christians living under pagan Roman rule.

Christian historians believe the emperor Nero persecuted Christians and executed the apostles Paul and Peter. In contemporary terms, white evangelicals see the government and cultural institutions as challengers to God’s definitions, institutions (e.g., family, church), and position as the highest authority in heaven or on earth. To the extent that they feel attacked, the average pro-life white evangelical today views that opposition fueled mainly by their faith, which the broader culture often conflates with their race.

It is impossible to deny the role race and racism have historically played in American religious life. In previous generations, the federal government did play the role of rescuer for black citizens trapped under the weight of Jim Crow segregation. The Two Kings Paradox is not an attempt to whitewash the past. It is an explanation of why social conservative black Christians today support a party whose leaders' highest priorities are “reproductive justice,” LGBTQIA+ issues, and climate change.

The issue of abortion has been a bright red line running down the middle of our two-party system for decades. American culture post-Roe is going to show why that was only the beginning. The current administration believes that counseling gender-confused children to accept their bodies as they were created is “conversion therapy” but puberty blocking hormones, mastectomies, and genital mutilation constitute “gender-affirming care.”

No amount of deflection to Donald Trump’s personal failings or political shortcomings can justify such evil. Urbane Ivy League graduates who think men can get pregnant and want to legalize abortion up until birth are creating Franken-kids by giving teenage girls double mastectomies and removing the testicles of teenage boys.

Introducing “Generation F,” courtesy of the "Build Back Butchers."

The Biden administration proudly flies the Pride flag in the White House and on federal government buildings. The Trump administration banned BLM and Pride flags at foreign embassies. Only one of those banners has returned under the current administration. Today’s Democrats speak the language of Selma with their lips but have the spirit of Stonewall bound in their hearts.

Black Democrats are some of the biggest supporters of Planned Parenthood, even though its founder saw poor black women as unfit for procreation. Margaret Sanger opened her first birth control clinic in Brooklyn and to this day in New York City – which has the largest black population in the country– the number of black babies born and aborted have been roughly the same.

Learning about Sanger’s support of eugenics clearly has not made black voters abandon the party of abortion on demand. There is no reason the same capacity to acknowledge historical injustice while adjusting to contemporary realities can’t be applied to the sins of America’s religious past.

I respect the traditions and historical significance of the black church in America. Many are still preaching the good news of Jesus Christ and calling sinners to repentance. Unfortunately, many others have abandoned that responsibility. The “I’m with her” black preachers use their time, energy, and resources to disciple white people. They blame white people in the suburbs of Indiana for black men killing each other in Chicago.

They claim that the hospital room is too small for a woman, her doctor, and the government. Apparently, it’s also too small for the child’s father because none of their “womb-to-tomb” or “pro-all of life” talking points promote marriage or exhort men to take care of the children they create. These men call on society to turn from its wicked ways and free the oppressed from the yoke of gentrification and income inequality. They seem to forget that the repentant soul is the one that inherits the kingdom. The Bible doesn’t promote trickle-down salvation or paternalistic social uplift.

I recently went undercover at an abortion rally held at a Unitarian Universalist church in Washington, D.C. The crowd was at least 80% white and 90% female. The organizers of the event talked to the crowd about risking arrest at a pro-abortion rally the following day. The crowd that evening looked a lot like the church’s congregation and their website reads like a campaign page of liberal senate candidate. The church performs same-sex weddings and has a “Rainbow Souls” affinity group. The structure was solid, but like many churches today, these buildings are whitewashed tombs – towering edifices hiding spiritual decay.

For a committed Christian, the Bible is the measuring stick that should be used to evaluate every other political ideology, social theory, religious practice, or secular philosophy. Politically engaged Christians must never forget that they have a book which is their sole standard for making righteous judgements. Christians may have different perspectives on capital gains, taxes, and infrastructure spending, but the most hotly contested battlefronts of the culture wars are about biblical definitions that tie directly to God’s role as Creator.

The distinctions in role and function between male and female, the inherent worth of human life, and the institution of marriage are all laid out in the first two chapters of Genesis. These biblical definitions are complemented by observable phenomena in the natural world. Men and women have bodies that fit together for the purpose of fruitfulness. Some couples have trouble conceiving because of age or medical conditions, but the potential for reproduction is found in principle when the male and female bodies are joined together. Same-sex pairings have no such ability, in theory or practice.

Ultimately, Christian engagement in politics is a matter of spiritual conviction, not the race or color of the pastor or congregation. The only thing that matters is faithful preaching and teaching of God’s word. King Jesus reigns supreme and no political movement can exalt itself above him.

Harvard Law instructor: SCOTUS justices who overturned Roe v Wade 'should never know peace again; it's 'our civic duty to accost them every time they are in public'

A Harvard Law School instructor tweeted that the conservative Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade — the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion in the U.S. — "should never know peace again."

Alejandra Caraballo, a cyberlaw clinical instructor at the prestigious institution, tweeted her comments June 25 — the day after the headline-grabbing decision by the high court. Her tweets made headlines only in the last couple of days.

What are the details?

"The 6 justices who overturned Roe should never know peace again," she wrote. "It is our civic duty to accost them every time they are in public. They are pariahs. Since women don't have their rights, these justices should never have a peaceful moment in public again."

— Alejandra Caraballo (@Alejandra Caraballo) 1656155919

She also said the conservative justices are "coming for contraception, same sex marriage, and the ability to criminalize LGBTQ people again. May those justices feel the unease, insecurity, and anxiety they seek to inflict on us."

Caraballo also posted photos of Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Samuel Alito, Justice Neil Gorsuch, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett — all of whom voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. They represent the court's conservative majority.

Fox News said it reached out to Caraballo and Harvard Law School for comment; the cable network did not say it received replies.

Anything else?

Kavanaugh was forced to leave Morton's Steakhouse in Washington, D.C., last week after pro-abortion activists showed up there to harass him. Morton's was not on the protesters' side, issuing the following statement: "Honorable Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh and all of our other patrons at the restaurant were unduly harassed by unruly protestors while eating dinner at our Morton’s restaurant. Politics, regardless of your side or views, should not trample the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner. There is a time and place for everything. Disturbing the dinner of all of our customers was an act of selfishness and void of decency.”

Prior to the official Roe v. Wade overturn — but after a leaked draft of the decision — an armed California man who wanted to kill Kavanaugh was arrested near the justice's Maryland home.

There have been numerous reports of protests against the conservative justices over their opposition to Roe v. Wade.

Michael Moore gets BRUTALLY mocked after threatening to give up 'full citizenship' in post-Roe America

As the left continues to fall apart in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a few notable celebrities, such as Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong and liberal filmmaker Michael Moore have threatened to give up their U.S. citizenship in protest of restrictive abortion laws in conservative states. Too bad they have obviously never bothered to educate themselves about what abortion laws actually look like in other countries before exposing their own embarrassing ignorance to the world.

From the reactions on Twitter, it doesn't look like Moore's threat had the intended effect.

Woke employee refuses to do his job while 'in mourning' over Roe v. Wade reversal, blasts his employer — and bitterly complains after getting fired

A now-former employee of a major record label admitted to refusing to do his job since he was "in mourning" over the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade reversal, which came down June 24.

Michael Lopez also ripped his employer — Universal Music Group — for allegedly supporting "anti-abortion" politicians.

Lopez added in a LinkedIn post — which was deleted Tuesday morning — that he soon was fired. In the post he also bemoaned that a "queer brown person" got canned "during Pride month for speaking up in defense of abortion rights."

— UpdatesPlug \ud83d\udd0c (@UpdatesPlug \ud83d\udd0c) 1656966585

Say what?

When Roe v. Wade was overturned, Lopez said he was "devastated by the news of the Supreme Court's attack on abortion rights."

"Paired with the flood of anti-queer and anti-trans legislation, it's been hard to process how [companies] expect us to be productive while our rights are being stripped away," he added.

Lopez explained in his LinkedIn post that on Fridays one of his tasks for UMG is to "process reports for upcoming releases," which is done in an email to 275 people. But Lopez said he sent the following email instead:

Subject line: UMe Schedules
Message:

I didn't do them today.

I'm in mourning due to the attack on people with uteruses in the US. Federally guaranteed access to abortion is gone.

Vivendi and Universal Music Group must stop donating to anti-abortion, anti-queer and anti-trans politicians. Politicians like Marsha Blackburn, Ken Buck, Victoria Spartz, etc. Or expect more unproductive days.

Yours in fury,
Michael Lopez

What happened next?

Lopez added in his post that he received "several supportive emails from other co-workers and a manager calling to tell me to take the rest of the day off." He also said he was "proud of letting allies know that our company has been donating to these politicians."

But the positivity didn't last.

Lopez said he got fired in the wake of his email and added a paraphrased reason from the powers that be: "Not doing your job, disrupting the day of 275 people, and poor judgement."

Figuring he'd soon be locked out of his computer, Lopez said he sent a follow-up mass email:

Hey ya’ll,

Just got fired for this email from Friday, so they’re letting you know where they stand on employees speaking out on politicians that support marginalization for folks like me.

A brown queer person terminated during Pride month speaking in support of abortion rights. Seems like that’s exactly what America is all about right now.

Peace out,
Michael Lopez

What did Universal Music Group have to say?

UMG told the New York Post that Lopez's claims aren't true: "As a matter of policy, we can’t discuss an individual’s personnel record. We can say that what was posted on social media is inaccurate.”

The music label added to the paper that it "has a long record of support for women’s issues" and that after the SCOTUS abortion reversal, it "extended its efforts to assure that these important healthcare services remain accessible to employees." UMG noted to the Post that "we also financially support non-profit groups working in this area and offer a match for employee’s contributions to those groups, as well.”

Halsey's pro-abortion speech prompts fans to leave her concert. So the singer rips them, and one attendee calls audience departure 'sickening.'

Singer Halsey gave a pro-abortion speech at her Phoenix concert Sunday, and it apparently prompted some attendees to leave the venue, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At least one of the singer's like-minded fans was not happy about the audience departure, calling it "sickening":

\u201cTHE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO JUST WALKED OUT OF THE HALSEY CONCERT AFTER NIGHTMARE WHEN SHE SPOKE ABOUT ABORTION WAS SICKENING. FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights #MYBODYMYCHOICE #halsey @halsey\u201d
— Maria doesn't feel like feeling sad today (@Maria doesn't feel like feeling sad today) 1656312597

Halsey took her own shot at those who departed her show, writing in response to the above fan's tweet, “Downside of doing outdoor venues: no door to hit them on the way out."

— h (@h) 1656377990

Halsey's clap back at those who left her concert has received over 91,000 likes since Monday night.

While one might expect a ton of support for Halsey on her Twitter page, a surprising number of commenters blasted the singer right back for her comment. Here are but a few examples:

  • "I wouldn’t sit and listen to any political speech, Right or Left, when I paid to be entertained," one commenter wrote. "We see/hear enough politics on TV, radio, and the internet. The same reason I stopped watching entertainment awards shows. It’s not entertainment. But you do you."
  • "How dare people be bombarded at work, home, media with activism.. save up some money to see their favorite singer and a break from the daily toil only to show up for more lectures and then decide to walk out?! Stay and listen to the pop singer lecture or you’re a bigot!" another user pointed out.
  • "If Halsey had the unfortunate fate of being 'aborted,' she wouldn’t have had the opportunity to give that speech, or even sing or have a career for that matter," another commenter said.

What did Halsey say at her show?

In one clip, Halsey — stalking the stage from one end of it to the other — told audience members that if they're "sharing statistics on Instagram and infographics and saying ... ‘That’s really f***ed up,’ what you should do instead is you should be sharing stories about how you’ve benefited from abortion somehow."

She added, “The truth is that my heart breaks looking out into this audience, because I see so many people ... who deserve the right to health care that they need. Who deserve the right to choose themselves in a situation where there is a choice.”

Halsey also said "some of the people I’m looking at right now are going to need an abortion one day, and you deserve that. Whether it’s a life-threatening situation, or it’s not, you deserve it. And here in Arizona, you guys gotta promise me that you’re gonna do that work so that the person to the left of you and to the right of you has that right for the rest of their lives.”

She then told detractors in the crowd, "If you don’t like it, you can go home right now. I don’t care," as she motioned such attendees to the exits. "If you don’t like it, I don’t know why you came to a Halsey concert ...” Apparently some of them took her up on her offer.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on Friday, Halsey tweeted, "I have been advocating for abortion, reproductive rights, and bodily integrity for as long as I’ve had a platform, and I’m running out of ways to word and frame the severity of the impact that fundamentalism has on our country."

She added, "I know some of you look to my page for information or guidance, but I need a little bit of time to speak to some people with more authority and experience than me and gather my thoughts. I don’t want to just contribute to antagonistic noise. I’m just defeated at the moment."

Disney will cover travel expenses for employees seeking abortions in wake of Roe v. Wade overturn

The Walt Disney Co. said Friday it will cover employee travel expenses related to abortions in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which places the burden of abortion legality upon individual states to decide, the Washington Post reported.

What are the details?

CNBC obtained the memo sent to Disney employees, and the network reported that it read in part:

We recognize the impact that today’s Supreme Court ruling could have on many Americans and understand that some of you may have concerns about what that might mean for you and your families, as medical and family planning decisions are deeply personal.

Please know that our company remains committed to removing barriers and providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care for all of our employees, cast members and their families, including family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live. In fact, we have processes in place so that an employee who may be unable to access care in one location has affordable coverage for receiving similar levels of care in another location. This travel benefit covers medical situations related to cancer treatments, transplants, rare disease treatment and family planning (including pregnancy-related decisions).

States now must determine the legality of abortions.

Disney employs 195,000 people worldwide, the Post said, adding that roughly 80,000 are in Florida.

Florida's governor, Republican Ron DeSantis, signed a bill outlawing abortions after 15 weeks — which goes into effect July 1 — that was patterned after Mississippi's 15-week ban at the center of Friday's Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade, Reuters said.

Anything else?

Disney and DeSantis have been at odds for some time.

In March, the Walt Disney Company released a statement in opposition to Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill — infamously and incorrectly referred to as the "Don't Say Gay" bill — which DeSantis has since signed into law.

The following month, DeSantis signed into law a bill revoking Disney's special district status in Florida. The law — set to take effect in June 2023 — strips Disney of self-governing privileges and a special tax status it's enjoyed for 55 years.

Parkland survivor tries to delete CLUELESS tweet about SCOTUS justices — but the internet is forever

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned its controversial 1973 Roe v. Wadeopinion, concluding that there is no constitutional right to an abortion.

"The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives," the syllabus of the decision reads.

As expected, the leftist outrage erupted instantaneously, fueled largely by the misinformed idea that overturning Roe v. Wade means abortion will be banned nationwide. But, as stated in the above-mentioned Supreme Court syllabus, the authority has actually been returned to individual states and their duly elected lawmakers.

One such misinformed leftist, Parkland shooting survivor Cameron Kasky, was infuriated that those awful Supreme Court justices "just voted to kill women." So he took to Twitter to urge people to go to the homes of said Supreme Court justices to "let them know how you feel."

"Go to the home of every Supreme Court justice who just voted to kill women. Let them know how you feel," Kasky tweeted.

Speaking from the White House, President Joe Biden dutifully helped spread the misinformation about the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and took the opportunity to prompt voters to elect more Democrats in November so that Congress can write abortion protections into law. Did the president just let slip the real reason Congress hasn't made any effort to start writing such laws in the nearly two months since Justice Samuel Alito's draft opinion was "leaked" in early May?

Antifa, radical leftists reportedly call for 'night of rage' in wake of SCOTUS abortion overturn: 'Enough is enough with peaceful protest'

Antifa expert Andy Ngo on Friday posted screenshots of tweets from Antifa-affiliated groups and other radical leftists around the country calling for a "night of rage" and similar actions in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v. Wade, which has permitted abortion nationwide for nearly 50 years.

What are the details?

In a Twitter thread that he promised to update, Ngo first warned that the violent anarchist group Jane's Revenge — which has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks on pro-life groups since the leak of the Roe v. Wade overturn draft — has updated its flyers and is calling for violence Friday night:

\u201cIn anticipation of the striking down of Roe v Wade, a far-left #Antifa-linked group named Jane\u2019s Revenge carried out violent attacks on pregnancy resource centers across the US for weeks. Their current flyers in DC call for mass violence tonight:\u201d

Ngo also tweeted that the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Youth Liberation Front — another "violent Antifa group" — is "calling for people to wear black, mask up & to meet at Folger Park at 7:30 p.m. The YLF was responsible for months of extreme violence in Portland & Seattle in 2020."

He added that Antifa in Portland already made plans for violence Thursday and announced a "direct action gathering starting at 5:30 pm PT at Lownsdale Square — the same location they occupied in 2020 & used as a base to carry out mass violence & arson."

Ngo also pointed to an "Anifa account representing members in DC, Maryland & Virginia" from which a tweet read, "Is your bag packed? Let's f***ing go."

He added that the "Florida chapter of #Antifa group Revolutionary Abolition tells comrades to 'bloc up.' This refers to wearing black clothing & black masks to hide identities during crimes." Ngo also said the group "retweeted a post calling for addresses of the family of their target."

Ngo also mentioned that "far-left writer" Gretchen Felker-Martin, who he said penned a "novel where two trans people murder their targets," called for "violence." One of Felker-Martin's Friday tweets read, "Enough is enough with peaceful protest."

Ngo added that the "far-left Abolitionist Law Center"— anticipating that its "comrades will be arrested for crimes" — is "calling for people to donate to abortion & bail funds. Many far-left groups exist in US to provide legal support & bail money to violent far-left extremists."

CNN law enforcement correspondent questions if man out to kill Justice Kavanaugh over Roe v. Wade was even armed — despite 'man with weapon' onscreen headline

CNN law enforcement correspondent Whitney Wild questioned during a Wednesday broadcast if the arrested man who told cops he came to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's house to kill him was even armed.

But as Wild gave her report, a CNN onscreen headline referred to him as a "man with weapon."

What are the details?

"We don't yet know what the nature of the threat was. We don't know what language the threat was or what kind of weapon this man might have had — if he had one at all," Wild said. "Because the information at this point is just so thin."

And while Wild's on-camera report broadcasted at 11:41 a.m. EST, she posted a 10:43 a.m. tweet saying the man "was armed."

'Risk truly comes from both sides of this abortion debate'

Wild also seemed less than surprised about overall threats against Supreme Court justices in the wake of last month's leaked draft ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade and throw abortion law back to the states.

She said federal officials have been "sounding the alarm on this for about a month" and indicating that "justices will certainly be ... potentially targeted by violent extremists who are angered over this pending ruling that is poised to strike down Roe v. Wade."

Wild added that it's "an extremely passionate issue; there are emotions on both sides. Federal officials have made clear over and over they believe the risk truly comes from both sides of this abortion debate, so certainly this [Kavanaugh] case [is] really solidifying what federal officials have been warning about. People are angry. They might seek to use the abortion ruling as a justification to cause violence, and that puts the Supreme Court justices, their staff, and other members of the judiciary — especially the Supreme Court — at risk."

How are folks reacting?

Wild was getting hit Wednesday afternoon with a lot negative comments on her Twitter page over her onscreen statements. Here are but a few:

  • "And the first thing you do is rush on the air to blame conservatives for a liberal that went to Kavanaugh's house with a gun," one commenter wrote. "This is why support for CNN and the Democrat Party is in the gutter. Reasonable people make up a majority of our country, and they don't fall for this BS."
  • "All that money daddy spent on college, and you are just a regime mouthpiece hack," another user said.
  • "Is this what you reported, or did you mislead 10s of viewers?" another commenter quipped.
  • "The good news: I learned who you are today. I didn’t know you were on the planet before I saw your 'both sides' clip," another commenter revealed. "The bad news: I know now not to listen to a word you say if I ever see you again."

Anything else?

According to the Washington Post, the suspect arrested outside Kavanaugh's house is in his mid-20s and was carrying at least one weapon and burglary tools. He had reportedly told police officers he was there to kill Kavanaugh.

The paper added that the man was angry over the leaked draft decision that would overturn Roe v. Wade as well as recent mass shootings.
