US Commerce Department halts exports on civilian firearms and ammunition, but what’s it REALLY about?

The U.S. Commerce Department has declared a 90-day pause on the export of most civilian firearms and ammunition under the premise that it will reduce the "risk of firearms being diverted to entities or activities that promote regional instability, violate human rights, or fuel criminal activities."

But what’s it really about?

“They say they're doing this because they want to make sure that the guns that are being sold by manufacturers to gun stores all around the world … don't fall into the wrong hands,” says Glenn Beck, “but we're sending billions of dollars' worth of ammunition and guns to Ukraine without anyone tracking any of it.”

Stu Burguiere finds it interesting that “the left has just decided that they're the pro-war people, but they don't want us to be able to protect ourselves against lawless mobs that … go through city after city after city.”

Speaking of lawlessness, look no further than the tragedy that happened last week in Maine when a shooter opened fire at a bowling alley, killing 18 people. Unsurprisingly, the left, along with the media, has used the incident to fuel the campaign against guns.

Conservatives have countered the argument with their usual list of reasons – “It's the shooter, not the gun; the man was unstable [and] shouldn’t have had a gun; … regulations wouldn’t have stopped him; bad guys don’t observe the regulations; these shootings are stopped by good guys with guns,” etc.

While “all of that stuff is true,” says Glenn, “none of that is the thing we should focus on right now.”

“Rather, we should realize that we are living in a very special and unique time where all of the original reasons for the Second Amendment are as urgently relevant as they have ever been, [and] we should probably understand those reasons,” he continues.

As a “natural law,” self-defense falls “under the inalienable right to life,” which protects citizens not only from “people with evil intent” but also from “an out-of-control government,” especially when that government is as “weaponized” as it is today, says Glenn.

Those who want to ban certain rifles specifically would do well to consider “the history of asymmetric warfare from the Revolutionary War,” as well as the fact that “gun confiscation [is] one of the first acts of every tyrant in history.”

Anti-gun advocates would also do well to consider the “truly frightening crime statistics” in America today and the war raging between Hamas and Israel.

“What would the result have been if the population of Israel had been completely disarmed and helpless, fully dependent on their security forces? How many would be dead?” asks Glenn. “Far more than are.”

Further, the Jews in our own country “have to cower inside their homes or get locked in libraries for fear of the mob.”

“We live in a time when hundreds of thousands of people feel free to openly shout their support for evil and genocide and their hatred for the culture that welcomed them into their midst – a time when open borders have meant 10 million people and thousands on the terror list that are present right now in our cities,” not to mention the constant threat of “the cartels and the gangs,” laments Glenn.

The truth is, “self-defense has never been more relevant than it is today.”

“I don't know what the Biden administration is doing this time,” says Glenn, “but their every step has been to erode your rights one way or another.” This temporary halt on civilian firearms and ammunition export is probably no different.

Biden, whose son presently faces felony gun charges, to announce creation of a federal gun control office ahead of 2024 election: Report

Democrats failed to fully advance their gun control agenda by democratic means in Congress, so it appears they've elected to impose it on the nation by way of presidential edict.

According to the Washington Post, President Joe Biden, whose son is presently facing three counts of felony gun charges, will announce Friday the creation of a new office for "gun violence prevention," usually intended as a euphemism for gun control.

The Hill reported that in January, a coalition of 117 gun control groups penned a letter to Biden asking for a federal office for gun violence prevention and that he appoint a full-time director for the effort. They also demanded that Biden declare a national emergency around gun violence and to ban foreign-manufactured firearms that ostensibly have no "sporting purpose."

Four individuals reportedly briefed on the forthcoming action, who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Post, indicated that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will make the announcement in the White House Rose Garden on Friday afternoon. The White House declined to provide the Post with comment.

Stefanie Feldman, a longtime Biden staffer, will likely helm the gun control office.

Feldman, who became an assistant to the president and staff secretary in May, has worked for Biden for over a decade, having previously served as the national policy director for his campaign, the inaugural policy director for the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware, and as an aide in the Obama administration.

Politico reported that Greg Jackson, the executive director of the gun control group Community Justice Action Fund — an outfit connected to the radical leftist, Soros-funded Tides Foundation — is expected to hold a senior role in Biden's new office along with Rob Wilcox, the senior director for federal government affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety.

Shannon Watts, the founder emerita of the gun control group Moms Demand Action, told the Post, "If this announcement is, in fact, the creation of a single point of leadership on gun violence in the administration, it's a very big deal for the movement."

"For years, we've advocated for a centralized team responsible for coordinating federal and state resources and mobilizing movement partners," added Watts. "A governmental focal point dedicated to creating a framework for overseeing national policy, research and resources would be more than symbolic — it would be a significant turning point for the movement."

Biden, now neck and neck with former President Donald Trump in the polls, has long been keen to curb Second Amendment rights, having last year ratified the first major federal gun control bill in 30 years, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The BSCA provides funding for state red-flag laws and expands background checks for gun purchasers.

This week, gun rights advocate John Lott and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) noted that the "innocuous-sounding BSCA will radically change gun ownership," particularly since the "Biden administration is trying to use the BSCA to implement universal background checks on all gun purchases and to track virtually everyone who obtains a gun."

In April 2022, Biden announced that his Department of Justice had issued a final rule to rein in so-called "ghost guns," banning their manufacture and clarifying that unserialized "buy build shoot" kits qualify as firearms under the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The Democratic president has alsocalled on Congress to ban so-called "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazines as well as for lawmakers to repeal gun manufacturers' immunity to liability.

According to Politico, the announcement of this executive office ahead of the 2024 presidential election may serve to make the 80-year-old president appear less politically impotent on the gun control issue, "potentially increasing enthusiasm among key voting blocs."

Alec Baldwin’s Criminal Charges Driven By Legal Facts And His Own Public Arrogance

Legal experts agree that the criminal charges came as a result of both the facts at hand and public perception of Baldwin’s behavior.

Alec Baldwin Lost Any Credible Defense When He Violated The First Rule Of Gun Safety

The first rule of gun safety is you don’t point a gun a something unless you intend to shoot it — and Alec Baldwin broke it.

Hunter's Biden's latest BIZARRE scandal reveals how red-flag laws REALLY work

Even if red-flag laws weren't unconstitutional (which they are), they've never been about your safety. They're about your submission, argued Glenn Beck on the radio program. Think of it this way: If red flag laws became the law of the land, do you think President Joe Biden’s son Hunter would lose his guns or face charges for violating the gun laws we already have?

You may have heard that he once "lost" a gun in a dumpster by a school. But there's a whole lot more to the bizarre tale. Newly revealed texts from Hunter's abandoned laptop detail the strange drama that unfolded when Hallie Biden, Hunter's sister-in-law-turned-lover, threw his handgun into a dumpster near a Delaware school in October 2018. The gun was found and turned in to police, but like so many of the Biden family scandals, the chaos created a sandstorm that conveniently helped cover Hunter's tracks. Only tidbits of information have emerged, the most significant of which is that the gun in question was purchased by Hunter illegally and, of course, no charges were filed as a result.

Glenn broke down the details of the most recently revealed Hunter Biden scandal, noting in particular that no charges or arrests were ever made as a result.

"If you voted for Joe Biden and you believe in all of these red-flag laws, then why isn't Hunter Biden in jail today?" Glenn asked.

"You and I both know that the ramifications of Hunter Biden's activities and his tragic saga go well beyond Hunter Biden, because they are teaching people a lesson. We are moving towards a society that has a ruling class that lives above their own edicts. They tell us they know better. They tell us that our neighbors and even some of us are dangerous, while ignoring the dangers in their own lives or in their own families ... We saw it during COVID-19 and we will see it again with gun regulations, 'The rules are for thee and not for me.' This is why Americans cannot give an inch, not one inch of our liberty away on the grounds of the government's good faith. They have no good faith left. They have violated every single principle of liberty and they've done it in a name of they know better," he said.

"Don't be fooled," Glenn added. "Just as we saw during COVID-19, just as we saw with the Patriot Act that is now being horribly abused by the people in power that swore they'd never abuse it, red-flags are not about your safety. Period. They are about your submission."

Frank Luntz suggests referring to 'gun safety' rather than 'gun control'

Pollster Frank Luntz is suggesting that people change the terminology they employ by using the term "gun safety" in lieu of the phrase "gun control."

"'Gun control' makes it irreversibly political. 'Gun safety' is something everyone can agree on. #WordsThatWork," Luntz tweeted on Thursday. Luntz is the author of the book "Words That Work: It's Not What You Say, It's What People Hear."

Some on social media pounced in response to his suggested language shift.

"Yeet this fraudster into the sea," Ben Domenech tweeted.

"Is Frank all right?" Mark Davis tweeted. "'Gun safety' is taken. It's a term referring to safe handling and operation of your gun. We can call #guncontrol a pepperoni pizza if everybody wants to. It will remain a bad idea."

David Harsanyi tweeted, "Instead of providing clarity and truth, this guy's job is to come up with transparently hackish words and phrases meant to mislead people."

Luntz replied, "It's 'transparently hackish' to try bringing people from different sides of an issue to the same table for a discussion?"

Luntz had also suggested reframing the language to "gun safety" during a media appearance. He said that people do not think individuals should be allowed to own assault rifles, but they do believe the minimum age for firearm ownership should be increased. "The public does believe in certain checks to ensure that people have the ability to own a gun," he said, adding that, "they believe in gun training." He described these concepts as "not hostile to the Constitution."

"What gun measures do most Americans agree on?" Luntz tweeted, along with a list that included increasing the "minimum age to 21," "Universal background checks," and "Restrictions on semi-auto rifle ownership." He added, "It's possible to set smart, sensible and responsible gun policy and still preserve the 2nd Amendment."

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Biden admin issues new gun control rule in response to Michigan school shooting

The Biden administration announced a new firearms rule this week in response to last year's tragic school shooting in Michigan that aims to ensure that all gun owners have secure storage devices for their guns.

What are the details?

The new rule, detailed in a Department of Justice press release issued Monday, requires all federally licensed gun retailers to certify that they have secure gun storage devices that are specifically compatible with the firearms they are selling available on-site to customers.

According to the Justice Department, acceptable devices "include a safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination, or other similar means."

The new rule amends and officially codifies gun storage requirements already mandated under the Gun Control Act of 1999 for new Federal Firearms License applicants. With the new rule, the requirements will be law for "any place where firearms are sold under the license to non-licensed individuals."

The department also noted that "integral to the new rule is the requirement that FFLs have available secure gun storage options that are compatible with the firearms they are selling."

The rule has been submitted to the Federal Register for publication and is set to go into effect on Feb. 3. It can be read in its entirety here.

What else?

In a statement, Attorney General Merrick Garland said the policy is intended "to reduce the risk of firearms falling into the wrong hands." He added that it builds on the Justice Department's efforts to cut down on gun crime.

“Gun safety is a Department of Justice priority, and we will continue to take all appropriate steps to help reduce the number of people killed and injured by the misuse of firearms," Garland said.

Lars Dalseide, a spokesman for the National Rifle Association, responded to the news by telling the Washington Times that the gun-rights group “has always supported the safe storage of firearms.”

Bearing Arms, a pro-Second Amendment blog, noted that for new guns the change isn’t a big deal since new guns generally come with gun locks that would qualify under the regulation.

"But the problem is that many gun stores sell used guns, which means they have to also have some means of gun storage on-site regardless of what comes with new firearms," he added. "That means already limited inventory space is going to have to be filled with expensive and often unnecessary gun storage options."

Anything else?

The Times noted that the rule change came just one month after the arrest of the parents of Ethan Crumbley, the 15-year-old Michigan student who killed four and injured seven others using a firearm he took from his parents' home.

The parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter on Dec. 3 for failing to prevent the shooting, in part, by failing to secure the 9mm Sig Sauer SP 2022 they had purchased only days before.

In charging documents, Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said the gun had been stored in an unlocked drawer in the parents' bedroom and claimed that the parents ignored several warning signs indicating that their son would carry out the egregious act.
