Thug allegedly steals car with boy in back seat after dad steps away — then bails out of car while it's still moving

A 27-year-old male allegedly stole a car in Chicago with a boy in the back seat after the child's father stepped away from it — then soon bailed out of the vehicle while it was still moving.

Authorities said the scary incident took place around 9:20 p.m. last Friday night in the 800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, CWB Chicago reported.

Investigators recovered surveillance video that allegedly linked Miller to the incident, the outlet reported.

Prosecutors said a 34-year-old man stepped out of his 2014 Hyundai Elantra, leaving his 12-year-old son in the back seat, the outlet reported.

Just moments later, the suspect — identified as Jordan Miller of East Chicago, Indiana — allegedly got behind the wheel and drove away southbound on Milwaukee with the boy still inside the vehicle, the outlet said.

It's not clear from the outlet if the dad left the car unlocked with keys inside it or not.

The boy asked Miller where his father was, but Miller responded by pushing the boy back into his seat and tossing the child's phone out of the car, the outlet said, citing police.

Prosecutors said Miller soon bailed out of the car without putting it in park, after which it rolled out of control with the child inside, the outlet said.

The Elantra crashed into another car in the 900 block of West Fry Street, the outlet said. The location is less than a half mile from the spot where the vehicle was stolen.

Emergency responders took the 12-year-old to Lurie Children’s Hospital for treatment of pain in his head, back, and eye, the outlet said.

Officers found Miller in the 1000 block of West Chicago Avenue, the outlet said, adding that he matched a description the boy and witnesses provided.

Investigators recovered surveillance video that allegedly linked Miller to the incident, the outlet reported.

Miller was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was treated and released for cuts on his left hand, the outlet said, citing a police report.

Miller was charged with robbery, aggravated kidnapping of a child younger than 13, and possessing a stolen motor vehicle, the outlet said.

Cook County Jail records indicate Miller was booked Sunday on no bond; his next hearing is scheduled for March 13.

Judge Anthony Calabrese during a detention hearing ordered Miller held pending trial, the outlet said.

3 males — ages 8, 11, 12 — steal car, crash into house; driver, 11, says he learned how to steal cars from YouTube: Cops

Three males — ages 8, 11, 12 — were arrested Saturday after stealing a car, leading cops on a chase, and crashing into a home, police in Newburgh Heights, Ohio, told Blaze News. Newburgh Heights is about 12 minutes southeast of Cleveland.

Police said officers received an alert just before 3 p.m. from its Flock Safety license plate readers about a stolen car driving westbound on Harvard Avenue around East 54th Street.

The 11-year-old stated that 'something just came over his body, and he could not control it, he needed to take the car,' police said.

A Newburgh Heights officer spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled from officers, police said.

The vehicle crashed into a home where three juveniles fled on foot, police said.

WATCH: Florida man says he 'teleported' into stolen BMW, blames 'X-Men,' thanks cop for rescuing him from 'aliens'

A Florida man was arrested after getting into a car crash with a vehicle that was reported stolen earlier this month. However, the case took a strange twist when the suspect said he was "teleported" into the stolen BMW by the "X-Men" — but he was now safe from the "aliens," according to police bodycam video.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that a car owner informed police that his BMW convertible had been stolen while he was walking his dog at Bicentennial Park in Ormond Beach.

'You saved me from the aliens!'

The man admitted to law enforcement that he had left his BMW unlocked and that the car keys were in a "closed cup holder."

Police bodycam video — recorded Dec. 8 — shows a witness telling a deputy that a man in his 30s with blond shoulder-length hair was in a BMW at the park.

"He kept asking for a light," the witness told the deputy. "I thought, 'How does he have a BMW if he doesn't even have a lighter for a cigarette?'"

A few minutes later, the BMW crashed at Old Dixie Highway and Plantation Oaks Boulevard, the sheriff's office stated.

Bodycam footage shows the car crash site, with one witness claiming that the BMW was traveling at 130 miles per hour. The wrecked BMW is seen half off the road with the front of the vehicle severely mangled after it seemingly crashed into the trees near the highway in a one-car accident.

A deputy confronted the alleged driver of the stolen BMW — 36-year-old Calvin Curtis Johnson.

Johnson — who is seen with blood on his face — is heard telling the deputy, "I don't know how I got in the car. I teleported or something."

When the deputy asks where he got the car from, Johnson shrugs and responds, "I don't know," and once again suggests that he "teleported" into the vehicle.

The suspect then appears to blame the situation on the "X-Men."

According to the bodycam video, the deputy asks the suspect if he had just been to Bicentennial Park, to which Johnson replies, "They told me — the X-Men — to do it."

A distraught Johnson is heard on video stammering, "I don't do that stuff. Someone told me to get in there. Someone's in my head. Thank you for saving me. I don't know how I got in there."

Then an excited Johnson exuberantly proclaimed to the deputy, "You saved me from the aliens!"

The police bodycam footage also shows the officer dousing flames from a small fire from the car crash.

Johnson was arrested, taken to the Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment, and booked into the Volusia County Jail. Johnson was hit with charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a canceled, suspended, or revoked license, according to jail records.

According to Volusia County jail records, Johnson has a lengthy rap sheet with arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer without violence, loitering or prowling, uttering a forged check, trespassing, several charges for failing to appear in court, and operating a vehicle while a driver's license was suspended, canceled, or revoked.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that Johnson is homeless.

Dad-to-be made chilling revelation about car crash that put him in coma before dying — now his girlfriend has been charged

A father-to-be reportedly slipped into a coma after being involved in a car accident while his girlfriend was driving on Super Bowl Sunday earlier this year.

But he eventually woke up from the coma just long enough before his death to give a chilling revelation to law enforcement about his girlfriend and the car crash, according to multiple reports.

'I don't care what happens, you'll get what you deserve.'

Daniel Waterman, 22, was involved in a car crash on Interstate 95 in Flagler County on Feb. 9, Law & Crime reported, citing the warrant arrest affidavit. Waterman was in the car with his girlfriend — 24-year-old Leigha Mumby — who reportedly was driving a 2019 Honda Passport.

The car collided with a tree, police said, adding that no other vehicles were involved.

Mumby sustained serious injuries, according to police.

But Waterman suffered severe, life-threatening injuries, including a "C6-7 fracture, cervical spine injury, clavicle fracture, femur fracture, hip dislocation, epidural hematoma, pneumothorax with pulmonary contusion, zygomatic and temporal contusion, [and a] talus fracture," according to the affidavit.

Waterman fell into a coma — but recovered enough to communicate with investigators on May 15.

Syracuse.com, citing Waterman's mother, reported that he could barely speak, so police pointed to letters on a board while Waterman made sounds to indicate which letters he wanted to use.

The outlet reported that during the 90-minute interview with police, Waterman revealed that the car crash was not an accident.

While driving down the interstate, Waterman and Mumby got into an argument about a text message he received from a female friend in New York — and the fact that Leigha found out that day she was pregnant, according to the affidavit.

Waterman told the investigator who interviewed him that he and Mumby "exchanged expletives" and "Leigha began driving recklessly."

Waterman's mother, Heather Waterman, told Syracuse.com that her son was sending text messages to a friend about the Super Bowl the night of the crash because Waterman was a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and the friend was a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Waterman's cousin, Jessica Stappenbeck, told FlaglerLive.com that just minutes before the crash, Mumby texted her the following from Waterman's phone: "This is what he gets for being a liar and a cheater."

Stappenbeck said Waterman told her on the day of the crash that he didn't know what to do about the pregnancy and that he "didn't like how Leigha was handling the situation."

Stappenbeck said Waterman and Mumby watched the Super Bowl at her home, but the couple left before the end of the game.

According to the arrest affidavit, the last thing Waterman remembered before the crash was Mumby telling him, "I don't care what happens, you'll get what you deserve."

The affidavit said the vehicle "swerved off the roadway, colliding with a tree, making Daniel incapacitated."

An officer stated in the affidavit, "I have reason to believe Leigha made these statements and immediately swerved off the road to crash her car."

The arrest affidavit said the car's event data recorder found the vehicle was speeding between 93 and 95 miles per hour approximately three to five seconds before the crash.

"The brakes were not applied, ABS was inactive, and stability control was not engaged," the affidavit read.

The affidavit also noted that the vehicle was "aggressively maneuvering" about four seconds before the collision.

In July, Mumby was arrested on charges of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the affidavit.

Mumby was booked into the Flagler County Jail and subsequently released after posting a $150,000 bond.

Syracuse.com reported that Waterman died from pneumonia Oct. 8 at the Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York.

Following Waterman's death, prosecutors added vehicular homicide to Mumby's previous charges on Oct. 24, according to People magazine.

John Hager, an attorney for Waterman's family, told Fox News, "There are no real winners in this situation. It's a terrible, horrible situation, and the fact that these charges were filed, I think were right and just, and the family is satisfied with how the state attorney's office in Flagler County has been working diligently and is satisfied with the current charges being filed."

Hager told WTVT-TV, "This was not an accident. Evidence showed she didn’t use the brakes — the car was speeding up at the time of impact."

Hager added, "The family believes the new charge is appropriate and are relieved to see justice moving forward."

What's more, Waterman's death has ignited a paternity battle over Mumby's baby. Hager told WOFL-TV that Mumby recently gave birth to Waterman’s child.

Waterman's mother told Syracuse.com that her son took online parenting courses in August, and his dying wish was for his parents to get custody of the child.

"We'll do whatever we can do to bring her to us," the mother told Syracuse.com. "He wanted her raised in New York with his family." Hager told the Daytona Beach News-Journal that Waterman was visiting from New York at the time of the crash.

An obituary for Waterman posted to Syracuse.com said he "left this world on October 8th, far too soon following a tragic act of violence."

"Daniel passed away after courageously fighting for eight months from injuries sustained in a crash," the obituary added. "Daniel was an excited, soon-to-be father of a baby girl. He wanted nothing more than to come home to her and to the family who loved him so dearly."

Mumby is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 19.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the Flagler County Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to Blaze News' requests for comment.

Motorist in jaw-dropping video actually admits to officer why he crashed 'on purpose' into back of his parked police vehicle

Police in Fairview Heights, Illinois, said an officer pulled over a vehicle around 9 a.m. Wednesday for having an expired license plate sticker. Fairview Heights is about 20 minutes east of St. Louis.

The stop was on Old Collinsville Road about a quarter of a mile south of Frank Scott Parkway, police said, adding that the police vehicle was fully marked with activated emergency lights.

'I been drinking, and I took some weed pills.'

The officer began walking up to the pulled-over vehicle from the passenger side when a gray 2018 Chevrolet Camaro slammed into his squad car from behind, police said.

The impact of the crash "was so hard it pushed the squad car into the vehicle in front of it and impaled them together," police said.

The driver of the Camaro quickly exited and approached the officer, who had his body camera activated, police said.

The motorist asks, "What happened?"

The officer replies, "You tell me."

The motorist states, "I need a new car."

Soon the the officer instructs the motorist to get out of the street and sit on the sidewalk, and the driver — who says he's all right and was alone in his car — complies.

"I been drinking, and I took some weed pills," the motorist tells the officer.

Soon he adds, "I got insurance, but it ain't gonna cover that, though."

Later, as the motorist hands over what appears to be his driver's license to the officer, he offers a stunning admission to the cop: "I did that on purpose, sir."

"Why's that?" the officer inquires.

"I'm bored," the man answers.

But it gets better.

Soon, as another officer stands behind the motorist, still sitting on the sidewalk, the officer asks, "So you ran into the back of me on purpose?"

"Yup," the motorist replies.

Again, the officer asks, "Why's that?"

"I hate cops, man," the motorist answers.

The entire exchange is noticeably calm and cordial, even when the officer handcuffs the motorist.

Fairview Heights Police said Illinois State Police were called to the scene to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident that was captured on video.

Police said the motorist was arrested and transported to county jail.

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office on Friday filed the following charges against 28-year-old Keajion L. Jennings of Belleville, Illinois, police said:

  • one count of criminal damage to government property;
  • two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon;
  • one count of aggravated battery with a motor vehicle.

The Belleville News-Democrat added that Jennings also is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly placing Officer Travis Montgomery "in reasonable apprehension of being struck by a vehicle while Montgomery was in close proximity to his squad car."

Jail records indicate that Jennings was arrested and booked the same day as the motor vehicle crash; there is no bond listed for him. A Monday court date also is listed in jail records, which showed him as still incarcerated Tuesday morning.

The State’s Attorney’s Office also filed a pretrial petition seeking to detain Jennings, arguing that his release before trial would "pose a real and present threat to community safety," the News-Democrat also reported.

Police said the two individuals inside the pulled-over vehicle in front of the police cruiser were not injured — and were given a warning for the expired license plate; the officer speaking in the bodycam video wasn't injured, as he was outside his police vehicle at the time of the crash.

Citing charging documents, the News-Democrat reported that the crash left the police cruiser with more than $10,000 in damage.

Cellphone video caught the moment when a road-rage suspect repeatedly smashed the windows of a crashed car in Boston — and the unhinged fellow carried out the act with a hatchet, of all things.

Police said the aggravated assault took place just after 11:40 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Commonwealth Avenue in the city's Brighton neighborhood.

The victim added that he felt disoriented after the crash but recalled that the suspect approached him and began smashing his vehicle windows with a hammer or axe.

Police told the station the Prius sustained extensive damage and that the airbags had deployed.

The Prius driver told police that the pickup truck driver chased and forced him off the road, WBTS reported.

The victim added that he felt disoriented after the crash but recalled that the suspect approached him and began smashing his vehicle windows with a hammer or axe, the station said, adding that the suspect also swung the hatchet at him and chased him down the street for a short distance.

Crazy video: Unhinged driver hits teen, crashes through Dollar Tree wall — with teen still on hood. The end is even wilder.

Cellphone video caught the moment when a motorist hit a teenager in the parking lot of a South Carolina Dollar Tree store on Mother's Day, then plowed through the store wall — with the teen still on the hood of the car.

Miraculously, the victim quickly emerged from the rubble and walked away, apparently as if the impact was nothing. You can view the cellphone video here.

'Youth these days ... don't value life.'

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said a fight involving two adults and three juveniles began in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Sumter Highway in Bishopville, WIS-TV reported. Bishopville is a little less than an hour northeast of Columbia.

Authorities said a 17-year-old hit a 15-year-old with a vehicle before crashing into the store, the station noted, adding that the driver reportedly rolled the car away from the store and crashed into an occupied vehicle in the parking lot.

WIS said the 15-year-old hit by the car was not seriously hurt.

Deputies said 19-year-old Celvin Hickman and 24-year-old Shamirah Blyther were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the brawl, the station reported, adding that Hickman also was charged with malicious injury to property.

The three juveniles also were arrested, the sheriff’s office told WIS.

The 17-year-old accused of driving the car that crashed into the store was charged with attempted murder, disorderly conduct, and malicious injury to property, the station said, adding that authorities said the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult.

Another 15-year-old also was charged with disorderly conduct and released to guardians, WIS said.

Blaze News spoke with an employee of a business just down the street from where the calamity went down. The employee — who spoke to Blaze News on the condition of anonymity — said the harrowing incident has made people "look at Bishopville a little differently."

"I did have one guy who said he's afraid to come back down here," the employee told Blaze News, adding that a lot of people shop in the area, which police consistently patrol.

"It's crazy that it happened right there," the employee added to Blaze News.

Sheriff Daniel Simon in the aftermath told WIS that some "youth these days ... don't value life." Simon added to the station that the driver who hit the 15-year-old with the car "used the vehicle as a weapon. You might as well pull out a gun ... and pull the trigger."

WIS said the store is closed for now and that there's about $10,000 in damages.
